Film Description
ULTIMA THULE
???Beyond the borders of the known world."

This is the first teaser for my Sci-Fi epic, Ultima Thule. It???s a long one, so if you don???t like long teasers (about 5 minutes) then you might wanna skip this. I like long epic teasers, its just my thing.

I have been working on this one for a bit on and off, and it looks to be 3-4 parts. The script feels like it runs about 2 hours..so???..

The Story: In the distant future of 2910, the Human race is extinct. The sole survivor is a man named Morgan, who has no memory of his past. Having been in a deep hyper sleep for over a 300 years, he only knows that he is alone. His only companion is the ???Engineer class??? droid known as ???Eight???

Morgan and Eight are alone on the Battlecruiser ???Betty??? lost somewhere in uncharted space, with no knowledge of how they got there. Eights memory knows nothing of a world beyond The Betty. The ship, with its full compliment of the tools of war, was meant for thousands of people, yet now its home to just two.

The story begins when a distress signal from a empty ship is picked up by The Bettys Supercomputer and everything changes. What Morgan finds hidden in the derelict ship could be the key to resurrecting the entire Human species. Morgan isn???t the only one interested in the contents of the ship, as he soon finds that He and Eight are plunged into a fight with an unknown, war driven and very powerful alien race of Bio Mechanical beings that will stop at nothing to retrieve the ship and what it carries.

What the Aliens didn???t expect to find was a man willing to take them on and find his own destiny beyond the known universe.

Ultima Thule ???Coming soon.

You know what? That 5'20" just flew by.
Loved the build up from silent black to epic epicness. (epicnosity?)
I didn't mind the lack of narrative: the visuals and scale were enough to tease me. Besides, I'm sure there will be many, many more teasers and trailers ahead of us before the main event.

That was quite a trip and that ain't just the wacky tabbacy talking.
Music meshed it together brilliantly, wondrous shots, ships, the whole enchilada.

You might have called this a long trailer, but as for me, I couldn't get enough! This is a great indicator of what is to come for sci-fi on TMO. Jase, a very nice introduction and to everyone involved, it looks sci-fan-tastic! ===K4===

Amazing trailer! The use of modding was incredible. I don't know how you do it, but you have the best set dressing skills on this site. The story sounds completely original. I was think of I am Legend when I read the description, but instead, it evolved into something much more impressive. I admire this trailer... and it's only the trailer! Who knows what is going to happen in the full release. I am definitely going to watch this one!

I'm glad this is a type-written review and not a verbal one since my jaw won't seem to close. The graphics are absolutely stunning, and the music absolutely epic. I'm just watching over and over again to study just what I saw. What's more, this is only the trailer! Where's the box office? I'm getting in line NOW!

One would expect at the start that they were previewing '2910: A space Odyssey', then the whole story is laid out, in this thrilling epic trailer. Such a strange name for what seems to be "The Movies Online's Next Big Thing".

Top notch! Visually as impressive as it gets on TMO and perfect music use for a slow built up. Though the missing of narrative wasn't affecting me and I'm already intrigued and inspired by the storyline and the really impressing outstanding visuals I thought it was a bit long, you could have easily built up the same tension in 4 minutes.

I give out 4 stars because it's a trailer and I'm of the opinion that you can't compare trailers and movies so my highest rating for trailers is 4 stars. But this one surly would deserve 5 stars since it's better than most short films. In the end I'll stick to my opinion and award 4 stars, even if it's deserving of more in the overall point of view.

Some truly aw-spiring and visually stunning cinematography; this film looks like it's going to rock TMO's world.

This puts new meaning to the phrase "Full Trailer"; just barely shorter than the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy", yet longer than my attention span. Just how I like'm.

An interesting premise and some good camera angles are the best things I can say about this trailer. Compared to your earlier ones however, I feel the work is below-par and all in all it didn't quite come out as well it could have. I don't see what some people were talking about with the pacing which I feel was for the most part good for this kind of film (Albeit early on, with the panning-over with the ship, it brought back the beginning of Sola Fide to my mind all over again...No need to film the under-side of a ship for so long mate, just get on with the rest of the show - that part was boring, excessive, and utterly a waste of time). What rubbed me the wrong way about this trailer wasn't actually the technical side of it, which all in all was decent albeit a bit excessive and random near the end with some fairly mundane and "seen it" scenes of people shooting, but the things in it...The first set you use is the Star Wars Tantive IV set, and the Colonial Marine's drop-ship from the "Aliens" series is blatantly there numerous times, both in its exterior and interior forms. I adore nods and references in films, so if it had been a quick shot with these images barely noticeable (Ala, a storm trooper walking in the distance or something) that would be fine and all in good fun...However, I dislike that you use (a) pre-established object(s) in the film and try to make it your own. Yeah yeah, I realize it looks nice and everything, but it isn't yours. It's like watching Blade Runner with Deckard wearing Han Solo attire and TIE-fighters replacing all the hover-cars...To add to it, you call the ship "The Betty" - the exact same name of the Mercenary's vessel in Aliens 4, complete with, yep, the same logo on the side.

I realize you probably aren't doing this on purpose; you have always created unique and interesting movies, and are probably just using these mods because they are the best and perhaps only kind of things out there. Still, it isn't unique to this movie, the Rebellion and the US Colonial Marines are not your work and don't belong in the Ultima Thule universe, and in my opinion you shouldn't have these things in there if you are trying to make this film a serious and unique one - otherwise, people are going to be thinking, "So when do the storm troopers burst in?" every time the Tantive IV set is on, or "Is Bishop flying that?" every time the drop-ship comes on-screen...You surely want to try to break free of pre-established universes and create something different, and not add to the already abundant amount of rip-offs out there. My opinion is that ya' need to tweak the script a slight amount - change the ship's name a little and just don't film the logo on the ship, use a different corridor and can the drop-ship, and this series will be 100% more unique in my and possibly other's eyes. Otherwise, you might as well go ahead and get the USS Enterprise in there and make Eight a German-accented leather-clad killing machine who has a knack of coming up with catch-phrases. It'd be about as unique.

Four stars.

Ultima Thule is shaping up to be an edgy and atmospheric Sci-fi Epic!

Daring to venture into space in a different direction is something I highly admire and I think your choice of mods and your execution was spot on. The slow revelation of this universe and all that entails is something that struck me so vividly and coupled with a haunting premise, this is shaping up to be something 'special'.

Displaying shades of Alien and 2001 with it's hollow setting lies something that is truly epic in a way of substance.

I look forward to seeing how this develops over time and until that day...

Nuke Well in 2910!!!!!!!

Excellent scenes. Cool idea. I would have liked some connection between the scenes and the description as well as I couldnt grab the story from the visuals alone. As per the feature, send me the 2 hour dvd and I'll hire a sitter and grab a bucket of popcorn. Looks like a lot of fun. Wouldnt miss it for the end of the world (damn that probably would have worked better in Tre's trailer...How about "In space nobody can hear your sound sync issues"..now thats a tagline)

Freakin' awesome! :O

I want more, will this be released tomorrow? :)
(It never hurts to be hopeful... >.> )

Epic scenery, amazing music, outstanding plot, and don't even get me started on the mods! Great job with the atmosphere too.

I liked the 7 seconds of just silence at the beginning too! It was actually very suspenseful! Why must your fans endure such torture? :D

If any trailer on this site deserves five stars, it is most definitely this one!

One word has become synonomous (sp?) with Jase180 and his films, and that word is amazing. I would say it out loud but my mouth is still agape from watching this trailer. At first I thought, a five minute trailer? you're kidding me, but every second was amazing. I simply cannot wait for this movie to come out. again one word, AMAZING!!!!!

Stunning, and although it's not so epic looking, it's definitely the best modded, most serene sounding trailer I every seen on TMO. Great work. If the scenery is this great, I can't wait to see the corresponding storyline.

I like the atmosphere of this - the signature long slow cam moves; the modded content looks awesome, epic music - and the story you hinted at in the description sounds intriguing!

My only complaint is - I would have liked Morgan (or even Eight - that would've been a great, different perspective!) to actually tell us what you you wrote down in the description - it would have given the visually enticing trailer an extra edge!

Looking forward to the movie!

I'll start off with the things 'I' liked and then followed by what 'I' personally didn't like

WHAT I LIKED:

_MODS_

Excellent use of mods to not only convey the scale of this project but the worlds within. You had some great ship setpieces and props of soldiers and mixed with your creativity, you drew a very distinctive picture.

_FREE-CAM/CINEMATOGRAPHY_

Your use of Free-cam was very interesting with appropriate wide-shots mixed with some clever pans and swoops. A moment that sticks in my mind is when the ship was leaving the space dock and another of the pan of 'betty' in space.

WHAT I DIDNT LIKE:

_PACING/EDITTING_

Any time I watch films on here (particularly trailers) I always imagine how I would feel or what I would like to feel like if I were to have gone to the cinema.

The first apparent thing that bugged me was 'pacing'. Now I know you mentioned that the actual length was huge for a trailer and advised others to skip if it isn't their thing BUT I felt compelled to pinpoint 'why' It bugged me.

Length is one thing, Pacing is another. I felt as though the 'pacing' itself is what really ruined 'my' viewing. Here is an example;

I had to Wait over 2 minutes for the entire film to buffer (I noticed the resolution was high - ok fair enough)
But once the film actually buffered and started I then had to wait ANOTHER 20 seconds in darkness, with no sound, no nothing before anything showed up, which incidentally was the opening logo.

I then had to wait an EXTRA 20 seconds before the ACTUAL trailer began, and I'm thinking to myself? (2mins and 40 secs - Technically) and I am no closer to finding out what this film is about?

I think you could have paced yourself better, not only in the beginning but throughout the whole entire trailer. Sure it has a hook factor, going from Empty Quiet Surroundings to Full on Scale Battles and Props half-way through, but the actual pace shift and gear shift never happens so for 'some' you might be wondering, "so where's the hook?" , "has it happened already?"

I am just highlighting areas I see, whether or not you or anyone agrees is another thing. It's just my opinion at the end of the day.

I really do believe you could have tried to implement a better hook through better use of pacing half-way through, leading up like a rollercoaster and then finally at it's climax you give us a title or a BOOM, you know? Instead it fell flat for 'me'

SUMMARY

To top it off, you had darkness at the end for 10 or so seconds, only this time complimented by a ship taking off sound effect? (This was more effective than just silence)

The concept seems very intruiging although kind of unoriginal, with many oldschool sci-fi's going down that route (which isn't a bad thing)

It kind of reminds me of gaming titles such as 'System Shock' and and upcoming one called 'Dead Space'

Good luck with productions and I hope it turns out to be an edgy film that isn't overdone on the long pans, zooms and slow editting. I tried to watch 'Bombshelter' and was instantly hit with similar problems so I stopped watching and decided to leave it.

P.S _

I am fairly new to the radioshows and I do listen to your one and I noticed your comments the other day. Believe it or not dude, it's just 'MY' opinion. No need to badmouth reviewers just because they do not share the same opinion as you? It was constructive critisism on something that wasn't 'PERFECT' and it just grates me to see members like yourself trying to justify the fact that everyone should bow down before other so called 'perfect' members that can do no wrong.

We are not one mind but of many, so if you see a review of mine you don't agree with fine, fair enough, THATS YOUR OPINION. But don't hide behind a computer and radioshow to badmouth me or anyone else for that matter. Approach on the forums and discuss or even pm in person. I would respect you MUCH MORE jase180.
