Beautifully shot for the most part, the one exception being an African shield which seemed to be in the background of most jungle shots.

The acting got better as the film went on but I didn't find the early scenes too convincing.

I liked the irony of what happened to the priest, a blackly comic moment.

My main problem with this film was the story - I thought it was ridiculous.

We are led to believe that an eclipse caused a whole crop and water supply to vanish!? But that wasn't all that was wrong with this - I found it completely unbelievable when the Aid worker suddenly turned on Steven near the end. I didn't get any sense of him being an unhinged personality from earlier in the film, it was completely out of character and very contrived. The dialogue during the conflict made no sense in terms of what had gone before in the story.

However, there were some memorable visual moments in the film (the dance at the waterfall being an example), and that's why it's getting rescued.

A stylised movie that captures the inner-emotion. This was outstanding with a storyline that is clear as water. It Purely stands out to the movie. Impressive visuals, they were just so perfessional and organised. It seemed you've took good time in carefully creating the visuals. Acting was also a treat, Nuke and you (Pook), did a fantastic job in understanding the character. It's shows the real talent in voice acting.

I also enjoyed, the atmostpheric appearance to the movie. This shows you've not just created it in one style, but you've given it a multiple of styles. Personally, a good movie in my books, needs some sort of atmostpheric touch and this was done in your own mind.

Overall, a very impressive movie that only Pooka can do. Incredibly stylishly created that leaves you memerising at the end and 'in the cover of darkness' proves to be a hit. Five star.

It would be very hard not to give this five stars, A great stroy, wtih good development throught, very good use of music and superb voice overs, majority of camera work was brilliant (a couple bits I thought were unecessary) A few minor negatives: I thought there would of be more reaction to the vicar's death, second the axe came out of nowhere the character just seem to suddenly have one. However this does not distract from the score, 5 stars. Well done

Well, that was a really beautiful film. Great voice acting and writing. What really blew me away was the cinematography. The whole film just looked...spectacular.

Very enjoyable to watch, I felt that the dialogue and the script were strong and pulled me in. Voice levels were not well matched and varied in volume in various parts although I felt that the acting was very solid in this, nice job.
congrats on the win, well deserved.

This was a very worthy winner of Raven's contest! I'm sorry it took me so long to get around to watching it (I've been a bit busy).

I'll admit that during the first few minutes, I had my doubts. But that went away as the movie progressed and I got sucked into it.

The camera work varied from great to a little overdone. But I'd say that in general, it was very well done.

Music and sound design was very nice. Suited the mood (and set it, too).

The shock of the death scenes really blew me away! I give you a round of applause for those. Shocking!

And the use of the falling scene at the end was particularly well used. Brilliant, in fact.

5 stars with ease. Well done!

Some excellent retexturing moves us from the game to true machinima. I loved the set dressing as it felt like a location. Haunting music and crisp sound effects added to the experience. FABBO

Excellent. Great story that stands out among the fine mods, VO, editing and camera work. Very well done in all areas. Great work by everyone involved. I love the scene where he finds the waterfall. Super effort!

Can you please review my new movie: Vengeance. Thanks.

A fitting winner, unique in vision and story. The visuals were a treat and the sound work was very effective. Strange slow sweaty overall tone really puts the viewer in the middle of the story. I thought a few of the wide angle shots were a little weird in perspective but overall the editing (excellent fight scene) and camera work was outstanding.

Easily the best voice-acting, sets, and effects that I've seen yet on TMO! Unbelievable! Nice plot twists as well - I wasn't expecting any deaths like that!

Truly amazing.

From the camera work, to the acting, to the sounds, a real masterpiece. Now I can see why this won. a great story with some very good acting. The music was a nice touch, but the visuals AND sounds did it for me. You really pulled this off very well Pooka.

Overall, a very good entry and now I know what all the fuss is about. Truly an amazing film. You should be proud.

The first movie of your I watched was "stud money" I believe, but untill "Angles Fall Part1" I never left a review for a film of yours even if I saw some more. That has changed I was very impressed by the "Angles Fall" 2 part film so I watched "King Kong" and now "In the cover of darkness" and I have to say, those 3 films are on the highest tmo technical standard. What I'm trying to say is, that all of your recent films have been a joy to watch not only visually. You've got a new fan! =)

Now to the actual film. I loved the feeling the whole yellowish atmosphere and the always ongoing jungle background noises. The whole cast made an awesome job as well, and I the starmaker faces fitted the voices very well, only I thought for the priest didn't fit that well. The story is a classical tale playing in Africa, well done, still I found it to be odd that the doc missed the first 3-4 shot and that there was no sign of a storm after the priest was hit by lightning.

Once again very well done, a joy to watch!

A great submission by yours. An original setting, wonderful sounddesign and a great use of Free Cam as well as some very fine Actors.

Dialouges were written pretty good, loved the Voice of the Doc, but also the others did a very well perfomance. The characters are developed and presented very well.
The use of lighting, backdrops and freecam is remarkable and shows a very melancholic yet beautiful side of mother nature. Sadly you used those black backdrops again, looks cheap and ugly. The scenes in which the characters died were executed in an awesome way, great directed!

All in all a great movie by yours. Highly atmosperhic stuff!

Very well executed, Pook. You've really been whipping together some damn fine pieces of work. This one was clearly an emphasis on mood and atmosphere, and you really pulled off a perfect short film. This is an obvious top contender for the contest.

'In the Cover of Darkness' by Pookashells is an enchanting submission by Pookashells!

I've always been a fan of ravensfan's competitions and this is an excellent example of why. As with other entrants, Pooka has imginatively created a world/setting/place/story withe merely just a name to go on from the start.

I remember reading this script and thinking, Pooka's descriptive words just painted a picture alone, but now... to see it in visuals is just a treat! You managed to blend together some very vivid and authentic colours through excellent use of lighting and backdrops. This created the sombre and gritty mood that went hand in hand with the story.

Within this gritty scenario, some diverse characters situated well, each with their own ideaologies and beliefs. That is what made this a remarkable film to watch. Seeing conflict in it's true political form!

I loved the use of sfx and music to create an almost weary ambience parralel to the story. You also managed to demonstrate your editting skills to some of the best of your ability with some truly memorable sequences. Don't even get me started on the lightning accident. It was executed so well that I felt the pain that priest must have gone through. The fight sequence was perhaps some of the best editting I have seen from you or any other fight sequencial film on TMO.

In the Cover of Darkness had so many gears that you confidentally shifted with ease!

Special mention to yourself and omahdon who did a truly terrific job bringing his character to life. It was an honour featuring in this and I wish you all the best for the competition.

You continue to suprise me with your visions and creativity and until the next time...

Nuke Well in WAAAAAAATAA! lol

Once upon a time in Africa...
How many of us can say we've ever seen that in a film? I can! :P

Loved this film from start to finish. Really found this to be a crafted piece of art! Ah now lets see, where to begin.

Story of the film was really good. Village looking for something to live off of until the crops come back. Characters were devloped well and I could see what kind of person they are and how they act. I thought Nukester was outstanding in his role, he seemed calm and happy about doing the role. Never heard of Omahdon but he did a nice job as well.

The scenery and setdressing were excellent. In this movie I saw alot of creativity. Climbing the tree was brilliant. Loved how you showed him climbing up to the top then while up there, looking thru his eyes and seeing what he saw. Tops of many trees and a storm coming. Special effects comes in with this for having the lightning flash in the background then having it strike him making him fall out of the tree. After I saw that, it just blew me away. Really looked burnt to the crisp. Backdrops looked amazing and really suited the sets. Mods were good as always and the music was marvelous.

Very wonderful entry, a film that is simply art! Every film I've seen from you so far has been enjoyable. Keep working hard and keep making films.

Cheers to pooka and 'In the Cover of Darkness'

A perfect use of art - tints, overlays and re-texturing - supports this film. Your art does not make demands. Like this film's music, it enhances, it adds a wonderful addition to an already perfect meal of scripting, acting and directing. We don't have to know why it's so good. All we're required to do is allow it to present itself so we can savor it.

All I can say is brilliant, quite magnificantly done. The story, acting and most deffidently direction, were superb. Nearly perfect, misses cause of some minor flaws however, yet still beautiful.

Breathtaking. That's how I would describe this film. So many aspects were simply mezmerizing. I just LOVED the colors in this film, such a strong dark yellow made everything in this movie stand out, even the backdrops and plants sustained a constant yellow which worked perfectly given the location. Amazing retextures and mods. Excellent VO's from all 3 VA's, especially from Ohmadon, who I have honestly never heard of before, but did a very good job. Subtle use of music, but very effective, especially for the fight scene, which contained some of the most sublime editing I've ever witnessed in a TMO movie before. Great, creative use of scenes (the tree climb and waterfall scenes for example), and boy, such twists, especially with the priest! I literally said "Holy Crap!" when it happened.

But other than that it was okay. :-P

An amazing film! This is one of the apexes of TMO film making. Now the morals in this film were kinda teether-tottering, but in essence, it had great sets, wonderful storytelling, unexpected plot changes. It was just too good, and it isn't PREDICTABLE as was King Kong.
