Film Description
*MAKE NOTE TO TURN UP YOUR SPEAKERS TO THE MAX, the sound is fine, but just so you know. Thanks*
*Also, make note the no lip synch for the monologue guy was intentional as after doing one export, the lip synch was really messed up and didn't match my vo's, so I hope you take that into consideration when reviewing. Thanks.

Rated PG for one mild swear-word, no violence, mild themes and situations.
Here is my new movie, hope you enjoy it.
It's been 10 and a half months since my last movie [CC4] was uploaded on the site!

After 3 months of planning, it is now done!
It is something very different for me, a part romance, more of a drama/part documentary. This movie revolves around a moral in life, which is that "All Things happen for a reason", this moral is shown in this movie. Also, as stated at the end of this film, this film is dedicated to my Grandma, who passed away last year, on June 9th. The story is partially [in other words, quite a bit] based on her and a bit not, but mostly, the story is based on her. The story I wrote up originally for this project linked in with things about my grandma [e.g. that she is really special as you see from both guy's perspectives in the two different scenarios they are in about their loved ones], so that's why i decided to dedicate this movie to her.
A promo of the movie can be found here:
http://movies.lionhead.com/movie/150591
there ya go.

Many thanks to everyone involved in helping me make this movie, you were all great! BTW, all those who helped me make this movie [from overlays, to sound-effects, music, cast and more] are all credited in the ending credits.
Also, many thanks for all the great reviews everyone, this has been my most successful film on TMO ever. Critically acclaimed, awards won for it and much more [like the No.1 romance ribbon for March, 2008]. Thankyou all once again, I am so thrilled!

Wow...

A really great movie! I enjoyed it and its messages very much. In a way, it was quite philosophical, which is a quality I see lacking in many of today's filmakers, and one which I see shining in yourself. I thoroughly encourage you to make more movies with as much depth an wisdom as this one!

It basically addresses the practical issues of trying to cope with loss without getting too clinical. More can be found on the internet via self-help sites, etc. There's basically 5 stages to grief in random order of random lengths of time feeding back and forth on each othe before finally settling on the fifth (acceptance). The other four, I believe, are: denial, depression, anger and bargianing. You mentioned most of them; but, it seemed that you didn't clarify the other four and may have glossed over a few that for some people linger on for a long time. Since your film dealt with the healthy aspects of acceptance and not the lingering stages of loss, that makes sense in the few minutes that you had to show your flm to the public. This is just a footnote to those interested in the subject. Overall, your movie was excellent and covered those wih a healthy recovery period towards acceptance. Those with mor serious problems should seek guidance from family, friends, someone they can trust or possibly someone more qualified that is able to assist them in giving them the guidance they seek, such as professional counselling.

Dude - that was a wonderful and unique film. There wasn't anything I didn't like about it. The VO's were pretty good, the music was cool and the length was just right. All that aside, it's the message that makes this so outstanding. Very thought provoking. Excellent work.

Lastly: so sorry to hear about your Grandma. I can relate.

This is a really nice piece of storytelling...unusual in its style, but very effective.

A great VO cast here too that further enhance the experience.

All in all, a great collaboration with Nukester...you guys should do more movies together...and an excellent movie, highly deserving of the praise it's received.

A beautiful and effective movie about something we have all experienced - loss. Voice actors were wonderful. Sound effects were very effective and add a lot to the movie. The sound was great too. The story was well told and the dialogue was so realistic. Well written and touching. I am sure that a lot of people are going to want to watch this movie. I recommend it highly.

Great drama! something we need on this site! the music was moderate though, the acting could have been better. Very well scripted, the format was lovely. Yes a very philosophical African American male, we need more like him. His voice did bother me, but he had insightful words. The v.o's were good.
Final Thought- I think this movie teaches people no matter what obstacle we face we have to learn Move On. If we linger on to something, it can throw everything we have dear in our hearts and life into havoc and us destroyed by the trauma would never know that time moves on, and as it does we can lose those dear. Moving On is a line that depics itself. Beautiful Dedication, any grandma would be proud but your grandma would been proud because of you.

Acceptance.

This movie really was one of those movies that inspires the viewer to make their own dramas. It is a story that spreads both a moral and a sadness, but in the best ways, you actually made it so that the viewer felt sorry for the characters, and like they could relate, and, another great addition, they COULD relate, unlike some dramas. This is definitely Derby's strongest film considering it is so deep and powerful. No matter how many one star ninjas or five star hobos, this film should be somewhere up in the ranks. Derby defines acceptance as letting go of something, and many should agree, though it could be other things, it is probably one of the ways he decided to accept his grandmothers death. R.I.P.

Acceptance is a great film about the problems in one's love life. The storyline was very interesting because the stories can deeply relate to someone (not including me). The character development was good in this movie. We got to see the personal feelings of both of the heartbroken actors. But there was one character, the Monologue Guy, who can't be taken seriously. The funky suit, the white fauxhawk, the goofy glasses. I thought that sort of toned down the seriousness of the movie. The sets used were basic, but they were good nonetheless. The voiceacting in this film was excellent. Their voices fit each role perfectly. But the conversations were a little laggy at some parts of the film which was kind of a letdown. For example, one person would say something, wait for a couple seconds, then the other actor would respond. I didn't like that. Overall, this movie is very original and inspirational, and it definitely deserved the medal its recieved. I hope to see your next movie soon. Great movie!

The many positives outweigh the few flaws. I'm sure that I couldn't add insights that other reviewers didn't mention, being that this film was released two months ago. I'm also sure that you've noted those suggestions from your peers.

Derbyrams, derbyrams, derbyrams, derbyrams; what could I possibly say?

You're a genius, an artistic creator, born for the films. Not only did you produce this great film, you also put your own influence within its soul, and really brought the film to life.

Acceptance is probably the most 'eery' (spelling) romance/life-goals film I have ever seen on The Movies Online. Even though it wasn't meant to be eery, I just found it to be, and that You must be congratulated for!

The mods, the music, sound, PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT. So symbolic was such, that one it seems one is drawn to it's shimmering essence, well done.

The Voiceovers were a little hazy and musky at times, but overall were great, you casted the film brilliantly.

Well done, a pure piece of work of art, artistic in both 'Shape' and 'Colour'.

Yours,

julianallees

P.S. I am so sorry to hear about your beloved grandmother's passing, hopefully her life was as fulfilled as this film was; may she rest in piece and solitude.

It'll be 4 stars from me on that one, here is the reason why: as mentioned in one of the reviews below it did remind of those educational films they show you at school. I, personaly, found this movie boring. Still, it looks great and I think it shows your capability to make a good movie, it actually makes people want to take a look at your other works. I know I'll do it.

This kind of film (drama/moral) is right up my alley. I thought the screenplay/script was very well done. The indivdual VO's were excellant. The production suffered two things that have plagued many of my own releases (inconsistant volumes and fade issues) so I am reluctant to knock a star off for these. The music volume could have been reduced though. I find that most music tracks (even at moderate volume) have a tendancy to make spoken dialogue significantly harder to hear. Good job overall.

Posted on May 10, 2008
- Slit518

First off let me start by saying this particular make was not my favorite type of production. It seemed like a documentary or one of those films you watch in school, they don't particularly interest me.
I will say though, that personally I believe you did a good job putting it together. The movie itself made some good points, but it made me wonder what is the point of it. I think it was more or less a message to people stating when things happen in our lives we sometimes have to let them go and move on with ourselves.
I felt the voice acting could of been a little better, maybe it was the voice acting which reminded me of those school films you watch.
All in all it's not a horrible movie, it has its moments, I enjoyed the production and the custom credits and what not. It just isn't my favorite type and it felt lacking in some areas. I can't discredit a movie for it not being of my favorite type, so I have rated this current film 3 stars.
If you need any voice acting done in the future you can ask me, I am usually free on weekends.

Very nice attempt to portray situations and how people react within those situations.

Your music choice is spot on to convey the feelings and the dialogue is quite good, however there are alot of technical faults with this film. Try and polish things off a little more in the future, which includes sound.

As a viewer, we shouldn't have to turn up the volume to consolidate for anything we might/might not hear. I found that having the volume up made parts too loud. So try and look at normalising the volume and making them consistent in the future.

Apart from that, good job!

Sorry for the long delay, Derbyrams. I know you're one of the many people who look forward towards my reviews. I was changing the look of Pariah's Guild during the weeks of absence.

Anyway, to the review!
Despite the amazing story, mods and sfx, and above average audio, there are some problems I had with the movie that brought it down to a three out of five. For one thing, I couldn??t believe the amount of glitches in the movie. Some times in the movie, the scene fade in and fade out for no explicit reason. Also, the movie has some serious editing problems. Throughout the whole movie, some of the timing of audio clips were seriously off. The movie could have been shorter if Derbyrams cut some extra scenes out.

I really wanted to like the movie. It??s been a long time since Derbyrams worked on a romance movie ( his last romance movie was She Will Live Forever Part 3) and really didn??t want to see his work go up in flame, but I can??t ignore the numerous glitches and serious editing problems in the movie. That??s why, the movie gets a three out of five. Maybe next time, Derbyrams.

Acceptance at its core is an interesting concept that didn't jell for me. The major problem for me was the awkward writing for the narrator. It was rambling and imprecise. The film would have been much more compelling as a straight forward story without the narrator setting up the scenes. I would like to see you trust the power of your story to stand on its own. The fades in the middle of the scenes was distracting. Fades indicate the end of a scene and or the passage of time. The music and background sounds did at times overpower the dialog. What I did like about the film was that you stretched and tried something new with the core story. I think your strengths may lie in drama rather than comedy.

Well, better late than never ae :)
sorry this review took ages ive been sooo busy. But anyway on with the show...

Well first things first, Wow, a great piece of the CC creator. This moving, emotional movie really struck me in the ways i hope it did. The Voice work was great, amazing timing and lip syncing was very noticable, the music was the cherry on the top. You have chosen great emotional themed music that suits the scenes in the film afterall music is what makes movies great. The length of the entire film was brilliant, not too long but not too short, perfect. Your story for the film is great, very grown up and adult story that feels real which i think is an amazing thing. The sets were great you have stuck to some original TMO sets but used a good variety of modded sets aswell. The sound was brilliant. From the back chat in the bar to the guys footsteps, brilliantly used. The editing was ok but not perfect. The fade out, fade in was used at random moments but maybe that was meant. The titles, i appreciate them alot because there nice basic titles its classic TMO.

Criticism => The Monolouge Guy's voice was alittle hard to hear at times and did get a little annoying.

Hey every film has at least one criticism but it didn't stop it from being 5 stars. You have pulled it off yet again. and i see that it already has a gold number 1 medal. You did great dude. Looking forward to more from you in the future.

Certainly a different film from your past endeavors. I like the new direction you're taking. I do think it would've been better without the monologue narrations--those clips kept pulling the viewer away from the characters and story, and with the narrator's goofy sunglasses made it hard to take the themes presented seriously.

A great film about the difficult times we go through and if we can endure them or not. This was different from other films of your style, and you pulled it off beautifully. The VOs are great, clean, and easy to understand. There was a great choice of music, and you really have a knack for setting up moods. Editing could have been better, as the spaces between people speaking was noticeable. I liked the mods you've used, and the overlays as well. The best part of this film has to be the emotional impact, which gives this film 5 stars. Great job, derby! Film on! (Three thumbs up)

Introduction

You set the mood very well with the music you had, however I do not see anything giving credit to the musicians who made the music. So to me that is considered a crime against the musicians.

Now when the black man at the beginning starts talking, the voice overs were done brilliantly congrats to him but I really wanted to see some lip syncing. However I will not rate down because of your problem with the lip syncing. Another thing I noticed is that his costume is a bit strange, the glasses kind of ruined it but the rest of it was fine.

When the two men start talking to each other I noticed many large gaps between them talking. If you ever notice when having a real conversation with someone that there are not large gaps between when they are talking. I am just giving you this advice just so for your next movie you can make it more life like.

The voice of the docter is way to muffled. You can not really here it at all.

Character Devolpment

So far you haven't told us the characters names, where they are from, who is their demise? What are their problems?

Some of the voices are very popy and some lack emotion.

However many parts were well done so 3.5 stars rounded to four stars.

Ok, that's a very good movie, man! It was too short, things could've been more developed around the theme, but really it was great! The sound of the actors was sometimes strange but they acted good.

Nice to see a full movie from Derby, instead of all those trailers.
A neat little docu-drama about how to cope with adversity. Be it the loss of a love or a life, you have to learn to deal.
Great voice work and direction.
A little bit of an abrupt ending, but that makes for a perfect analogy to the frailty of life. You never know when it's going to end.
Glad to see a more serious side to your work, Derby.

I joke around a lot and I like to leave humorous reviews but this time because the movie hits close to home, I am not going to do that. The voice actors were very good. I did not hear any sound problems at all. And as a matter of fact, I not only watched it but listened to it without the video. The story holds up very well without any video and you can concentrate on the actors better that way. I am a non-working (LOL) actor myself. Good story and very effective. Good visuals too. Keep it up.

This Movie has some nice Voiceover and this is another documentries about life and how hard it is to accept the problem your facing with. This is very dramatic and kind of sad. Your good at showing example about how hard life is and nice scene use. If only i have stunt and effect expansion pak i could have make awesome film like this one well thanks for the review. You should check out my series the battle of Moon and sun starting at episode "Hell" and if you like it please watch the other episode if you want to know more about it. its my best work yet. This is kinda like the movie crash where people are somehow connected with each other in life. I like this movie awesome film 5star

I liked how it gave one simple message: Acceptence is hard, but it's a part of life. I liked the cast and the mods were nice.
I thought this was a great movie.

P.S. I'm really sorry about your grandmother. I lost my great-grandfather in September. I feel the pain.

Teh Poptart Kid's Review Corner

A very touching romance movie, Derby. I'm sorry to hear about your Grandma moving on.

I loved all the voice actors, they all did a nice job. The music you picked out was fitting for this film as it perfected the mood of the genre.

Great job, overall!

5 stars!

i liked it, it was a good movie, there were a few flaws in the music being too loud etc. but they were more than made up for in the great VO's and i think this film is worth 5 stars

I liked it. The voice overs were great, I liked the music, and everything else. 5 stars :) The only complaint I had was when Julie was in the car talking, the music overpowered the VO's there. But other than that, great film.

A lot of work went into this, but the music being too loud, and the new music each scene killed it for me. I think the actress in white did the best job, pretty believeable, and the rest did good jobs also. I just didn't really understand why this was made, other than acceptance of life as it is, as it happens, and as a tribute. It just felt flat to me, it lacked drama and tension other than the romance on the rocks, which was the best sequence in my opinion. All the other ratings aside, this movie just didn't have a very strong emotional impact for me. I'm actually kind of mystified as to why others gave it 5 stars.
I'm sorry for your loss.

I *really* liked the whole idea of having this movie here, because it's really a change in topic, to say the least. However, I feel the point would have been driven home more effectively if it hadn't been so clinically exposed if you know what I mean.

Also, I felt there were important lacks in the way of story-telling, but then again, maybe this was not your intention as a filmmaker. However I still feel it would have been more engaging had it involved a liiittle more drama.

All in all though, it was a well-edited, well-intentioned movie and I feel like giving it 5 stars :)

A serious movie that deals with the important yet difficult times of our lives, This movie made him think of the things we sometimes take for granted and show how most people cope with them though I need not to say most of us have gone through it and though sometimes we wish to forget we can't..we can never forget.

In final thoughts.

Everything happens for a reason we have no control of it the pain will be in our memory though the love will be in our heart.

That was a great movie. It's unique from other movies which makes it all the more entertaining. The music and sound effects were spot on. I especially liked the dramatic pauses although they were a tad unneeded in some parts, but I did enjoy the atmosphere and feel that it gave. I'm givin it 5/5. :)

Not a bad little film! The message here was really great! Unfortunately, this film suffered from many small flaws. The VO's were very well done here. They were a bit hard to hear because of the music. The music wasn't too loud, it was just too distracting. In the future, try using some music that isn't so busy. Also, try putting the VO's a bit closer together- that'll add some realism to the conversations. The plot here was actually very nice! It was short and simple, but that was the beauty of it! It was easy to follow but still fun! Also, I thought that the narrator dude should have looked different. Those bright glasses and outfit were just a bit too obnoxious for me to take him seriously. Other than that, you've got a good film here! Keep it up!

This film delivers a well-meaning, good message; Accept life as it is and all the bad things that happen, because things do keep on rolling. It's a message a lot of people tend to forget, and sometimes they need reminding.

Still, the pacing was unrealistic with the gaps in-between VO's, and the narrator was too reminescent of a Comedy Corner character to be taken seriously. VO's were on the whole good, but the ever-so-common "Music out-weighing the VO's" problem occured here, which has made me take a single star away from what is an otherwise serious production. It's both surprising and good to see a serious film like this from what TMO usually thinks of as a pure comedy kinda' guy. Film on!

Hey derby, I really liked this film, it was pretty good for something a lot different than anything on TMO. My only complaint is that the voice overs were too spread apart, maybe that was intentional, but it was kind of distracting. All in all though, great movie, I look forward to your future releases!

This was surprisingly good, but flawed... All the scenes were well written, well acted... but it all seemed disjointed some how. They just didnt seem to connect. I never did get the moral, it just seemed to pass by me. Maybe it was loss is loss and the wheels on the bus keep going round and round. It did make me think...
The biggest problem was the sound. It looks like you edited the music to fit the scene... you should have also altered the volume up and down so the actors could be heard while the music played behind...and then when no VO...raise the volume again.
For such a serious work... Im giving you a serious review.
4 stars! You've done very well!

This was a different kind of movie for you Derby and I thought you did a great job of telling this story. I liked the subtle messeges and the character work. The only real glitch for me was at one point the music was a little too loud cutting off some of the dialogue. It wasn't so bad to kill the film though.
Great work Derby. I can't wait to see your next piece of work.

Hey man, that's a nice bit of work. Okay, so there were a FEW things that may have been tuneable, really the only thing that got me were the several pauses after someone finished talking. I didn't have an extreme problem with it though, and I understand how the lip-synching might not always go so well. I DID appreciate the message though, because I try to go along with those kind of things, that sometimes things just happen and that there's a reason, even though it may not always be clear.
Anyway, a nice flick, and I'm interested in checking out "Aspirations" when it comes around and when / if I get into it.

Wow.. it's out already? Here was me thinking you were going to spend more time on it hehe. Anyway onto the review..

A down to earth sort of documentary that has short demonstrations on the trials and tribulations of accepting loss in many ways.

I thought this was a different type of movie for you which explored new areas and I felt you did a good job getting across the subtle messages.

Technically I have to note that there was quite a lot of things I noticed that detracted from the overall viewing.

There were some editting glitches here and there mixed with some inconsistant volumes (especially for music). There were times where it was hard to hear what was being said when there were other times where the sfx seemed to be loud and distracting.

Overall it was a nice attempt at this genre but I think you could have spent more time polishing this off and it felt a little rushed to me. Still I can see how you've developed through the genres and I look forward to seeing Aspirations.

With all the time you have on that since last year, I recommend you look at technical aspects very closlely, such as sound design and editting. You are on your way and with a little more time you will improve in these areas.

Until the next time dude,

Nuke Well in Acceptance.

My condolences on your loss.

Aside from the sound problems which I choose to ignore, it was a very fine movie. It had a good point and I think it was nice to see a more serious side of you. I mostly know you from CC. I hope you will continue surprising me both with your comedies and serious pictures like this one.

PS. Being that your one of the comedy icons around here, I would appreciate it very much if you would review my new comedy "I Really Think We Should See Other Rabbits". Thank you.

Morally, this was a very nice movie. It really teaches people to accept tragedies that have happened in their life, and I was glad to see that you dedicated this film to your late grandmother.

Technically, however, the film sputters a little. The editing for most of the conversations seemed to be off by a sec or two making the first couple conversations go slow and be unrealistic. Other than that the editing was great. All of the VA's did a great job, but for the doctor's they were hard to hear, and made worse by the music drowning out some of the VO's as well. I think the first song could have been a little sadder, but except for that one the musci (especially the one at the end) was exceptional. The mods were also nice as well.

So all in all, this is a great movie that falls just short of 5 stars because of a few technical things. I look forward to your next project Derby, and thanks for letting me get a sneak peak at this one. :-)

I feel honored to be one of the first few to review this movie. why? This is a biggy! It was edited superbly and the voice acting was as sharp and accurate as a sword. This movie has been put together in an original and whole new way which is something that makes this movie stand out from the crowd. I will be shocked if this movie does not reach the top 5 because it is astonishing. I can say nothing more than this is one of the best releases of this year so far. This is 5 star no doubt about it.
