Priests and Paramedics

"Priests and Paramedics" is a film made by Karl Brown based on the song by the band Pedro the Lion by the same name.

"Hot on the heels of 'Blue Chicago Moon' Karl Brown yet again demonstrates his creativity and vision for setting a distinctive mood. This music poem was subtle fusion of visual and musical properties that managed to tell the story without the use of heavy dialogue. The softly spoken vo's went well with the whole piece although I had to strain a little to hear it but that's just minor nitpicking."

"This was visually a triumph in story telling. My first impulse was to say that perhaps it should have been longer. But I sat back for a moment and let what transpired on the screen before me meld within me and found that what needed to "be" in this short film, was truly there."

"Priests and Paramedics" by Pedro the Lion

Paramedics, brave and strong.
Up before the break of dawn,
putting poker faces on.
Broken bodies all day long.
The neighbors heard a fight.
Someone had a knife.
It must have have been the wife,
husband's lost a lot of blood.
He wakes up screaming,
"Oh my God, am I gonna die?
Am I gonna die?"
as they strapped his arms down to his sides.
At times like these they'd been taught to lie.
"Buddy just calm down, you'll be alright."

Several friends came to his grave.
His children were so well-behaved.
As the priest got up to speak,
the assembly craved relief .
But he himself had given up ,
so instead he offered them this bitter cup.
"You're gonna die, we're all gonna die.
Could be twenty years, could be tonight.
Lately I have been wondering why
we go to so much trouble
to postpone the unavoidable,
and prolong the pain of being alive"

Please note that the song in question is not the music used in this film, as this music is the work of the name listed below in the modifications; Bruscar5. Credit is given in the film through the credits to Davad Bazan as the original story writer, and myself as only for the screenplay adaptation. David Bazan is the writer of most songs for the band Pedro the Lion when they were together, as well as being their front-man and originating member. This note here is to give credit in any fashion not having been credited in the final credit sequence of the film.

Hot on the heels of 'Blue Chicago Moon' Karl Brown yet again demonstrates his creativity and vision for setting a distinctive mood. This music poem was subtle fusion of visual and musical properties that managed to tell the story without the use of heavy dialogue. The softly spoken vo's went well with the whole piece although I had to strain a little to hear it but that's just minor nitpicking.

Overall a solid poetic musical that demonstrates yet again, the distinctive cinematography of Karl Brown!

I look forward to seeing many many more productions from you, until then...

Nuke Well for Priests and Paramedics!!!

Wonderful movie. The melancolic music underlines the atmosphere of the story. I really enjoyed watching.

This really caught me off guard. I had no idea what this would be about and was pleasantly surprised. Beautiful looking movie. Great editing, music and pacing. Very well done. I really enjoyed this. My only critique would be that the VO was hard to hear.
Great job! Fantastic effort.

Can you please review my new movie: Bad Men. Thanks.

KarlBrown

Your film, Priests and Paramedics is a heartfelt film in which brings tears to one's eyes. The film, which tells the story of a couple who are having marital or relationship troubles, captivates the heart with the solemn and emotional music.

This film really brought a emotional story into my heart in which I shall carry one. I have never seen such a beautiful piece of work, in which was so, so short, well done.

Yours,

julianllees

It was really cool. I've never seen a movie insipred by a song. Cool idea! 'Blue Chicago Moon' and 'Priets and Paramedics' are amazing! As nukester says: "Overall a solid poetic musical that demonstrates yet again, the distinctive cinematography of Karl Brown!".

My rating chart:
Story: 5/5
VOs: 4/5 (The priest VO you did was good, but, I was a little quite)
Costumes: 5/5
Camera Angles: 5/5
Overall: Five stars or more! (If you could)

I know you've put quite a bit of work on this film, that's why I give you four points. But truely, I find this movie very one sided. That is to say, there's not a glimse of hope,it's just gloom and sorrow all the way. That I think is a deficiency. Nevertheless keep up the good work and good luck on your next project.

Great stuff Karl. Even with a short movie you can make it feel cinematic and professionally done! Your VO's were much better quality than many others that I've heard, although a little low, but nothing too bad. The music throughout was very nice as well and helped a lot with the atmosphere.

And all in 3 hours? I'm amazed.

Not too shabby for 3 hours KB; through a visual medium you managed to tell an intriguing story, and the whole way through I completely knew what was transpiring on screen. Professional in it's appearance, and once again a well-shot film. Glad to see you moving into VO territory again, too =)
You may want to credit the artist of the song or make mention as to where you got the music from though, just a heads up.

This was really a great short-film. First I meant that this was a music video, but not at all. A little movie with some nice camera angles, intensive atmosphere and a nice message - and of course: Great music! Worth of five stars

Simply flawless KarlBrown! Your talent is shining here on TMO. This was visually a triumph in story telling. My first impulse was to say that perhaps it should have been longer. But I sat back for a moment and let what transpired on the screen before me meld within me and found that what needed to "be" in this short film, was truly there. I tip my hat to you.
