An engaging crime story set in the near future. Well played for the most part and well edited too. The script is excellent, although there's one Hollywood coincidence which requires a suspension of disbelief (the female cop's brother is a junkie and just so happens to be buying drugs off the same dealer that she wants to question).

The attack on "Carlson's" could have been done better - all we got was an exterior view of a building and some not particularly evocative sound effects supposed to sell the carnage going on inside.

I didn't like the scratched camera lense during the opening and I thought there should have at least been a title for the film.

But the characters were well formed, and there was a lot of meat on the bones (to quote one of Elliot's lines from the movie) to this story; good lines. I hope one day to see the sequel which is no longer on the internet as far as I can see.

Great movie shells! Two questions, what was with the cop's office being covered in blood? And was the song in the intro from the movie Troy? It sounded similar.

Other than that everything was really good. I liked the storyline, but the ending kind of just cuts off in the middle of nowhere. However, when part 2 comes out I'm sure they'll be joined well. If I may offer up with I think is going to happen [warning before you read this if you haven't seen the movie] I think Ralph is going to get jealous and call Leonetti to warn him that Rafael is coming, and then get Rafael killed and then Leonetti goes to the cops and the boss thinks its all Rafael's fault and Ralph then has to solve the crisis.
But thats just what I think would happen.
Anyway, excellent movie! I look forward to part 2

A very good movie you have here Pooka, The VO cast was excellent and I especially liked the beginning with the detective's monologue. You're set dressing was pretty damn good too but the bloody office just didn't feel right. the whole thing also reminded me of Blade Runner.. slightly. Five stars.

Hi pookashells!
What an interisting pîece!
I like a lot your script, it's very well written. There is an excellent intensity in your movie. The characters give some strength to the film, the work from the actors is professional, it's a huge pleasure to follow the dialogues.
I like the dartk atmosphere which is in the movie, with all those sets and backdrops, the soundracks and overall the music. You've made good job on it.
And now, I'm going to see the second part ;).

great film!

Great Vos and good music selection. plot is top notch so far! There where a couple of hang up I though some better scene selection for dialouge or a least a different angle so the person who isnt talking dosent motion too much. The blue tiles showing didnt seem like your work at all. Im still tring to figure out the purpose of the space suit...

Angels Fall rises to a new level of filmmaking. The plot is intense and leaves you wanting more. The sets were used well as were the sound effects. Mrs. Guppi and sparky1512 delivered wonderful performances as the lead characters. Pookashells has much to be proud of with this film.

Very nice camera-work and excellent sets.
The cast was very good, everyone gave very nice performances and shined in their roles. Great work dude. The music was brilliant! Very well chosen.
The editing was spot on as was the pacing.
Nearly clocking in at 28 mins, and it went by so quickly. I thankyou very much for making this great film, very good stuff. Well done dude.

Well Pooka, I must say that you've done a splendid job creating an original story set in a dark, moody future, with some well-played and unique characters who come to life, however I can't speak as highly of the directive choices you made in this film.

The script was fantastic, some excellent dialogue was conveyed by the many brilliant voice actors in the film, and you really built some suspense around the story, as you weaved in and out of the personal lives of the characters, bringing us closer to them. I like the whole future crime-scene thing, and you've done a great job in creating something unique.

The gritty atmosphere you built around the film was superb; the dark street, dark offices, dark world, but at times the world just seemed too black with the black backdrops, as I would've liked to see a backdrop showing off the rest of the dark city/building with a bit more detail or whatever rather than a solid black, and while I do believe this is the style you were going for, a solid black seemed a little less realistic. Also, there were many strange occurrences with props appearing/disappearing, but they have already been mentioned so I best not reiterate.
On many occasions throughout the film I was questioning your decisions: The bloody office, Dekker's expression on the phone, the corridor thing that Dekker and Elliot used with the gothic walls, Dekker's expression on the phone and a few others which seemed odd. Overall I think you did a great job with the camera with no real awkward shots, although you failed to cover up the scaffolding in the office on one shot, and the "edge" of many sets with the camera. One shot I liked was the atmospheric one of the underground or wherever they were establishing shot when Dekker's on the phone to Lionelli, but of course that was ruined by Dekker's cheesy grin.

Another thing that troubled me was the occasional jumpy editing where a character would move straight after they finished talking, giving the scene an unprofessional feel. One thing that I always talk about also is "aligning" the annoying character movement with the dialogue so that the character that moves only talks. Overall I noticed there were some very difficult scenes to direct, and you did a pretty good job, but at times it did feel a bit choppy.

The use of music was superb, I loved the beautifully placed score, and especially the ambiance you used for particular scenes which created a real dark and moody atmosphere. The VO's were all superb, brilliant acting by all.

One scene I loved was how Elliot couldn't find parking! This is the first movie I've ever seen where a character in a film struggles to find parking rather than parking right in front of their destination, which shows your attention to detail in the script and push for realism.

Overall, the story and interaction between the characters really carried the film through and shone over the rough, unpolished editing, and enough for 5-stars. I can't wait to see how it evolves in Part Two!

Simply amazing, Pookashells! Why haven't I seen many of your other films?! I've been missing out!

THE GOOD:

Wow, where do I start? This movie was flawless in all technical aspects! The fact that you had no sound synch bug in a 27 minute film is impressive in itself! The editing was clean, I have zero complaints in that department. The freecam smooth and very well used here. The camera really brought the scenes to life! Another thing that brought this movie to life was your cast! The lines were clear, well-delivered, emotional, and...perfect. Each character, with his or her own distinct voice and look, really stood out! Another great thing about this movie is the music! It was subtle, but eerie and sometimes unnerving! It kept me on the edge of my seat during action sequences, and biting my nails during the more suspenceful ones. The mods were great here as well! You created a whole other world! Your attention to detail here is very impressive!I felt like I was watching characters move through an actual city, and not just a pixelated machinima land! You combine clean editing, stellar voice acting, masterful camera work, and perfect music to create the perfect atmosphere! The atmosphere was tense, dark, and eerie at times. It heightened the mood and accented the dialogue. It was perfect in every way, and it made me want to drool! But this is absolutely nothing compared to this film's story. The story here was intricate, well thought out, exciting, and entertaining! It delivered so much, but at the same time, it kept me wanting more! I can't wait for part 2!

THE BAD:

N/A!

THE GREAT:

My favorite part was the crime scene investigation! That corpse without a head was freakin' awesome! Muahaha...blood all over the place...that's my kind of movie! :D

OVERALL:

Editing: +
Freecam: +
VO's: +
Music: +
Mod Usage: +
Story: +
Atmosphere: +
Exploding heads: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++!!!!!!!!!!

With no technical flaws and great directoral work, this is a film that should not be missed! I'll be eagerly awaiting part 2! 5 stars all the way!

Dark, Raw and Stylish. The three words that come to mind when watching this superb movie. I love your direction technique, and the portrayal of the characters and the city.
Some excelent VO work backed up with a superb musical score. I adore this movie; it reminded me of a darker, more dangerous version of 'Scramble'.
I look forward to seeing the second part.

Now that had a dark atmoshere. You made this so well by adding little details like filming lights with the shadows they give off and filming gross stains on the walls to show how run-down the city is and how its beginning to crumble. the characters also were very real. Is it just me or are rick and amy falling for eachother? The first scene with the black line overlay(dont know how else to describe it) WAS SUPERBE the overlay set the dark grisly atmosphere and the head getting blown off was all so real. the crickets in the background when it was night time really help the atmosphere too. and when you could hear gunshots and screaming durring the gang hit was so sweet. The music drove the movie and it fit the scenes perfectly. An all time favorite movie of Insane Warrior Productions you have created pookashells. Deffinatly a masterpiece and part 2 will be worth the wait.

If there's one word I can use to describe this film, it would be: Smart. Smart writing, smart acting, smart direction. No eye-raising, questionable lines. The film respects the viewer, and calls for a very gripping, and yes, smart thriller.

The storyline was brilliant, and left me desiring for a spiritual successor (A.K.A. a sequel). The VA's were great, although not crystal clear at times. The setdressing and mods were a great visual treat, and the music fit the film well, adding to the dark, gritty feel. (I like the use of the piano.)

Overall:
An intelligent, gripping thriller that's emotionally taut and visually pleasing.

I certainly have been anticipating this for a while and after watching, I'm definitely impressed with how it's unfolding. Everything blended into a gritty futuristic symphony where you can't trust anyone. A marvelous job all round from cast members, set dressing, freecam, and a most impressive script. The only little nitpick I have is I didn't quite understand why the ground in the police station is blue in some shots and cement tiles in others. Just minor and not enough to knock off a star.

The script was tight and contemporary. Expanding on it would make it as good as a lot of what we see on network TV, and frankly better than some. The plot you developed was surely worth your effort and well conceived. I noticed an overlay blip while Rick was on the phone to Dickson's bar. There was a music/fx transition scene that was masterful, smooth and perfectly in sync. Overall, the music underscored each scene wonderfully. There were a couple of areas where the VOs got heavy. I truly wish I could give you 4 1/2 stars because it is that close to being perfect. As a new member, I can learn so much from your abilities, experience and obvious talent. Well done!

A very interesting crime movie, that despite being near 28 minutes it kept more hooked all the way through, which is an instant plus.

There was a interesting selection of mods used in this movie that gave it a very dark atmosphere, my only gripe is the blood stained office, it didn't fit.

An excellent selection of music, some felt a bit loud at times but a excellent choice nonetheless, fitting the movie very well.

The prop placement was great, giving a uniqueness to the sets and even constructing your own. Bluescreen was used effectively, although I got the impression that some scenes lacked some extra props, such as the interview scene which just had a black background. I don't know if this is the prop dissappearing bug. If it is, you should add such things to the movie description.

The dialog and character interactions in this movie was excellent voiced by a great cast, however the buzzing noises that occurred with some seemed distracting.

And finally the free cam and editing was excellent some great camera movements and such was a great addition.

A great start, look forward to the next part.
Strider Out!

It's really difficult to keep a viewer interested in a TM Film over nearly 28 minutes. Angels Fall does that very well! All the mods, background sounds, music and of cause this very very well written skript keep my interest. The Voice actors did a really good jo, no wonder it's an all star cast, they have to be good, just why are so much background noises? That's not what we normally get to hear from great actors like the ones in here(woun't name them!), it really is distracting at times.

But like I said before the skript is really really well written, has to be one of the best written films on TMO. I really like Angels Fall as Film, no wonder since I'm a sucker for thrillers. And if you over come those few little thing like the background noises in the actors voices, the lip sync which wasn't good at times and maybe a bit faster pacing, then the second part will be outstanding!

great work! I eagarly await the second part! =)

Strong start for this story. Liked the characters and their voicework. The story is an intriguing 'Who done it?' which I look forward to having concluded(?) in the next part.
Some clever camerawork and set dressing. But there was also some weird set dressing and bad camera placement; seeing the edge of set and weird floor choices.
The sound effects and music was well placed for the film.

This is a little bit of a case of "what could have been"... It's a fantastic film at its core - one of the best written crime dramas we've had on TMO. Voice acting is superb, and so much of it is lavishly executed.

Technical issues come in these bizarre waves... Voice-overs have humming noises, and I think I even heard some mouse clicks. At times it got so distracting that I found myself going back to re-listen to entire conversations. Music was very nicely used, and in the times ambient noise kicked in it was very suitable -- loved the subtle cricket noises in the background. Other times - and these were mostly when I could hear the voice-over problems - ambient noise was non-existent. Most of the "foley" sound effects were good, but a few (like the doors opening and closing) were too loud.

Visually, this is almost always extravagantly dressed up. There were a handful of occasions that it really takes you out of the film though -- some shots that pointed off the set (you could see the set scaffolding in the office near the end), another section where they mysteriously walked onto a blue floor. Besides those few places, I loved the set dressing and mod work put into this.

Only one minor hiccup in the story for me was the eyebrow-raising moment the lawyer waltzed in, immediately after the chase. Heh heh. You played with that a bit, which *almost* made me forget about it. Besides that, I'm in love with this story; and equally in love with the dialog and characters being developed.

A very high 4 stars here, and I would still recommend this film... Address the technical concerns, mostly with the voice-overs and occasional visual gaffe, and part 2 will easily find its way into a solid 5 stars with a very high recommendation.

Hrm....This movie is very, very difficult to review properly, but I'll try to do my best anyway...

First let's start on the plot. Very grand script, great characters, unique setting (I assume it to be in either the future, or a kind of alternative universe), plus some genuinely good moments of ambience.

Onto the sound. Music fit like a rubber glove and I would seriously love to use a few of the tracks from this in my own movies sometime, although the song at the beginning seemed to be too amplified for it's own good. On the topic of amplification, I must go against one of my principals of having formal reviews and say something that I really feel must be said: "Wtf dude?". I get that some VO's might not have been loud enough - But honestly, it seemed like you took half the lines, threw them in audacity, and maxed out the volume instead of taking a bit of extra time to either use noise removal and/or getting them loud enough to be heard, but not "overpowering" perse - Such as Sisch's, Sparky's, and my own. Regardless of that, however, the music and majority of VO's were quite good (Although as a nit-picky issue, I don't understand why an LA-born cop has an English accent, LOL!).

Now about the directing...Hrm. Some good camera angles, relatively good set dressing, and nifty use of scenes are kind of blacked out here by a large amount of flaws. For instance: Amy drinking while talking; it could have been fixed if you just filmed the "Face Close up" with free-cam several times, then put in-between a cut scene of her on the couch drinking (I know what I just typed doesn't quite read-right, but hopefully you get what I mean). The disappearing props aren't technically your fault and are only really noticeable during the phone call with Leoneti - which brings me to mentioning Dekker's bizarre facial expression while on the phone. Why on earth did ya' set his mood to "Happy" and not "Neutral"? Obviously, the random actor smiling is beyond our control and is ignorable - But it appears as if you actually wanted him to smile goofily. I know, I'm being picky - But it seriously stuck out like a sore thumb. It seemed like as the film went on, the camera angles became increasingly clumsy, with more and more frequent mess-ups.

The bloodstained office made absolutely zero-sense. Otherwise, however, the mod use was quite nice.

So overall let's recap this movie...Grand plot, great ambience/setting, Good sound design, mostly good voice acting despite over-amplification and a few random nit picky issues on accents and actual line delivery, decent but unrefreshing and clumsy camera usage, awkward scene use, and a generally nice use of mods.

My closing words are this: I wanted this film to be five stars, and having read the script it should have been. But seeing it on screen is admittedly somewhat of a disappointment. Hopefully the next part will be better, and I regretfully give this four out of five stars.

- Orky.

Whoa! That film was off the hook! The whole thing felt gritty and grimy and definitely brought out the seedy underbelly of L.A. I loved all the mods and how you retextured the office. The overlays in the beginning were great, and I loved your ingeneous use of the blue screen for some original looking sets! The VO's were great along with some excellent writing. The music fit perfectly, especially the stuff in the beginning. The freecam was top-notch and some of the best I've seen, frankly. Everything about this movie was awesome.

Oh, and the exploding head was a nice touch, too. :-D

Can't wait for part two.

well, a dystopian future CSI style. For me, the tension and suspencfull intensity could not be sustained. And some of the VOs didn't match the characters. But on the whole, a good solid production.

Excellent work my friend! Ever since I saw the thread of the film on the forums, I knew this was going to be good. "Angels Fall" had me stuck into the film from start to finish! Sure the movie is long, but it had so much plot into it and great voice acting.

The begining of the film was great, I loved the opening comment. Opening overlays were nice. "Angels Fall" has a very wonderful cast! They all sounded great in this one. Storyline for the film is fantastic! Its something that detectives have to deal with everyday. Made me feel like I was standing right there helping on the case! So much dialogue was in this film. You wrote it very well. Outstanding performences by Sparky, ms._guppi and all the rest of the cast!

Music in "Angels Fall" was phenomenal. All the right sounds, rhythm and beats made this film come to life. Opening music was great and the chase scene music was great too. You did an excellent job on finding the right music. Sound effects were amazing. Its always nice to hear different ones.

Mods in the film were good. It really gave out that LA look and feel. Nice job on re-texturing the office. Blood everywhere looked real! Lots of wonderful mods can be found in "Angels Fall". Your set-dressing was outstanding! Opening scene was the city street. You gave it your own style to make it feel like a ghetto side of LA. The characters were dressed well for the film. Really gave the detective look.

Camera angles were amazing! It showed that you worked hard on trying to get every angle right with what was going on in the scenes. When somebody talked most of the time the camera focused on them. Chase scene angles were excellent which made it feel really fast-paced! Great overlook of the streets. Freecam was an A+.

Only thing that wasn't right was maybe not covering up the ends of the sets. In a few scenes you could see the metal sides of them. A couple of times when they would walk and talk you saw the blue screen's floor. They don't bother me but just wanted to point it out. Other than those things I really didn't see anything wrong. Great film pooka, I really enjoyed it. This film should become popular right away. I'm looking forward to part 2. Good job and keep up the hard work.

Good work!
Very good characters, and a story that keeps you wanting more!
Great vo's and use of music, too, though my minor nit-pick here is that the music was sometimes a tiny bit too much amplified, at least it sounded like that on my set-up.
Nice cam work and overlays!
I'm looking forward to the next part!

A great, thrilling first part of this police crime drama. With this futuristic, yet classic style you are definitley on the winner's way. Nearly each scene was introduced by wonderful camera movements and ended as well with them. Those movements build up the stage for the well written dialouges, performed by excellent voice actors. And also the music and Sound Effects work great and care for a great atmosphere.

The story seems to be very solid written and I like the plot, as there's is from start to beginning a nice speed and it's interesting. I truly wonder how it's going on and can't wait to see the next part.

Unfortunately there have been some really bad things in terms of direction in this first part. The scene around minute 12:15 (where they talk and walk) is so often repeating, it simply looks ridicoulos. I also noticed that some props (the phone in the Underground station e.g.) are appearing and disappearing and you see sometimes the end of the set. I also like to mention that those black backgrounds might look stylish, but it leaves a bad impression to me, and also shows that you have been in some situations quite careless.(the red background in the beginning was so damn looking good!)

Other than that this is an absolutley great thriller. A great watch!

This is an amazing piece of work. Quite honestly Pooka I'm in awe of how wonderful this turned out.
I loved the story. It's deep and complex. The writing seems very tight and everything from story to dialogue flowed smoothly and seemlessly.
Your direction looks to be flawless. The camera work was awesome. Mods were perfect for each scene.
The VA cast should be commended for doing such a brilliant job. Everyone put in a great effort.
All in all I really think everyone should see this. It's a great movie from beginning to end and I can't wait for the next installment.

A very good atmospheric crime drama. Shows both sides of the law in great detail. The VAs were very good and all fit their roles perfectly. My only complaint would be that you could see the edge of the sets in one or two shots, and in the police station (I believe it was) the floor could've been a different color than the default blue. Other than those trivial details, a very good film. Anxiously awaiting part two.
