Film Description
_______________________________________________________
*SPOILER ALERT*

In my older films I always included an analysis of the movie's message. The issue in "Extinguished" is, simply, the death sentence. The pros and cons are summarized in the dialogue between the Reverend (K4ownzall) and the Stellar Alliance engineer (Goofparade).

There are arguments for both sides in this film. Here are a few events to note...

Both Hector (A_N_D) and Nora (Dulci) perform acts of redemption after their escape--Hector sacrifices himself to save the ship's crew, and Nora resists the temptation to escape through the use of drugs, as well as putting an end to Dr. Ein's nefarious career. On the other hand, they also both commit murder in the course of their escape (Hector shoots the engineer, and Nora does in Dr. Ein).

Hector's final scene shows his face peering through the round gray window of the pod. Yet there is still hope that perhaps his soul will be redeemed through his final acts. Nora seems to be the only one who escapes safely, yet her final scene also shows her peering through a round gray window. Does this mean her act may have damned her despite her noble intent?

There are also additional issues such as the Reverend's good intentions versus the disastrous results, and the shifting sympathies depicting the Freedomists first as terrorists, and later as saviors.

END SPOILERS ________________________________________________________________________

A special note of thanks to Hagent for the animated overlays (ungodly stuff, as usual), and for the hair mods by BudBundyMullet at www.freewebs.com/6headedmonster. Thank you Sherwin Liu for the gracious use of your special overlays. Thanks also go out to Trewill7 for creating my signature banner. Some reviewers have expressed a fondness for the egg pod, so I can't resist adding that I myself created that! Finally, a huge, huge thanks to Norrie for composing some stellar music scores which really added impact to those scenes.

Awards Won: "Fabbo" from UberNewbie, "Nuketastic" from Nukester, "Tre-riffic" from Trewill7, "Pimp Award" from RJAnaconda, "Bricksfilms's 300 Award of Excellency", "the Golden Pig of Superiority" from Colingaiser, "EObaggs Approved", Boombox277's "Big Boom Award", "6-Star Award" from Andy_Inc, "Diamond In The Rough" from Greenglades, "Best Screenplay" and "Best Sci-Fi" from SGPorsche's 5th Golden Film Awards, and the first "L.M.A.O. Studios Stealth Award."

For those who have watched my "the PASSAGE" mini-series, you may notice that the Freedomists are the good guys in "the Passage"--the Holdfast Confederacy. This tale is told from the perspective of their adversary, the Stellar Alliance. "Extinguished" takes place fifty years before the events of "the PASSAGE" when the war for the Holdfast's independence was just starting. By the way, Dr. Ein is a distant relative of Rear Admiral Mel Ein in "the PASSAGE"--thus the family resemblance ;)

I spent three months writing and filming the story you've just seen, and now that it is finally done, I am reluctant to leave this universe. However, I will return in a few months to complete "the PASSAGE" mini-series. Now...it's on to "the Source" (my collaboration with Trewill7), "FATED 2", and then "Foreign Powers" (a film dealing with international terrorism).

Absolutely amazing. I can't even believe what I've just watched. Hell, I almost cried during this film...it's moving. It's daring. It's emotional. It's powerful. It's every bit as high a quality as any Hollywood film I have ever seen.

I have never seen such a terrific blend of literally hundreds of emotions work so well. Never has a movie on TMO been as moving as this was. Halfway through, I totally forgot that this was even a Sci-Fi movie. Because the story dealt with totally human characters. There weren't necessarily any protagonists, as the Reverend truly believed that everyone deserves a second chance. This was a tearjerking film, and now, 10 minutes after watching Extinguished, my hands are still shaking. Why? Because this movie is the best movie on TMO.

Heck, I even feel like THAT'S an understatement! How does that work?

How's this then - this movie tops most of the movies I have ever seen in any theater, DVD or online site. How's THAT for a compliment?

This movie doesn't deserve 5 stars. This movie deserves 300.

You left your viewers thinking about the moral, which was an incredible feeling. Even now, I'm trembling, thinking about the story I watched unfold. This story was absolutely explosive. I am on the verge of crying, but I don't even know why. This film leaves you hanging, and if you start crying, it leaves you thinking about why you're crying.

Brilliant. Magnificent. Explosive. Huge. Sad. And so enormously successful.

I dunno if you've ever considered it, but you should become a Hollywood film producer, as you have clearly shown here what you can do with the resources available, and that's a hugely admired trait in Hollywood.

You HAVE to make more movies. There's no other way to put it. Movies are where you belong. And when I see a movie of yours out in theaters, I'll leap to the nearest seat without even stopping to get popcorn. You are amazing.

Here's your advice:

You have amazing skills with editing and movie producing. You have shown amazing prowess on this site. Now go out and do the things you want to do. If you can dominate TMO with this amazing, earth-shattering film, then you sure as heck can do it in other places too. Good luck, man. I admire your work, and this is your finest.

Keep filming.

Good luck.

The first suprise came with the beginning and there should follow many more. I don't remember reading anything that it would be a Sci-Fi Movie. And you have to think about it: JosephKw starts a Production and mentions no where that it's a Sci-Fi Movie. And also the poster doesn't look at all like one for Sci-Fi Movie.

And maybe at the first look EXTINGUISHED is a Sci-Fi Movie, but soon you will notice that it doesn't have that much to do with any Sciene except the black holes. Joseph always had a great touch for his characters and EXTINGUISHED is an absolutley novelty, as he focus on the characters so much and creates such an intense atmosphere. While watching the movie I thought that only those 3 prisoners and their "redeemer" count, forget about the outside world, the only things that are important are the decisions and the ways of them.

Though I was confused by the first minutes, I soon got into it and had a great time watching it. This is not like Stir, a movie that makes you angry and makes your heart beat within a restricted area, this is a movie that clears all the fault and pros, on an analystic way. While Stir is for your heart, EXTINGUISHED is food for your brain cooked by a five star cook.

We all know that JosephKw is certainly one of the best directors on TMo and no one should really wonder if he see a Joseph Kwong Movie in the cinema some day. Now I loved the camera angles in the beginning with the shadow look and later with have seen great angles in the conversations combined with a superb cut. The overlays cared for much intensity in the end and cared for a fastbeating ending.

In any JosephKw movie we hear great Voice Actors. Of course EXTINGUISHED is no difference and the cast lists is shorter than on The Passage, but as perfect chosen as many times before. Another special gift to the movie is the music. Absolutley great tracks have been composed for the movie.

So, well, I don't want to say that this is the best JosephKw Movie ever, because you can never be sure what ideas Joseph gets in the future. However, EXTINGUISHED is the best JosephKw Movie I've seen yet. If the Romance GAGA is named after Postmodernchuck, the Sci-Fi GAGA should be named after Joseph.

It's not often I see a sci-fi movie that forces me to contemplate my stance on fundamental issues like the death penalty.

I've always been a fan of your voice work, josephkw, but I'll admit this is the first movie of yours I've seen. I'll tell you what, though, it certainly will not be the last. This is one of the highest quality films I've seen here on TMO, in terms of both production value and story.

If you're looking for two dimensional characters, you've come to the wrong place. Just about every character in this film is fully fleshed out, and most evolve drastically over the course of story. The decisions they make throughout the movie are those made by humans. Not heroes, not villains, but humans, and this really lets us connect with each and every one of them. The characters really drive this film home.

Of course, these human characters would be nothing but lifeless 3D models and textures if it weren't for the fantastic voice cast behind this movie. All of the voice actors did a stellar job bringing this movie to life.

Norrie out does himself again with a powerful, yet subtle score. It evokes powerful emotion, even if we do not realize it.

This has proved to be one of my favorites here on TMO. Fantastic job to everyone involved, and congratulations, Joseph, on creating a masterpiece.

OK, well here goes. I had to watch this twice before I could bring myself to try to put my thoughts and feelings into words; and I fear I shall still babble incoherently.

Guilt, innocence and redemption: extraordinarily complex themes, sublimely portrayed.

The four main characters were drawn with such care; such attention to detail; and such feeling, that it almost beggars belief.
To my mind Hector truly redeemed himself: the self-confessed guilty one, with no sense of guilt, accepted his fate, and by doing so, in some way, redeemed the Reverend's ethos as well. They both won.
The self justified innocence of Mel Ein was fascinating: no guilt, no responsibility, just a solipsistic view that it was all a game. Did he deserve to be executed? Was Dora justified in making that decision? Complex questions, deserving careful thought.
And Dora. Poor Dora; doomed to escape again. Outwardly feeling guilt at making a bad decision, blaming everything but herself, she doesn't change ?? perhaps suffering the worst fate of them all.

The Reverend: the only true innocent. And look what he does. Do his actions deserve praise or condemnation? His terminal disease make his actions dubious ?? Why help those three? An arbitrary decision based on time left, because of overwhelming guilt about his passive past? I don't know, but if that's so it makes him the guiltiest of all.

I'll stop now, or I'll just keep going for hours. All that's left to say is that this is a tour de force An incandescent display of writing, filmmaking and acting. Bravo Joseph, bravo.

The Best Filmmaker on TMO is, without a doubt, Mr. Joseph Kwong!

The Best Film in TMO history is, in my opinion, without a doubt, Extinguished!

I am not being kind, I'm being honest.

Josephkw has made many powerful films here for TMO and our community; and we have all enjoyed them, then eagerly sat back, and awaited the next, and the next.

With each film, his overall filmmaking got better, and better, and better; hitting a stride with a string of MEGA-HITS; May Flowers, Hadean, and then just when you think his films couldn't get any better, he gives us this Absolute Masterpiece, Extinguished.

Never has the word, "Masterpiece", been such an understatement for a TMO film.

His ideas and critiques of the Death Penalty are abundant in this film, making for a POWERFUL & TRULY MOVING tale of sacrifice and redemption.

Everthing that makes Josephkw, Josephkw, and present in this film, 10 fold. Masterful Writing, Impeccable Timing of Critical Plot Points, Astonishing Cam-work, Breath-taking Action Sequences that blow your eyeballs out of your brain container, Flawless Direction and Editing.

The VO performances by the leads are simply put, Magnificent. K4ownzall puts on his most powerful performances to date; AnotherNewDawn, as Hector Asura, is just Amazingly Brilliant, he continues to concrete his legacy here on TMO; and Dulci, man oh man, Dulci; solidifies her stance as one of TMO's best leading ladies. And dare I forget that scene stealing performance by the one and only Goofparade. My hats are off to all of you, your performances were more than worthy of the Big Screen.

The Music; what can I even say about it? It just has to be experienced, praise to Norrie for some of those stellar musical pieces.

WOW! WOW! WOW!

The Greatness of this Film CANNOT be denied, it just simply cannot. It is truly an honor to know that I will be apart of several collaborations with this very talented and dedicated Filmmaker.

Thank you Joseph, for giving TMO & this community such a Wonderfully Crafted Film, that shows the Power of Choice and the Human Spirit, can NEVER truly be...Extinguish.

Great movie. Very moving, very powerful. Great performances all around. A stunning score matched with stunning visuals. Not to mention out-standing special effects! I do believe this to be your best piece of work yet. Which is saying a lot as your work is always of a high standard. I really enjoyed this, it didn't feel like 27 minutes at all, very, very, very entertaining and worthy every second. The story was faultless, really well paced and just the right length, not too short, not too long. Excellent work here Joseph. I apologise for the lateness of my review as this is a fantastic movie, really great. This is a TMO classic! Really ground-breaking stuff that I haven't seen in a tmo movie for a long time. Exceptional. Captivating. Beautiful. Brilliant!
I give this movie: My highly recommended movie award and two big thumbs up!

This was a powerful film that leaves the viewer with much to think about. How can we decide who lives and who dies?

Nothing else I can say can justify the greatness of this film.

Generally, I know it is an unspoken rule to try and do your best to not repeat what another has said...But given the massive amount of reviews, you must excuse me if I simply re-hash everyone else's words; I have found, however, that for excellency such as this there is only so much you can say.

I think the world of this movie, I really do. While I stand my ground in saying that the fifteen-second movie is a better film than any of your others due its quick, simple, metaphorical way of delivering a complicated subject, this is visually the most impressive alongside being the best written. It is deeply emotional and twiddles our brains at the end - unlike many films, this one leaves the ending up to our own interpretation, showing us one thing, telling us another, and hinting at millions of possibilities, with our own views and beliefes coming into play for what we believe is right or wrong - it can be anything, and depends only on what you yourself think happens. There is hope amongst the abyss - an untold, unknown, and displaced hope - but a hope, none the less. Its aforementioned cosmetic side is as amazing as ever, using just enough mods to add to it but not make it - the overlays in particular were astonishing. I am more wordless for this film than I have been for any other, because I cannot sum up the superiority of it in nigh-on every aspect. There was never a time where it faultered, not a second. And while some might find its pacing slow and dragging, I found it to be 100% spot on - it was simply "right" for this film, and no others but this one in particular.

Like the perfect woman, this movie was both beautiful and extremely intelligent. I really must start wearing my fedora or beanie again, you know, because there is only so many times I can use my "if I was wearing one, blah blah" ending before it gets redundant - but for now: If I were wearing one, my hat would be off to you on this 100%. Bravo and encore.

Awesome man I loved the scene at the end where Hector goes to give himself up. With the music and the camera angles and all it made it a really emotional bit for me. I didn't think any TMO movie could make me think so much but every one of yours I have watched has done just that. When I saw that the film lasted over 25 mins I thought it would be really boring and dull but it was anything but that! The time flew and it finished with me begging for more. I think you should make another movie going into more detail about the three convicts' stories and the series of events which led to their capture because I became so attached to the characters so much during those 25 mins that I couldn't bear that there wouldn't be a sequel. A prequel would set this straight.

All the voice actors were amazing and in particular I liked Hector's voice - it suited him perfectly. Despite his shady past and seemingly evil nature his subsequent redemption in attempting to save his captors helped to dispel this 'evil' illusion. I liked your contrast between the two 'evil' convicts where one takes the 'evil' route and the other tries to redeem himself yet they suffer the same fate - actually extinguishment is worse so it leads the viewer to question what was the right thing to do since Hector ended up worse than Ein even although he tried to do good while Ein remained evil. The fact that the 'innocent' character survives is also important since this reflects what the reverend said about God not allowing her to be extinguished.

Overall this has to be the best movie I have seen on TMO and it is a testament to your abilities in film-making that this movie has recieved nothing but five star ratings despite being reviewed almost 100 times. Great mods, great special effects, amazing soundtrack, fantastic acting, unbelievable storyline and script and a message within that remains strong throughout this amazing film.

As you can tell I am running out of superlatives to describe your film so I'll give you a well-earned 5 stars which you hardly need and await with bated breath your next release.

I won't bother asking you to rate my films because now I feel totally undeserving of my 5 star ratings. Thank you for showing me just how far behind I am.

This is the greatest ever film on TMO and sure as hell beats the crap out of most hollywood films. This should be released on DVD as i would definately buy it and I'm sure most people would.

This is a realy amazing storyline bringing together bravery hatred despair and passion which makes you want to keep on watching and not take your eyes off the screen. I couldnt belive the changes in character during the film most notably hector. Who changed from a psycotic mass murderer to a caring man with a conciounse. The reverend dying i found completely unexpected and sad. The intense emotion in this film is something that i couldnt even hope to create in a movie of my own

Keep on making films as they are brilliant and I cant wait to see you directing a motion picture in the cinemas.

If you want to watch my film "knife Edge" that would be kindly appreciated although compared to this masterpiece its nothing.

Good luck in your film making career

I'm without words....
but I'll do my best.

I loved the use of high camera angles, for the first couple of scenes, they really gave us an understanding of our environment. K4 is an excellent voice actor, and that's all I need to say for that. I noticed that when the guard said he would have to start the execution, there was a dark-ish ship background noise, which built tension in my mind. I really liked the costume you gave the priest, it was interesting for the character.

Now when the priest enters the chamber I noticed you put that vignette overlay on the scene, that was effective, but I am unsure as to why it was there. AnotherNewDawn is a genius at voice acting, and k4 put in a scene with him is always entertaining. AND's character seems to be the realistic one in this scene, as we get some character development. LOVED the music that started to play when k4 started talking about souls, it was perfect for the scene and set the mood perfectly.

Now we here of this pod and judging by AND's performance and the dialog, I think it's safe to say this is something they fear. ;)

The priest and AND's character are two very different people trying to convince each other that there view on how it all goes down in the end is correct. This makes an unforgettable conversation, and makes me feel like I am right in there with them. Then we hear of why Hector is going to be executed, or extinguished, which, in my opinion, changes the conversation drastically. I thought the whole dramatic part of the priest telling Hector he needs to kiss his ring was a bit overdone and something that didn't fit into the story too well.

So then we transition to another prisoner who is being held for an entirely different reason, he invented a device that could destroy colonies, and as we see in the world exploding overlay, something did take place. I liked how the prisoner used a metaphor to describe to the priest why he invented such an object. Again with the ring thing, still not in favor of it, but hey, it's leading to something.

Now it's dulci's turn to shine and tell us her story. She does shine, her acting is brilliant as well as her story. It was well-conceived and somewhat realistic. With a combo of Ducli's acting, k4's acting an some rising music, the scene came alive and once again I felt like I was sitting right there with them. Ooooh, a real twist. The third prisoner finds out there is something up with his ring. The scene is turned around, the priest is now confessing to the prisoner, and things are heating up. DUM DUM DUM. But wait, the priest just told us that his ring helps you, and doesn't hurt you. Who to believe? I'll have to wait and see.

Here it is, the prisoner's time has come. As Hector starts to walk out of his cell, the sleeper gas erupts and knocks out the guards. I like how you set the scene up with fast cuts and increasingly intense music. So now we pretty much understand that the priest is helping them escape their custody.

I am really liking the long corridors of the ship, it really gives it a spacey feel. Also, the characters interact with each other which gives us as the viewers a sense of they act.

I still don't like the whole ring idea, but if it's what you gotta do, then go for it.

I liked the standoff scene between the engineer and Hector, it really made me think that Hector was going to shoot. Goofparade is also a really great actor, so far everyone has done really well. Goofprade and k4 really go at each other, though goof is a little more subtle in his argument, this scene was pretty well done as well. So now we learn the truth behind the priests plan, that he had been holding back. So the question of trusting him is put forth in everyone's mind. I LOVED how you played the characters off each other.

As the music rises, the thought put forward is that the engineer might be able to reduce the sentence on the prisoner's if they choose to give themselves up. It's like the prisoners are being tossed around. Who to Believe?

But wait, scratch that, Hector just, out of nowhere, killed the engineer. A major turning point in the film indeed.

Nora overcomes her need to take the drugs and gets the first aid kit. But when she gets back she learns he had died.So now things are changing drastically, what to do? Each prisoner has their own idea about what would be the greater choice. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

Oooh, what I have been waiting for! The big battle scene between the ship and freedomist ....erm....smaller ships. :)

Well done, the camera angles and sound effects were well executed. The overlays might have been a little slow but they were still pretty cool. And of course, where would this scene be without it's music? After al the intense fighting, the ship is doomed to the fate of the black hole.

The reverend is still devoted to saving those who are to be extinguished, but is shot down in the process. I never mentioned how great the set dressing is in this movie. I thought it was magnificently genius the way you showed the freedomists getting off their transport ship.

The group is getting split apart, which in most movies is a bad sign. Out of nowhere, Nora shoots Ein. Another major turning point in the film. Wow! Those two shots of Hector running then kicking the guard in the gut were effin genius!!!!! Seriously they worked so well! K4 is really good at dying. :)

SO now the reverend is dead, and Hector is going to do something courageous, at least I think. There have been a lot of twists, I don't really have any idea what might happen. It's too bad, Hector gets arrested and Nora is alone.

I think this film is great for this one reason, Hector goes from being freaked out about his extinguishment to an understanding and fearless approach to what is inevitable, his extinguishment. So that's the pod, eh? Kind of weak, in my mind, but realistic I guess. I feel a bit sad for Hector, I don't think he really, truly deserved this, but that's the system.

All in all, a true brand of professionalism was brought into this emotionally gripping film. I can hope that you continue making movies here on TMO.

Superbly conceived and scripted. Well delivered acting. Appropriate music and sound placement. Reasonable, as in - not over done, CGs and effects.

When the finished product far surpasses the ability of the game, two things must be noted. The weaknesses in the tools the movie maker and their cast and crew must depend on and, more importantly, the talent of those involved to overcome and shine through.

I've - perhaps wrongly - chosen to see the black hole as a metaphor for the unknown (which is what death is). Most of these characters seem scared to the bones of the black hole/unknown. I was most intrigued by the sequence where they are threatened with being put to sleep - what kind of a threat is that?? .. if the eventual outcome of being "extinguished" in a black hole was the same? [Are we scared of dying in our sleep?] In this futuristic place, spirituality and religion have evolved for sure. These characters would seemingly want to face death conscious - unconscious is not an option.

The most "deserving" character of the death penalty is the one that comes through in the end - and after that he says "I'm not so scared anymore" and willingly takes his final journey. Maybe, we all need to tie up our loose ends before we are ready to take that journey - that seems to be what his (and this) story is about. Most of us will never get the chance. Nearly everybody on death row may never get a chance.

A thoughtful film with very good performances all around, especially from the Priest. The music was very good as well. It's also easy to forget the mods and the visual effects that came into play, given the subject matter.

A very good film all around.

One of the most inspirational, captivating and engrossing films I have ever seen. Such a touching and thought-provoking film with amazing characterizations and wonderful dialogue in a rich and masterfully created world. I am truly left speechless and touched by this amazing piece of Machinima.
Joseph, you have created one of the most amazing films I've ever seen, and my poultry 6-star award does this film no justice, I am just speechless. You are truly one of the most talented directors whose films and masterful story-telling should be on the big screen for the whole world to share and enjoy, and that's why I as a TMO'er feel very privileged to watch films by a director of your caliber.
Everything about this was amazing.

One sentence sums this film up... Extinguished is a masterpiece.

So now you have Boombox277's Big Boom Award too.... add that to the movie descritption. Cold-blooded [bad-word!], I need you to help me make a movie. This is the best Sci-Fi movie I've ever seen on TMO (Enigima- End game came 2nd in my race!) Great Mods, characters, plot, and plain everything! In your next movie, can I help with some voice-overs? I would rate 1000 stars but theres only 5. Great job, and keep making movies! (P.S. Where can I get mods and music?...)(P.P.S. Please check out my movie the Bounty Hunters Episode One)(P.P.P.S. Look for 100 VC from me, I'd give more but I can't spare much)

Morality, Redemption, Justice, Judgement.

Each one of these are huge subjects to tackle, yet they are just a few which are masterfully woven in Extinguished. Occurring in the Universe of Joseph Kwong??s other stellar film series - ??The Passage??, this feature is set aboard a Stellar Alliance ship which doles out a very unique form of corporal punishment. The well-developed characters in this film each share their own motives and system of mores which are widely divergent. The black and white distinction between right and wrong is blurred to an inseparable gray where each act from every character is debatable , the sentence imposed, the philosophies behind it.

The signature of Joseph??s movies is always strong impeccable voice acting. The cast is superb in providing command performances. K4Ownzall gives an outstanding performance as the Reverend. The cast of the condemned give equally marvelous performances - AnotherNewDawn as Hector Azura, Dulci as Nora Deere, and Joseph Kwong as Mel Ein. Other noteworthy performances are given by Goofparade as the Engineer and Ken (Kuroken) White as Captain Warden (nice touch with the name).

The cinematography as always is remarkable, with stunning shots and free cam work. Combined with the amazing CGI special effects of Hagent and overlays by Mixmasterfestus, Marvellousguppi??s great sets, remarkable props by Fraas and Temple (I especially liked the egg), costumes and hair designs and you have a truly professional production which always leaves the viewers wanting more. And not to forget the gripping score throughout which keeps the action moving.

Again, you provide us with an amazing film which leaves the viewers contemplating questions on so many levels. This is a remarkable work. A must see. And I am grateful for your sharing this with the community.

Shame i cant give this film 10 stars.
Brillant
The dialog to depict the charecter development of every charecter was spot on and allowed for serious moral issues to be felt and considered by the viewer. The script in itself is good but the real selling point for me is the "arc" which every film hero should experience. The whole start at one point something happens and the result is the film ends with the character changed in someway. All the characters had arcs and background stories. You have said you spent 3 months on this movie and it shows..

congratulations..

This level of depth is the very reason why The Movies video game exisits. To highlight would can only be described as art.

As good as any movie i have seen on this website..

Really an incredible film in every respect. A good cross-section of characters cover a variety of angles on the death penalty issue, with excellent performances delivered by all the leads... AND's deep piercing voice, your icy deliverance, Dulci's pleas and hopes (perhaps the most moving scene was her story), and K4's conviction. Just fantastic work on the voice acting!

Only one issue on the technical front I noticed: the background ship ambience cut in and out. A lot.
Besides that, the use of set dressing, mods, and overlays is fantastic here. Camera-work and the way you've captured character animations for every detail, also fantastic.

High complements to all your musicians as well -- they really helped set the tone of this film in key scenes.

A mid-to-high 5 stars from me. Loved it!

I am amazed again. I wish there was a new rating system. I've given you 5 stars in the past and yet this movie is better than all the rest in many categories.

I think you have found the essence of what makes a good scifi movie; a great story, great characters, and delivered supurbly amongst the stars. And you didn't even have to abuse technology to move the story ahead. Your time and effort really shows through. I hope one day that you will be able to weave your tale on to the big screen.

Kudoos to you my friend.

Good luck.

Amazing film. This is the epitome of rarity: a TMO film that truly qualifies as art. This is better than a lot of mainstream movies I've seen. The actors all did incredible jobs, the stars and even the relatively minor supporting players. The Reverend's voice carried a weariness that greatly fit the character. Hector and Dr. Ein were each fittingly gravelly and "murderer"-sounding, while Nora had a very true vulnerability to her performance. The themes of the story were well carried out, making the audience really think. And of course, the mods/overlays were phenomenal, some of the best I've seen. Overall, a nearly perfect film.

You've done it again Joseph with another stunning production. The themes expressed in your latest film are certainly something to consider, it was written brilliantly and has appeared perfectly on screen.
The direction was superb with some wonderfull camerawork and cutting. The special effects are seemless and there was some truly remarkable voice acting!
Wonderful selection of music, too, which really helped to empower the atmosphere.

WOW! While I will submit my review and leave this movie page the movie itself will not leave me for some time. That is because Joseph is a masterful storyteller who is able to make you think and tells his tales in a way that doesn't always leave everything tied up in a nice neat bow. I don't know how many times I have watched something on TV or at the movies and said to myself "I know exactly where this is going" and for the most part I am in the ballpark. I could not have dreamed for a minute the conclusion of this film as it left me guessing right to the end.

The production values exceeded prior Josephkw films which is saying a lot! The acting was superb by all. Dulci, AND, K4, and Joseph himself shined. The music score was simply awesome. I can't say how much I really enjoyed this film. Bravo!

Phenomenal.

It's difficult to review a film like of this magitude, because there's so much I want to say yet I can't find a way to say it. All I can seem to muster up are adjectives of praise: outstanding, fantastic, explosive, etc...but I'll try anyway.

This is, bar none, your best work...you have delivered a contextual production stuffed with flawless dialogue, a provocative storyline, a cast that hits all the high notes, and an all-encompassing tone that feels like a sad song you want to listen to over and over and over again. It's a very necessary film, tackling a controversial issue without blatant bias and letting the audience interpret the messages themselves. You certainly know how to make sure your own personal convictions don't spoil a beautiful script.

The best writers in America are not on strike, because they're here on TMO, and this film justifies my point. This writing is just timeless. Each exchange, each conversation...basically, every word enhanced the plot, characters, and the message you were conveying. This was a film about choices and beliefs, so dialogue was crucial in relaying the message and explaining the eventual choices the characters made. You didn't miss a beat. And I was just engrossed by the heated exchange between the engineer and the Reverend...it sounds like me and a friend when we debate over the death penalty (I would be the Reverend in that situation :) ).

And I can't even begin to describe the performances. My goodness, this was a meaty cast, and they DELIVERED! How about TMOscar buzz for my good man k4, who couldn't have been more effective as the Reverend, or for Dulci, who seems to get better and better with each new challenge. Kudos to goof, A_N_D, and the supporting cast as well, making this a FLAWLESS cast. Technically, Sherwin's overlays are sensation, and along with your riveting camera work this film should win some fine technical awards. And finally, I would tie myself in a gunny sack and leap off the Empire State Building if I could have Norrie as a musician for my next film...he's that good (although it's too bad I would be splattered all over the Manhattan sidewalk).

I would make some intellectually stimulating interpretations, but you've already described my exact thoughts in your little essay above...so thanks for forcing me to write a shorter review.

EXTINGUISHED is an outstanding production, and as always, I am drooling over the prospect of your future films.

5 STARS!

This movie deserves an Oscar for numerous reasons. The storyline is absolutely fantastic!!!!!! The twists in the story were DEFINETLY unexpected, and the ending literally made me say " WOOOW". This is yet another in a long line of absolutely BRILLIENT movies from JKW! The sheer fact that the editing was beyond perfection, the intensity of the entire film was above anything i have scene on TMO in months! The soundtrack was brilliantly placed and well composed, the SFX, although not overbearing, were extremely well done.
I know i have said this before, but I personally can only hope to one day come even barely close to this level of story telling combined with On screen action and drama. I bow down before the mighty JKW! Everytime i watch a JKW film i wonder " HOW THE HECK DOES HE DO THAT?" If ANY of my movies were even close to this level of sophisticaion I would enjoy TMO SOOO much more. JKW- YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always tend to repeat myself when it comes to reviewing Joseph's movies.
This is not because I haven't been paying attention.
This is not because I'm his friend.
This is not because everyone else here praises his movies to high heaven.

This is purely because his movies are the best.
I have my favourites here on TMO, but none can match Joseph for his staggeringly high level of consistency and quality.

When I say he's outdone himself again, it's because he has!
This, in his own words, is his finest hour...and I'm certainly not going to argue with that.

Improvements on his previous efforts?
That's a difficult one, as all of his movies have captivated and inspired me from day 1.

I've had the immense pleasure of being at TMO from the very beginning and watching each and every one of Joseph's movies as they've premiered.
I've watched as his talents in all movie making fields have grown and grown...VOs, effects, editing, directing and of course, the incredible scripts.

He now has TMO's A-list begging to appear in his movies and I am just so proud to be a part of his regular team and his amazing productions.

Extinguished is a sci-fi work of the highest calibre.
The VO cast is fantastic...K4 in particular is awesome here.
The score by Norrie...wow! seriously, it's THAT good.
The visuals, the sound, the editing...all top drawer.

But the winner here is Joseph's writing, which is just genius...full stop.

'The movies' is rapidly ageing, but as long as there are storytellers like Joseph here, there will always be something fresh and exciting to watch on TMO.

Am I repeating myself?

I hope so.

Oh crap.....I'm shaking!

Seriously, this film gave me goosebumps! The technical aspects were flawless, the effects were great, the characters were well-developed, and the story was intense. This is what I have come to expect from a Josephkw film! But what else? This movie just blew me away. The message...woah! I liked the way you presented the message, accurately presenting both sides. You let the viewer draw his/her own conclusions. This is especially apparent in the little "gems" you have hidden throughout the film. A perfect example (as mentioned in the description) would be the last few seconds of the film, when Hector and Nora peer through similar windows. I absolutely loved this movie! This is definately worthy of a bookmark! Thanks for making this masterpiece, Joseph.

I do believe EXTINGUISHED is quite a perculiar movie experience, with no over riding message. Becuase everything that this movie expresses appears in an instance. It felt a lot like listening to a Coldplay track after a hard days work and that is a feeling that is hard for a filmmaker to convey. But your eye did it for me. Once again K4 does a incredible job potraying the multifaced and colorful preacher. I really felt for him as a character and the madness he tries to outgrow. A special little notis even though the whole cast did a fine job I think should go to Gp and his remarkable job as the engineer. He always gives the picture he stars in something unique, so even if its just a little role.

A monumental film that was inspiering to watch. And I commend you for that. Royal sum up

Well that certainly wasn't your conventional SciFi...

I mean, what can I say Joseph? You're a genious! No matter what genre, or style is thrown at you, you'll undoubtedly pull it off. Voice actors, as usual, were perfectly selected, and they all performed brilliantly. You have managed to jerk a tear in my eye, with that beautiful ending, which I must say very few on TMO have ever managed to do. I tried to aviod looking at info about this project so I could go in not knowing what to expect and whatever I could have expected was dwarfted.

I thought the use of the fade overlays was very effective as it seemed to single out the character from the rest of the scene, when talking, and drew a much more heavy focus on them and what they had to say. And once again those amazing animated overlays you and your friend managed to muster up are outstanding.

During the first ten minutes I figured the story was going to follow as such, with the reverend talking to a variety of convicted people but it then turned into something I really didn't expect. To hold back on the spoilers i'll just say that the way the characters developed throughout the rest was excellent, though at the same time I felt it to be cliche almost or very familiar, but it still didn't affect the experience of the film and story.

Once again Joe, that was brilliant, as always...

SMOKIN'!!!

Being bedfellows with such great talent is an honour! Norrie's score was perfect as it drove home the most important aspects of the film. Sherwin's overlays and Hagent's CGI was a bonus. Loved Trewill's hair. And it was such a priveledge working with AND, Jase, Biggs, Bezzer, Goofball...er.. I mean GoofParade, and that hot chick named Doocee. I am so glad that Ken got to play a starship captain and had to sling some techno-babble around. I think he is a closet Trekkie. Joseph, watch your drinking...... and CONGRATS on a rapidly rising, critical movie that is sure to be a source of discussion and inspiration for a long time. =====K4====

GREETINGS FROM L.M.A.O. STUDIOS!

An amazing achievement in cinematic art.

This film travels beyond the sci-fi realm and into an epic adventure of an emotional driven masterpiece. The powerful storytelling Joseph exhibits, is relentlessly entertaining. Scene by scene we are drawn deeper and deeper into his imaginative world.

Music usually plays lousy in most TMO films. However, Joseph's musical scores adds so much additional feeling and carries each scene with emotion. Proffesional and fitting.

The acting by everyone is so captivating. Line by line each actors performance is believable and clear. Dulci, as always, is an amazing actor, she knows how to bring the goods!

The special effects, sound, overlays, props and cinematography is always amazing eye candy when it comes to Josephkw's talent. Just a joy to watch and has the viewers asking themselves, ??How'd he do that???

I want to point out an aspect that needs to be addressed when it comes to Josephs films and that is sound. Many films focus sorely on music and minimal sound to carry the acting and story flow. Joseph takes it to the highest level and painstaking paints every scene with very effective atmosphere sounds and marvelous sound effects. Without them the film would be shallow and empty. Bravo!

The story itself is wonderful. Rich with believable and intelligent dialog. A tale of sorrow, hope, bravery and evil, all wrapped up in an epic sci-fi blockbuster.

One word...Exceptional!

Well done my friend!

Truly magnificent film Joseph and somewhat moving (very few films on here have had that effect on me). The story is compelling and made even more by the superior voice tallent on show.

From the beginning I was hooked and my concentration didn't shift one bit. A film that does that to me in my opinion is simply outstanding.

The overlays and just the way the film was crafted make this what it is...a winner in every respect, I really have no bad points to give you.

A well deserved 5 stars for what is in my opinion a film with many many messages, from redemption to religion, and at the end really tugs on the heart strings :)

I recommend this film to all.

Well Done!!

Well Joseph, since this movie felt so well crafted and like it toke you so much time to creat it, I feel like I should also take a bit more time then usual to comment on it.

First of all I have to meantion that this film was in it`s technicaly way perfect. Flawless I didn`t noticed any cutting mistake, any bad cam angle/movment, any wrong prop placement or any changing problem like a costume change or something. That`s rare especially for a film of that length.

Secondly the visuals. These are outstanding! What you showed us was a hugh amount of modding and overlay work. Not that there were just a few special effects to make the audience go WOW, no for the whole film in every scene there were modding details like screen or other sci-fi stuff that all fitted to each other or overlays which just all made a new universe, not compareable to others we`ve seen on TMO before. Together with mystherious and wonderfull fitting music that created an atmosphere to leave me breath and timeless. I was drawn into that film forgetting everything for those 27mins!

Thirdly the characters and the story. Even in real films there rarly is as much character development then in these 27mins. All chacters each and everyone of them has shown his/her positiv and negativ sides. The characters are even so strong and dominating that you forget to follow the story when you`re studing the characters, but it is the story itself which allwos all the persons to show their real character. Like the film headline says: "Sometimes it is in our final moments that we shine the brightest".

To sum it up, "Extinguished" is your best work to date and one of the most inspiering and most flawless films on TMO.

Joseph, this was an outstanding piece of film making and story telling. Dare I say very "mooooving"? (that's a silly joke between jkw and me. ;) Brilliant!

From a purely technical point of view, it was near flawless. Loved the use of the shaded overlays. Gave the cells a nice dark, closed in atmosphere. Special effects were superb all round. Some of the sound effects could have been a little better, but I am really struggling to find fault... :)

I must say the voice performances were really outstanding. That made it all the more believable. Very important for a film like this that is heavy in important dialogue.

The story... that's an interesting one. I know you are trying to make a statement (or at least make us think) about the death sentence. But I found that the basic premise of this movie detracted a bit from the overall effect. A very important part of this story is a belief in the soul. Without that belief, your story kinda fails to achieve its goal (in my opinion). I know you mention early on that the soul is a definite ("I saw the videos in school" line), but when dealing with something so, um, religious and/or personal (for the want of a better word) that one line doesn't really do it for me (obviously this is my opinion again). And not accepting the soul as gospel (sorry, couldn't resist!) much of the film becomes, sadly, pointless.

(Just my two cents, as I think this is important. I've watched many films that expect the viewer to accept things as "true", regardless of your own beliefs. Take any fantasy film, for instance. They expect us to accept magic as real, or dragons and wizards. They often do that by quite literally showing those things as "real" - spells being cast, etc. I think if you had actually show that video footage via a flashback to his school life, I might more easily accepted the concept as "true" and "real" in the world of your movie. As I said, my two cents... and I want a receipt! lol)

I'll probably need to watch this film a few more times to get it to sink in. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm a bit "thick" when it comes to inner messages and meanings. I concentrate on the obvious and miss the subtle.

Nonetheless, this film is a masterful effort and should enjoy chart topping success! If nothing else, it made me write a long review... and those are few and far between. :)

That was truely superb. An enthrauling story of morals, values, control and authority. Beautifully presented and wonderfully written, Extinguished is one of those rare movies that taps into the human condition and leaves the viewer with a multitude of feelings, thoughts and emotions. Complimented with a perfect musical score by Norrie and a brilliant cast of VA's giving first class performances accross the board, Extinguished has it all.

cheers

I am always proud to be associated with Joseph and his work. Continuing to round out a catalogue of amazing and thought-provoking films, Joseph does it again here, weaving outstanding visuals, stellar VO performances, and a beautiful score into what is sure to be another chart-topper.

Surrounded by a cast like this one, I feel like the little guy!

Keep 'em coming, Joe. It's simple - nobody can touch you when you sit down to make a movie.

Meticulous, the camerawork and lighting together with overlays was superb, even taking the time to cut scenes just to control expressions, and the music was so well timed for respective scenes, the suspense was palpable. The voice acting was truly excellent, hats off to all the VA's. Very well done in all respects, great job Joseph & company!

A highly original concept with an age old morality tale. I really loved the set up with this. Great characters and a well thought out storyline make this a really solid film. Even with some minor cliches at play the film carries the viewer along in what is a unique story of punishment and justice in a rather cold future.

Outstanding VO's, each with personal dilemmas that have no clear answers. Nice work JKW. You really are one of the most talented storytellers around.

On a side note, your method of blending FX into a story is seamless and never hits us over the head, as it always fits right in. Thats a nice touch, as I had to go back and look just to be sure i didnt miss them, they really worked as part of the fabric of your film.

Well Joseph you again have produced anther masterpiece for TMO. A story, plot and characters far more deserving of this medium but alas I'm not going to harp on about that anymore.

I no longer visit TMO and have pretty much moved on even though I am still using the game. Your request alone is what made me watch and review this and that in itself shows how much I admire your work.

The biggest shame is this will NOT be seen by enough people and I wonder if this will ever get to 100 views on TMO. I'm sure that you will upload to other video hosting sites and more will see your art there.

Very well done in producing another TMO classic.

Simply a brilliant piece of work, This review probably can't do it justice.

A top quality production that is inspiring. It is a great piece of storytelling with excellent Voice acting from an excellent cast bringing the script to life.

I found this to be one of the most intriguing and emotional movies here on TMO, helped by the mods and special effects scattered across this production and the brilliant selection of music.

Excellent Work

I just say that your gift for story telling shines once more in this one, and makes together with the excellent vo's, camera work, fx and music a wonderful movie, a powerful movie which nobody who watches it will ever forget... an instant classic. Great, great work, Joseph!

Quite simply....Outstanding!!

This is perhaps the most invigorating and involving saga on TMO to date! Such powerful references and sublime storytelling to create a world, a universe that we can all relate to!

The quality of this film cannot be described, it really has to be experienced for yourself as JosephKW crafts an astonishing tale that you will NEVER forget!

Outstanding Acting on all fronts here as this marvelous cast provide one of the best performances of all time! This film is an instant classic and only proves something I've always known...

The finest souls are those that can do harm, but do not. A moving story of redemption, and justification and morality. A piece of art for sure. Not Passage 4, but good enough. Fabbo.
