Synopsis

Jake (sparky1512) has been trying to break it off with his girlfriend Vanessa for a long time. The problem? Vanessa is a 12th degree black belt and teaches karate at the local dojo.

Jake is fed up. Not only because he's sick and tired of being man-handled by his girlfriend, but also because everyone in town know's that she is the "man" of the relationship, and he is constantly teased, even by his G o o d [Good] buddy Vince (Kuroken).

After multiple failed attempts to break up with her, Jake has been driven to the edge of sanity. He wants to end the relationship in a way that won't cause a public spectacle, or put him in the hospital.

Okay, five stars for the t-shirts alone.

And you know, come to think of it, I sure could have used an AK-47 when I broke up with my last girlfriend... The brick was so messy.

And if any one wants to have a karate fight for the title of Trewill's biggest fan, I'm down to roll, mother[be polite!]ers. This kid is way ahead of his time and way bigger than TMO.

Film on, Trewill, my friend, film on - nobody does it better.

Working with Tre was a nightmare....the long night shoots in the rain, Tre's frequent temper tantrums (though admittedly Sparky got the worst of it...how many times did I hear "Sound more English! being yelled at him...), and of course, that ridiculous costume that came the first night, delivered by a shadowy, dwarfish figure...

But out of pain comes art...or if not art, at least one of the funniest comedies I've seen here in quite some time. It's superbly written, with a twist and a zinger at the end, the camera work and editing is excellent, and the acting...well, let's just say that Sparky is terrific, as always....

Tre continues to amaze as he continues his ascent to the top of the TMO directing pyramid.

Awesome! As soon as i read the script for 'The Break-Up Letter' i knew it was gonna be a great little flick - and with Tre behind the 'wheel' it couldn't miss. It has been said many times already so i won't dwell, but Tre did a fantastic job and the effects, editing, music etc. Quality is a good tradmark to have! I thought Ken did a fine job as Vince and i think i did ok too. Brilliantly written and executed, i'm proud to be a part of this movie. There should be more short, punchy little movieslike this - although the bar has now been set VERY high. Nice work my friend and i think well deserving of my Spark of Inspiration Award for movies rated above 5 stars. http://community.lionhead.com/forums/thread/2780718.aspx

To Sum this up would be 'Dark humour truly at it's best'

It was wonderfully written with some tongue in cheek moments and I must say technically you did a phenominal job. Great use of varying and appropriate sound-effects. From the changing perspectives of the sound of rain to the engine noises, you created an authentic sound which was a step above and showed your ability for attention to detail. I loved your personal intro and even your brief cameo appearance walking by the roadside! a sign of a director who is highly creative.

The story itself, while simple was very effective and highly enjoyable! Great Dialogue,Editting and Camera work all stood out in this 5 minute wonder.

This was certainly a valid and appreciated tidbit as we await your next masterpiece, but until then....

Nuke Well in the AK 47!!!!!

Hahaha... loved that, Tre! Sparky and Ken were great bantering along in that car, and the soundeffects were awesome.. even the sound of the rain changed depending on where the cam was! And I loved those t-shirts!!
Everything fitted, music, overlays..
So I just had to get this out of my system... and boy, am I glad that I'm not a karate girl! :)

LMao..very good. Loved the music...how did you talk Ken into saying "Did she slob on a random knob." you got balls.

Hmmm - I liked the banter, it was very well acted and funny. Good choice of shots for the arse-kicking snippets. Very well edited and a nice song too.

But the punchline didn't impress me - and, in a film that had really high production values, the backdrop going in the wrong direction when they were driving away was just criminal.

A borderline 3/4 - ok, 4 for the fine performances.

Ie! Great ending, well done throughout. Liked the mods you used to get the behavior in the car, and the overlays were nice & tasteful. Great double-take, I won't say more. The motorcycle is by Monkeybiz actually. Really liked the choice of music too.

That was very well made.
Didn't have me falling out of my chair laughing
but still an anusing flick none the less.
Hearing Ken use expletives definitely gave me a chuckle.
Great custom stuff & camera work. Well done.

A little scary...but genuinely funny.

Add black comedy to Tre's ever growing catalogue of TMO talents.

Now if we can just find him the right girl...

LMAO, that was hilarious. I laughed all the way throught the movie. Top notch VOs from Ken & Sparky, and amazing overlays. Thats one thing I notice alot in your movies, amazing looking overlays. Good music, and great editing.

Question: Were they driving in revers at the end? lol

Alright, this is something like a little snack between Act 1 and Act 2. And gosh, it really made me smile, no, it made me laugh. You really got me interested right from the start - just because of this wonderful beat and then those angles in the rain. Ah, trewill, this is a wonderful, little short flick - bad ending, but who wasn't surprised? 5 stars, all the way. And sparky was once more fabolous so as KuroKen.

This is a perfectly put together little story.Nice attention to details,I really like to see when someone goes through the extra effort of polishing every bit of detail to perfection.Nicely done.
I enjoyed the dialogue thoroughly, and the delivery was spot-on perfect.
I was surprised by the ending haha

The plot alone gives it five stars. It's clear a lot of effort was put into the voice overs too, clearly you have a brilliant piece of work on your hands here that shall excel.

Good dialogue and directing. Plus I have a soft spot for comedies that include a background narrative to the on-screen action. The twist got me, but I didn't read the reviews.

Most impressive work. The stylist free cam work really stood out, as the limited amount of actual scenes used never felt redundant. Good voiceacting and fun mods.

Dulcilicious!

'Then she kicked me in the kneecap!'

Seriously, can you really blame him for blasting away his girlfriend? Dislocated kneecaps are terrible!

Gotta say, I almost pooped myself twice while watching this movie. I just find dark humor hilarious. (10times better than lame good people humor) Awesome movie, awesome effects, awesome t-shirts, awesome bedroom, and awesome AK47 action.
This is one of the VERY FEW films I downloaded and bookmarked. Congrads on making a sexy movie.

A FREDTHEDUCK REVIEW

Plot: 19/20 - That ending was hilarious. I really did not see her getting shot in my mind, I LOVED that. Oh, and the kneecap bit was hilarious, too

Humour: 19/20 - it made me laugh, and thats all I need from a comedy.

VOs: 14/15 - Awesome from both sparky and ken, but I found one or two of kens lines to be a bit quiet. . .beh, who cares, they both gave great performances anyway.

Custom content: 9/10 - those t-shirts. . .LOL

Editing: 13/15 - great editing, it really was awesome. However, there may have been one or two scenes that were not as well edited, and could have been trimmed a little bit.

Music/sfx: 7/10 - you didnt really use much. . just the two tracks I noticed. Neither of them were brilliant, but both were good.

The wow factor: 8/10 - If anything, too short. Other than that, brilliant. Were the guys supposed to be going backwards when they finally started driving? Beh, who cares.

TOTAL: 89% (I think) - 5 star

I always wondered what Ken's hair looked like. Thanks!

OK, this film is 95% super cool. The production values are exceedingly high, from the opening sequence, the custom costumes, great music, superb dialogue, excellent voice work... I could go on. It's all great.

The story idea (as spelled out in the synopsis), I admit, had me thinking of a recent real movie about a Superhero girlfriend break up (I never saw it, so that didn't bother me). But I suspect this was very different to that movie... especially the ending.

That, sadly, was the most disappointing part for me. The ending was OK. It was unexpected. It just seemed a bit too comical/violent... and after such a great, clever, well directed build up, too.

Don't get me wrong, I still liked it. I guess I just expected something spectacular (to match the rest of the film).

Terrific work, nonetheless. Well done!

Odd, original and very funny! Great acting by Ken and Sparky! And the editing was brilliant because not much happened but you kept the eye entertained with clever cuts. The writing was top notch too, believable dialog that was full of droll humor. I loved it!

A funny concept done exceptionally well in this dark comedy. Ken & Sparky play their respective roles to perfection and bring the film to a whole new level. Great writing and direction. Good stuff.

I loved the film, especially the part where he shot gallons of blood out of him, even though I gave this 5 stars, I did have some comments. Okay only 1,
If he had dislocated his knee, he wouldn't be able to stand up for her the kick him 5 feet. But still, favourited!

Hilarious!

The jokes go by smooth as butter and lead up to a completely unexpected ending - it's both funny and shocking, a wonderfully modern piece of comedic awsomeness.

"So basically... your black-belt girlfriend kicked your ass."
"That is correct."
Priceless. That should go down in the dictionary of TMO quotes.

Five big thumbs up from Orky (Yes, five thumbs - I had to steal the other three). Keep on truckin', Tre - You're doing fabulous.

A very cleverly written short comedy. I loved it. Very funny.
I loved the dark humour in this and was laughing a lot! Very well done.
Ken and Sparky were excellent in their roles. Very good performances from both.
This was a very well done short.
The length was great. The mods, overlays and music were a very nice touch.
A short masterpiece, one of which i throughly enjoyed.
I also liked the ending, not what i expected, but enjoyable.
The ending credits were great too. I loved the intro with you making an appearance, especially later on in the movie! Great stuff dude!
Everything in this movie made it excellent, the music, overlays, etc.
Well done!
Looking forward to what you release next.
You always make movies of high standards.
Excellent work dude. Two thumbs and highly recommended.

Well well tre that was indeed black humor!
Black humor at it´s best!

Technically so well made, even through we saw only one scene the most time, it wasn`t boring to watch. The cam angles were chosen very well and shown a few times but not to long so you could discover new details even the third time the angle was shown. The screenplay was also very impressiv and keept my attention till the end(!!!)... the very surprising end. The only thing I dissliked was the drivers question as they drove away, it`s unrealistic that he could hide the thing, the driver asked for(trying to avoid spoilers ;) ).

Anyway, like I said at the top of my review dark humor at it`s best! =)

Nice tidy piece with clever banter between the two actors. Always nice to see Ken throw the 'K' word around. Just on a technical note, at the end, the back drop was going in the wrong direction.

Rarely do people pay enough attention to all aspects of filmmaking; only the dedicated few, and Tre is indeed one of those elite. The dialogue was well-written (as was to be expected), the music was well-chosen (again to be expected), and the camera work superb. What makes this a Tre film is the attention spent on sound, ambience and overall atmosphere. The rain pounding on the streets and metal car roof was perfect with the theme of the break-up letter. The heavy droplets slicing down both the forefront and background of the shots as the two friends reveal the background of the story and set the stage for the finale was simply beautiful. What a pro. I've gotta study this piece for more filmmaking secrets :) Oh, and nice animated overlays by the way.

Nice job on this tre, excellent dialogue both written and performed.
The music was very effective here, excellent voice tone and mood there. I would have liked to hear the last music cue end naturally rather than the abrupt fade out that it was subjected to.
I think that the car was going backwards near the end but that added a sureal element to it. :)

You are quickly becoming one of my favorite directors.

Haha! Totally unexpected. Well we all know that you can pull off supernatural westerns, but who knew comedy? You have a really knack for writing. You really created a simple, casual, conversation, wonderfully told by sparky and Ken who sounded like just two buds out on the town. Excellent job!
