Film Description
This is the first part of Law of the West. The second part can be seen here: Law of the West was intended as a single film, but technical difficulties rendered this effectively impossible. Sorry for the inconvenience.

That said, sorry for the delay in getting these up. I blame technology and its various bugs. The first time the complete film was uploaded, it had fallen victim to the infamous "Devil's Bookmark" synchronization bug, resulting in most of the movie sounding like that scene from Singin' in the Rain. "No, no, no!" "Yes, yes, yes!" Oh well. At least it's all fixed now, and finally, finally all done and released. First off: the summary:

A lone cowboy wandered into a small town. He came for a drink, and a place to stay the night. Instead, he found his past. Will he avenge his father's death, or will justice and right be defeated? Find out in Law of the West.

Cast: MefuneAkira........Charles Law
Jase180..................Sheriff Jim Topper
Cruise1970...............Harold Slade
SnakeEater42.............Jacob Law
GoofParade...............Deputy Paul Short
Drucifer67...............Elias Rucker

It's here! Finally! This Western of mine has been in the making for a very long time, and now it's finally finished. Whew! And now for: thanking people. Thanks a lot to everyone who helped me make this movie possible. Thanks especially to the excellent cast who were willing to do voice-oers for me. These people are about as good as it gets on TMO, folks.

Thanks as well to DarthDirector for helping me out with some of the dialogue (some other people were good enough to help me out with it as well, but I've lost their names, sorry). Also thanks to anyone who auditioned for a part, such as AnotherNewDawn, FlatEarth, and others.

Again, the second part can be found at: Thank you all for putting up with the various problems and delays, and I hope you enjoy the film!

That was quite a cast you had for this film! Some of TMO's greatest VO's are on hand for a classic western tale. I enjoyed the atmosphere and mood set in this piece. You have a knack of establishing each locale before the action commences--like the saloon, and the windy dust-blown desert at the end. That was a nice touch. I did feel the story to be a tad cliche with a theme of revenge of a slain father by a land-grabbing villain (though I hope to be surprised in part B). The voice-overs were pretty good on the whole, but the dying dad at the end didn't seem to sound like he was dying, and the villain had a lot of breathy pops in his dialogue from breathing and speaking into the microphone. Don't be afraid to ask your cast to redo some lines if needed to enhance and improve the film (that's what a director's for). Nitpicking aside you have shown you've a good eye for camera angles and the composition of the shots.

Here we have a western that doesn't really break the mold, but certainly does a good job of being "a western", if you know what I mean.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of sound effects, and that almost made me rate this 4 stars, rather than the 5 I am giving you. You did put in a few here and there, and for the most part they were adequate, although the fight scene could have done with some variety.

What was really good was the Voice Work. Each character was well executed by the various artists, and that made up for a lot of smaller faults. Dialogue was good, too.

The camera work was OK, but at the start the editing suffered a little from too many cuts. I'm guessing you had a lack of scenes to match the dialogue? (I've suffered from that myself!!) A small thing.

You made good use the in-game music. Even though I know the tracks all too well, they fit the scenes well here.

Overall: a good western. I think you chose a good place to cut it in half. Quite dramatic. (Got you that extra "nudge" from 4 to 5... :)

A great opener to a fun western!

I feel like a jerk for not reviewing this earlier, but our production....well who cares the reason. lol

THE GOOD: Fun dialog in a western setting is the true enjoyment of this movie. Great cinematography, crisp editing and face paced story flow is what make this film a MUST SEE!

THE BAD: Lack of background sound and dialog recording polishing is the only flaws I can notice.

Overall, an excellent western with the classic revenge plot. Darth is a true artist!

Good acting and story. It was mainly in the pacing and sound design that this film needed improvement.

A fraction of a second needed to be shaved from one character saying a line and the other responding. Otherwise it just doesn't sound natural.

eg. CHARACTER 1: "You'll never guess what I saw today ..."
CHARACTER 2: "What?"
CHARACTER 1: "A pig in a washing machine!"

If the same lines had been uttered in this film, there would have been a couple of second's gap between each statement and the timing would be ruined. Try to have a vision of how the conversation should go - if an actor does it the wrong way (according to your vision), send their line back and tell them to redo it in a manner that fits the pace of the conversation.

Sound design wasn't the best - that must be the quietest bar brawl I've ever seen.

You are trying to transport us to the old West - the sounds are essential in selling that idea, even more so than the visuals. There were no ambient sound effects in the beginning of the film. You can fade out ambient sound later on - but it is absolutely essential in the scene-setting beginning of a film. No horses neighing, no hoofs clooping, no general chatter in the saloon .. as a result the town seemed lifeless. Sound design is very important, but it was largely ignored here.

Having said that, good performances by the cast and, as I said, a good story.

A solid part 1 to a great Western tale. Well scripted and well thoughtout, Law of the West is a must see for Western fans and Movie fans alike. The move moves along at a good pace and there is no problem with holding the attention of the audience. The flash back in time works really nicely and clues us in to what is happening 'present day'.
Music was a little uninspired but fitted the on screen action well non-the-less. Vo's were excellent for the most part exept for many annoying pops from Harold Slade.
Editing was tight and feecam was well used.
Overall a very enjoyable movie and i look forward to seeing the second half.

Script: 4 stars; The lines are very good and well carried out. The plot isn't very original in itself, but your idea of this commonly used "west revenge" was well twisted.

Editing: 5 stars; Flawless for the majority of this first part, although the flashback part had one scene that was a bit off time. Very good for the scene selection and cutting.

Music & SFX: 2 stars; This firs part was really killed by music and lack of good sound effects. Although the opening was good, there were too many scenes with no sound at all. A couple of suggestions here. When Charles enters the saloon, you should have faded in the piano sound. Then you should have put some opening doors sound when Slade enters, so to give an acoustic clue why the deputy stops talking. Also, you should have put some music in the bar brawl (or brall? sorry for my English), unless you wanted it musicless, but then you should have worked more on SFX.

Overall a nice first part, but nothing really special. More on part B.

What was good:
Story was great!
VA's did awesome!
Freecam was da bomb!
Editing was SUPER solid!
Music selections were spot on!
Everything was great!

What was bad:
Music - the only bad part was the lack of music during the bar fight. It felt abit awkward.

WOW!!! The waiting payed off. That was great. Off to watch part B, and hopefully it won't be bad.

Wow, just wow! This has certainly raised the bar for me in my movie making! I don't have stunts and effects yet but i am enjoying making movies just using the original game!

The voice acting was superb and scene selection/action prettyu much flawless. It is obvious you spent a long time preparing this film and it pays off. Congratulations on a brilliant release. I look forward to more releases from your studio in the future :)

Great funny, action and sad movie. It also was made perfectly with every scene of the movie. The start of the movie was not bad at all. It will be more better if it had subtitles so people can understand more. If you like wach my movies including "Man Vs Monster" and "Man Vs Monster 2". Or and this is the last thing I am going to say in this brief review........
The whole movie was good with the actors. Thay all suited all the people in the movie especially the clothes in the movie, at the music, set and light was perfect, good movie and I cant wait to see the second part!
