I have to thank Ken (Kuroken) for exporting and uploading the movie online. Without him, I wouldn't have been able to get the film out for everyone to see and I wouldn't have been able to show everyone what I've been working on for the last 6 months. Thank you so very much, Ken.

Oh yes, I would like to correct some things:

Regarding a lighting continuity near the middle of the movie, I set the lighting on dark and for some reason it kept glitching and filming on light. Couldn't fix it.

Also, I would like to correct one of the ending title cards. I quote something being from the New York Times, when it is actually from The Times in London. For some reason I thought it said New York Times when it really said The Times from London. My bad and I should've checked back over it before I went into Post Production.

This director continues to shine and continues to improve in his creation. This will be the film that moves you out of your small studio status definitively.

A very good film which covers a significant subject matter which focuses on one specific family and the lives that are affected, similar to James Beckerson's -silent movie, "Prelude To", released on TMO in June 2006. This type of film is much more dramatic when we have vo's which gives the characters life and depth.

We are thrown into that day and follow their harried attempts to escape the rising insanity. The characters are real and the situation they are placed into harrowing. The voice actors did an excellent job.

The cinematography is very well done and the move from the city to the country is done nicely. The soundtrack and scoring is a main part of this production which carries it through to its completion.

A solid production done with high quality in all areas. Well done and congratulations on this accomplishment.

Exceptional.

Eschewing the failings of many historical films that try to chronicle large historical events in epical, word-for-word verisimilitude at the expense of good storytelling and characterization, sgporsche??s Kristallnacht zeroes in onto a single thread in history and weaves it into a whole. Thus, the whole of the Holocaust ?? the sorrow, the deaths, the senselessness ?? becomes compressed within a single vignette that echoes with a thousand human voices ?? a feat accomplished by, paradoxically, only focusing on a few individuals trying to survive these dire circumstances. The narrowness of focus winds up being one of the film??s chief assets, as it is able to provide a powerhouse punch of emotion despite its short running time and lack of historical name-dropping.

As a whole, I found the film to be well constructed and at times emotionally thrilling without being exhausting. EmeraldEdge??s score captures the sharp melancholia of the Holocaust and truly underscores the haunting tragedy of the events; his near-minimalist score haunts the viewer like the ghosts of our pasts. The actors all do an admirable job of bringing this material to life, and make us care for these characters. I am proud to have been a part of this cast and this project.

In the end, it is the pure cinematic muscle exhibited by sgporsche that makes this movie a sure-fire success. Mixing intimate human moments, manic confusion, raw violence, and poetic cinematography (the final shot is especially haunting and strangely heartbreaking), Kristallnacht realizes the potential sgporsche has always demonstrated, ushering him quite quickly from the realms of interesting newcomer into the list of exceptional filmmakers. That, in itself, makes the movie something of a revelation.

Bravo.

A brilliantly moving film of a tragic night in human history. So well done that it stays in the mind long after the initial viewing. Great work by all involved. Simply wonderful.

Having seen this movie probably more times than anyone but sg and EmeraldEdge, I have to say....

Bravo, Mr. Porsche - it's very well written, and more importantly sensitively written - as it had to be. You got some terrific performances from your cast and EmeraldEdge's score is appropriate and moving, without being maudlin. But it's the ideas and attention to detail that make this the film it is.

Great work - it was a long time coming, but it's finally here, and you should be rightfully proud of it.

That is a great and important movie overall. I'm from Germany and I've a huge interest in history, especially in holocaust. Because of that I've got to mention a few things:
There also a lot of Jews which were also nationalists, so the line where you used the word the "germans" for the "Nazi-Mob" was a bit incorrect.
The Mob seems to be a bit faceless... in fact it was often lead by some SS-men... I think that would have been also good for the Movie when you focused a bit more on that.
At all you treated that subject with a lot of respect for the victims, very well done.
I'm personally thinking about making a movie about what motives made the germans to join the nazi-mob. But I understand that you wanted to stay focused on the victims.
The Editing was great, I loved those slow cameramovements.
The music was phenomenal! Very sad and it always fit to the scene. The voice actors are also great.
I'm sorry for my bad english and I hope you undderstood most of my review ;)

Excellent glimpse into humanity's darkest hour. Rarely can we venture into history through "The Movies" and yet you've taken us there as any fantasy would to the past and Sci-Fi to the future, and yet these horrors were reality. A strange though, a good film.

Good eye for direction. Bold stride. Sense of purpose and overal quality of work. I hope this isn't a dramatic representation of either yourself or some one you know. If so, I appologize but I'm in the buisness of making movies. There needs to be something original about this film; There is a strong hold on this particular genre, a puzzle I've been trying to solve. Rest assured I have the key. My ancestors found Germany with the help of the Visigoths and those still loyal to Ceasar. I do like the theme, labeling and mob mentallity. Be vigiliant in your directing ability, strive to be controversial. Stay Tuned.

This film offers viewers a terrific cast that, in my opinion, makes this feature a wonderful film. The story may seem too short and simple to some that might not be aware of the history that goes along with this tale. This movie is only a very small glimps into the past of almost 70 years ago. Some might think this could never happen to me, not here, not now but those who do not remember history it is said, repeat it. EXCELLENT FILM! BRAVO TO THE CAST!

Rated: PG-13
Violence
Graded: A+
COMMENT: Outstanding!! I loved it from the beginning. I know a lot about world war 2 but I never knew this was a true story. Was it based on real people? Well anyway amazing throughtout and I am totally going to bookmark this film. This needs to be watched from every single TMO community member. AMAZING!!! I was crying at the end. Also great VOs. Talented, talented, talented. I loved it. Nice job. This is rated PG-13 for violence and it's graded an A+! Fanastic, outstanding, AMAZING, Magnificient, outrageous, heroic job. I loved it as you can see. I will show lots of my friends and relatives this movie. Amazing.

This is a great example of what time and detication can produce. The story was original, but yet it held some fact in that it took place within the chaos of the 30s. A tragic tale indeed about this family (and others) who did nothing wrong. Great job with this movie!

Exceptionally well made. The cinematography was top rate with some really great shots, I also liked the soundeffects the riot/mobs was one of my favourites, it really felt like it was happening. The Soundtrack and the VO's were great bringing life into the story, applause to EmeraldEdge and the Voice Actors.
And the quotation and statistics overlays were a nice touch, that said any movie dealing with this kind of event would have something similar.

A night that should be remembered and I hope we do not make it again.
Which reminds me of this quote:

"The only thing we learn from history, is that we never learn anything else from history"

Let's hope its wrong...

What happened in Europe that time is mind boggling. More than half a century later, it is a screaming testimony of what we human race is capable of. I felt you chose and treated the material very well. I also feel that the long brutal nightmarish hours you depicted here is a very good metonymy for what happened to Jewish people. I loved the music as well. Did EmeraldEdge scored and performed (I guess electronically) all these pieces? I am no expert in Jewish music but these violin tunes felt genuinely Jewish to me and very effective. You have a successful movie here. Keep up the good work.

The Good:
A (Mostly) good cast helped this movie get through some of it's rougher stages. I must say, I was expecting something entirely different, but it was a nice surprise none the less. The editing and camera work was well chosen and the music was appropriate (if not oddly synthetic?).

The Bad:
One of the minor VA's acting skills fell horribly short of greatness, and that was a bit of a detterent to the rest of the film as it damaged the believeableness of it, for me anyway. The film dragged a bit, but, being prone to the "Drag-monster" myself I know it's easy for a TMO movie to go from script to film with lots of unexpected attacks from the Drag-monster.

4.5 stars, rounded up :).

Groundbreakingly breathtaking!

Surely your best work to date SG. Your knowledge of film has no doubt shaped you into the exceptional filmmaker you have become. EmeraldEdge did a wonderful job on the score. The story was quite moving and true to history. I especially like how you dedicated the film to all those who perished during the Holocaust. Your actors and actresses were outstanding, as they delivered their lines both clearly and emotionally. One of the finest films I have seen in quite a while. I am more than proud to give you your well deserved 5 star rating.

A pretty good film. I did rather enjoy it. I found it very compelling that this film was based on historical events and I do understand it very much.... of the Holocaust, etc. Reason being I remember a lot about it, for example: True stories I heard about it from survivors and so on. However, I did feel that the film was a bit slow in some parts and it seemed too short to me. Despite this, I really did love the way how you showed your little take on this, about the Holo-caust. I felt that you did an incredible job with it, but it's only a bit short off from being a 5 star movie in my books. It was very well written, your cast was amazing! A lot of excellent performances, not to mention Killer actress, PMC, Mustachio26 and a lot more!!! The score by EmeraldEdge was really epic, he did an incredible job. Well done EmeraldEdge. The score for the film was beautiful and really gave a good sense of what it was all about.
The editing was very good, exceptional infact. Now, the downside.
This is a very good film, but not perfect in my opinion. This is because I got very distracted by quite a lot of scenes that showed someone being beaten up as there were no sound-effects, just music going over it. I found that a bit strange. I thought there would of been some additional sound-effects in the film, but i was sort of wrong in some cases. That was a bit dissapointing I felt. As I mentioned earlier, i felt it was quite slow. It wasn't a film where I watch it and it's so slow that it is completly cringe-worthy to watch or anything like that. It was just that I felt the film didn't really pick up until about 5/6 minutes in.
Another problem i had with the film, only a small one... was that i felt it could of gone on a bit longer. Alas, i loved the titles at the end where it explained to us what happenned next to the characters shown in the film.
I can tell you put a lot of effort into the film. It can be clearly seen by the amazing cast or should a star studded cast, an incredible score, a very good story, professional editing, amazing costumes, the amazing camera-work and lots more.... that I can't think of at this moment! Like I said earlier, it was a very good film and I did rather enjoy it, but I found a few flaws in it that decreased the amount of enjoyment I thought I would of gotten out of the film. The few flaws didn't really effect the movie and they didn't really destroy the movie.
On the plus side, it was a very good film, only just short of a masterpiece.
Well done. Very good work.
Overall: 7/10
All in all, a delight of the movie to watch! Very enjoyable, but it does have a few flaws that I mentioned which did make it a bit distracting in some parts. You did do an incredible job with this film.
Congrats SG on this very good film, but it's only just short of being a masterpiece for me.

An intricate story very delicately told. I found myself sucked into the time and scene of this story with the variations and dynamics in each character to their present situation.

I thought you did a fabulous job casting as the were all individual and unique, yet they collectively managed to fuse the brilliant writing well together. The score by EE was amazing and really set the tone of the entire film. Another thing I was impressed with was your use of SFX, while most of the time I prefer to see a movie with lavish sfx, in this film, less meant more as the whole tone of the movie required something less extravagant and you managed to pull it off with the great writing. Having said that, one part of SFX I thought you used well was the angry crowd. It magnified the whole setting so well and added another dimension to the film!

Overall it was a very well made movie, that flew by with some good editting, I wish it was longer to be honest as I love my 15+ min movies, but with the story and setting, it still played out well as a shorter movie.

Keep it up and Nuke Well in Kristallnact!!

Well, first off I must applaud you for reminding everyone about an event in time that should never, ever, be forgotten. The situation the characters find themselves in would be horrific enough if it was a work of fiction, but because this actually happened, makes it sad, tragic, and appalling as well. You did an exceptional job tackling such an emotional and controversial subject, without resorting to tried clichés and stereotypes. Having the story personalized to just a small group of friends was definitely the way to go.

However, I must admit that I was actually let down by the presentation of this film. I just didn??t ??feel?? for any of the characters in the film. It??s not that I didn??t feel for their situation, as that was one of the darkest nights in recent history, but I was emotionless for the characters in the film. I wanted to see more interaction between the husband and wife; more fear and shock towards the situation they were awaken to, more sense of urgency on the part of all the neighbors. I just felt like I was watching a group of people running from point A to point B.

Technically, there were a few flaws. A few times it was difficult to figure out what character was talking, maybe individual medium close-in shots would have helped. One overlay just prior to the riots went by so fast I had to pause the movie to read it. Not once but twice did a character refer to the attacking hordes as Germans. Some camera angles were a bit off as well (too much head room, cutting off the head of the wife as she descended the stairs, etc). I did like the angles used in the beating scenes because it really wasn??t necessary to show the attackers and it really added to the ??faceless horror?? they were experiencing that night. The last shot was also extremely memorable. Well done there.

Some of the voice acting was just wonderful and some not very convincing. I never got the sense of the fear and confusion these people were experiencing. They just seemed too calm for what was occurring.

As for the music, it was simply beautiful. EmeraldEdge did a fantastic job. His score places the viewer in such an emotional state that it makes it difficult to recover. I watched the move three times, the third time I had to turn off the sound so I wouldn??t be distracted by his haunting music. It really raises this picture up more than a few notches. Powerful stuff!

Overall, you have a really good film here that you can be very proud of. I??m glad you were able to overcome some obstacles and finally get this out to the TMO audience. I??m sure it will be a huge success. Thanks for reminding us that ??Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.??

Cheers!

The Archaic Awards
Review

Story: 10/10 A very powerful story. While it moved a bit fast sometimes, it was brought before us in such a passionate manner and it was so powerful that it really made me think. You obviously did some research which is good.

Music: 5/5 Music was very good. Emerald Edge did a wonderful job of composing just the right soundtrack to fit this film.

VO/Subs: 9/10 Subtitles were very good. Voiceovers were great too. Some of the actors did better than others. TidyChick and Postmodernchuck stood out in my mind as two great selections for leaders of this film.

Script: 5/5 A very well written script. Plently of places with the right emotions for the scene.

Extras: 5/5 Freecam was interestingly used at times. Not really any mods except for a cool SS costume, but some good custom overlays.

Editing: 12/15 Editing was fine, however I felt the film moved a bit fast. While the story and the visuals were powerful, the surprise attack scene seemed to be used to death and the story didn't transition as well as it could have. You had some great material to work with and it truely would have been better if the transitions were a bit tighter. Overall though a fantastic flick that was well worth the 6 month wait.

Final Score: 47/50

A very nice piece that serves as a reminder of one of the most important events we should never forget in the 20th century. The film is well written, has a nice overall flow, some quality production work (custom titles and credits), and a fantastic original score.

It does have its share of minor flaws... A few voices had a bit of background noise, or were slightly off in terms of volume. Editing in some sparse places was a touch sketchy - some awkward cuts and camera angles, and one or two conversation scenes where it felt like the characters' lines didn't quite play off one another as well as they could.

So, a low 5 stars from me. Good work all around, and be sure to share the praise you'll continue to receive with EmeraldEdge -- his score sets the mood for this film beautifully.

An almost rounded cast makes an interesting film about the horrible night in Germany the more better, although it's not the nicest subject to work on, the film gets round the issue by going from a couple's point of view, rather than a mixed up scomplete look at it, and their escape to the border.

The script is pretty good, albeit a little too fast paced for the tone, and some times it feels that just for the audiences benfit the characters go round and explain the issues a little too much, in the end it's a well crafted, technically and aesthetically well done movie.

Bravo.

I thought the vo's were one of the highlights here. I like the history lesson at the end, I allways like to read stuff like that.

I would have enjoyed more graphic violence in a movie like this, but thats just my taste and it didnt take away from the story at all, just would have felt more realistic.

One of the femails vo's i didn't find too convincing and some vo's where hard to her, i didn't find that it lived up to the hype, i was ecspecting a bit more brutal film being that it was in the time of the war but it was a good shot at this type film. the score was also good. I would have put this in action being though theres no drama.

Great job.

It's very depressing nowadays that you hardly ever hear about the terrible hardships these people had to go through unless you visit a memorial or the holocaust museum. It's hardly ever mentioned in this world's modern day society because it's been suppressed in our minds; But it will never be forgotten.
This film throws the viewer into the mayhem that they had to experience. It made me stop, think, and wonder what they had all done to deserve that treatment. Nothing. They did nothing wrong at all.
It is not very often that you see an informative film like this on TMO; especially one that's this good. You kept me excited from beginning to end. In fact, the entire film was excitement. Although shorter than what I had originally expected, it got the point across and was very enjoyable.
I think the music was phenomenal. Emerald_Edge did a fantastic job. I knew he could VA (and unfortunately I don't believe he was in this film) but I did not know he could make music like this. Amazing. He really helped bring out your film to the max it could be.
Like I said earlier, I was pleased with the way you made this. You have been working on this for countless months SG, and I think only a few people know (me and Ken are a given) the true experiences you had to go through to make this. Like I said to you online, I'm proud of ya'. You did well. Determination is what I saw from you the most. You were determined to get this piece out, and although your computer threw crap at you left and right, you stuck to the original plan (even if it meant editing three times).
Good job SG. I hope you make another film soon.

A five star rating well earned.

A brilliantly moving film of a tragic night in human history. So well done that it stays in the mind long after the initial viewing. Great work by all involved. Simply wonderful.

6 months of work eh? pretty impressive, the way I see it, you hit every beat in editing, timed each scene to perfection and set a tone for each scene by using a custom mix of sound effects and music. I really enjoyed your collected voice overs and transparent overlays. Look forward to your future works!

6 months of work have created one of the best movies i have reviewed on TMO overall. Even with the game's limitations this is an amazingly well done film. great freecam work and a cool musical score. overall good job. also please take a look at some of my movies their pretty good too

6 Months of work, eh? I found the film good overall. Few TMO directors make films like these, and I commend you for that. It's a night worth remembering ofcourse. Considering the limitations of the game, I give you credit for what you have created. But 6 months of work? I was expecting double the length. The last 2 minutes were credits. The VO's were great on the other hand as well as the main role. Good sounds as well, especially the riot sounds. I guess that it wasn't hyped so much, I was looking for a much bigger film. Some good camera work. I usually never review films like these 4 stars but I felt I had to. Great musical score I might add. Good job there.

Overall, I guess my expectations were too high.

I loved Ingrid lol. No but this was certainly a great great movie that works on so many levels. I have to admit that the film was a bit to fast paced for me to really get emotional involved with the characters which is vital in a story of this sort. But nonetheless an excellent little story about people that step up and become heroes in darker times. The whole cast delivered with perfetion and your direction was top notch. Awesome sum up

This is a great movie about one of the darkest hours in history we should never forget. You've done a excellent job to tell the story through the eyes of David and Deborah without being sensational. Your cast did also a brilliant performance and the soundtrack was well picked for this movie. Everybody should see this movie because such things should never happened again. I thank you for this movie and you've got my standing ovations for this masterpiece.

Having already seen this movie I wasn't surprised with its quality. It's always been great. The story excellently pays homage to those who survived (or not) through this tragic begining to what I think may be the biggest senseless massacre in human history. THe only problem i had was that I wish it was longer.

Well, you first showed me the film a few months back, right around the time when all your problems were occuring. When you showed me this, I thought it was alright, and it was somewhat flawed. But now that I have seen this final version, I believe this is hands down the best Pre-Halocaust/Halocaust film on TMO. The script is what is really great; the way the characters are written, and the amount of research that was done for this film. The only thing bad about the script is that I think you could of added more to it, but from what you wrote, it was excellent. The voice acting was great. The score was also very good. The direction I thought was one of the best things; the cinematography in a few of those shots was really good, but some of the shots were a bit confusing, such as some in the bar scene. All in all, this is a very good film, one of the best I've seen lately, and you can tell you have worked very hard on this film. Great work.

Great work SG, the acting first off was very good, and all the sound levels and such were all even and clear making it easy to listen to without having to change the volume constantly. the music was great, Emerald has some nice talent, it really set the mood and brought the story to life. The script was also great, although I do feel you couldhave made it a bit longer, but I think thats mainly because it took 6 months so I was expecting something longer, but non the less, for what it was it was well portrayed, my only other issue was that you could have maybe used some good set dressing on those scenes on the Rural Field Set.

A top notch job though all around from everyone, the film had a great mood that I think everyone could come to enjoy. Can't wait for the next 6 months to pass for your next movie, lol.

I know you've put a lot of time into this production. It certainly shows in many aspects. Pacing was good, helped immensely by EmeraldEdge's great music (remind me to steal him for my next movie! "Ya hear that, Emerald!?!" ;) ) Voice work was all good, great or better. If there was a bad part of this film, it was the brevity of the story. I think I expected a bit more to it. But what there was of it was good, and particularly well told. Another small note (and I could be totally wrong), but it seemed strange to hear the Jewish family refer to the others as "Germans". Surely they would have thought of themselves as Germans, too? But as I said, I might be wrong...

And for future reference: you can alter textures, overlays, backdrops etc even during PP (I do it all the time). So you could have fixed up that "New York Times" mistake...

Anyway, on a personal note: my 3 overlays looked good. ;) And my wife sounded great! lol

Well done, sgp. Well done.

(Oh, and I loved the crowd sounds... added a nice air to the film.)

Well, SG, let's see what 6 months in the making delivers.

I must say that the film was thoroughly researched and the script well written for that era and very well carried out by the actors... You had an all-star cast and you utilized them well.
The best thing about the film was that it was historically accurate with the shooting of Vom Rath and all, but people with no knowledge of antisemitism in Nazi Germany would still be scratching the surface for information, even after watching this. One scene that indicated your research however, was when a citizen was helping a Nazi soldier beat up a Jewish civilian, because random German citizens were helping in the brutal beatings too. Also, I think you could've mentioned small little details for example, that they were SA Nazi Stormtroopers that were raiding the Jewish towns instead of just "Nazi's", I believe that would've added more of an educational value to the film, but overall it was well researched and the script was well executed. You managed to capture the claustrophobic horror well, by following the lives of a few individuals in a burning and panicking town.
I also loved the way you included Hitlers "secret" deployment message against the Jews near the beginning, but it was actually Hitler that said "such demonstrations should not be hampered" etc in a meeting... and not that random Nazi guy, correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm really glad you added that.

I thought the last shot with the free-cam panning upwards was magnificent, accompanied by that beautiful score, one of the best scores I've heard in a very long time. It was so fitting for that period, and very haunting, it was perfect for a movie like this.
However, at times one character was moving when another was talking, and this happened in the bar. I was thinking of letting it slide, but because you did it right in other places, I thought I may as well remind you that you have to keep the talking in line. When one actor talks, he moves, not another. You did this right in many shots, but in the bar it felt a little sloppy. What I usually do is just duplicate a whole bunch of scenes with the various characters talking so that I don't run out, because I have a feeling that you did, but the scenes were well chosen and flowed pretty well for the most part.
Also, the scene in the bar where Wilek is with the people, they come through the door, yet the camera is zoomed up on the toilet... that confused me.
overall, I felt that you could've used the free-cam a bit more, but that beautiful final shot made up for it, and also when you did use it, I really liked the pacing of it. It fit well with the film too.
A good ending too, because no-one would've gone out alive.

Overall, I thought this was an excellent film that sent us back in time to Kristallnacht, and the only one of it's kind on TMO that will be difficult to outdo. With a stellar cast, a solid script and some beautiful music from Emerald, you did a brilliant job and the 6 months of hard work I think paid off pretty well, but the editing was a let down in some places.

Great work!

Over six months in the making, SGporsche's beautiful masterpiece, "Kristallnacht" comes to life with his excellent direction and powerful narrative. The film is raw, inspiring, and heartbreaking as it chironcles one of the worst events in world history. Through amazing camerawork and support from his wonderful voice talents, the film is amazing to every degree imaginable.

I really think this is a great movie! The Va´s did a great job(great skript indeed), the music fitted perfectly and the theme you chose is very critical, but you worked with the right respect on it. Also I think we should all be remembered from time to time about such horrible events!
That´s the reason why I give you 5 stars, even if you could have worked out the story a bit better with more details.

But all in all it is a great movie, a masterpiece that will remind us of a horrible event in history that hopfully will never happen again!
