Excellent film. Great VO's, including a realistic German accent for the German Officer. Loved the fact that he doesn't change despite what is shown to him. Kudos!

Different. But a little too wierd.
Not much of it made sense. Why would you make this movie when at the end, nothing changes? Just didn't make it worthwhile to watch.
Nice score. That was upside.
The acting was ok.
Not much to really get worked up about.
Sorry, not good enough.

four stars for the first 7 minutes, and a bonus star for the ending, which made the film. Who's to say you wouldn't make the same choice as Bernie, that cold-hearted [naughty word!]! If I was operating the elevator, he'd be going UP, but I'm not sure that's what happened. Nice to see a great movie without any explosions.

An entertaining film, it reminded me a bit of Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" except from beyond the grave!

Quite interesting to see the choice the main character makes at the end (lol - imagine Scrooge without the repentance!). Knowing that Bob has confirmed that there is indeed a heaven and a hell, I'm surprised at the choice he makes and the rather blase "que sera" way he does that.

Technically: good music, acting was a little bit rushed in many places by both characters. Some of the sentences came out a bit garbled and yet without much energy (which is strange). I didn't really get any sense that our hero cared whether he went to heaven or hell. I don't know about you, but I would be bricking myself if I found out that heaven and hell were real! I'd be very happy and relieved to get a second chance.

Still, apart from that and some minor continuity errors in the stage directions, it was an entertaining excursion into the afterlife. I'm tempted to scrape it a 5, but ... "bah, humbug!"

GREAT ENDER!
Here's the problem, it lacks emotion.
The way RB shrugs it off is not entertaining.
The story was great, the plot flawless, but maybe someone should have flipped out or something more interesting.

Yikes! A rare 5 from me. I have to be honest and say I wanted to give a 4 and three quarters, but I sat back after watching this and thought "what a delight", and that tipped the scales.

An intelligent and beautifully made film. The characters shone in this flick, from the witty, savvy messenger to the recalcitrant pessimistic victim - even the victim's victim was very well done.

I try hard to restrain my 5 star impulses - there's a lot of mediocrity out their posing behind wildly overbloated ratings. But look at the craftsmanship in this film:- Real care and technique has created a seamless product that would not be out of place on the airwaves. The viewer could be forgiven for taking this movie for granted, and that is the real magic here. You take the quality of script, acting and storyline for granted. A lovely understated subtlety pervades this flick and nothing gets in the way of its simple premise.

I too wanna know which way the "hero" ended up going.

Oh God...it's Octopussy!

I feel a bit bad giving a good rating to a story that borrows almost completely from Oh God! the movie, and the original 007 short story "Octopussy" (the movie "Octopussy" had nothing in common with the original story, other than being about James Bond). The only difference between this movie and the original story is that Bond is replaced by God, and a deadly obsession with a poisonous octopus is replaced by a neurotic thing about cigarettes.

That aside, I thought the film was well made and enjoyable to watch.

A searing mix of Bergmanesque ruminations and deviously clever tête-à-tête, A Split Second successfully molds its entire world through the poetic blending of philosophical insight and correlating image, forgoing simplistic plot elements in favor of something more poignantly complex. The characters were devilishly well drawn, with wise guy interloper Bob played to comic perfection by Ken against the straight guy dullard played by Roger. Naturally, these characterizations provide the lifeblood of this movie, and propel its overarching philosophical argument to near cosmic levels of confusion and horror. If we didn??t care about the characters, the movie??s message(s) wouldn??t hit us as hard. That the film documents humanity??s botched attempt at changing our collective pasts seems rather telling in the movie??s darkly comic, pessimistic tone, where human failure fringes every action; to accept Bob??s second chance represents only a pyrrhic victory, a catch-22, a devious little trick employed to ensnare individuals into the false hope that our actions matter. But absolute futility seems to cut into that free will argument, and the split second offer does nothing more than tease us with the empty possibilities. It doesn??t matter whether the trigger is pulled; the mistake still lingers forever afterward, and a sense of fatalism hangs over the proceedings. When watching A Split Second, I am reminded of the Myth of Sisyphus, instructing us that man is forever forced to toil and struggle endlessly in a world without rest or respite??leading, ultimately, to the existential crisis of Camusesque proportions.

To say this movie is thought provoking is an understatement. Ken??s movie, I feel, will stay with me for a long time yet. That, in itself, is a testament to the movie??s quality.

Fantastic.

A very enjoyable film Ken! I loved it. Very enjoyable throughout.
I've watched one of the runner up films and i have to say that I prefered yours.
The one i just watched was very good, but i liked the way that your entry really was artistic and had a good little bit of backstory. The story was a bit simple, but really well told and executed very well!
I felt you added more in the scene where Roger's character shot Fodoog's character than the previous entry i just watched and just a bit more, like with the artistic side to it. I admit the other entry I just saw, Rysto's entry was very professional and excellent, but i really liked the way that your film really looked into why Roger's character wanted to killed that guy or not.
Both entries are a delight to watch! I love them both, but i prefer yours a tincy bit more.
It was a bit longer than the other entry, but i loved the way that your character really was Roger's guide as he was dead... as we found out in the opening scene. I also found it very clever of you to have that one vo of Fodoog saying "Hey english, got a smoke? I loved that as it had a great effect with the echo and i then realised later on in the film where that part flash-back was from. I also really liked the dialogue. It was a very well written script.
A lot of great lines and moments. The cast was inpecable, Roger was excellent, you were too Ken!!! Along with Alex2112, Fodoog and the rest!!!
An A-list cast that really brought this film alive!!!! You all worked your socks off i have to say considering your very believable acting shown in this film!!!!
It's really hard to say which entry was the better one in a sense as they were both so professional, but i prefer yours as it's more artistic with the camera-work.
Overall: 10/10
A well deserved winner of this competition! Ken's back at it again by making a very cool short movie that has a great plot and many enjoyable moments!!!
Can't wait to see more from this very promising studio. You always release something very enjoyable to watch. Well done once again.
I also loved the way your sound-effects were so spot on!!! They made the film more enjoyable! In fact, all the work in the film was spot on! The cast, the camera-work, the editing, etc.
Great work all around. Editing was pro, everything was!!!
Overall Grade= A*

Well Ken, I can??t remember if I have watched any of your movies before but this was rather good. Excellently written script, idea for "The Movies" and just right for what can be done with the game.

Up there with some of the best written and really for this type of thing, spot on. No need for clever modding, or overlay animation, costumes, space battles...well you get my point.

Wow...late review. :p

Anyway, I think this movie had some slick editing. Some impressive camera work. And some overall good direction. The story is one set to make you think about your split second actions, ones taken with hardly any thought. Fortunetly for one man he is given a second chance to fix one of his earlier "mistakes" and live a seemingly happier life than before. But would he truly be happier? Of course it was revealed that it would be more comfortable, but happiness was never promised.

But I'm not here to give out spoliers now, so I'll end with this: This was a fantastic film, and I can truly understand now why it won the Fable competition. Great work, Ken.

Really, really nice movie. But I was wondering, the competition is about taking different paths, right? I saw that the guy that wasn't dead (the smiley one) taking a decision on shooting the officer or not, but, what I didn't get was why does the white haired guy was there, anyway? I mean, I watched the movie, but I only think he was there, maybe, so the smiley guy doesn't just tell his story for the watchers?

Anyway, great movie.

What a pleasant surprise this film turned out to be. Ken's voice over was absolutely spot on and matched his well designed face most perfectly.

I guess it's simplicity was the best thing about it for me; the well written script, well played and well paced...kept short enough to keep the viewer
interested, a very effective combo.

First thing I thought the wizard of oz quote was a bit corney. "Bob" was creepy, in some weird way also kinda good. Good story line, almost could have had more to it but just as good as it was. Finaly Great dialogue. Most exelent, congradulations on top Sci-Fi continue makeing wonderfull movies.

Editing: 4 / 4 : Overall I saw no editing problems. The sudden scene changes were a bit strange, and you only did them during scene changes. Another option would be to do during the scene, same scene different set, that way people get a slightly better feel that the world is changing around them, not of the people teleporting about.
Dialogue: 3 / 3 : The voice overs were good. Clear and easy to understand.
Plot/Originality: 4 / 5 : The plot was interesting, and it was pretty original. I do feel that there needed to be something more to it. It was a good idea, just needed a bit more depth to it.
Entertainment: 4 / 5 : It was an entertaining movie, kept my interest. Although it's not quite my type of movie.
Music/Sound: 3 / 3 : Good use of music and sound effects.
Total: 18 / 20 - 5 Stars - Excellent

A great dialogue driven film showing the line between right and wrong is sometimes blurred. Was that a "Fade to Black" ending along the lines of a recently concluded mob drama?

This was very tight! I really enjoyed myself watching this and actually found myself a bit sad when it ended. I wanted more! Bob is a character that I would love to see again. Even though he was a bit creepy, he was a very likeable and charismatic character. I like his small dialog touches, like the Oz quote and the Wayback Machine (Gee, Mr. Peebody). They made him seem very?human. The sets changing in the middle of the conversation was really clever. Bravo to you and the rest of the voice actors as all did a fine job. [shhhh!] luck!

A nice overall movie you got here Ken. Well executed, well written. A real treat to watch throughout. One question? Did Roger...er ... I mean Bernie go up or down? You may have a shot at the top prize with an exceptional little masterpiece you have entered. Best of luck.

The character of Bob, rocked my socks! I found him very exciting to not only watch, but to listen to as well. His selection of words and personality were very enjoyable. I'm not sure what "Bob" is, but my guess would probably be "death". Anyhow, great film, great writing, and great "all that other stuff that makes good movies."

Witty, clever, and just my cup of coffee. I was immediately sucked right into your ASS. The VOs were very well done from both our leading males (You and Roger). The story was creative, and I love endings that make the viewer come up with their own conclusions. The music kept the tone of the film light so that we could ultimately laugh at what could seem the somber occasion of death. Very nice job. Certainly the toughest Lionhead comp I've ever been around to see.

A clever and well written piece that caught my attention. It bought home the choice dilemma we all face and the consquences of our actions. I liked the lack of remorse that Bernie showed and the open ending was an ideal resolution.
I especially enjoyed the costume and set changes and the interchanging of Bernie's age, somehow this really held things together much better than I thought it would. The music is then the icing on the cake of this gem of a movie.

Probably about the fiftieth time you've heard this one, but I really loved your ASS. Great dialogue and a great, if slightly predictable ending. Loved it, loved it, loved it. Good luck with the competition.

I could have watched 30 or 40 minutes of that, it was really interesting.

You found a clever way to make the continuity of the scenes not matter.

Great voice overs, great script, and excellent pacing.

The ending, that was absolutely brilliant. Personally I think he went up, because he threw away riches and luxury for trying to get even for those who died in the holocaust, even when given a second chance.
but he could probably go down for trying to take divine judgement in his own hands. I think Bob was leaning towards down...

Anyway, great movie! I want more!

Magic!

I loved the way you shot this movie. Each scene seemed to be crafted with brilliance. You made the characters hauntingly believable by ultising the scenes incredibly well, I hardly recognised some of it as ingame scenes they appeared to be tailored precisely for the movie. The dialogue was very witty and the lines had very nice rhythmn and pace to them.
Poetry in motion! Amazing stuff! Beautiful!

The Voice of TMOA shows us once again his immense talents and skills as this film is full of wit, humour and most importantly, entertainment. For me it is a very rare thing to see a director capable of being able to utilise ALL important tools and skills together to create a fusion of brilliance. The editting was sharp, to the point and allowed the story to flow flawlessly. I always wondered what a TMOA Legend was capable of doing and I always had high expectations before 'Natural Occurance'. You have shown once again, your array of skills and I for one congratulate you for this and wish you the very best luck in the competition!

Excellent job Ken. This is my new favorite for the Fable compeition. I think my favorite part of the movie has to be your writing. The clever dialogue and witty lines, especially from your character, really help propel the story along. From a direction stand point I didn't see any flaws either, but honestly this movie deserves 5 on the story alone.

Best of luck in the competition. This is a more than deserving entry for sure.
Sorry for the late review!

Here comes Mr. Jordan! (Remember that old movie?) A Split Second is a charming witty film that??s showcases the is a huge talent behind the voice of TMOA. A sparkling screenplay is the solid foundation for this charming film. Ken shows his humor and fine directing skills here as well as his top notch acting abilities. Pure gold! Roger too shines here as the recently deceased Bernie and gives one of his finest performances to date. The editing was sharp and professional and kept the film rolling along beautifully. I loved the score too; it had just the right light touch to underscore the action. Brilliant, funny and with an ending that was just perfection. Heddy Hooper loved the film so much that she sat through the film from the matinee to the last showing after midnight. Most likely this was due to the fact that Roger is her most favorite star. As for me, well I loved it for different reasons. Great show! It earns my respect and the MGM Platinum Seal of Approval!

Good movie. I liked Ian McVain's voice. It went perfectly well with his character. I heard RB Strange's voice in Thong of the Dead once. LOL. Great VO's, great story, A+ movie! Plz rate one of my films, if you get the chance.

Up or down? I'll let that be a surprize.

The Good:
The voice over work. Great.
The Mods. Very good.
The story. Nice touch.

The Bad:
Bob's nose. What a HONKER. (just kidding)

Overall:
A good funny movie. Sci-Fi? More a mix of drama and comedy. (Dramedy)
Good Job. This should be released for the Fable competition.

That was so strong. Loved the whole "Bob" character, you voiced him amazingly, and the unknown element made this a great character. The music use was great and the sound effects were good. The story was excellent though.

Yay that was a great story! Well first, it might be my settings, but the music sounded somewhat loud compared to the voices. I really liked the twist of the story, the way the old guy reacts, the way you used the costumes in the shack and just that little mod where it's needed.
Also I liked very much the dialogs and the tempo... yeah.. this is a great little movie!

And we will all go down -- or up -- together. Nice twist on the Angel of Death and a strong and well-told story. Good luck in the comp as I think you have a real shot at winning.

Of course, I probably wouldn't feel that way if I watched the other contenders.

A fun and technically strong little film. Great dialog and use of music in particular, with some pretty good camera work and production value as well... I did notice some rather sudden shifting of character locations while they were speaking, but that can perhaps be explained away by the rather supernatural situation at-hand. The opening titles did whip by a bit quick too.

I'm not sure if I'm going to heaven or hell myself, because I'm not sure he made the wrong decision the second time. ;)

So, a low 5 stars -- I can't put it up there with Natural Occurrence... err... Occurance... but there's clearly enough quality and work put in here to reach that 5 star plateau.

All that crap we expect from all established members, editing music and such are all catered for...they're kinda formalities now.

Cool story, I always enjoy the depth of background story you bring with the movie addled noggin of yours.

Your VO was very good, it had character and was very believable. Wasn't quite as enraptured with Roger's though...fell a bit flat. Wasn't too detrimental though.

Whooowee, Ken's ASS is put on trial and it wiggles out to prove it's worth.

From the first frame of movie, not the overlays, which, from the talk i hoped would be much more than that, no pictures or anything, guess that'll be the director's cut, right? we get a great look at that ASS, and Roger helps Ken reveal the true face of that ASS, like there's a man on the moon, there's Roger on Ken's ASS, and it seems that since the reveal of the anachranim, it's been, and forever will be, the BUTT of all jokes, a major BUMmer indeed, but that's just if you feel ANAL over it all.

Joking aside, the film is brilliant, Ken's ASS looks, sounds and feels great, a true testament to all of us to make ours like Ken's ASS.
