Film Description
1st PLACE WINNER of the Comedy Club's "We name it, you make it" competition in which contestants have to make a film named "FARMERMAN AND THE TURNIPS OF JUSTICE". This is my vision of that movie title. I hope you'll get something out of it.

WOOWWWWWW!!! What a brilliant film that has a strong meaning to it. I love the fact the you have pig and turnips speaking there opinion of their "Suppposed" fate, its is highly effective. The selected music for the film couldn't of been better for it set a high mood of interest and thoughts to the viewer (Well at least for me) and you couldn't of found a better kind of music for this film. The vos, even though they were just done by you as you state in the credits, are absolutely AMAZING. They engaged the viewer in a like transe world where it makes them think of what they have done. Whether thats been eating heaps and heaps of meat. Whether some of the viewers are actually farmers who raise and kill animals for food. Or finally whether people who are on the verge of transforming themselves from an omnivore to a vegetarian, or maybe even vegen (spelling).

Well done, this was a brilliant film in which i loved dearly and even though, yes i have to admit it, i do eat meat, it has given me second thoughts. All my life i've always thought why kill animals to get food, i thought i would be best to wait to they die, and then instantly chop them up and sell the meat. Afterall that would be best for the animal

Well done, and thanks for this brilliant and entertaining film :D

Well... WOW!
I was laughing my head off in the beginning of this movie.
With "I am the pig of conscious thought" &
"The chicken of incoherent delusions"...
THAT was 5 Stars straight away from me!
But then there was so much more.
The Farmers Voice was hilarious..a bumbling Buffoon.
Mel Ein taking Piggy's Role..
How did you get him into that outfit...?
Then talking Turnips..LOL
ALL with a very solid Message underlying all the Humour.
Your a Clever clever Fella Joseph.
Great Setdressing & prop placement, nice Backgrounds too.
The Info at the end was interesting & though provoking.
A Great effort.
I'll have 1 Lentil Burger please!

I must commend you on coming up with something so incredibly thought-provoking when given a title like that to work with...
Excellent!
More than just a comedy(but a damn fine one at that),this movie has a biting commentary which I found to be not only informative, but also gives the viewer "Food for Thought"(lol couldn't help but say that):-)
I like the message...I guess I will live a long life haha:-)
...by the way, isn't Quietusol made from plants?:-D

BRAVO, Joseph!

I love the use of the extremely clever dialogue to make your point. You should also be commended for the courage of your convictions and the willingness to share them publicly. I have seen reviews or forum posts where people have either flamed a movie or said they would if it expressed a particular point of view.

FYI - The chicken line was my favorite.

Damn it Joseph! You made me cry with the sad before-credits informative slides! But this film really made laugh to no measurable extent. I seriously love this film...its a short, simple comedy that packs down hilarity after hilarity. Excellently done, with superb voice-acting, I might add.

BOOKMARKED!

It is a great idea for a movie, and it also had a message. Although, I hate it when vegetarians are trying to make everybody vegetarian I do agree with your message of eating less meat for health reasons.
But enough about the message, lets talk about the film itself which is excellent. The only minus is the man's voice. The movie was very funny. Especially "Manny? I guess it's why you call me Piggy!"

Aw man you did it again. How the hell did you get such a deep meaning from that title? Everything you do has a meaning behind it and that is what makes your movies special. It would have been easy to stop after the farmer died and left it simply as a bit of random fun but you put the message into it at the end with shocking true facts which cause the viewer to question their own lifestyles and beliefs. Are you a vegetarian? If so it is clear from this movie that you feel very strongly about these issues due to the forceful tone of your argument at the end. But the movies itself was also hilarious! I loved Mel Ein as the pig and found it quite amazing that you did all your own VOs since they are so different. I do my own VOs as well and know that it is difficult to make an obvious distinction between voices. Loved the mods and the fact that you did this all on your own unlike other movies you have made. Wow judging by how many awards you have won and how many votes you have recieved you must really be a VCillionaire like on that movie and how much posting space do you have? Btw if you want some good soundtracks you should check out newgrounds.com and search for MilkMan Dan. He is a musical equivalent of you - all his music is outstanding and highly emotional, perfect for a movie. Oh god that came out wrong I'm not criticising your choice of music or anything -in fact that's the opposite of what I think I am a massive fan of the music used in your movies- I just wondered if you needed some new material, that's all. Im digging a hole for myself so I'll just stop. Also you should check the forums for a challenge by rogerSIMIAN to create a 1 minute movie of your own action hero. I just thought if you can get so much meaning into a 15 second clip then 1 minute should be a doddle. You must be busy though, it's just an idea, whatever...

Thanks again for rating my movie.

Macwemyss.

A Brilliant and thought provoking comedy, which has an important moral about killing animals for food. This was well written and concluded well with the statistics, which I feel was neccassary to underpin the moral of the story.

I'm sorry, did i just see what i saw? Or, saw what i seen, or see..saw, anyway. Now, i know i've seen everything, you actually developed a pig, A PIG, into a believable character. That is the most, disturbingly incredible thing i have ever seen. And not only that, but you had a through-line in the process, eat less meat, gain more life. Amazing. I'll never understand how you do it, guess i'm just a "manny".

a short comedy with a message... hey, is comedy allowed to do that?

I liked the dialogue between the farmer and his livestock/harvest. Some clever lines from such the philosophical scholar, piggie. The voice overs and phrasing were well done and the music was nice too.

the ending is what set this film down a bit for me...i liked the build up to it, but the lesson in the end just didnt do it for me.

I must admit i didnt like the "facts" at the end...studies are just studies. if I go to the right website or read from another book I would have counter stats. I tend to just go with my own thoughts on these things and everything I do or put into my body. Including as much meat as I want to. I dont eat alot myself, but i will

to me, one thing really rang true in this message:
people tend to care more about animals than they do humans lately... oh well

Ending: 10/10 Perfection.
Scene selection: 8/10 It was the same scenes a lot.

Another example of josephkw's talent whe approaching a project. No matter what side of the issue you might favor this film will at the very least ease you into thinking about its message. It does this with mostly simple humor and well thought lines that allows this movie to lure the viewer in and perhaps even into possible change. Very good indeed!

A funny film indeed which does put its message across well despite doing its best to cloud that message.

The farmer - most of his lines were completely unintelligible from the off, I know he was meant to be somewhat dim but seeing someone mumble incoherently is neither enlightening or funny.

But the Piggy - that was much better (the turnip as well) he had some classic lines and the voice suited that permanent frown on his face very well.

I liked the gag of having the turnips effectively wanting the pig to [way to ruin a punchline jazz - stop now].

Nice backdrop, props and music - perhaps a tad heavy on the message at the end, I think that job was done well enough and more effectively by the pig during the film.

I don't know where my other review for this went, but LORD this was a great film. A good, strong comedy piece with an excellent hidden message. This flick is SMART and WITTY, without beating up the viewer. Just the kind of filmmaking which can win people over to new ideas, be it political or argicultural.

(BTW - I went to a dairy farm the other day which does not harm cows, sees to their comfort, and recycles their byproducts into electricity enough to run the farm complex as well as neighboring homes.)

The Good:
Good use of mods.
Decent music.

The Bad:
It's not really bad, everyone has a choice, but I didn't care for the message.

Overall:
Nice job. Good Luck in the contest

Manny & Piggy had me chuckling from the start, not to mention the turnips of justice.

Not only technically flawless, (the use of scenes really impressed me}
but a film with a message.
It was almost enough to turn me vegetarian? almost.
But maybe I will skip that bacon sandwich for breakfast now though?..

Poor little Piggy. Doesn??t he look deliciously cute in his soft pinkish skin that snugly warps its rotund body? (Sorry?)

A_N_D said exactly what I was thinking, but in a much better way?

I do have great respect for vegetarians. I think it is a wonderful thing that a person can make such a sacrifice out of compassion for those nameless animals.

I tend to be guarded against persuasion on an emotional channel though. But I was laughing hysterically when the farmer picked up that axe! So here go my 5 stars.

It's great to see a comedy with a moral point. I loved this film! Had me laughing aloud and looking for the next twist and joke. Goodness, now I think I should go vege... or at least give up pork lol!

Behind all the classy and intelligent humor lay a great message that was presented in a great farm-setting which really captured that farm-life feel. I was impressed by the editing the voices, especially that idiot farmer =D
I'm of course not a vegetarian (in fact I had a nice juicy burger before watching this) and I have my reasons why, but I'm here to judge the film, not the message, and the film was really well done, I enjoyed it!

Comedy with a moral plotline? Im not sure thats been done many times in the past the way this one is. Absolute pure genius. DUDE,, Lucas doesnt have nothing on you. The voiceovers are fantastic, the custom work the pig and turnups is great, and the ending just makes it all worth while!
PS: Nice soundtrack! I think ive heard the music before :)

That's just so cool.

Anyways, on to the movie itself, which as usual, was done with the usual Joseph panache and flair that we've all come to expect.

Subtle comedy with a moral and a message...and of course a few brilliantly timed gags.

Mel Ein's gained a pound or two, I've noticed!

Top work, full marks:-)

I am a vegetarian. So I can absolutely relate to your movie. I didn??t know that you are a vegetarian or that you are supporting an alimentation without meat. Too many people eat meat today without thinking about what they do. I had a lot of discussions about this topic in the past. And your movie is just a cool, ingenious statement.
I also love HOW you deal with this topic. It is packed inside a nice little story with jaunty dialogues, sweet props and motley costumes. Thought-provoking AND entertaining. And that is what a good movie needs. You have won thousands of additional sympathies from my side through this little flick. I love your creative universalism. I love your ability to make people think without being a Preacher. Very good!

There was nothing subtle about this message, but it was a beautiful message just the same. I am not a vegetarian, and probably will remain this way forever, but this film definately opened my eyes to the twisted nature of this vile race we call "humans." We are more animals then anything we munch upon.

Oh, and of course, just because something has heart doesn't mean it can't be hilarious as well. How could you not chuckle at the mention of a "chicken of incoherent delusions?" The entire concept was clever and funny in itself, so applause, applause to a fantastic effort.

Well, that was interesting.. I had no idea you could make such humorous voices, great job bringing props to life. Ha, ha, funny and educational too. Good timing, inspired by Earth Day?
I might add, that having grinding molars and long digestive systems means that we have been herbivores, not carnivores for the majority of our history...
Well done Joseph!

It was very difficult not to give stars out based on the message (four stars), and to instead give them for the film (five stars) - it was very difficult to separate the content from the delivery, but I did it - eventually.

I would argue all day that we WERE created to be omnivores, NOT herbivores; that the Creator (for those who believe in One) had a purpose in mind for every tooth structure in our mouths, be they incisors, canines, or molars, and that eating meat is amongst those purposes; I would even argue your statistics at the end, and point out that only a handful of studies have shown "that vegetarians live longer", and would argue further that we're talking about a few years of additional life, and that those are the ones at the end - they're the diaper-wearing, "where did I park my car and why can't I find my dentures?" years... I would argue that every animal on the earth IS here to be eaten by something else - don't believe me? - visit a body farm sometime and watch the breakdown by the beetles and bugs - EVERYTHING gets eaten, and there is plenty of killing to do it. Suggest you watch Discovery Channel's latest masterpiece "Planet Earth" for additional perspective (though by no means I am implying that you haven't thought through your lifestyle choice or are being short-sighted, Joseph - please know that).

I could debate this subject all day (like politics or religion - look out), but arguing makes ME hungry for a thick steak, which seems disrespectful in this instance, so I shan't go on... ;)

Your take on this in no way takes food out of MY mouth - you are entitled to your opinion, your beliefs, and your lifestyle, and by sharing your vision on the subject the way you've done here, with humor, eloquence, and skill, you'll make many, many people THINK.

Considering that my claim to fame here is over another very controversial subject, I respect the hell out of your sharing your personal take on it with the world this way - that takes balls. And I get the feeling that your intention is the same as mine, not to necessarily CHANGE anyone's mind for them, but to at least make them reconsider, to make them really THINK about it for a moment.

A five-star execution, if you'll pardon the pun. Very cute, and well done little short message film, Joseph. Bravo.

The photo of the piglets at the end was appealing to emotion rather than reason, but other than that this was a very nice entry which may start an entire new genre of tasteful TMO message movies. (Sorry for the double entendre.)

I was a bit too aware of the lack of motion of the main character, and hoping it'd have been disguised a bit more, but other than that this was a clever and delightful little flick. :)

Whether one agrees or disagrees with the point of view, the humor was hysterical and the message was definitely very well presented on most levels to get me to balance out my diet a little more. Small steps, right? As far as the film itself goes, I was impressed with all the custom add-ons to make a nice farm setting. Well done. Voice-acting was great and the script was hilarious as mentioned. I loved Manny -> Piggy -> Turnipy logic in naming scheme, as well as the "I am the pig of conscious thought, ... oh you want to talk to the chickens of obscure delusions, ... we are the turnips of justice..." and "my grammar is better than yours" lines. Some brilliant bits of comedy. Overall, this is the kind of stuff I've come to expect from you: top class brilliant humor and master film-making.

OUr first film! And what a way to get the ball rolling!

This movie was well Unexpected to say the least. It has elements of animal farm in it's satire of modern life. And a subtle refined humor.

The sarcastic pig: Would you rather talk to the chickens of incoherent delusions.

A Manny who doesn't get it. I am hard of hearing Im going to eat you both.

And a most unforseen usage of the turnips of justice.

You have set the bar high my friend. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

How do you do that? Given nothing but a title (and one that would have made me say: oh my god! What shall I do with that?! :D).. you come up with a movie that is not only funny, but has a deeper meaning, too!
Just great! I loved the voices, the dialogue was very witty, there is really no end to your creativity!

What a brillant way to deliver your message!

About the movie, it was well done as usual in this studio, mods, voice, music, cam, everything was very good.

For a message film, it was OK. Not one I personally believe, though. But each to their own. The pig was cute, and the turnips of justice were funny. And the ultimate irony of the farmer being 'eaten' was a nice touch (that was the intent, wasn't it?)

Good little movie. Too bad to longest living people on the planet drink, smoke and eat meat. But why let the facts get in the way of a good story.

A very interesting comedy you have come up with yet again JKw! you manage to execute the VO lines well and provide some variety between the farmer ,pig and turnips. The dialogue while not being the funniest I've heard, still had its quirky moments and I thought your use of camera/editting for the non-animated objects was quite well done. Great use of sets too in what is a very good entry into the competition.

I wish you the best of luck for this and cannot wait to see your next entry or film.

Nuke Well in the Turnip!

Damn it Joseph! You made me cry with the sad before-credits informative slides! But this film really made laugh to no measurable extent. I seriously love this film...its a short, simple comedy that packs down hilarity after hilarity. Excellently done, with superb voice-acting, I might add.

BOOKMARKED!
