Holy Mother of Christ.

Mix -

You need a bigger budget, a crew, and a few tweaks so -extraordinarily small- that I'd have to watch this with you frame-by-frame to point them out.

You just made a movie-movie, not a "TMO movie" not an "awesome TMO movie", not an "outstanding TMO movie"...

But a movie-movie.

Rock the #@$% on, Mixmasterfestus, and keep doing what you've always done here - you are destined for grand and wonderful things in filmdom, should you choose to pursue them.

Plot, pacing, tone, and structure, a maximization of the software's capabilities (and beyond - dont lie to me, Mister Outside Editor), and a wonderful vision for the future of TMO (that's "Modders", with a capital "M", for the slow folks...)...

Mix - you rock the TMO house to the foundations every time you release your goodness upon us. And WTF, you just added depth and tone and plot out of the clear blue sky and I love you for it.

Please don't stop.

As the title suggests revenge is a hollow dance. It seems that no matter what one does to quench it he is still left feeling empty inside.

The Hollow Dance begins with a man carrying someone over his shoulders. The man is weak and tired. His face is streaming with blood and a sense of sorrow and loss touched his voice. Narrated so hauntingly by Lizard, we are immediately intrigued and brought into the stylistic realm that mixmasterfestus has so meticulously created. We are left wondering what has happened to this man that has brought him to such a point. Then the story begins...

What a way to begin a film! The viewer is drawn in and left begging for more after a thrilling cliffhanger ending. A well written and directed story is key to a films success and this movie as ample amounts of both. I must congratulate the cast for bringing these characters to life. Lizard sure knows how to play a bad ass.

But clearly it is mixmasterfestus that deserves most of the praise. His dark and artistic vision is brought to life before our eyes. One can see the work of a master. I am holding my breath with great anticipation for the continuation of this saga.

Aswome job MMFdude. I am honored to have been a part of it.

"The Hollow Dance" is a beautiful, modern noirish tango that captures the mind with its precise brilliance to the point where it just astounds you to no end. It is tantalizing, it is amazing...it is the definition of incredible storytelling. And guess what? That was only the captivating first chapter.

Upon examination, this film is virtually flawless. Perfection. Everything from the no-holds-barred revamped visual style is done impecabbly...and it is oh so unique. With black and white with the occassional red splash of color, it is pure eye candy. This was edited to spectacular extent. The voice-acting is top notch, among the best I've heard. Each performance seems finely in tune with the script...its just amazing to hear such sync throughout the film. Its great. Its unreal.

The storytelling is top notch. We haven't dug too deep into the story, yet my mind is already buzzing on where the plot will carry us. Starting off with a high-voltage preview of what seems to be the conclusion of the script, it rewinds five years to show us how we get to the electrifying end result. The extrodinary direction complements this. Its overall style is phonomenal.

All in all, this is one hell of a release...my head is alive with inspiration at this magnificent tale.

Beautifully done, mixmaster. Beautifully executed.

I loved the fresh style and look presented here--reminds me of a splinter cell game. The characters are believable and the dialogue realistic (well, maybe a tad too much cursing at the end). I look forward to learning more of the background to this dance.

OK. Where to begin where to begin? Well, first I'll come all out and say this movie was oustanding. Like, #1 on the charts for a very, very, very, very, very, very, very long time. The first scene was amazing and drew me in with a firm grip that didn't let go until the end. Actually, I'm still gripped and I need to see the next one! Man, what a cliffhanger. The title is perfect! Revenge really is a Hallow Dance. Wow. You are so talented. The camera angles is what did it. Your movement and positioning kept the movie interesting even if what was happening was very boring. Most of the time, the movie was interesting, but for a couple minutes I was bored, but I just drooled over the camera movement...which, don't get me wrong, was just as interesting as a good plot. You had all of the components of a TMO hit. An interesting plot, interesting music, AWESOME camera movement/angles, great, no, superb voice actors, A+++ modding, amazing character development, and add it all together and you get the best movie on TMO by the most skilled Director on TMO. You really know your stuff with this game; you are so experienced. I'm still wondering how you used those overlays and camera movements so flawlessly. I mean, explosions, the camera speeds up and slows down with strange movement, I mean how can you be so awesome? BOOKMARKED! I mean, release this thing in the theaters for crying out loud! Except, make it longer. Make 100 of these movies and make 'em each an hour long...that will be awesome. And the fact that this is only Part One makes me want to jump up and dance!

Oh. My. God. This is the greatest TMO movie I have ever seen. Where to begin? The cast was amazing, the beginning set up an atmosphere of suspense and intrigue, and the writing was superb. There was a bit too much cussing at the end, but still, I'm not kidding; this was better than some REAL movies I've seen. Bookmarked!

Standard Marking Rubric

Dialouge:
Characters: Well Done (8.5/10)
Storyline: Amazing (10/10)
Voice Actors (If any): Amazing (10/10)
Flow Of Scenes: Well Done (8.5/10)
Custom Titles (If Any): Amazing (10/10)

Let me start with the characters.

The characters where introduced very well, but not well enough to get you an amazing. You should've just given us a bit more information about the characters. That would've given you an amazing.

Storyline

Absolutly brilliant. A very clever movie, a sort of dark action. But it just kept on moving without a glitch. Very well done :)

Voice Actors

You have assmebled a great cast here MMF. They did a wonderful job. They deserve a pat on the back :p

The flow of scenes

was done amazingly, kept you guessing each second mixed with the filmotography, it was priceless.

Custom Titles

Were more than amazing they were outstading! So detailed! You did an amazing job with thos and you should be pretty damn proud of your work MMF.

Anyways overall it is one of the best action movies I have seen in a long time ;)

Overall rating: 9.5/10 rounded to 10/10 equals 5 stars.

Thank you for posting your movie onto my thread.

Holly crap dude. I Need a change of underpants. You are my "TMO hero"...

I can't even figure how where to start on a review for this. Not because there was anything wrong with it, but because there was nothing wrong with it...

Can't wait to see the next part.

Also,(just because it never hurts to ask), I and my studio are looking for a film maker or two here on TMO that would like one or more of their movies filmed as a live action movie. There will be no pay of course, and neither I, or my studio will make any money either, being that it is part of a workshop. But thus far, I don't think I'm gonna find a better candidate than you. So my question is, would you be willing to allow us to take your film to the next level, being filmed live action? It would of course include part two when you get it made.

Give me an email with a yes or no, with subject "live action" - jacard_obshe@yahoo.com

Again, bravo.

The Archaic Awards
Review

Story: 9/10 So far a great story, but not much of a story. All you really have is a robbery scene.

Music: 5/5 Great music!

VO/Subs: 10/10 All voiceovers were perfect and crisp. Great job selecting your cast.

Script: 3/5 Even though I gave you permission to enter, I didn't realize that the f word would be said so many times so quickly. Many of them weren't needed. You didn't have to say it so many times. Damn and hell, and s*** could have been substituted. Anyway, other then that a decent script.

Extras: 7/5 Wonderful mods and freecam!

Editing: 14/15 Decent movie. Well paced, and everything. Scenes were great as was transition. However, for once I felt there wasn't enough. I was not satisfied and it came across as a mediocre film because of it.

Final Score: 49/50

Jimminy Crickets!

Visually sumptuous and full of high-octane energy, The Hollow Dance is electricity incarnate -- a hardboiled noir film amplifying everything we thought we knew about cinema itself to the nth degree! Rarely does a movie on TMO impress me to the point of incoherent hyperbole, but this is a special case; everything comes together in such a tremendous and beautiful way it sends me just going into a fit of praise. Featuring professional visuals, tight editing, dead-on performances, and pulpy writing hitting you like a pair of bloody knuckles, this movie explodes with all sorts of goodness.

Just incredible!

A masterpiece in the making.

The Good:
The opening sequence was fantastic -- Thanks Woody
The dialog between the characters was superb. Joking while at the same time serious. Nice touch.
The greytone filming being offset by the color sensor shot was brilliant.
The music was right in line with the tone of the action.

The Bad:
In one scene, the cigarette smoke trail was stationary. I'm not sure if this was a TM bug orsomething in your system. Didn't effect the scene much but was noticable.

Overall:
Great job. Looking forward to the next segment.

Great film, and as A_N_D pointed out, I don't mean to say "nice TMO film". I believe it would compete on its own against any piece of film or Machinima that it could come up against.

I don't need to explore your characters, your story and elaborate exposition established them and you know you did it well. Obviously you invested a lot of time into developing an instant moment that would be compounded by a subtle twist. This reminds me of Fitzgerald??s "The Last Tycoon", in a specific scene that is elaborately described without direction, just for the sake of "thinking with pictures". It is how we build a true film, and you returned to the roots of visuals. The plot didn't wind around a fairy tale, but it was deep enough to string me along for a very good ride.

Again and as nearly expected, your visuals were great. You seem to want to push the envelope each time you attempt a film venture, and are yet to let me down. Overall, I was amazed by what I received from a film under 10 minutes. Great work.

Posting for "UnREEL Reviews"....This film is nothing short of amazing. The VO cast is spot on in that they provide not only voices, but ACTING as well. You almost come to expect that of Lizard, but docontheweb is really starting to come into his own as a VA.

You didn't miss a step in this film -- the writing is some of your best work, the settings are nicely modded but not overbearingly so, the music is chosen with care so that each piece provides the perfect background to the scene, your camera work is simply superb. This is a film that transcends any rating system -- we give a platinum star as our highest, but this is more like a supernova, and that is one we don't give out lightly. It is almost unbearable to have to wait until the next installment, and yet wait we must. And we do, festus, we do wait.

Without reservation, this is a must-see movie. This is one of the finest examples of film-making we have seen to date on TMO. You have not created a mere piece of machinima but a MOVIE, one into which you have breathed LIFE. This is a sterling example of just how good The Movies and TMO can be.

I wasn't sure what to think after watching this. It looks far too good for a TMO online quality film. Maybe this guy was a brilliant charlatan who had cracked the code to getting outside edited material onto TMO. The only scene I recognised was the guy tapping away at his computer, the rest of it wasn't like watching a TMO film at all.

But, this is mixmasterfestus, creator of the incredible groundbreaking "Oh It's On" series of films - he's been away since, and now we know what he was doing on his extended holiday.

This is the PM I received when I suspiciously asked him about the film's construction (used with permission):

"Hello Mr Jazz!

This method of film making has been around on dcmodding.com for quite some time. Gleem has developed an FLM editor which allows you to modify and new scenes (by this I mean slightly altered versions of old ones), including walk paths and what animations get played where, it also lets you define which facial animation is played. All it takes is a little learning and a crap load of patience, but anyone can do it

The LH Intro were all overlay sequences. The LH Intro was taken from Fable (which I had to buy a copy of :P) and was approved by Woody prior to using it and the other titles were made by a piece of software called LiveType which I gotta copy of along with some other stuff I bought for my mac. But that said they were all overlay sequences and therefore perfectly "legal" within the context of TMO.

And of course the textures of the game were modified in Photoshop (purely legal copy of course :P) to get the Black & White effect.

It all depends how strictly you're defining outside software, because everyone uses this stuff to a certain degree. But can certainly confirm that I haven't cheated :P

Cheers

mmf"

So I'm now a believer.

Now we know there was no cheating going on, we're left with a seriously groundbreaking film:

Best technical achievement in visual quality for an online quality TMO film
Best heist film on TMO
Best set design
Best editing
Best modded costumes and makeup
Best banter between two "buddy" characters
Best corporate logo scene/use of a cow in a TMO film
Best sound quality in a TMO film

Many will comment on the dazzling visuals, I prefer to choose to concentrate on the sizzling dialogue between the main characters, as well as the deeper stuff voiced excellently by the lead.

Flawlessly edited together, this is story telling at its absolute finest.

The film's not without its faults though - some graphics glitches in the lift scene (maybe using my trick of fading in and out to imply the lift is in motion and going down the floors would have papered over this) - oh, and after "5 Years Ago", the piano player comes in one quaver too early in the left hand, which for me completely ruined the film!

(hehehe)

A stunning piece of work from start to finish - and the story hasn't really got going yet!

Since TMO began, who would've thought our site could harbor such an intense, compelling, well-structured masterpiece? Who would've thought such a fantastic story could be captured with this amount potence and imagery via TM? Who would've thought we could achieve not just Machinimia filmmaking, but truem genuine filmmaking, edited to perfection and laced with cinematic touches that leave a viewer breathless? No one, that's who...we never expected the filmmaking bar to be set as high as it is now. And oh God, you just raised it higher!

Films like these are the Lucky Charms of TMO--packed with flavor and pizazze, dashed with splashes of white-knuckled thrills, and winning us over with unique imagery that never gets tired to look at. Just one mouthful and you're hooked on this fantastic, 8-minute adreniline rush. Not many films reach the standard of "The Hollow Dance"...and I'm certainly not talking about TMO flicks.

There's nothing 'hollow' about this film, no matter from what angle you look at it. It's a jam-packed, adreniline-fueled, story-driven, mindboggling, riveting, edge-of-your-seat, white-knuckled, spectacular, and flawless thriller. And it all makes me jealous.

Now, why isn't this movie Number One.
I only have superlatives to speak of it.
But one word will say them all: MASTERPIECE.
At one time there was Dignity of Man, but this movie beats everything I've seen on TMO.
This is now my 'Best directed movie'.
For a moment I thought it was going to be a Splinter Cell flick, but no. It turns out to be much better than that.
Five stars and a half.

Wowy wow wow.
The undisputed master of visual effects finally lives up to his full potential by creating a serious, tasteful, plot-driven piece of art.
As expected, the visual aspects of the movie were flawless and mindblowing, easily the best on TMO. Sound effects were subtle and rich, an excellent addition to the stark black and white and stunning overlay work.
What really stuck out at me was the intensity of the script. It was perfectly written to keep tension building and blood pumping. My mind was racing to make connections as fast as they were being revealed. The psychological thrill of the script alone was worth 5 stars.
Voice acting was top-notch. A great cast of TMOers plus an unbelievable new addition (Bravo, Krysstian!). I'll never tire of hearing DNR drop f-bombs. To borrow from the great Ted Nugent, intensity in ten cities.
This was a great introduction, it exceeded my highest expectations and I can't wait to see the continuation.

I love the use of, lack of colour, it sets an impressive tone. I love the way you've shot the film too; there is nothing that is inferred, but rather you truly present the vision. Incredibly well done. The ending of tis chapter is also most impressive. I won't give any of it away, but your writting is excellent.

Overall 5 stars truly deserved.

Wow that was amazing! Very artistic, also. Great cast and music, everything was so good... just perhaps some black parts a very little too long, but that's just to say something, this movie is excellent, I really liked it! Please PM me when part 2 is released! :)

I loved this film. There was great character development and it looked amazing I have no idea how you did the black and white with colour but it looked stunning.

I can't wait for episode 2! :)

Wow. I don't even know where to start. This movie leaves me salivating for more. The music and fx were brilliant. I loved the black and white. Dark and captivating storytelling with well written VO's.

A real gem of a movie.

Keep up the excellent film making. I don't know if you know how excited you've made me for more of your work.

Thats was amazing. I wish I could comment on everything that was good- [wash your mouth out!] it, I will. Colors were really cool, the placement of them was even better. Story was cool. Camera work was awsome, friggin' love it. Sound/music, sucked in the sense that it was amazing!

Overall, [wash your mouth out!] Oh it's On. This is the [be polite!].

This movie is like no other! It's unique.
When I watch this movie, I think, "This is no film made on the movies game." I wouldn't be surprised if this got into a real cinema.
I didn't have time to watch the whole film, but I didn't need to, I knew it was a class act all the way.
Very clear voices, brill script, cool graphics, wonderful camera work, relevant music. Anyone that gives this movie under 5 stars is insane. There's nothing I could say to trash it.

I don't feel worthy of leaving a review for this movie because I'm without words... But I can't possibly leave this one alone since it is yet another TMO milestone of movie making.

Plot: Feels very well thought out and I can't wait to see the next one. Consistent and fluent.
Mods/visuals: Fantastic. Beautiful style that establishes a mood and an obvious trademark of the whole movie.
Music: great
Everything else: Great

Like I said I'm without words to describe this one. AND described it best. This is a movie-movie. It feels live action and professional. I'm left in utter awe.

5 stars no question.

Man oh man. This was out of this world, and just felt like one of those intense MGS/Splinter Cell games. Very mature movie, that shows a lot of promise. The voices felt like water, and so even your editing. The only little complain I have is the ending, which I found a little bit too abrupt, even though it is a serie. Anyway, all in all excellent excellent work on this bro.

Hey Mix.

Not watched a movie on TMO for months but stumbled across this and was mightily impressed. It looks like Msaeluk & Matneee were right, overlays are the way forward.

Great stuff.

very very impressive...from the amazing introduction to the last second, your movie shows perfection at every level :in directing, voice overs, ..I especially appreciated the use of colours, just a little touch from time to time (sorry for my bad english) : great job, it really gives an arty style to your movie, a thing that the script didn't let us suspect.
A really great job again..and see you for the next part.

Wooooah....

That was simply amazing. Every aspect of the film was original and aesthetically beautiful. I always wondered how you'd top OIO but you've proved yourself to be much much much much, and I stress MUCH more than a one hit wonder. Your experiance and knowledge of the game really shined here. You had some fantastic mods and revolutionary techniques, just like in OIO.

The VOs were top notch from a top notch cast.
The music was nice and different and very atmospheric.
The storyline was excellent and gripping and we've been left at a mysterious cliffhanger.
The opening sequence was probably the best I've ever seen. So much like a professional film, I wouldn't be surprised if you were actually a Hollywood Film Maker. The overlays involved were at times simple but really effective.

I doubt I would be able to recreate any of the scenes in this movie because they were so different and each one so intricate. For instance how come this Jimmy character has strange white skin. And how did you do that laser wall scene? Honestly I don't wanna know your trade secrets. Just keep making excellent films like this and I'll be more than satisfied.

Probably the most professional film on TMO. Good Job.

What words could possibly describe the indescribable edgy style of this film? There are none. This is film making at its finest. This film catches the eye and grasps the throat, taking you through a crazy story of eye-candy and awesome voice acting. So far the story has caught my attention. I cannot wait for the rest of this.

Now that was my kind of movie.

Everything was oustanding, the direction, the sound, the story, the voice-acting. It makes the other so-called TMO 'greats' look completely amateurish, it blows anything else that's ever been done on here out of water.

I think it'll be hard for me to ever give out another 5 star rating to another movie if this is the standard.

Now This Movie is one Respectable Work of Machinima, worthy of TV, to say the least. 5 Stars isn't enough for this movie, either, not by a long shot. I must say, Mixmasterfestus, I thought I might have eclipsed you, but the moon is small, and passes by the sun in a short time. The titling and direction in this movie were really, really pro. Not only were your effects seamless, the story & camerawork were superb, and the ending was done with great finesse. Absolutely above the rest of TMO, by far.

Well well well... If it isn't The Hollow Dance.

So extremly anticipated, and yet it Delivers! :)
I was so happy with this film, the story, the visuals, the vo's, the sets, the music - yes everything! How some people manages to make films with this quality with the movies is far beyond me. The story was of course excellent, exciting, intriguing and with a few twists and turns. The VO's were also fantastic and I can see that you have a lot more talanted VA's coming up in the next one. The sets and make-up/prop visuals were beautiful. Feels like Sin City visually and that's really REALLY a good thing! The editing was also polished to perfection, and the use of free-cam was just splendid!

Mixmaster, you have truly surprised and amazed me with this one and I really really can't wait for part 2, PM me when it's out!

btw, I wonder how many f-words you pulled off in a minute xD oh well, perfect film anyways.

This movie is officially FUNKY!

You broke through the borders of a usual TMO Film. The TMO feeling transcended to a cinematic experience. The storyline is one big strength of this flick, besides the wonderful effects, visuals and acoustics. The suspense was just constant. It was atmospheric. It really sucked me in. It??s crazy, that this flick reminds me of the wonderful game ??Metal Gear Solid??. I love Metal Gear. The best story you can simply find in a game! While the visuals seemed more like ??Splinter Cell?? to me, the feeling was just Metal Gear. And that is a compliment. The funnier it is, that the voice of Lizard is absolutely alike Solid Snakes, and the guy in the computer room looks like Otacon/Hal Emerich. However. Your movie is still self-contained. And I am absolutely anxious to see, what happens in the next instalments. I can tell you, that you broke through to my favourites with this movie.

OK, OK, so it was pretty durn good, I have to admit. To pick fault with this would be churlish as it was almost universally excellent. It has a striking and engaging visual style and really quite superb direction - on the surface it's fairly understated, but I'm aware of just exactly how much work that takes. Just as important, the audio tapestry it weaves is as well considered and professional as I've heard outside of cinema - within it's own context the decisions you made in sound direction would certainly not be out of place on broadcast-standard work. TM is obviously quite restrictive as far as visual presentation goes, but we have no such limits on sound and you've done very well there. As for the plot, well, it ain't original but it was certainly enough to carry the show (although r.e. the script and last few minutes - there are other swearwords than the one begining with F, y'know ;)). Pretty much the only thing I would have changed was the 'Security Net' thing - it might just be me, but it seemed like it was thrown in for little else other than to use another skin - but to my mind the sudden splash of colours jarred me out of the overall presentation. It just seemed, well, unnecessary.

But overall, yeah, excellent. I'd certainly buy this film a pint.

Festus is back! WOO-HOO! Oh yeah!!! That rocked dude!!! It's great to see you back making block-buster movies!!! I loved this movie. It was very stylish, i loved the black and white style. It suited the film. The story for part 1 was pretty good, but I just can't wait to see how it continues. The cast was star studded and really gave top-notch performances. And also, make the film very enjoyable. The music was really excellent. The editing was flawless.
Very camera-work. I loved the way that you used custom sets, that's a really cool idea because it looks different. Superb overlays. A cool opening too.
I really enjoyed this first part Festus and i'm eager for more!!!
Excellent job overall. An excellent effort!!!!
By far, the most enjoyable action on TMO right now. A very entertaining film.

I must say, festus, you get a plot and it gets taken to the next level.

Outstanding visuals and break-neck pacing make this a film not to be missed! The writing is crisp, the characters are interesting, and the mods are amazing. Heck, if this was the first 10 minutes of a real film, I'd come back for a second and third showing. And I'd buy popcorn each time!

Excellent work, festus. This is the kind of movie-making that I wish were more present not only on TMO, but in Hollywood as well. An Awesomely Awesome film, mixmasterfestus, and I am dying to see what else you have in store for us.

In a word, perfection. Masterful in every aspect, and as strong as any multi-million dollar studio film. I honestly don't have words that would mean anything. OMG! What have you done?! *scratches head* No way is this a TMO movie! It's the real thing! Brilliant use of camera work and visuals! And the sound! I believe it was the sound, and the ambience that it created that lifted me from reality and immersed me fully into the film.

Geeze, man. I thank you for this fine piece of work!

Spectacular visuals and outstanding editing. You have to give it up to MMF for thinking outside the box when making a movie.

I thought this had a very mainstream Hollywood action movie feel to it, but I don't mean this in a bad way. You've made it with a budget of nothing and that should make "them" feel ashamed. The script was solid, the acting spot on. The camera angles were inventive and fresh. The modding work blends seemlessly with the visual style. Even the credits were mesmerizing. Everything just works, and for a few minutes we think we are watching professional work.

It's *that* good.

This is a film I've been eagerly anticipating since you first mentioned it - and this is definitely the exception to the usual let-down that comes at the end of a long wait. Of course it was going to be technically brilliant, but you've really pulled off a strong, mature story and some terrific, realistic, hard-bitten dialogue.

The acting was phenomenal - from Lizard to Krysstian to Doc - even DNR was perfect in his small role. And the music was perfect.

It nearly kills me to say this, but I am amazed, overwhelmed, and impressed. Festus....you are the master.

Flawlessly done. Superb voice acting. Fantastic overlay work and modding. Sound was great. One thing though, needed more monkeys. Would it be considered rude to plug Thong of the Dead at this point?

Ok I won't then :) Great MMF, a serious movie done seriously well. It deserves to get to at least number 2 in the charts :p

A facinating Story that was gripping from its artistic opening sequence through to its thrilling climax! all this was done in the quickest 8 minutes I've witnessed on TMO. This episode laid down the foundations for future episodes and I believe you are onto a winner here. Fantastic use of camera angles and editting to create a smooth fluid presentation. Excellent use of mods and lighting effects and Great Acting Make the first episode of 'The Hollow Dance' something to sit up and take notice at.

Nuke Well in the Dance!!!

Impressive. Very much so. Love the modding. Could have been a little longer, but the cliffhanger you left it on is worth it. ;)

Golden Badger Award, yadda yadda, number one film, blah blah, you should be crowned King or something, doo be doo...
