Film Description
Part One of my medieval action/drama film called EMPIRE is an introductory prologue to the various characters, locations and background story of the film.

After Lord Bryce (King of Guntharis, the largest empire on the map), visits a fortune teller, he learns that a child will one day rise up against him. Taking no chances, Lord Bryce sends out an arrogant, ruthless warrior known as Seth to slaughter all newly-born children, including the child of Ilara Cambridge, whom has just given birth to a young boy.

NOTE:
- Because of the poor quality, the battle damage may not appear as well as I would've liked to, so I am releasing a High Quality version onto Skinshack Cinema very soon.

- Please ignore that blasted Buffalo Bill poster, even though I've deleted it for some reason it hasn't removed its unworthy self from the page.

I don't think you know just how much i loved that.... that was 16 minutes of
the best film in this community.

there are films like these that take years to do, and don't come around very often. But simply by a magic of one game "The Movies". You give everybody reasons for this game to exist.

It was nicely done, infact incredibly done. It wasn't one of those movies that got to the top because of its stars.....

~~~~ It got to the top because it was a great story and filled with passion ~~~~
You inspire me and should certainly inspire everyone else... that has sence.lol
BUT... ~ TODDYVINEY APPROVAL ~ is awarded
Ow my eyes hurt! The movie took 16 mins of my life... but 16 mins of my life which were well worth using,
That, in my opinion, was exceptional. The overlays, freecam and backdrop were what really made my mouth drop. The scenery was beautiful.
this movie will go into my hotpick considerations.
thank you for this pleasure.
P.S. was the movie poster supposed to be advertising buffalo bill as it is for me lol
Fantastic Andy! Simply fantastic! You did a stunning job on this film, from the begining to the end you never stopped amazing me! The intro of this film, is the one part that I think deserves the most attention, as it is flawlessy done with great detail which is not often very easy to do. The music, although there was not very much of it was well suited to the genre as well as the film. The Voice Acting was fantastic, except for the fact that at the end of the film when Isolde's brother talks, his voice has almost no emotion in it. Which made the end feel a little bit lacking.
Aside from that, the rest of the film was a fantastic work of art. Certaintly worthy of various film awards and simply an outstanding job. It is easy to tell how much work and effort you put in this film, thank you very much for telling me about it and giving me the oppurtunity to view such a fantastic film. Simply 5 out of 5 Stars, again fantastic effort and I look forward to reviewing your sequel to this film.
WOW...this story was indeed amazing! This was an unbelievably excellent script. Awesome vo's by an all-star cast of voice actors & actresses. The music was awesome and very well selected. In fact, I don't think you coulda pulled off such an excellent film without it. I thought the editing was very very good, and the custom sets, costumes, props, drops & lays worked to perfection. The only problem I found was that some of the vo's weren't evened out in terms of volume, but that's not abnormal.
You have emerged into a fine young filmmaker, who keeps getting better and better with each film. I can see so many awards in the future for this movie. You've got my vote and my support. I'm happy to say you've made me proud!
I welcome this movie to my bookmarks...well done!
my ratings:
script: 6 stars (you get a bonus star)
music & sound fx: 5 stars
editing: 5 stars
custom (sets, drops, lays, etc): 5 stars
vo's: 5 stars
genre effectiveness: 5 stars
overall: 5.16 stars
From the first inspiring, epic fly-over above the quaint midevil village, I knew "Empire" was a treasure to behold. After that, I was certainly not disappointed. The poetic landscape and illustrious characters brought the film to life, and an astounding script made for an appealing, rich story. So far, it is an achievement to behold...a masterwork in the art of TMO filmmaking.
The entire atmosphere of "Empire" is magnificent. Andy, you have an incredible eye for pinpointing the stoical beauty of a midevil setting. I was genuinely impressed with the multitude of elegant sets and costumes that placed the characters in this haunting, yet firm reality. The costumes, on the other hand, were something to behold. The coats of arms, the shimmering silver plates, the slebder dresses--every day was a field day for midevil fashion designers!
But what truly brings the film to life is the startling performance by h_fincharrio, nearly eclipsing her emotional role in Cleopatra. She had me at the brink of tears during the powerful scene where llara placed Matthew in the river. It was a breathtaking performance, and I hope it doesn't go unnoticed in the modern TMO community.
"Empire" still isn't perfect, though. There are a few things that grossly interrupt the elegance of the production. First of all, the initial love scene between Aegis and Llara is beautifully written, but you mistakenly left the sound effects on. This created irritating "Aaaahs" and "Oooos" between the two lovers, which slaughtered the otherwise wonderful scene. Also, you made a common error by not switching up camera shots on the "knife fight" scene. We've all seen the shot played thousands of times before, so creating intriguing angles and switching shots more often keeps things fresh and entertaining.
Despite a few petty flaws, I marveled at the exceptional quality of "Empire." It's a film that I was proud to be a part of, and hope I may be of assistance on Part 2. Andy, this film solidifies you as one of TMO's brightest and best new directors. You're on your way to creating a studio..."Empire!"
Wow Andy, I can't believe I was missing out on such a great series! Empire part one was a very good movie. I love all the characters, you really did a nice job on developing them and showing a little background behind them. The costumes were amazing and nicely done. Plot was excellent and couldn't have been told better. It was a well thought one and it was surely a wonderful beginning chapter in the series. All the mods were good and love how you opened the movie up by showing inside the kingdom. Awesome overlays and good backgrounds. Music was good and really felt the entire mood of the film. VO's were good but heard some pops here and there, nothing big. Editing was solid, very well done. This is one of my favorite movies I've seen and I can't wait until I watch the other 3. Great work Andy and I'll be off to see the other parts soon!
It's taken me a while to come to this movie but it was worth the wait. A classically told tale of prophecies and evil portents, very well made and finely crafted. Great acting and good pacing keeps the story on an upward arc and the soundtrack is suitably grand and dramatic.
The script takes its time to develop background and atmosphere, and while there are some moments of repetition that tend to slow the thrust of the plot it is nonetheless involving and complete.
A great fantasy feature that has enormous scope and promises an exciting ride.
Hello Andy!
I like story of this child which is danger. It's a real pleasure to follow the storyline and the characters of the movie. You made great job on the mods and the costumes...whaou, you have very well retextured it. Good job on the overlays and backdrops too. Just one thing, the use of camera isn't always good, but it's not very disturbing.
Music was nice too, good work. I'm going to watch the next part.
A FREDTHEDUCK REVIEW
Whee! I finally saw Empire, and I was not disappointed!
Plot: 18/20 - great use of just about everything there was use of. I did enjoy it a lot, and I especially loved how the baby fitted in so well with the plot. I didn't see any huge plotholes, although i could not quite understand why she let the baby go down the river instead of running away with it. Maybe it had something to do with me being skyped during that scene. . .
Originality: 5/5 - 'nuff said
Predictability: 14/15 - Well, I didn't see the parents deaths coming, but other than that, I had no time topredict anything because skype was beeping at me the whole time. Why is it you only get skyped when you're trying to do something? Or is that just me?hmmm. . . .
VOs: 12/15 - heard a few mic pops, but otherwise they were great
Custom content: 10/10 - =O
Editing: 12/15 - other than the opening sequence, which was slightly jerky - no complaints at all.
music/sfx 9/10 - good. (Fred is too lazy to type more)
The "wow" factor: 9/10 - impressive stuff, andy!
TOTAL: 89% - 5 stars
And look forward to more half-assed reviews on the following parts from me soon!
Ok the story was good, but it's only an adaptation of the story of moise in fact.
The best point of this movie is the Voice, the actors made a really really good job.
Now there is a lot of mistake, like wrong backdrop sometimes or else. And with the Add on you could made some better freecam shot. I think that that was really poor...the talking moment could be better with different angle, and the sword battle could win in "beauty" and speed, with better angle and editing.
Well, I'll watch part 2 as soon as I have time.
Except all that, I had a good moment. Good movie, almost a 5 star movie but because of all I said before I can only give it 4.
A good story with excellent (memorable) overlay work (the "down the river" shot springs to mind). Well chosen shots and angles throughout.
This one had to "come from behind" though ... it plummeted to 3 stars in the opening scene, which was like watching a movie sat next to two people having sex in the chair next to you! The ingame "loving" scene "dialogue" overpowered what the actors were doing by some margin - but fortunately, this was the only scene in the film which suffered from this. Nevertheless - my advice for Part 2 stands - best to manually put in ALL sound effects to avoid that kind of nonsense and switch off the ingame ones. It's more work, but it's honest work! And it delivers much better results.
But this was, overall, an excellent opener to this fantasy saga.
Wonderfully executed story! Although the plot slightly resembled the story of Moses, it was very unique in a number of ways. Very good climax, the deaths of the two in the end were surprising and added to the overall experience. Great set up for part two.
All the voice-actors present are phonomenal, and do a fantastic job for each of their respective roles in settting the film's spectacular atmosphere. You get major points for effort and quality. This was clearly a well thought out production. Your use of music is very good, and the VOs show a lot of emotion, which is a must in a story of this sort.
You lose one star from 5, because of one problem: Attention to detail. Some of the customes are inappropriate of the time. Too many of the phrases used by the characters are modern-day phrases, rather than the time's lingo (though there are exceptions). The same goes for some of the accents, which are inconsistent. The inclusion of the game's voices detracted from several scenes, especially the first. Last but not in any way least, I'd expect you to credit the authors of the music you've taken from Newgrounds, rather than just the site itself, either in the subtitles or in the text accompanying it. It's not okay to just use their music and keep them anonymous.
All in all - good job, but use more attention to detail, perhaps do a little research or read a few relevant novels to get the feel of it. You will find the quality of the next part greatly improved if you do.
Another film I've watched and not reviewed... seems difficult to really comment on the film after a fourth viewing. [Most in the time reading your script]
A lot of your best elements came from mods, but you still really crafted a story that is worth the effort.
Empire, when it was released and now, has restored the Fantasy genre to TMO's charts.
An excellent medi-eval movie Andy! I loved it! It was so great. The story-line was very good and it had a good pace. All the characters were believable and well developed. The found the cast to be excellent, postmodernchuck, skarsten, etc, excellent choices. The music was fab. I loved the way you used the animated overlays, they really added effect to the film. The mods were excellent too and added the extra bit of realism to this medieval world you created! Bravo on that!!!
The editing was very good, well executed. This was a very enjoyable movie, that I throughly enjoyed.
I am very sorry, but, I don't think the film is that successful, too many talking and I didn't like the subtitles for the main titles at the beginning.
For lack of better words, that was brilliant. The voice acting was amazing, and the plot - though based off the Moses bible story i'm assuming - was great and it really put a medevil twist to the story.
There was one error tho. When Ilara was talking at one part, the background behind her was a city background, so watch out for that.
Other then that, it was amazing. I can't wait to see part 2!
I thought it was good in all aspects, but the script was somewhat inadequete for a movie of such scale. I have been here at TMO since the end of 2005 and am no longer awed by modded sets a titles. I did like the way it was put together, I was just rather disappointed with the actual storyline that seemed to drag on. This Movie has a Great story that takes place in the Mid Evil days and the soundtrack and soundeffects hold to the time period PERFECTLY! The scene editing is done very well, though some scenes were used too much in duration with each other but the camera work done here is SOLID and keeps the story moving along smoothly! The costumes used in this Movie hold to the story in every scene and are Fabulous! Some POWERFULL VOICE ACTING is felt in this Movie in nearly everyscene and the VO's are clear for the most part!
I am really on the fence about this film. The story isn't really tha original and it was that entertaining. A lot of the sets seemed overused in this movie and also, the voice overs were not the best. However, I did see a lot of time put into this film. So after some long hard thought I give it five stars.
GREETING FROM L.M.A.O. STUDIOS!
An epic adventure THAT ROCKS!
THE GOOD: Skarsten is by far our favorite actor in the wondrous film. The script was fantastic, the dialog was realistic and mature. The mods carried this movie further, but the story is the real backbone of this amazing film! The pan-in on the basket was a great touch and added additional realism to the film. Most of the acting was realistic and enjoyable. We were very impressed by editing and cinematography as well.
THE BAD: Some of the actors line were poorly acted and/or recorded. Its the filmmakers responsibility to send the badly recorded takes back for re-recordeding. The somewhat remake of the story of Moses takes some of the originality from this film away, which nearly cost a star. However, original dialog and story broke away from the original tale and saved the interest.
Overall a great film with minor flaws, that I??m sure will be worked out in the sequel. Very spot on and brilliant filmmaking. We look forward to the next installment!
What an ambitious Tale to tell...Excellent Acting, music, and a wonderful use of mods.... and a truely epic story... its a shame that the direction left me flat... Overuse of the same camera angles and scenes and that over used sword fight that a creative director would have juggled different camera shots to make it intresting. There was so much possiblity with the Most excellent sets that I cant understand why you didnt use them to great effect. Even the Opening Panning shot of the Village was made boring by the overfly that focused the attention on the Road rather than the village...
Great Movie...Poor Direction
you get 4 stars...
The costuming for the men is superbe, the set retextures were very nice (I really liked the bedroom one). The script was well thought out however I thought the long scenes of dialogue really could have been carried by adding more music. Kudos to Skarsten for a really nice VO, good emotional delivery! Nice effect of the basket...creative! Looking forward to Part 2 ! ===K4===
I enjoyed that piece of work by you very much. If anything, I'd say to use more freecam during the convesational parts to put a little bit of spice in your dialogue you know? Acutally though, you did a very good job. Use of overlays and backdrops was absolutely incredible. Even your set dressings were top notch. Good film Andy! Excellent job. 5 stars indeed.
***MoMc Review***
Well, well, well, what an adventure. This movie displays some clever and effective new overlays and mods as well as executes an intruiging story that has some similarities to a well known biblical story. The reason for nt 5 stars is I felt there were some pacing issues, and althoughthe VOs were good not all of them really were well acted.
There was some great moments of this film. I enjoyed the story which was original, and intense (I just hope we don't see the parting of the red sea in part 3). The mods were well used and not overused, and the music was well fitted although I do wish there was some more of it. H_fincharrio obviously steals the show with her fabulous performance, but Skarsten also delivers very well acted VOs. The others were good, but those two were reall top quality.
As for the not-so-goods of the film. I felt it had a bit too much melodrama, and not all of it waas genuine enough. The thing that really got me though is the opening scene. I really don't know why you added in those orgasmic giggles while they were having a serious and heartfelt conversation.
Overall, I nicely made medieval flm, that I just didn't connect with as much as I'd have liked to.
MoMc score: 4.3
I must say, this film has renewed my faith in this type of genre evry being made right here on TMO! I really enjoyed this film and thought it was a very good first entry to this series. Your use of mods and effects was excellent, and the overall story arc was very, very well done. It has egreat ending, and it really makes you want to know what'll happen next.
But there were a few things that did trouble me about this movie. First was the VO. At times it was some of the best I've heard. Then at other times it was some the worst. The voices just didn't fit the some of the characters. I hope this is something you'll work on in the future. Because if you get a great solid voice cast. It'll make this whole series ten times better! The other key areas that bugged me was the shots and editing. Now don't get me wrong. The pace was solid, and some shots were really well done. But man, that fight scene could of used some tweaking. I feel shots like that really need to up close and personal...
Again, this was a killer film. And it looks to be a very good, epic series. Just few tweaks here and there will really kick this series into over drive, and make it a true classic! - 4 stars
Okay, first things first - congratz on this achievement, we all know how this game can be sometimes, but you've done alot on the technical side of things and produced a movie that is gripping and easy to watch :D
However, the script doesn't seem to flow to me, i dont know maybe i have the sceptical mind of an actor so I look for perfection. The words seem contrived and the way the voice acting cuts through the sound is often obvious, you should try to record after you have the film done, so you can record it all at once, so there isn't that muffled sound you get off a microphone coming and going and its less noticable.
but that said thats just technical problems, this is the best movie here, in my opinion and congratz on such an epic story, as many film companies spend millions and execute it worse than you did!
I don't think you know just how much i loved that.... that was 16 minutes of
the best film in this community.
there are films like these that take years to do, and don't come around very often. But simply by a magic of one game "The Movies". You give everybody reasons for this game to exist.
It was nicely done, infact incredibly done. It wasn't one of those movies that got to the top because of its stars.....
~~~~ It got to the top because it was a great story and filled with passion ~~~~

You inspire me and should certainly inspire everyone else... that has sence.lol

Awesome movie! You must have worked hard on this movie. the setdressing andx mods was very impressive, it created the right setting for the movie. the story was intriguing even though you borrorwed parts from a lot of other stories. the only thing that bothered me was some of the in-game sounds, like in the beginning when the parents were talking on the bed.
overall this was a great movie, and I look forward to seeing how the story unfolds :)

A good medievil film

Nice music and dialogue. the set dressing was good. The prop emplacement (the sword of Seth-the talk scene) could of been adjusted, but maybe it couldnt. SOme good drama at the end. I got to stay a good thrill ride Andy.

5/5 from me

The narative of Moses and Egypt as set to a midevil backdrop...

Sound: 5 of 5, Although the in game fx distracted from the opening scene it was flawless afterward and the musical score set the tone for the movie very well.

Dialogue: 4 of 5, the dialogue was well done but not consistant with the time period through out the movie.

Editing: 5 of 5, only twice did i find editing glitches and both were quite minor.

Story: 3 of 5, As i mentioned in the opening sentence the song is the same but the dance is interesting.

Visuals: 5 of 5, the use of mods in this movie was stunning...

Total 22/25= 4.4/5

Ow my eyes hurt! The movie took 16 mins of my life... but 16 mins of my life which were well worth using,

That, in my opinion, was exceptional. The overlays, freecam and backdrop were what really made my mouth drop. The scenery was beautiful.

this movie will go into my hotpick considerations.

thank you for this pleasure.

i Hve been looking forward to this film for some time, and in some areas it didnt disappoint. the voice acting was sound and well delivered, and the modded content that was used allowed a medieval world to be created

(nice how you used my knight and retextured the breast plate btw)

the area which seemed to let it down was the actual script, it all seemed a bit 'twee' i never felt any concern for the characters or the importance of the child that was born. I'm imagining that these are core ingredients to care about for the second part as i imagine that child will have grown up and master a sword of some description.

i think this element should really be worked on as it did everything to destroy what all your other features had done so well - to create a believable world.

overall not bad film at all, and im still keeping faith with it as i hope the second episode will really get going

Not a bad medeival movie, just turn off the mumbling, that would be a great start. And more careful prop placment would make for a more realistic village, otherwise, ok.

Buffalo... Bill?
A-anyway, this was a pretty good movie, but there were a few VOs that threw me off.
There was the voice of Ilara, who was pretty good until she started panicking when she was told about the babies and the killing. The voice turned way too exagerating... it was annoying considering that her voice kept getting annoyingly high. I almost popped out of my seat the first few times, and my brother was in the room, so I was afraid he'd turn around and go "what was that?" And then there was the voice of Seth, which was so un-enthusiastic he sounded like a robot.
Either way, the plotline was solid, and the freecam was sort of good, but there was a somewhat disinterest during the later parts. Overall, this was a great film, and I'll check out part two if I get a chance to.

A familliar sounding story.

I do like the way this has been set up. The mideval mods look good. Some of the Vos did not fit in with the others so well. The battle damage can be seen and is a nice touch.

Fantastic, Nuketastic infact!! This was entertaining from start to finish. Great Use of VO's and Excellent Acting! The ranges of the emotions were highly noticable and came across really realistic. I thought you managed to portray the story very well with a good setting and pace. Props and Scenery made this film a breathing world to witness and the music was chosen well. Great Editting and Direction with ingenous use of overlays to keep everything looking fresh and believable.

I would say this is definetly your flagship. You have managed to drop my jaw and make me want more, I long for part 2 now. Great Job and I wish you every success with this film and it's sequel.

Great work Andy, you've created a TMO epic...

Great SFX and loads and loads of brilliant mods some scenes which seemed impossible too, like gathering the baby and holding the large sword, emotional story too...

BTW it was funny at the beginning when she was making orgasm sounds whilst he talked about his dead father...

Definitely top-notch work here Andy.
The story is simply fantastic and is backed up by outstanding VO's most notably H_fincharrio. Although this film is mostly brilliant, there were a few flaws. At parts, it seemed a little rough around the edges. Some of the camera work was a little bland in areas like the knife fight scene. We have seen that seen so many times and to have the camera in one position did not work. Experiment with the camera and find new, unique shots. The dialogue was top-notch, something I have trouble with in my films.

Overall: Great job on this Andy. You certainly put a good effort into this and it paid off. Congratulations!

Excellent use of mods (sets, costumes, props, backdrops, etc) and filmmaking techniques (freecam, etc) and audio (VO's, music, sound FX) to deliver a powerful story. Yes, it would have been a lot different without all the fancy doodads; but, it was the story and the powerful acting of that story that carried the film all the way to the finish line. Without such great writing or acting, it's just a lot of flash; but, you all provided us with real substance here for one terrific story and film. Simply excellent.

=====Alert: May contain spoliers=====

A truly fantastic film you have here Andy. Exciting, full of action, and very sad. I feel sorry for the baby's mother and father dieing. The story was excellent, and well written. I really loved the backdrops, and overlays. very professional. The VO's were great, and easy to hear. Kudos to you for choosing good music for this film, as it sets the mood very well.

The editing was great, and I loved your use of costumes.

The only thing I found distracting though, as MGM put it, was the Oohs, and Ahhs, in the beggining of the film.

Good work! 5 stars!

Film on!

Excellent work on the story and directing. Very watchable and very likable. The only problem I would have was the opening scene. All the oohs, ahhs, and grunts made it hard to hear the dialogue and made me wonder what kind of movie I was watching. Other than that, an awesome job.

Fantastic Andy! Simply fantastic! You did a stunning job on this film, from the begining to the end you never stopped amazing me! The intro of this film, is the one part that I think deserves the most attention, as it is flawlessy done with great detail which is not often very easy to do. The music, although there was not very much of it was well suited to the genre as well as the film. The Voice Acting was fantastic, except for the fact that at the end of the film when Isolde's brother talks, his voice has almost no emotion in it. Which made the end feel a little bit lacking.

Aside from that, the rest of the film was a fantastic work of art. Certaintly worthy of various film awards and simply an outstanding job. It is easy to tell how much work and effort you put in this film, thank you very much for telling me about it and giving me the oppurtunity to view such a fantastic film. Simply 5 out of 5 Stars, again fantastic effort and I look forward to reviewing your sequel to this film.

An epic tale unfolds. Borrowing from the story of Moses it takes its time in the telling but never flags or seems slow. Wonderful voice work by the stars and H_finnochiaro shines in her role and again shows her talents off to perfection. She is indeed one of our finest actresses today on TMO.
A solid screenplay full of fine character shading is the foundation for this film. Incredible opening in the credits give the film a sweeping feel but after that it felt set bound within the castle. I would have liked to have seen some transition shots that showed the location of new scenes. Beautiful if spare score was a fine addition and set the tone of the time and place. One thing that was a great distraction were the in game oohs and ahhs in the opening scene that cut into the dialog.
Overall a very fine beginning to what promises to be a wonderful story.

WOW. Fantasy is back.

The Cons first: the errors people mentioned and the brick building wall in one scene. When Ilara was fine then suddenly broke out in tears and no scene change was bad too. But I didn't have a problem with any of the VO's.

The Pros: Everything else. The mods alone were 5 star worthy, plus the story and get VA's made this an awesome first part of a amazing series!

WOW...this story was indeed amazing! This was an unbelievably excellent script. Awesome vo's by an all-star cast of voice actors & actresses. The music was awesome and very well selected. In fact, I don't think you coulda pulled off such an excellent film without it. I thought the editing was very very good, and the custom sets, costumes, props, drops & lays worked to perfection. The only problem I found was that some of the vo's weren't evened out in terms of volume, but that's not abnormal.

You have emerged into a fine young filmmaker, who keeps getting better and better with each film. I can see so many awards in the future for this movie. You've got my vote and my support. I'm happy to say you've made me proud!
I welcome this movie to my bookmarks...well done!

my ratings:
script: 6 stars (you get a bonus star)
music & sound fx: 5 stars
editing: 5 stars
custom (sets, drops, lays, etc): 5 stars
vo's: 5 stars
genre effectiveness: 5 stars
overall: 5.16 stars

Great introduction to your Empire series! Great use of overlays and modding especially in the opening title sequence. The mumbling was annoying in the first couple scenes. It's a shame there isn't more knife fighting scenes to expand upon. But you did well in that effort. I await the next part eagerly.

Empire is beautifully scored - the music suits the film perfectly, especially during the swordfight. The camerawork is also fairly inspired, although a little jumpy in places.

The majority of the voice actors did quite well, especially that fellow who played Mortimus. Such pathos! Such emotion! And Ilara - one of the other reviewers mentioned she'd been in Cleopatra, and here I can see why. Easily one of the best three voice actresses I've heard so far on TMO. The river effects were nice, too.

So why isn't this a five-star film? Well, the technical errors that would be excusable in small quantity are out in force; the oohs and ahs during the love scene, the looping dialogue talks (you have to mix up the shots on lengthy dialogues so they don't look forced), the floating sword (would have been a great effect if the character's hand didn't move away from it in mid-speech), and most importantly... Ilara's scene in the bedroom. Here you have a woman in hysterics about to give up her firstborn son, and while her voice says "I'm freaking out", she's standing still, quietly rocking her son. They just didn't match.

An ambitious effort for a drama - especially from one who's mostly done action films thus far. The good news is, all of the flaws I pointed out are easily correctable - so a little more attention to detail and part two will be a definite bit of five-star work.

good job!

Is this signaling the revival of the fantasy genre on TMO? A polished introduction lead us into the first scene. But some unintentional chuckling sounds broke the mood right there. The dialogue is occasionally entertaining ?? such as a discussion about ??a smell in the air?? propelling the story forward.

The mods are perfectly used to recreate a medieval-like environment. Good music choise as well. The actors do a solid job, although for some of the female characters at times the acting felt too exhagerated and the pronunciation a bit slurred.

Once the freshness of seeing a fantasy story started to wear off towards the middle I began to feel a little bit of RPG-fatigue, but I think the story still managed to keep my interest. I think the dialogue and acting was considerably stronger with the male cast. When the two women were talking to each other, it felt a bit fake.

Nice action sequences towards the end of the movie were the best fantasy-themed scenes I had seen in a long long time on TMO, since Arawna was around. This rating was a toss-up for me between 4 and 5 stars. I guess it averaged up.

From the first inspiring, epic fly-over above the quaint midevil village, I knew "Empire" was a treasure to behold. After that, I was certainly not disappointed. The poetic landscape and illustrious characters brought the film to life, and an astounding script made for an appealing, rich story. So far, it is an achievement to behold...a masterwork in the art of TMO filmmaking.

The entire atmosphere of "Empire" is magnificent. Andy, you have an incredible eye for pinpointing the stoical beauty of a midevil setting. I was genuinely impressed with the multitude of elegant sets and costumes that placed the characters in this haunting, yet firm reality. The costumes, on the other hand, were something to behold. The coats of arms, the shimmering silver plates, the slebder dresses--every day was a field day for midevil fashion designers!

But what truly brings the film to life is the startling performance by h_fincharrio, nearly eclipsing her emotional role in Cleopatra. She had me at the brink of tears during the powerful scene where llara placed Matthew in the river. It was a breathtaking performance, and I hope it doesn't go unnoticed in the modern TMO community.

"Empire" still isn't perfect, though. There are a few things that grossly interrupt the elegance of the production. First of all, the initial love scene between Aegis and Llara is beautifully written, but you mistakenly left the sound effects on. This created irritating "Aaaahs" and "Oooos" between the two lovers, which slaughtered the otherwise wonderful scene. Also, you made a common error by not switching up camera shots on the "knife fight" scene. We've all seen the shot played thousands of times before, so creating intriguing angles and switching shots more often keeps things fresh and entertaining.

Despite a few petty flaws, I marveled at the exceptional quality of "Empire." It's a film that I was proud to be a part of, and hope I may be of assistance on Part 2. Andy, this film solidifies you as one of TMO's brightest and best new directors. You're on your way to creating a studio..."Empire!"

A brilliant story, well played out and put together indeed. It was truly gripping. Some of the overlay and prop effects were amazing. My only problem had to be the editing, on the fight scene in patricular. The constantly static camera didn't really make for tense viewing. Some of the the talking scenes were just back and forth, and a little repetetive.

Still, perfect everything else.

How cool!! Great job portraying every scene perfectly. I loved the voice overs (except the crazy lady fortune teller), every line was clear and brought out the story. But yes, The story. This movie has to be my favorite work done yet by you because it focuses on a greatly developed story, that sets up all the characters and it gives you options to think about what might happen in the future parts. I think you have started this series off very well and I hope to see you finish it. I will be watching for the next installments.
