I??ve never seen the Night Stalker series, but I have seen enough 60??s and 70??s cinema to see some of the influences here. This was a great overall detective-style story, with a rich atmosphere set by the music and narration. I liked just about everything here, with the possible exception of the questionable ending.

Voice acting doesn??t affect my ratings, but I did want to mention a few things. The voice characterizations you managed to give were excellent ?? I could barely tell they were all you. The only occasionally iffy thing for me was the narration, which sometimes felt less enthusiastic than I would have expected. But perhaps that cool, collected voice was part of what you were going for.

Overall enjoyment: 31/35. Only the ending brought this down for me a little. That red gasoline container stood out like a sore thumb when he walked past it, making it not only very obvious where this was headed, but also a little too convenient. Other than this, I found this film to be very enjoyable!

Editing: 26/30. The overall flow of the story is excellent. Scene selection and flow is solid through the majority of the film, with a few minor details I??d like to point out in my suggestions area. Convenience of the gasoline container aside, the scuffle in the subway tunnel did come across a bit awkward to me.
Music was very well chosen and composed. Having it play in the background did a lot to set the atmosphere of this flick. You worked around the sound effects nicely. Voice-overs always came through clearly. I did, however, detect a fair bit of *snap* noises when each recording ended.

Production Value: 14/15. Great work with the costumes, and some pretty good prop usage. Set dressing felt a little bit thin here. The overlay work on both the titles and during the film itself were great here.

Characters: 10/10. Great characters here, that made for some fun moments.

Dialog: 10/10. Great dialog that is very reminiscent of the genre and period.

Total: 91/100.

5 stars!

My suggestions: I mentioned some things in the editing category that I??d like to bring up here.
The way a few scenes come to an end, and then immediately run to the next scene, was a slight distraction for me. Scene changes can be handled a couple of ways.
In one case, you did it well: after the scene in the library, the camera lingers on Carl for an extra second; and then you pass the camera through the city for a few seconds. This gives the audience a few seconds to absorb what he??s just been told.
In one example where it distracted me: after the officer chases off Carl, there??s a fade out, but no fade in to the scene with the next victim on the subway car.
I think part of what you were fighting with here is the game bugs related to fades. It mixes them up when you reload your movie after doing some edits. Make setting the fades the last step after you??ve finished cutting the film. Also consider including a shot between each scene that??s just black for a second or so. You can achieve that either using an overlay, or by using the ??Static?? scene on the Stage and having the camera point off the set into blackness.
Related to the voice recordings, I suspect you did some amount of editing already in Audacity or another external sound program, because I didn??t detect any humming noises. Remember to also eliminate the brief *snap* noises at the beginning and end of each recording.

A piece of TMO Cinema we cannot disregard, as well as an Instant Classic among the ranks of Cleopatra, Into the Shadow, and all the other films on my -PawPrint- list. You've receive my award for excellent I deliver upon directors so rarely, I lost the graphic.

Lets start out, epic... My favorite part about this film was your voice acting, well done, you drive the film forward and never look back. The unique connection between voice and script allows for the perfect connection of emotion and the unlocking of characterization and motivation. You conquered some of the most difficult parts of TMO Moviemaking... in the first few minutes.

On to what I loved. The whole film. Honestly, rarely was I able to pull away, or let go. You used some of the limits of the game to your advantage, and danced around any others.

Usually, I spend the bulk of my review picking apart of a film, rarely do these leave me without a word to type. My only comment, is that somewhere around "9:20" you have a good sequence, but the music is a bit soft and without voice overs the true tension is lost. Another comment, is a ditto of Mefune, who mentioned the quality of the music being a little bit off.

Overall, 5 stars, -PawPrint-, and I must also congratulate you on your awards of a Hotpick and MOMC... both are well deserved. You've been added to my personal Hall of Fame.

You're award for MOMC is well deserved, Hotpick too!

***MOMC Review***

Smart, sophisticated, and brimming over with both style and substance, The Night Hunter plays homage to the supernatural hokum of old television serials while giving the tired old genre a new postmodern spin. Crackling with cool, clever dialogue and characters who infuse the narrative with a nice little spark, the movie plays into the typical horror conventions while bringing something new and unique to the forefront.

The character of the Night Hunter was an exceptionally fun character, full of exploitative sleaze yet herioc in his own ambiguous way. That he undertakes this mystery partially for profit and partially for "the good of humanity" (whatever that means) makes him a very complex, yet likable character, and from this we're glued to the screen because he's just so cool and charismatic --- and compulsively watchable. His voice characterization was spot-on and absolutely killer.

The mystery was fun and spooky... though a little predictable at times -- and yes, the coincidences were a little alarming at the end. But that doesn't detract much from what I feel is an exceptional horror classic.

All in all, this was an exceptional journey, and I am very glad this seemingly small film is getting the praise and accolades it deserves.

GREETINGS FROM L.M.A.O STUDIO!

The best detective film of 2007!

THE GOOD: The dialog was amazing in this film. Loved the play by play narration from the investigating reporter. The chemistry interactions between characters was excellence! Realistic and clear voice overs were the backbone of this horror thriller. The script itself was believable and VERY reminiscent to the classic horror thrillers of old. The plot and climax of the script worked very well and left the viewer wanting more. The sound effects were a marvel to listen to. Each scene emulated with excellent ambience. The music fit each scene and elevated the mood. The editing was top notch as well.

THE BAD: Some of the music seemed it was recorded right from a tv set. There were some minor V.O. flaws, but our only big disappointment was the lack of actual scary moments.

SUGGESTIONS ON FUTURE PROJECTS: More scary moments ( For horror genre). Use your audio program to fade-in before the dialog and fade-out after to smooth out the transition "clicks" between dialog.

An amazing accomplishment!

Winner of THE AKIRA AWARD OF EXCELLENCE!

Story: 11/10 A wonderful plot that had many twists and turns. I really wanted to see how it ended. I was interested the entire movie and I never wanted it to stop!

Music: 5/5 The music was well selected. It really suited the atmosphere. It was a little quiet now and then, but other then that it worked!

VO/Subs: 10/10 VO's were outstanding. You did an excellent job. Considering you did all the VO's I was glad you were able to make you voice different enough each time.

Script: 5/5 Script was good. It wasn't super special, but it helped make the movie!

Extras: 6/5 Great freecam. Mods were used well, and all in all you had a good film!

Editing: 15/15 The movie was just the right length. It had good scene choice and good scene transition! I really enjoyed myself. Great job!

Final Score: 52/50

****MoMc Review****
If your goal was to capture the excitement and feel of the classic "Night Stalker" series, you have succeeded, and then some. This is a very well-executed horror mystery thriller and I congratulate you for your accomplishment.

Technically this was very well done, especially considering the challenge of presenting this without the use of mods, custom backdrops or overlays (with the exception of the blood splat). The camera use and edits was great-- especially during the finale struggle climax. The choice and timing of the sound effects also enhanced this movie nicely.

In regards to the story presentation, I had to smile when I saw the opening sequence which closely mirrors the original TV series' opening. Good job there. The narration was brilliantly written and also captures the orignal show's atmosphere and style. I have to mention the dialogue was absolutely of professional quality (especially the lines "I think a newspaper is missing a jackass", and "..or so help me the corpse will be having company.") Those touches really enhance the quality of the film and enhances the entertainment experience tremendously.

The only thing missing in the storyline is a motive. (Spoiler Alert)The reasoning for the killing and I presume eating spree is never revealed nor even hinted at. In addition, it is never mentioned why and how this particular corpse was reanimated (just disturbing his coffin doesn't seem to be enough). I appreciated the inclusion of the expert who provides our protagonist with the information needed to defeat this supernatural adversary, but I think it would also be a great opportunity for you to mention or at least hint at who this corpse was, why he is now running amok, and why he needs to rip out throats. A little backstory would go a long way in this instance.

Overall, this was very entertaining film with a style and charm all its own. Qtigger has once again proven that he's a talent to watch, and I truly look forward to his next production.

MoMc Score 4.7 (rounded up to 5 stars).

Very well done. The editing and the narration is tight, not much slack here. Voiceovers are solid, and a good noir feel seeps into this investigation. I guess the story itself doesn't come across as horror, but as a pure detective story it works fine. The camerawork is not bad at all, either!

THe music got a little bit repetitive, although it was effective at first. But the sound effects could have been enhanced, especially if the horror aspect of it was to be emphasized.

I think the dialogue was very well written, and quite witty at places. But the plot wasn't exactly arresting or gripping. Nevertheless you did a great job. This is very enjoyable.

my absolute favorite show from the 70's. i was like 16 when this show was on the tv. i looked very forward to watching this movie.

you followed the formula to the T. you showed the crime, you had the cops hating him. you showed his boss trying to get him to cover a normal story. (i always wondered why that boss never believed him, seeing as every week he found another monster. just like skinner in the x-files, but even he finally came around.) and, of course, the fact that there was NO EVIDENCE that anything supernatural ever happened.

my critiques are these: karl wasn't 'frumpy' enough. his suit was too clean, fit too well, he was too young, and too nice looking. and the end was wrapped up a little too easily. it was 'deus ex gascan'. the equivelant of the cavalry showing up just in time to save the day. i mean, what was that gas can doing in the subway, anyway?? it almost killed it for me, but then i realized, i was watching a cartoon, for pete's sake, so i stopped complaining and let the story (and my childhood memories of excellent night stalker episodes) take me away.

nice work. again, i can't be too brutal on this one, it was a perfect way to spend ten minutes.

Directing: 5/5- very good!
Script: 5/5- interesting and somewhat unusual.
Sound: 5/5- no complains!
Genre fit: 5/5- a very light horror film, but still it is a good one.
Fun: 5/5- the fact it wasn't a really serious movie made it so good!
Overall: 5 stars!

Back in the 70's I would not have missed an episode of the Night Stalker. This film follows the Night Stalker format pretty well. Very impressive. A nice reflection back on T.V.'s good old days.

Finally had a chance to sit and enjoy this feature.
I was a big fan of the Kolchak series(I have the DVD collection :o)! I must say you captured the character of Carl Kolchak very well. His dress, old camera and manerisms. You even stuck to the story setup and sequences used in the show. I actually thought I was watching a lost episode!
Where was his straw hat?! I was a little diappointed in that. :(

Ah nostalgia...I'm probably going to watch a couple of the original episodes because of this movie. Kolchak the original X-files...

*** SPOILER BELOW ***
The gas can was a little convienient and predictable. I would have enjoyed watching him bumble around more with his "great plan" to stop the creature.

That was an excellent movie. I don't know if I would call it a horror movie though, while I was watching it, I was thinking "Is this more comedy or action"? More action 'duh'. The main character was very believable, although I wouldn't ever go down there without a weapon, am I right?. P.S. It was a bit predictable considering that oil was out in the open.

This is probably one of the best horrors to hit TMO. I liked how this movie was not all scary and jumpy throughout the movie-you had a good concept that had a good ending to the story. You did a really good job of basing it on the old series. Great job and keep movie-making!

Well.... first I will say that this movie is by far the best horror on TMO right now. I really enjoyed it, a very interesting/engaging storyline was going on. Your timing/pacing was excellent, it felt like this was the right length and didn't seem to drag on or anything like that. I also liked how you put in quite a few different genres in here, action, drama, comedy! I love that because then the movie is more enjoyable, there were quite a few scenes which gave me a little chuckle.
I think if a film-maker can cross-genres in a very entertaining horror flick and still do it well, that he/she is very intelligent/clever to do so.
The cast was spot-on and very unique. They fitted all their roles and did a bravo job. The music was great. Top job on that. Nice overlays. Cool work.
The editing was perfect and was very professional. No problems in the editing what so ever. I thought the ending was very clever. Good use of flashbacks!
I also really enjoyed the ending, god, that was intense.
I will also end by saying that the opening narration was perfect and really gave a nice intro into what the film would be about.
I enjoyed this movie from start to finish. And I was so hooked to see how it would end. Great effort dude. By far the best horror on TMO right now.
Fine work indeed. Well worth a good watch if you like to jump a bit and to be entertained. Nice job!!!!

This is technichally one of the most accomplished movies i have seen, every part of it is of the highest quality. Right from the VOs to the music to the editing. However the biggest acheivement is it's enjoyability, i just plain enjoyed this. The classic thriller feel is highly prominent throughout and while there aren't many noteworthy stand out scary moments, if you take this movie as it was intended you will not be dissapointed. Very enjoyable and very well made.

I really enjoyed this movie. A couple things bogged it down, though, keeping it from a 5.

For one, there was no real music to it. There was music, but it had no effect.

Two, for a horror movie, there was really no horror. No diguisting moments or anything. Maybe it would have been better suited in action.

Three, the reason the undead guy starts attacking people is never really explained. Sure, his coffin was disturbed, but that dosen't really feel like reason enough.

I did like the whole vibe the movie had going, though. I'd enjoy to see a sequal. Good luck on your movies!

I just wanted to say that it was this film that got me back into The Movies. Your voice overs were great, with very few bad spots, which I could fill the gaps, it got my attention. It was backed with a solid story and rememerable characters. It looks like you had alot of fun putting this togethor, and thats exactly what I wanted to get back into. Even though my film has no relation to this genre, I had to get back into the movies. This film is very enjoyable to watch. Look forward to more from you.

Cheers

Ok, i give this a 3.5, but seeing that we cant give half scores i will round it off to the nearest. So it gets a 4.
It is labelled as a horror, but i didnt find too much of this horrifying at all, actually after looking at the movie poster i was hoping for a chilling movie, but left a little disappointed.
I feel this was more of a detective movie rather than a horror. The scenes with the undead killing machine were not long enough, and didnt build up any suspense whatsoever. It was a quick in and out. I think if you dragged those scenes out a bit you would've got a more chilling feel. However i liked the ending where we see something gliding down the tunnel, leaving the viewer wondering if its still out there. This leaves the movie open for a sequel.
The music really didnt help the horror factor either. As i said before, this movie was really a detective mystery movie. The music didnt feel right under this genre.
The voice overs were also rather flat. No emotion, it was just like someone was reading from cue cards.
There were a few things i liked about this movie. The custom credits were very nice, the voice overs, while no emotion, were still loud, clear and very easy to follow. I also liked the scene where we see the dead girl, but cant see her face/throat. Leaving it to the viewers imagination is sometimes best!
So in the future if you are trying to make a horror movie, focus more on the horror parts. ie, monsters creeping up, that sort of thing.
A well made movie, but for a horror it just didnt cut it.

However well done!

Melon!

It's unusual for a horror made on TMO to build suspense as well as this. The music, narration and free cam really accelerated the story telling. The VOs were beautifully clear and the dialogue was superb. It's not just a horror flick, this is a triumph for the TMO horror scene and thouroughly deserves the awards.

This is the type of movie that should be at the forefront of the TMO greats. However the classic journalist solves the case genre has been absent on our computer screens and you noticed that vital niche my friend.
I have never seen the original Night hunter but its portrayal by you reminded me of many similar TV shows. Now if I leave the genre behind I will comment on the movie. The plot was brilliant, the introduction of your characters was so good I felt like I'd seen these guys over and over.
The music was well chosen and placed, excellently written. It fitted so well with each seen, you hardly noticed it but without it the movie wouldn't have been so good. This is what movie music should do!
The VOs were excellent, you couldn't tell they were all you. The lines fitted well. Surprise was another great thing in this movie, when he said consumed I thought he was going to get a big dog. You also left it on an open thread so you could make another if you felt like it but weren't obliged to do so.
This movie is worth the awards it has won and now the Wackyal3000 award for must see movies. EVERYONE MUST WATCH THIS MOVIE!
I am looking forward to anything you might make in the future.

A great film! The VOs were great, the cinematography was equally great. At times the music was a little too low. I know some people are saying there are no real scary moments, but I don't think this movie needs truly scary moments. It's more than that.

I think the better part of this movie is its plot.
Yes the plot is not at all original in itself, it's just a basic zombie story, but there are some idea interesting and quite funny!

I liked the moment where the reporter remembers the guy in the library, when he is confronted to the zombie, it's like old kung fu japanese film^^

To follow a reporter/detective is a good idea, and quite fresh and original for a basic zombie movie. The little twist at the end is not bad at all!

But first I think you had some little problem with the music during the export, and it's not your fault.

Then, there are NO sound effects in this film, and that causes a lots of problem on this film. There was no atmosphere, It was never scary, never.. Really disappointing, because you have found some nice freecam shooting.

But some ideas have no sense too, like the light who is switched off, it brings nothing to the atmosphere, and I just didn't believe to it, sound effects in these moments are so important.

To finish, I must admit I was not convinced by the main VO, it seems more to belong to a teenager, than to a so cool detective, but all in all this an interesting film, maybe a bit overrated in my opinion, but it has some ideas, and it shows a very good potential for the future!

Good luck qtigger ;-)

Story (10) - A nice storyline that was kinda creepy but had a sort of 30s feel to it, kinda like a gangsta movie except without gangstas...

Originality (8) - I've never seen the original Night Stalker series, so I can't really comment on how it compares to that, but to me it was quite different and refreshing, an rather original.

VOs/Subs (9) - The VOs were perfectly tidy throughout and the dialogue was very good. You kept the story going despite only one character saying 90% of the lines, which was quite an achievement.

Music (8) - You had that same weird song playing throughout. It was kinda samey, but pretty creepy still...It reminded me of clowns for some reason...

Editing (9) - Cannot really criticise you, the scenes were nicely chosen and they was no awkward breaks of silence, seemed tidy enough...

Set Dressing & Props (8) - As I saw the cannister there as he walked by I could tell it was important, and I thought it would at some stage explode, so that was some clever placement, but other than that there wasn't much, which isn't really a problem as the story can continue without miscellaneous extra props...

Camerawork (10) - Brilliant throughout, practically flawless.

Backdrops/Overlays (9) - The opening credits were all done very proffessionally, as was the nice idea of the flashback to what the doctor said. Nice job.

Genre Feel (8) - It tied in reasonably well with the genre of horror, although I wasn't really scared. However there was a lot of tension and suspense created in the build up. Good job.

Mods & That Something Extra (8) - Your something extra comes from your superb poster ((5 marks) The one you posted in my thread), and three marks for the way you created tension, and some solid VOs.

87/100 - That's worthy of 5 stars, good job.

not a bad horrorific...

The Upsides:

The scenery is very nice. Use of Freecam inside the subway station set is very atmospheric.

the plot was cool. Nothing better than a monster in the underground to relate to our innate primitive fears

Mods and SFX were exteremely well. Two thumbs up

the downsides:

VOs - I found them flatter than Nebraska, emotionless... Monotoneous VOs are the very kind of thing that wrecks an otherwise excellent movie. Others may have been more forgiving about it but I'm sorry.. I believe that when you decide to VO a movie you should not settle down for any VA but to pursue the most fitting ones.

The horror (or lack thereof) - This movie isn't really about horror. It didn't horrify me. It didn't make me cringe. It didn't even make me feel disgusted. It was a detective movie with a touch of paranormal... that's all there is to it...

The music - was there any? In movies, the soundtrack can often bring up or tear down your movie. Could you think of Darth Vader without John Williams' "Imperial March"? Of Requiem for a Dream without Marion Barfs' "Winter Overture"? This movie sorely lacks good horror music that would amp what the eyes see...

Overall - A nice thriller that could have been a lot better. I know that fitting music, good VAs and horrifiying atmospheres are hard to produce but you should try

Simply well done.

The Light Side - The film kept me interested throughout it's entirety, despite my personal distaste for the detective style approach. Once the film sunk it's cadaverous claws in, it wouldn't let me go. A nice musical score, which I felt at first was overly subdued. It's relevance was revealed as the film progressed, meshing perfectly with the flow of this piece. Well written, crucial for predominantly monologued I'm thinking. Very well cast, voiced and also at times conversations evoked a sense of mirth.

The Dark Side - Occasionaly I felt the lead was a bit of a pansy, I guess I'm use to nononsense, hard detectives in films that your movie borrows from. It's just the VO, the dialogue is great. The climax wasn't as spectacular as I could of hoped. Maybe amplify the shrieking finale to offset things a little. To be fair though, I'm grabbing for straws here, the movie is of a very high standard.

Flawless in execution and design. Nice work.

~~Citadel Films

Amazing in one word description! Many movies stand out, but this one glows.
-Sound: Lack of potential music.
-Dialog: Excellent views and points of the narrator, I truly felt as if I was listeing to a detective.
-Genre: Scary, but not scary enough. More horror would satsify the viewers needs.
-Climax: I noticed points of climax that sent chills down my bones, and I went and hid under my bed.

~~Overall: Definatly deserves a 5 star rating by any good movie watcher or rater. The night Hunter will petrify any human being into a permenant sorror and horror!

I commend you on a job well done, qtigger. This was a great homage (well, it felt like an homage to me) to the classic detective stories, but this had a great twist. It reminded me of the "Night Stalker" series, which many have mentioned. Your VOs were really great, but, I felt that you could've gotten more people to fill the roles. While you did manage to change their voices up, sometimes they sounded the same and it was hard to distinguish who was talking. Other than this, I say "Great Job!"

Great horror film, the story and the sets just went perfectly together. One thing that struck me early on was why didn't the two other victim's fight back against the corpse? If the narrator could do it, why couldn't that man on the Subway?

At first I thought this was an old 70's film and I would've skyrocketed the rating for it's value for the equipment used. But for an '09er it seems even better. With the cliffhanger ending I really would want to see another installment in the series, good movie! * * * * *

A horror that relies on nicely-paced, smart storytelling rather than all-out intensity, "The Night Hunter" mixes a sort of slick style with interesting strength. The voice-acting was spot-on, and just awesome...when the killer dialogue was thrown in, it become an absolutely unbeatable mixture. While, the ending was a bit too coincedental and strange (Involving the gasoline), it was executed perfectly. While a few snippets did have their predictable tie-ups, this movie was done in such a fashion that it makes it easy to disregard, in what definetely is a smooth entry into the horror genre.

I really enjoyed this style. It has the look and feel of a classic PI movie but with a little Twilight Zone - Hitch[be polite!] undertone. The voiceover work on the main character was exceptionally well-done.

An intelligent movie that entertains.

I'd like to see more community involvement in your next project. It's not easy to handle all the voiceover work on your own. Also, the music is a little tinny sounding.

Dulcilicious!

This movie had everything : clever and witty dialogue, suspenseful storyline, fantastic vo's, good music and great editing. The writing was outstanding, and though I didn't hide my face behind a pillow when the killer appeared (which is what I do when I watch horror movies on tv) you still managed to make the most of what comes with the game by your ingenious use of camera angles.

To be honest the narrating through the film put me off. the monster noise could have been 4 times louder to give a fear affect. The comedy dialog was just under being way too much.

It was more mature dialog than most films out now on TMO, the music didn't fit but it wasn't overpowering the vo's. The vo's where done very well. I forsee some great films in your future.

??I know a newspaper that??s missing a jackass?? What a legendary quote.
Chicago has been having an extensive amount of violence on TMO lately, and it seems noir films have slowly moved through cities and have now landed there too in this great horror/comedy/mystery. Good VOs, some great and surprisingly hilarious dialogue help this genius film. Classic narration, with fluffing up and changing around, increase the quality of this film, and the editing, and some of the camera shots, are really brilliant, almost seamless sometimes. From first glance, this is not what I expected at all, although I heard good things, I never expected the film to be this light in parts, then dark crime thriller, but you have done an excellent job of making it work, and adding the zombie theme to it seem realistic, well, as realistic as a theme with zombies can get.

Fast, slick and very entertaining movie.

Some great comedy elements infused with clever dialogue, wonderfully VOd by Qtigger.

Editing was a treat here and followed the pace of the story superbly...some 'atmosphere' effects wouldn't have gone amiss though.
Maybe shooting it in b and w or adjusting the lighting?...just my opinion though and I'm nitpicking here really.

Music...hmmm...volume could have been a tad louder, but that aside, it all sounded fine and dandy.

My only real critism comes from the one man VO show...whilst Qtigger
did a great job of voicing all the characters on the whole, I just feel this would have worked so much better with a full VA cast.

But again, I'm just nitpicking...this is a very enjoyable and different movie and a refreshing change to the usual horror affair that's floating around TMO.

Great work.

Amabeginzordawg's Horror Contest Review:

Great Job here qtigger.

The overall film left me with some underlying unsatisfaction, but aside from this, you managed to create a very compelling film. I loved the way you would narrate what happened as the movie progressed. I think that was extremely successful in your production. I liked the music except it sounded funny a lot of the time. I actually didn't find the film scary... as I thought the movie was more a comedy. Overall, it was a great detective film, with some witty dialogue.

Wow! Excellent work on this film. Reminded me of that old series the Night Stalker, but definitely worked well. The script really interested me and the characters were well defined and the music fit at the right times. I wouldn't be surprised if every once in a while you made another one of these gems to continue the story. Still, as a single movie, I was very impressed.

Definitely an Awesomely Awesome film! Excellent work!

Characters: 4.9/5.0 We could have learn a little more through flashbacks.

"I know a newspaper thats missing a jackass"-Classic.

Since I am a HUGE fan of the old show "The Night Stalker" I am happy to say this brings it all back (worth however you making a mention of that as the basis in the description) and reminded me why I loved that show.

Story: Very well played out. I really enjoyed that this revolved on a story driven narrative with minimal use of gimmicks. You carried of the VO's with a flawless and clever delivery. Each character having their own personality, even though you voiced them all. I think you captured what was great about that show and what made it a favorite of many. Clearly, effort and time went into the story.

Music/Fx: Well executed and the blood splatter on the subway window was a nice touch. I also liked how you DID NOT show the body, only the pool of blood, which is a nice touch and a move that isn't used much here. Zero flaws in this area.

Originality: Well since its based on a classic show, I give you points for staying within the shows principles and storytelling framework, and the idea of you doing an episode oddly, makes it original, in only that I doubt anyone would have made such an endeavor.

Last Say: Nice work, well played, and execution was very good in my opinion. I look forward to more of the Night Hunter since the show went off the air this will be the only place i can catch new episodes. Bravo for that.

5 stars from me for the following reasons:

1. Remake of a classic TV show that doesn't fall short
2. Story driven tale, not gimmicky
3. Well written, the chit chat isnt clunky or out of place.

Sickoid Flicks review:

Story: Now this was killer! A great original story, backed up with some really strong characters. The tale was great and the suspense high! This was a crafty blend of zombie genre horror and 30's style mystery. This probably the best horror story I've seen in some time. The main characters really had that "Noir" feel to them, and it comes off so well in the movie. I loved the end, and it makes you wonder...Is that really the end? Again, excellent script!

Production/Score: Some great shots going on here, man! I loved the final shot...Perfect! The VO's were another big highlight. They were very well done, and fit each character to a tee! I thought the score was nice, and spot on. My only gripe was the doctor...He just didn't look like a real doctor. Other than that, this is a really sharp looking film!

Wow factor/Final thoughts: I loved it. This movie was perfect blend of zombie lore, with mystery noir. An orginial story, with great characters and very high production values. A must see! Excellent work, man! - 5 stars!

Very fast-paced editing and acting here. A doff of the hat to the music as well - good job.

The story itself left a little to be desired:

"The flesh found on the victim was not theirs..." (paraphrasing)

Oh, that means "obviously, the undead attacked them" (heavily paraphrased!)

I thought the hero, who we're supposed to believe has an analytical journalist's mind, leapt far too soon to that conclusion. I would have liked to have seen a couple more scenes where he goes to the library and does some research, before the man in the white coat seals the deal with his explanation.

I also found the fortuitous placement of a full can of petrol on the Tube a bit hard to accept. How lucky is that!!!? (especially when your enemy can only be killed by consumation by fire!)

To be honest - when white coated man said "they must be consumed" I was hoping to see the hero attempt to eat that undead sucker! No such luck.

Good music and acting though!

I reckon this studio has loads of good films in store.

Pinnacle Review

Qtigger this was a masterpiece, in fact it was true art. I actually felt relatively scared but what makes me quiver in my boots is that your such a young TMOer, in the way that you have only recently joined or at least returned to our ranks. Yet you have already surpassed many of the active TMOers talents. I know you were here back at release time, all those years ago but this movie leads me to wonder whether you have been perfecting your abilities during your absence. I actually would wager that you have been observing, watching, waiting (Much like "Your grotesque friend") and learning from others as this absolutely blew me away. You have returned in true style and released a smash hit as well as surpassing many TMOers. I see great things coming from you in the future so from now on you will be bookmarked personally on my studio page. I must congratulate you on this movie, I am lost for words.

Story-9/10

The story was fantastic and had boulevards of imaginativity. We saw it from a reporters perspective which I found original, usually in horror movies like these you see it through a policeman's eyes. I loved the plot and setting as well. You have used an old writing technique that has been used for years in horror movies. You turned an ordinary, every day setting into something quite sinister, here it was a subway station. It is an old and effective technique which plays off the viewers imagination. The story itself was quite interesting and intricate, it developed smoothly but at a reasonable pace which prevents the viewer from getting bored. I am gob-smacked at this original and yet oh so suspenseful story. You have written a wonderful movie and this movie takes me back to the old days of TMO and the quality of movies back then, allowing me to personally reminisce in happy memories. Do keep up your writing, you have showed talent in this particular area and it is probably your writing which has forced my hand into being bookmarked on my studio.

Dialogue- 10/10

Your Voice Actors should be credited. I am not sure if they were well known or not but their voices were like a jigsaw to their characters. They fitted perfectly, personifying these little 2D computer generated people into 3D living characters in the viewers mind. They showed emotion and were expression-ate in reading their lines. Please congratulate them all on my behalf as I would also like to bookmark their studios. (If they have them.) But where would the Voice Actors be without the script. The script in my view was... well... a lovely, intriguingly written piece of writing. I complimented you above for your writing of the plot but now I would like to congratulate you on making your characters seem a little more real. The Voice Actors played their own part in doing it but you truly developed the characters, especially Car when he was narrating, with it. Once again a congratulations on your amazing writing. I just read that all voice characterizations were done by you... You have a career on TMO in voice acting I urge you to get into the game. Ask about it on the forums and answer to a few casting calls and let's see where you can get with it! You are up in the calibre of TMO VAs such as Docontheweb and Sleeves.

Free-Camera- 8/10

Your free camera was still amazing but is in no league with your writing. Still you did it very well, providing some interesting camera angles and pans. I loved the way the camera zoomed up the subway track, a very suspenseful shot. But you have definitely used the free camera to put emphasis on your genre. Now I have looked at your studio page and this is your second movie with free camera in it. You still have much to learn but you provided some simply yet gratifying shots to the movie. You have mastered how to build up suspense with them, give ounces of emotion with it. So now I challenge you to do two shots in one scene. Meaning that the camera moves twice in a scene. See if you can do that and make it move fluently.

Editing- 10/10

Now the opening shots of this movie just clinched it for me. The light switching on the off. Simply just plain cool. Nobody would have though such simple yet effective editing would have been overlooked so much by the community yet you bring to us a simple yet cool little effect with a little intelligence, a little editing and a little splicing. This was just a part of some great editing. You edited scenes accurately once again making the movie fluent in movement between locations and time. Some fantastic cutting between scenes, splicing and other things amongst. This was another aspect of the movie which lead me to believe you have spent the past couple of years practicing this. I expect you haven't... it is this that makes it even more amazing!

Music-9/10

I see you wrote and created all the music yourself. So what have we got on your to-do list on TMO now. Oh yes become fabulous, recognized voice actor, become a TMO musician for other members, oh and become a truly awesome studio. What are you? Some kind of super-being created for this community. I don't want to put pressure on you to do any of these things, do them in your own time and if you desire to. But another talent! Your probably such an all-rounder if I looked at you then you'd be 360 degrees. The music built up suspense as it should do and what can I say... it is simply another thing that intrigues me about you. Once again for the umpteenth time, keep amazing me!

So overall you are a talented man and I hope to see more of you on TMO in the future. You have made a stylish return. If only all people who returned could be like you. You are an amazing person that has created a true delight for review. I have only said half of what I could say. I am in shock and amazement, if I continued I would just become a jabbering mess out and be blasted away by your talents.

With an incredible interweaving plot with twist and turns at every corner mixed together with clever editing and use of free-cam, the night hunter is more than your average slasher flick. I really enjoyed everything about the film, from the story, to the acting and the music fit in really well with the atmosphere of the film.
It wasn't terribly scary, but it was certainly entertaining, great job.

A spooky, surreal film with outstanding dialogue and dazzling VOs. But, I found the entire premise unoriginal and boring. We've seen flesh-eating stalker movies before, because with TM technology, they're not difficult to create by any means. No barriers are broken, no cliches are left untapped, and the story has trouble deciphering what the motive is of this bad-ass killer. Still, the performances and dialogue impress enough to salvage 4-stars for this horror.

---The Ultimate Judge---

He forgot to salt the bones before he burned them!

Simply joking. What an excellent dedication or parody on "The Night Watcher." You did good to keep it creepy yet light with the humor. The voice acting is great. Only a few poofs here and there from the microphone, but other than that, good.

The editing was well done, and it was refreshing to not see a ton of scenes in which a frequent TMOer has seen about 1,000 times. The camera was dead on and used well.

Only complaint is that the gas can just sort of happened to be there. There wasn't really an explination as if he brought it with him or not. But the audience is left to assume he did. If not, then oops.

Overall an entertaining and refreshing film.

I judge this film "Innocent."

NEXT!!!

I have to admit, this movie made me wonder what was going to happen, especially at every twist and turn you put inside the flick. My only concern is that you had a couple shots where you started with a moving shot, then cut to a static shot. example: the first scene, starts out zooming off the window, then cuts to a static of him typing. Like I said, That is the only thing I saw wrong with the film.

Like many great films on TMO, this movie revolves around story. You didn't dazzle our imaginations with fancy effects or mods, you kept it plain and simple, which I admire. The story was a really great one, a classic detective thriller, which I enjoyed a lot. Very nice voice overs, they brought out the story of this flick. Superb Job!

The Archaic Awards
Review

Great, just wonderful. A clever and intruiging story about a hard nosed reporter and the undead subway stalker. The Vos were well done, there was difference between the characters, and very minimal sound blemishes. The only flaw I could find was the repetitiveness of the music. It got a little old after a while. Everyhting else was a joy to watch. I really hope you continue this into a series because you got a great character on your hands.

Teh Poptart Kid's Review Corner.

Ooh, A fine horror movie you have here Q. It was a great film, and it was very creepy. I wasn't sure if The Night Hunter would have survived the undead corpse, but sure enough, all was ok. You hook the person right into the story, which you did nicely I must say. The VO's, and the editing were nicely done. Plus, you made some good music choices Q. I hope you continue this story, because I'm dieing for more.

5 stars! Film on!

This was a brilliantly executed film. A great story. It was fun, creepy and completely entertaining.
The editing was well done. I loved the use of camera work and the sfx were used well to enhance the film.
Great choice of music. It helped set the mood very nicely.
VO's were perfect in my opinion. The narration really gave this film its flare. reminding me of the old dragnet and 50s detective serials. Great work on this.
I'd recommend this to anyone who loves horror or just a plain fun story. Goodluck to you with all your future films.

Fantastic Effort shown here! You have managed to take the horror thriller genre to a different direction with great narration and storytelling. I truly did not want it to end which is a testament to how good the film was. Your editting skills are definetly something worth mentioning as I was impressed with your dedication and effort!. The VO's were brilliant and at times quite witty. This makes for some downright enjoyable screenplay!

All in All Definetly a sleeper hit that should be watched by the whole TMO community. Good work and I now look forward to what you will do next with your storytelling/editting/vo talent!

This was a suprisingly good movie that really did impress me for a large majority of the time. In fact this movie is very close to five star material and I really would have loved to have given it that extra one star. However the movie has a few little problems that couldn't help bu distract me. Unfortunatelly be biggest problem has to go with the pacing, its really quite odd the pacing. The movie begins all very nice, and it continuous to work well until later on, in fact its round about the 6 minute mark, the movie literally seemed to sprint to the end as fast as possible without leaving time for much character stuff. This is a shame as the movie does have tonnes of atmosphere an intriguing premise and some very good VO's in there. In fact apart from the movie seeming rushed at the end of it all this movie really is up to an exceptionally high quality.

The movies script is pretty well polished, you get the occasional clunky piece of dialogue that was unavoidable but not that distracting either. The script was made even more polished by the decent cast as well, the VO's were really well done and added that extra oomph to your script that I think might have been lacking if done by either different people or with subtitles. The movie also has a nice bit atmosphere, and trust me I know how difficult it is to pull atmosphere off as I tried about five different movies desperately trying to get it creepy enough. This might not be full on in your face scary but it has a nice bit of creepiness in it that made the movie seem a lot better. Overall this is a good stab at the horror genre and I like the fact you've tried an inventive storyline, but ultimatelly the movie failure is by not having enough freedom and feeling oddly restrained come the climax, really good, just a little bit of excellent.

Paying homage to The Night Stalker...good job! Anyway, I thought The Night Hunter's story, characters, v/o's, cams, and customs were put together very well...and best of all it had some style! I like the small comic relief snipits you added in too. I thought that touch blended in with the atmosphere of the story quite well and weren't over-done or distractingly cheesy. You had just the right amount. The only part of the movie I personally think needed tweaking was the last bit. I think it could have used a little more tention build up to the climax fight. Maybe delay the part where the monster reveals itself with scenes of the Hunter being baited with strange noises, false scares, more of him searching around looking for clues or something. Not trying to dog your work though, just giving some ideas...because I know the limitations with trying to put one of these flicks together.

But I hope more stories of the Hunter are to be told! Good Work!

A nicely crafted story. Worked very well using the, of course limited, possibilities of the prescripted "Movies" scenes. Editing was done well excpet for one superfluous fade out.
Ending had a good mood to it. I liked to voice over, maybe next time do not use dialog, but stay with one voice. narrating.

How come no more people saw. or reviewed this movie?
