What a tremendous film!

It really was a TMO version of Alice in Wonderland.

The whole thing was a gigantic escape from the real world, the excellent music choices helped this immeasurably.

Lovely special effects shots too. A truly excellent film from start to finish.

This film had me glued from start to finish and I was actually suprised at the end , time flew by so fast and thats a testament to your story telling. Your use of scenery and props were executed well! your creativity was excellent. Nice choice of music again which highlights my thoughts and impression of you as the Tim Burton of TMO!

Well Done on a fascinating film that I will recommend to others, it is so different from most things i've seen here and still shows that subtitled films are worth watching in this day and age of VO's

Good luck with any future projects and I look forward to the next Tim Burton of TMO film !!!

I give a stop five stars because I agree with everyone else. It was great, and the pictures even looked beautiful. And I agree with the first comment of JazzX that it really was a TMO version of Alice in Wonderland. Though, some it wasn't like Alice in Wonderland.

Truely amazing cimematography. Beautiful plot line.
Only two spelling errors i saw. Graal=grail and one in the red room scene.
The man in the tree was just a manicine, but i guess he was supposed to be.
The mushrooms had no texture, but they were fine. I give this movie a 5. Keep up the good work and you will be at the top.

A very strange and colorful journey which is a delight to the eye. The story itself is not a strong tale but it doesn't have to be due to the nature of this film. The creative talents of the film maker are displayed time and time again as this movie travels one path after another. I think most viewers will enjoy this film although some may loose their way.

I enjoyed the film a lot. Did it have a meaning? Did it have a single meaning or was it open-ended? I believe you wanted it to be open for the interpretation of the viewer. I am content with what I feel I walk away as the ending of the film, which I in turn use as my interpretation of the lesson learned. The look of shock on her face at the end seemed to confirm her realization of the predicament she was in, and the futility of fighting the situation. It seemed her fate was sealed much earlier than she realized. At least that was my interpretation. I could easily be wrong; but, what was wonderful was the way the story was told: so open-to-interpretation; so bold in its colors and scenary; so full of energy in the youth of the character and the vibrancy of the music; so abstract in some of its concepts of images; so accessible (in terms of subtitles to us English speaker) of a story. A uniquely refreshing way to tell a story.

Brilliant! I can't help but wonder if Lewis Carroll nibbled on the same patch of mushrooms when he wrote HIS masterpiece 150+ years ago. This movie is a perfect story as is. No sequels needed.

This film had a great fairy tale vibe! I loved some of those forest shots. The story was ok, but got a bit confusing towards the end. I liked score. It was very fitting of this type of movie. The editing and pace were great in the first half of the film, but it got a little rough in some of those scenes. Overall, a really weird, yet cool, original fantasy flick. - 4 stars

What a fantastic movie! Finaly I've had the time to watch this brilliant movie and I'am glad that I did it. The original story is like a dark fairy tale and it shows your talent in storytelling. The visual aspects of the movie such as setdrssing, overlays and backgrounds are state of the art and you also used the free cam perfectly. The wonderful soundtrack fits perfectly into the movie and boost up the movie's atmosphere. Two thumbs up and 5 stars from me! :)

Teh Poptart Kid's Review Corner.

Ah. What an enchanting film you have here Babar23, It's like Alice in Wonderland all over again. The music was great, as it set the mood of this wonderful film. The special effects? Those were amazing dude! Those 3 ways popping out of nowhere like that. The castle, and those two other doors. And, a lot of interesting characters caught my eye. The quest she was on to find the antidote was really fun to watch, and I was really into the movie. It was also interesting how you put this movie into letterbox mode.

A fine peice of work you have here Babar. Film on!

5 stars!

Most surreal movie Ive seen on Tmo and it was fantastic!

You never knew what was real and what was not, kind of a David Lynch feeling.
This has to be one of the best movies on TMO and oh my god do you have potential if you did this piece of art in only 9 hours!

Amazing music and the use of freecam gave so incredibly much to the whole experience.

I agree with you fully when you say that this didnt need VO's! It truly deserved a hot pick.

Bookmarked - no doubt about it!

What a wonderfull story. It reminds me a bit of Alice in Wonderland, but just a bit. Good written. The understandible subs are a bit 2 fast here and there.
I like the music! It fits very well. The sounds and background sounds make it feel much more realistic.
Nice use of costumes. I only felt that the blue "doll" didn`t fit so well but thats only a matter of taste. Nice use of custom sets and good use props.
Edit/Production: The editing is good. As well as the overlay effects. There are a few scenes that look a bit wild cut but it keeps the mystical forrest mystical :) As for the production, very well!! A good start, a good plot and good (open) end. I like the appearences and changes done by the freecam!
I`d say a good and solid fairytale story! Keep up the creative work!

Cristina Ricci directed this one? :)

An entertaining "Alice"-type fairy tale, aided by great music (please do list the soundtrack), this is a rare treat on TMO. The story was a bit non-consequential and light, which is strange as usually these types of stories focus on some sort of disguised morals for kids. So I am not sure whether you intended to do something like that, or if you were more interested in achieving a stylistic homage to fairy tale movies like Harry Potter and such. The ending felt a bit more like horror camp.

Nevertheless, I found this to be quite unique, and enjoyable!

from applying backdrops to zero mistakes this movie was definitely flawless.

The backdrops were amazing! I loved how you used them in your power to create a fairy-tale-like setting.

The freecam was also done flawlessly, I like how you had long shots so the viewer was somewhat confused on what was happening. Then you come in with a close-up and it looks professional. Really nice job!

nice mods, and the sound effects really proved crucial in this film!

excellent job! Well-worth 5 stars

A startling and tremendous fairy tale that oozes with the sort of go-for-broke cinematic daredevil trickery only Babar could bring to the fold. He is, by far, one of the most talented filmmakers on TMO, and with this he solidifies himself as the sort of autuer that would have been celebrated in Cahier du Cinema during the sixties. His cinema is revolutionary! Here, he fuses the traditions of French cinema with a heavy dose of Spanish surrealism, creating a nightmare-fairytale atmosphere that delights and unnveres at the same time.

This is masterful filmmaking, with dizzying camerawork, beautiful set design, startling, elliptical editing, and an ending that punches you straight in the stomach. It was whimsical and tragic, emotional and charming. Filmmaking like this takes us to new, imaginative levels, and really does push the limits of what we know about cinema.

A fantastic film. Truly a work of art.

The pacing at the beginning was slow compared to the rest of the movie. Your camera work was both good and bad. The slow tracking shot with the protagonist walking through the jungle was magnificent, but some of the other camera movements were over the top or were too close for no particular reason. The dialogue in the subtitles was very predictable and at times quite cliched. I really didn't like the effects where things just started appearing on the screen out of nowhere. Why not have a shot of her reaction to the things appearing and then cut back to the changed setting? The red set was very stunning, but one character's head was passing through the wall. The biggest fault of the movie was that it really had no purpose. I know you said this in advance, but what good is a fairytale without a moral?

C.D Review.

Very effective use of setdressing here. The movie had a surreal feel to it, which the music brought out extremely well. Very impressive ediing and camera control.
I felt the translation wasn't as good as it could be, and some of the elements in the storyline felt slightly disjointed. But overall it was a fab movie.

Good, but unfulfilling.

Like many have mentioned, this was very "Alice in Wonderland"-esque. I loved this kind of film, so for the first 3/4, I was captivated by the environment, the story, the sounds, and the atmosphere. It was truly breathtaking to watch, and quite entertaining as well.

But, after the first 3/4, the movie spirals downhill. We reach an anticlimactic and confusing conclusion where all we do is wait for Alice to recieve a potion--and from a character we know absolutely nothing about. To top it all off, Alice gives him a cold hard slap across the face. I mean, to go completely outside her character and slap a man that she has never met in ther life...that didn't seem believeable to me. I was disappointed in your effort in the conclusion.

I read the description and understand that you only had 9 hours to make this, but that's no excuse for leaving us with such an unsatisfying conclusion. But I will knock it up to 4 stars for the breathtaking atmosphere you created in the first 3/4 of the film.

This movie was amazing, much like a dark Alice in Wonderland. The only thing that kept throwing me off was her name. I feel I could have got even closer to " Mathylde", if she had a more simplistic name. I still can't pronounce her name even when reading slowly, but I am not going to let this tarnish the quality of the movie and my rating. Excellent job!! An unexpected film from the creator of the "Hitman" series. (Spoiler alert) An interesting little fantasy film in the style of the Brothers Grimm, with great use of music, special effects, sound, and a fresh look with the use of backdrops. It kept my interest throughout, but it did feel rather random (and reminiscent of "Alice in Wonderland" with the eating of magical foods and appearing in a bizarre, incomprehensible world). I did find a few inconsistencies which I feel I need to mention. First, in regards to the man who turned into bones, why did he attack Matilda after he became a skeleton? And why wan't she killed after he throttled her? Considering she tried to help him, that bit of ingratitude made no sense (I generally expect such fantasy stories to have a moral message behind it). Secondly, I found it odd that Matilda slapped the messanger/courier of the second path because he was later. She was portrayed as an innocent and sweet girl, and seems out of character when she attacked the poor messenger. Overall I did not find the story itself very fulfilling, and it lacked both cohesion and purpose. Perhaps the second part (which I assume is forthcoming) will reveal more of the intent of the picture.

I am giving this 4 stars because it is a well done film. But I had to flag it as well because you used copyrighted material in it.

Danny Elfman's score from Edward Scissorhands was instantly recognisable to me, and listing them on the home page doesn't give you the right to use them.

Look to the Public Domain listing for music. There is a LOT of good stuff out there that you can use without getting in any trouble at all.

First off, I have to say that this is really a 5 star movie. I docked you one star for blatantly using copyright protected music.

As YouTube will soon discover, that's a legal no-no.It's also a moral one in my book.
I'm a composer myself and would hate to see people rip me and my family off, without my knowledge, in order to further their own artistic endevours.

That said, your film was brilliant, well conceived, and tastefully executed.

I'm not questioning your talent and vision here... but your cavalier stance on using other peoples artistic creations without even asking permission is disapointing.

I suggest finding a real composer to actually custom score your next movie. That would make me very happy. (scratches head)

I'd even consider offering to do that for you since you are so talented.

Pure magic. for real, this movie really blowed me away, with your fantastic touch of story telling, wich kinda remind me of Tim Burton himself. Elfmans magical music should also have alot of cred, for making this movie, to one of my TMO favorites. Not due to quality or editing, no .. because what I love with this movie is the heart and soul that you cleary have put into this movie. I tho think this movie should be even greater with some VOs, but that is not easy to find these days.:)

At the start this movie seemed like a pleasant cartoon, but it turned darker and more mystical as it went on. The backdrops at the start were wonderful it made it so pleasant. Than the music changed to adjust to a darker tone.
And I thought that your characters were so awesome. I mean, they fit right in to the fantasy/dark tone of the film. And the end leaves you hanging and wondering.

Editing: 26/30. There are a few moments here where it became apparent you were working on a schedule. As an example, after the knight drinks from the potion (or fountain?), it looks like he falls right through one of the props.

Production Value: 13/15. This comes close to fulfilling my toughest rating category. The film itself has fantastic production quality. Overlays, backdrops, and set dressing (props) are all used to the film's advantage. I'm also impressed that you consistently maintained the full widescreen presentation. The only place I felt a little extra attention could be given is with the opening (the title overlay).

Characters: 10/10. Fairy tale characters for a fairy tale story.

Dialog: 9/10. Great fairy tale dialog. You'll find out where the extra point could have come in my suggestions portion below.

Total: 93/100.

5 stars!

My suggestions: Alright, so can I really give suggestions to someone who is a better filmmaker than I? Well, you did post in my review thread, so why not? ;)
I'm fully appreciative that you had to translate this from French to English, and that translations are always a difficult process. This is really quite nit-picky of me, but it's the only real suggestion I can give... You might have considered putting the translation through an extra layer. Rik_vargard did well to give the English-speaking audience enough to know what's being said. But it would have added just a little extra to follow that by collaborating with someone who *only* speaks English. For example: "Do not mislay yourself Mathylde!" gets the point across, but "mislay" is not a word typically used when referring to a person.

Oh, and about the music... you know...

Absoloutly Amazing!!!
I've noticed that NUKESTER says you are the Tim Burton of TMO. True, but I think you are the John Carpenter of TMO! He made HALLOWEEN!!!
Plz watch and rate The Man Behind The White Beard. If you rate it 5 stars, I will award you with 1000VCs!!!

C12H17N2O4P, A psilocybic adventure in the mind's eye, as young Mathylde gives into the temptation of the flesh of christ, only to be thrust into a world of deceptions, hallucinations and options without end. Vibrant yet subdued, intoxicating yet sober, enchanting yet nightmarish ~ this beautiful lapse from reality wows the senses with light, sound and motion, quite unlike any other . . . Babar(23!?), wows us again with a toxicologic reaction to cinema both surreal and poigniant. ~ Kudos!!!

Trip is the word used when your on something, so where you when you made the film. Anyway superb work. Very Alice in wonderland cross with a lot of freaky nursery rhymes.

Your imagination has no bounds, Babar. For a film made within 9 hours, this is a tremendous achievement and a surprising yet strange venture into a Wonderland-ish world. Very well done!

Incredible. Absolutely Incredible. You keep us interested for 9 minutes. That's quite an achievement. I loved the unique story, your special effects were wonderful. The only single flaw in this is that it shifts from night to day a couple of times at the start of the movie. But other than that, this has beautiful storytelling in it. The music reminds me of Pete's remake of King Kong.

I don't know why, but this has to be one of my favorite films on the website. A zany and dark joourney throught he mysteries of the forest. A must agree that this is very Tim Burton-esque, which makes it only better. The freecam and set design were brilliant, no genius! That was incredible! The only thing I can think of that may be not so good, is I thought I heard Edward Scissorhands music, but I can't be sure.

a very amazing trip (je teste mon anglais là)... that your talent, babar manages to make understandable and surprising... a great "maitrise, as they say in France. The differents fairytale references make it even more enjoyable... a kind of surprising but know territory.... gratz!

Bravo Babar!

You ARE the Tim Burton of TMO!

Enchanting,Captivating,Fresh,Funky and Definetly Eye Catching!
