I decided to take a little walk down memory lane and do a bit of a comparison between Mezzanine??s Interlude, and Mezzanine??s Overture. After seeing a quick clip of Overture, I figured, ??how much better could it be??? Well, it shocked me. It comes right out of the gate with catchier, smoother music. The scenes seemed to flow better, and the voice overs worked to an even greater degree than they had in Interlude. Elizabeth Susan Carter has taken Stunts and Effects and really created something over and above what was previously possible. The visual style, camera work, etc. totally overshadows Interlude, making it almost seem like a film done by a small town amateur film geek, vs. the sleek, sexy, style of a professional filmmaker that Overture exudes from beginning to end. Of course the limitations of the original game are largely to blame for Interludes inferiorities, Overture seems to come alive, leaving behind some of the slap stick, and turning up the steam leaving only glistening sheen of sex and soul.

I wasn??t sure how I would like some of the changes. I thought I would miss the boss not being the father, and Namaste not being the brother, etc. I think it would have been intriguing to expand on those relationships, to explore and perhaps string along a bit more with the whole Namaste having a thing for his sister, (gotta love taboo subjects) but in the end I honestly didn??t miss it. I almost think I like the relationships between everyone better as they are presented in Overture. They seem to all be deeper characters. Perhaps that is because the story is only presented in part, and thus more time is being spent with individuals, but I think that it is also because they have been refined as well, and kudos for taking the time to do so. Many film makers would have just gone on, but having seen the story as it was, I still find myself wanting to see the next step, not only to see what things will change, but to see the characters emerge even more than before, and become real people. I thank my lucky stars that I was fortunate enough to even be a part of such a wonderful production.

I loved the bit with Namaste falling behind the bar, even better in this one. The old one seemed a bit heavy handed I think, but this one almost snuck by, and didn??t make a big deal about it, almost as if it was happening in the background to something else. I guess that??s the whole thing with Overture. It??s everything that was great about Interlude, cutting the fat, and bulking up on style and substance. I anxiously await the next installment of Mezzanine, and any other films by Elizabeth Susan Carter, as she is truly one of the greatest filmmakers on TMO. If you haven??t checked out her other films you absolutely need to get you keister in gear and watch them (I particularly enjoyed Tales of a Pulp Fiction Fan for some reason, but it doesn??t seem to be up at the moment. Fortunately I saved it on the old hard drive).

Stuffed with intrique, suspense, and erotic energy, Mezzanine's Overture comes to us like a postmodern film noir wearing a pair of silky smooth nylons. Full, unadulterated sex appeal -- compressed into movie form. Smooth and witty dialogue pulls this story along as we are seduced into the seedy underbelly of sex, drugs, and petty larceny, and the story the director has crafted for us is truly something else. Of course, Elizabethsusan's characters are the true stars of the show; her eccentric cast of regulars remain interesting and wholly enjoyable to watch from beginning to end. It is truly remarkable that we have come to love these characters so much.

Here's waiting for part two.

Great narrative, characters, and dialogue are what we've come to expect from Elizabethsusan. This new series has it all; intrigue, betrayal, lust and an absolutely slick atmosphere. What sets ElizabethSusan's films apart from most other TMO flicks is her stylish presentation. It's not any single element--not the meticulously chosen camera angles, not the cool music track, nor the silky dialogue which roll off moist tongues like cigarette smoke on a cold velvet night; it is the combination of these cinematic elements, and a bit of soul, which only Elizabethsusan can craft and mold to such effect.

Another majestic journey through a lush landscape of fiesty dames, smooth~talking opportunists and mounting triplecrosses as a saga of lust and espionage unfolds faster then a stripper's thighs. This complex little number is loaded with some decadently wicked acting, (if we do say so ourselves!), and dangerous amount of pornolicious jazz, which slides across the viewer's palate like juniper and cocaine. ~ Kudos!

With a heart that's beating louder than my own
I watch a girl they call Mezzanine
My hope is to atone
A sin that cost a lifetime
a sin in snow white
A sin,
A Smile,
and a cigarette burning

And Now It Becomes The "too Much Woman 4 U" combo

A mixure of raw energy and mystery surround the the uncertain air. Underneath the smoke rises mezzanine split legged on a single chair...leading to the anticipation of the forthcoming event.."can she drive stick?" "Is she a real blonde?" "Is There Sex in the Champagne Room?"

Damn - I really want to give this film 5 stars but it's spot on 4 and a half and won't budge in my mind.

This is VERY GOOD film, but for me not a perfect one. It's soooo good and yet soooo frustrating. Right off tha bat from the titles I was laughing, but I confess I am a newbie to the Mezzanine franchise and the freshness of the plot, characters and director's touch seduced me easily and quickly.

Highlighting this film is the exquisiteness of the dialogue integration and superb direction skills. Nary a fault can be found in the film-craft here. On its own the dialogue splicing is seemless and an art in itself. The cast list is a who's who of the TMO community and they are absolutely fantastic. Each of them has a superb grasp of the script and genre and they are all to be congratulated.

Alright - the candy's been consumed... Detractors hit me aplenty as the film progressed - and, oh, I wish they weren't there. Damn I wish they weren't! As a newcomer to the franchise I looked upon this film with an outsider's eyes, and I was tested. As good as this craftsman is, this excellent production suffers from the TMO curse of impatience and assumption. There are gaps aplenty within the script progression here, and if you're a newcomer to these characters as I am, good luck in keeping track. This doesn't make for bad story telling, it makes for - gad, dare I say it - poor story telling. There are vital scene and plot connections missing in the framework of this excellent production and each and every time they occur I, as a viewer, am forced away from the story and characters. No!!! I don't want to be forced away! I WANT to know what's going on! I WANT to have an inkling as to where the story and characters are taking me!

Arghhh - such a hard decision in the end.

For connoisseurs this movie boasts a fantastic soundtrack that is sleazy, evocative, atmospheric, and pure retro heaven.

Leaving four stars here is agony - I wish this system was out of ten, but then I'd be anguishing over 9 and a half. Such a good, NEARLY perfect film.

"Mezzanine's Overture." Hmmm... The story was real good. I enjoyed most of the dialogue, although some of it went too quickly. The VO's were fantastic, but as I said before, they went too fast. The music was superb! Great work on the whole film. And you'v got some nice posters which suprised me because the fact TMO checks the posters for any adult content! 5 STARS!

I won't pretend to say I understood all that was going on, but as this is to be continued I'd expect all the pieces to fit together. It's been a long time since I saw a Mezzanine movie and judging from this it's been too long (my fault I know). So what did I see?
Some of the most interesting characters blend together in such a way that they come to life. The dialogue is very realistic and also clever in that it maintains interest with that 'I want to find out more' effect. This went so well with the music which took me back to the 1970's and then the 1950's. Sort of Blaxploitation meets Film Noir (an interesting hybrid). All in all this is very enjoyable instalment in the Mezzanine series.

my my my, arent you lucky that you have all these technological abilities, to make such wonderfull movies and such, with beautiful intros and a beautiful movie. it, didnt really keep my interest for more then the first few scenes, but, it looked like it would have been good, so, i'll give it a good rating. but whatever, keep up the good work

Well that was quite different than most movies I see around TMO. And I mean that.

The music was great and suited the setting well. (plus I'm a sucker for jazz, even if it's copyright-free) The opening with the fake newspaper shots was brilliant and set up the story and tone well. Heck, the sets and props were all well done.

I didn't think the content was that bad...at least compared to other movies I've seen on here. Compared to them, this would be more of a PG-13. But it was a good movie nonetheless. Good work.

Sexy movie! The voice acting was really superb. It just helps when there's great scriptwriting behind it, and this one delivers. The witty lines set you up nicely to know how some of these sexy, sleek mistresses move about in this society.

The chair dance is a classically used scene, albeit an over=used one at times. It's your approach to it that made it spectacular. Sultry and with simple moves, the music matched the hypnotic enivornment to the tee.

Well I will be honoest, 5 for the voices, -5 for the crapy script play, and lets say 5 for the story so it all equals out. One of the worst abuses of musicians ever seen on The Movies. Such a brilliant sound track and not a single player, composer or band credited. The filmmaker has been completely unrepentant and, as such, I have flagged this film for removal from TMO.

Using musicians' work without permission is one thing - and not crediting them is another - then defaming them by suggesting all their music were porn soundtracks that don't command any respect.

Awful, simply awful.

A Critic's Center Review

I am seriously just in a wowed state of mind right now. I can't really think of what to say other than this is by far one of the best films I have ever seen on this entire website. considering I've hosted and Award Show, was part of the 7 crusaders of cinema review, and am on TMO quite a bit, I'd say you are the one to be flattered here - and quite a bit.

This film was truly superb. The story, the sets and their detail, the VOs, the music, the editing, all were to die for! I don't understand how you could possibly even pull this off! Great work! Great work indeed.

Now I want to talk to you about your VOs really. Some were perfect and others were a bit low at times. At I really couldn't understand them that well. But I was even thinking this as I watched it "This really isn't taking away from my enjoyment...hey maybe I should write that in the review!" (Haha)

Well the music certainly was awesome. It's hard to get that music trasition in a movie and you did pretty well, I must admit. You're a professional and soundtracking aren't you?

Well the sotry was of course original and accompanied by the great editing. They both really worked together to like double my enjoyment level!

This movie's quality was top notch, and you left me off at a cliff hanger. I'm definitely looking forward to part two!

The story itself was well woven, and very intriguing. VO's were quick, yet easy to hear and superbly well acted. Music fit the genre and was perfect for this sort of movie. Costumes, scenes and editing were also well chosen.
A fantastically crafted movie, great job!

Excellent speech, characters and story. I felt excited in a wierd way through the whole movie. I enjoyed the sex appeal most of all of some of the characters and the sheer speed of which the movie was set at.

Great opening, the music and clip show sets up a very realistic opening but also involved me far before the first bit of dialog.

Ok, the dialog is a little rushed. Not only in delivery but how it strings together to create a scene, especially in the opening. They are speaking very quickly.

The dialog was ok, it wasn't great and the story was much like Innocence Sacrificed and other films with a heroin character. However, your vocals that performed the dialog were top rate, excellent! Some of the best combined voice acting I've heard in a long time.

The quiet background music was also great, it wrapped for a great film. Overall, its 4 stars because its not the BEST I've seen, but its good. However I think with your skill to assemble a cast and the foundations set in by this film I think you can do better, be angry that I broke your perfect record or see it as a challenge for your next picture, I would really like to see your next movie because I think you will nail it, if you can springboard off alot of the positives of this film than you're set.

Story:
The intro is excellent! The story is very dynamic ( because of the quick Vo´s and scene cutting.) I like it, it`s entertaining.

Music/Sound:
The custom music is great and fits with the scenes. Great voice acting! The Vo´s are put directly after eachother which speeds up the flow of the movie. Good work!

Costumes/Sets:
Good use of custom costumes and good use of sets.

Edit/Production:
Great use of effects/customs!

Overall:
This is an excellent production! entertaining! Keep up the good work!

Arrrrrrggghhh. Just as it was really moving along, it leaves me hanging? What's with that? Great work ESC, as with the rest of the mezz series, real dialogue from larger than life characters. Witty banter, nice overlays and backdrops, classy music and a well polished production all round.

A brand new start from Stellar Perceptions. The slick, sexy Mezzanine certainly owns the bar as soon as she steps onto the stage.

The music and VOs were exceptional...

The whole atmosphere was simply stylish...

Exposing the sleek underbelly of society, eh? ;)

Outrageously good.

Oh, and that red dress was so sexy ;)

The Stellar font change/flickering was cool..
Cool Groovy Tunes throughout this flick.
VO's WAY COOL! Worked well & convo's totally Believable.
Spliced together well too.. The Cam Work is that of a Pro!;)
The Closing shots were very good...Minimal but effective.
Scantily clad Women everywhere in the Bar was nice..hehe
A Slick & intriguing Film here for sure...Can't wait for the continuation!

I was very much hooked all the way throughout this movie, with its sharp dialogue and the very cool style. Besides the witty exchanges, some of the thing that really stand out is the excellent costumes, custom sets and smoothly chosen camera angles. Rarely have I seen that certain grown-up mood and atmosphere created from a game that is essentially cartoonish in nature.

What a great series you have going here! :D
