What have we here? I was sitting in front of my PC, sipping on chilled water, clicking the "play button" to what I believed was another TMO film, when suddenly my world was transformed. For a few minutes there I actually felt I was in an arthouse cinema viewing an independent entry to the Sundance Festival. The scenes, the sights, and that marvelous soundtrack, it was mesmerizing. Above it all, and beneath, was that exquisitely written narration. That was true poetry! With lines like "a weakness I enjoyed" how could I not gasp in literary awe? This piece simply exudes atmosphere and grace--and it's only the introduction to a story as yet veiled. Magnificient.

I like the story you are developing here. On it's own this movie is intriguing and has a definate Noir feeling about it. I did feel drawn in as the charachter really stands out. I guess that is how this project works well, because there are 2 studios focusing on 2 different charachters you can develop them a lot more than if you were doing it alone. You seem to have used this to your advantage and have created an endearing charachter in Nick. Well done.

Ingenious, inventive and most original. I really liked this 'his' and 'hers' approach.
The directing was superb, the blend of mysterious music, sombre lighting, and freecam work was excellent. The script and VO helped develop the plot well, so that we are inevitably drawn in as to what happens next. Nice work my friend.

I must confess, before I wrote this review,I went and watched Nina'a prologue directly after, and then I came back here and watched this one again.
I was intrigued by the overall storyline and I couldn't help myself but to go and watch the other perspective straight away(which I will do again when I am done here).
The way in which Nick explains his situation through the narration is both interesting and compelling. He is someone who seems to be in a constant struggle with himself and his weaknesses while internally struggling to remain in control of the situation. He knows what he is good at,but he also knows his failings. The legs, yes, the legs lol:-)
Having watched both versions really makes me look at the characters in different ways, and I'm glad I watched both before I reviewed, because I felt like I had an insight into both of them before I said anything about them, almost like I was reading their minds.
A truly unique style of movie-making,an incredibly good idea, and a thoroughly entertaining storyline.
Unlike anything I've seen on TMO,or anywhere else for that matter...

I am writing this before watching Nina's tale... I like the idea you have got here and what a great start. You drew me in and I want to know more about Nick.

Some great use of the free cam, lighting, music, and scripting. I loved how you didn't get to hear the Woman, it added to the mystery of the tale. You gave away only what you wanted to give :-)

This movie has atmosphere by the bucket loads. Like a game of chess I feel that the pieces have been set and we are now ready to play.

I am looking forward to the main event!

Great job, take care

What haven't review that one yet? Well it's about time! The two birds with one stone films are actually 2 of my favorite ones on TMO. Human interaction is fascinating, very complex and hard to understand, especially if it's between human beings of a different gender. That's exactly what you two have taken on in those 2 short films.I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll leave it at that...
absolutely loving it! A shame your not active on TMO anymore!

A very enjoyable movie. Good scripting and good character development. The music helped produce a good atmosphere. The style was a little slow for me, but thats just a matter of taste.

That was very professionally done peg...I was addicted as soon as the VO began (and nice VO BTW! :D). Trying to find a downside to this film,I could only say that the pace of the movie was kind of weird for me at times, especially about 3/4 through, but it didn't alter my experience none,I loved this peg! I'm wondering when the next one comes?

You used music and silent acting a la Boorman for giving it the ambience of dark thriller/romance you wanted. You used the narration through diferent caracters a la Kurosawa's Rashomon for showing how two diferent people can narrate the same thing diferently. You pegleg, are a director, using influences, even subconscioulsy, and using it in a arthouse efect, I (as a fan of Viscounti, Eisenstein and other artists of the celluloid) enjoy!

Love it. You managed to intrigue me with just the dialogue - wouldn't have even needed to see the film, which is good as I am folding laundry at the moment. Can't wait to see more. Oh and by the way, you are a very good actor and have a fine voice!!!

Very nicely done. I am a fan of internal monologues and all they reveal about the characters who have them. Particularly of interest to me are the ones that that offer up that hard boiled edge of so many classic detective stories before it.
Very compelling film noir, very stylized feel and very worth a watch.

Well, I can see you're still obcessed with the free cam function (Not in a bad way). Really good movie, and great directed. Very dark (is that what Noir means?). Of course you get a 5 star from me.

Cinematography, music, lighting, all of it is perfect for the movie. I thought the narration was too fast much of the time, although that didn't make it less understandable. I found the switch from engineer to PI a little jarring, but the meeting with the woman who hires the PI was very well done. A great movie.

That's a very interesting approach! Originally I thought it were the same scenes seen through each of the characters eyes. But that is not really the case, it's the same scenes accompanied by each persons thoughts, like written in a diary.
Very interesting approach to story telling and it gets the viewer a lot more involved than he normally would.
The mood is heavy and dark, like you can feel the burden each one is carrying.
The music hypnotic, like the movement of a Cobra, about to strike at any moment. It has a "modern" film noir quality.
Very promising indeed, with solid voice work which, for this kind of movie, is ever so important. Great work !

As with the "Nina Prologue" on Dulci's page, I didn't really enjoy this first time round. That said, the more I watch this, the more I like it.

Nick comes across as the more vulnerable character, whereas Nina doesn't appear to give too much away.

Your idea to have these two prologues was a clever one as it really sets the scene for main event.

A wonderful idea, and a terrific film noir. From the editing to the voice acting to the camera work... incredible. Film noir is very difficult to create, as it is so easy to become melodramatic. You avoided this trap very nicely, and you have managed to do something even more challenging... you made me care about the main character. I'm off to view Nina's prologue!

whew.

i was proved wrong with the same scenes theory!

nick's prologue was, quite interesting, it goes as deep as nina's did. but didn't seem to interest me all that much, as i had just watched something which is very similar to it. I still loved the music choices, and voice-overs. You and dulci have written a very fine piece of film - i just want to see damn main course! i'm hungry!

great work.

Nick??s version is very much like Nina??s, with more background information and his perspective, but really nothing surprising that couldn??t be inferred in Nina??s version. I liked the idea of a prologue from two different perspectives, but somehow after watching Nick??s I became unusually aware of the techniques and the pacing, instead of being absorbed by the story as I should be. I have to wonder whether just using the traditional cutting between the two versions in one movie wouldn??t have been a better solution, and that the choice of having two movies was an experiment that looked cool on paper, but may not yield the best results on screen. And then I thought about the silence gaps between the monologue bursts that pervade these two parts. It worked the first time around, but not the second ?? as 12 minutes of the same pacing and mood can be tiring.

Anyway, we are missing the main event that invariably will tie the two stories together, so I await that for final overall judgement!

Interesting approach to movie making, I liked the colors of this movie, all dark and moody like Nick's mood. I found the music very unsettling, it worked well with the movie but it gave me the feeling that what will happen with these two people in the upcoming movie will be very dramatic.
Your voice suited Nick's character very well, I don't know how much of you there is in him but you must have a good feel for what he is going through.

I hope I got the right idea about these two characters, with Nina being mysterious and very confident and knowing what she wants, and Nick struggling to stay upright in a world which has treated him poorly. Whether or not this was the case they are certainly an intriguing pair, and hopefully I will learn more about these two soon.

You and Dulci have done a very good job, as I said on the review for Nina's Prologue.
A very good story, and an interesting and unique way of starting it off. I watched this one first, so it was a little confusing seeing all the Nina scenes, but watching the other half made it all work.
You did a good job with the VOs, the characters became real, and it definately leaves the viewer wanting more.
Freecam and lighting were both used extremely well in both movies (I forgot to mention it in Dulci's review, oops!), you set such a great atmosphere, the music selection went perfectly with this as well.
Great movie(s), I'll be waiting for the rest!

SYNOPSIS: (Vision, Originality) Inspired! Has to be one of the most unique film ideas, if not THE most, I've seen on TMO. I want to say much, much more, but don't want to give anything away, just be sure to watch BOTH films.

WHAT'S SEEN(Photography, Costumes, Sets, Props): Camerawork is top-notch. Some truly striking visual moments. Framing and freecam are excellent. The films' dressings and trappings fit perfectly, and the use of the sets and lighting make for an atmosphere of seductive shadows as mysterious as Nina's motives.

WHAT'S WRITTEN (Script and Subtitling (if used)):This is the BEST part of both films. It flows along with the images and music like dark and moody poetic jazz.

WHAT'S HEARD (Sound effects, Music, and VO if done): This also shines. The selections heard in both films fit perfectly. Nick's soundtrack is a little disjointed and off kilter, but considering who is, and where he is in his life, it's appropos. Nina's is smooth, sultry, confident. VA is excellent, as always from these two, but leads to my only criticism. Sometimes Nick's narrative seems a little hurried, and/or sounds a *bit* too much like it's being read from a page, but it's only a minor flaw, and not enough of one to hurt the overall review.

WHAT'S MISSING (Editing): When you don't notice the cuts, you know it's a h*lluva editing job, and this is the case here.

Overall: An easy 5 Stars. Well Done!

Wow! I watched Nick´s prologue first, went to see Nina´s, came here, watched Nick´s again... I love what you two are doing! This is fresh and intriguing, a very noir feeling to it.. the subtle differences in the movies.. the way we get to know the characters by hearing what they think about each other.. we´re always a little ahead of them! This is a great idea, can´t wait for the main event!

I watched Nina's perspective first, and since both prologues are very similar, the review I gave for Dulci's version applies here as well. In fact, if it wasn't for the time difference, I could have sworn that both movies had the exact same shots. Perhaps in this version the shots were the same but the camera lingered on certain aspects that are more pertinent to Nick'sperspective a little longer than they did in Nina's. A very good job by the both of you, and I look forward to the feature presentation.
