amazing mods. wasnet too strong on the story and could have even had MORE action, but still the mods were GREAT. if it had been longer, had more story, and had voice overs, it would be perfect.

One of the best action films I have seen yet on TMO. Great pace/editing, fantastic choice of music, exquisite background/setting, and professional freecam use/positioning. A most impressive display of directorial vision.

That was amazing! It really looked like 16th century China. The story was a bit weak and overused, but that didn´t matter. The climbing seen was awesome! The fighting scenes have all been seen before, and with some freecam and editing, you could have make them look fresh. Otherwise great work! I couldnt believe that it was possible to make these movies on TMO.

GREETINGS FROM L.M.A.O. STUDIOS!

A good action revenge film!

THE GOOD: Great use of music, the scenes were pumped up and exciting with them. The editing and direction was fast paced and entertaining. A great take on a classic Chinese "kung fu theater" movies!

THE BAD: Some technical issues lost the star. The "black" interruptions in the final fight scenes, off sync sound effects and an apparent lack of final editing polishing. PM us for some help with the off sync. Most films without VO's earns four stars with us.

A fun, entertaining and a cool film to watch.

World Network Review

Remember we said brutally honest mcrispster. I have to start off by saying this was a little too short to build up any depth. There was too much yapping and too little action. Because it was so short any conversations were mostly futile as they didn't build up any atmosphere and had little expression. The dialogue was pretty well written though, nothing special but it wasn't flawed. The music built up some action and suspense though but once again it was nothing special. The story was flawed due to the shortness of this movie but it was above average and had credibility and was a nice little "dynasty warriors" sty-lee. The lack of VAs was disappointing but they were not necessary. But for some reason this felt more like a mod showcase, now the mods were well made and looked beautiful but it didn't really have the feel of a movie. There was too much free cam action looking at every crevice of the sets and characters walking around than anything with substance. The clever editing was good though, the mountain climbing scene was excellently pulled off and looked remarkably real (However hits added to the fact it was more of a mod showcase than a movie) and I loved the ending. I absolutely loved the way the iron dragon flew off the mountain I was torn between laughing and wowing. However the ending was surprisingly abrupt, this also added to the state of showcasing and not movieing. It was so abrupt it left me thinking why the hell it ended so quickly. I mean was that it, he avenged his mothers death but there was no more. You should perhaps have extended it and showed what had happened to Ping afterwards. So a good movie with some fantastic mods, great and clever editing but too short and has little depth. But a good movie overall just the shortness ruined it.

Colin Gaiser, the "TMO Tournament"

Wow, incredible film! The best use of mods, scenery, and props I've ever seen, even better than "Pilate." The fight scene was editied perfectly, and although the ending felt a little stunted, there really wasn't much left to say. Best martial arts epic on TMO!

This is the movie that finished ahead of mine in the 8eyedbaby hotpick lol:-)
This is a great little film.I think you did a fine job capturing the atmosphere of those type of movies, and you did a fantastic job with the set-decoration and especially the scenes which simulate his ascent up the mountain, well done:-)
Much deserving to finish first.
Sorry I watched it but didn't review back then,as I did with all the movies on the hotpick list.

Wow, abrupt ...

To be honest that is all that sticks with me, I have seen many movies on this site and this one could have been amongst the best, the only problem was you spent about 2/3rds of the film introducing people and events, and then compressed the montage, revelation and dramatic conclusion into one third of the movie, which is totally unrepresentable of the actual way this movie should have played out.

The montage and the introductions were perfect length, but i felt when he got to the top of the mountain he needed to do something else ... it seemed ... i don't know ... to easy maybe? he should have spent longer training and getting this bond or something with the sensai.

I guess the main problem was the dramatic conclusion ... it was to short ... I mean the whole film builds up to it and what did we get?

The sensai changes to the Iron Dragon, then there is one karate scene, one knife scene and then a quick upper cut, falling - the end... It just felt like i'd been cheated ... the dramatic conclusion just needed to have that extra bit of length, i don't know maybe he catches the sensai with a punch and the sensai runs off whilst he chases after? you know the usual kind of thing ...

Other than that, the music was fantastic, editing was smooth, it was s shame there was no voice acting though, there is a large pool of voice over talent that could have been pulled on, but the dialogue was good enough on its own to over come any deficiency in that area.

Idea: 7/10
Script: 7/10
Sound: 10/10
Editing: 8.7/10
Thrill factor: 6.8/10

Overall: 39.5/50

There is no doubt this is a great movie, it was well produced, and some of the sets were beautifully made, I'd like to say an adrenaline pumping masterpiece, but by the time my adrenaline got pumping it had finished ...

Excellent movie! Although I'm sure you already know that, considering all the rave reviews you have gotten. Great use of mods and sets, excellent camera movment, catchy story line, and great action!

With all of that said, I do have a problem or two with some of the things within the film, but these are not from a technically stand point; more like personal pickyness.

1) There's no such a place as Shaolin, China.
2) Sensei is Japanese, not Chinese.
3) There are no Ninjas in China (Dispite of what you might of heard).

Other then these small quibbles, the movie is perfect. Two thumbs and both toes up!

A nice story, even though I think it was a bit rushed towards the end. However, there were good backdrops and nice effects. You've chosen music that fits the story in a great way.

This one was really good though, and I enjoyed watching it. With voiceovers this one could have been really great. You show potentional, so keep on working!

***MoMc Review***

This movie had a distinct feel to it, and I enjoyed watching it.

I think it could have been more powerful if the characters had been designed more appropriately in StarMaker; more asian for one and the teacher could have been older. Costumes were well-chosen, as was the music. Some interesting direction - although there was one scene that felt inconsistent to me. While the teacher and student were talking about the mountain, it became the backdrop; then they started walking and the backdrop was the original location where he found the teacher.

There was one character, a man, at the beginning who was killed and it was never explained who he is. The scene with son and mother was touching.

3.9/5

A solid action movie with some creative use of mods and special effects. The plot at the start had all the right elements... but it just didn't flow together. Even the music, which I thought was an excellent choice, failed to make up for the pacing/directing weakness. The next segment with the sensei was better, again with good music and a decent script. The mountain-climbing segment was creative, and the showdown at the end was done well though with some strange blackouts.

On suggestions for improvement, the directing could have been improved and there was plenty of opportunity for character development in the dialogue but these were not utilized as well as they could have been. As it was, the characters came across as one-dimensional and uninteresting, and even their facial features were not appropriate for the Chinese feel. Overall, I thought this was a solid action movie with the highlights being the creative use of mods/effects and the excellent use of music.

All right, where to start? There were quite a couple of things wrong with this movie that pretty much sucked out any ability for me to enjoy it, I'll just list them down and hope that they get fixed in the future.

1.) Spell check your subtitles, the word is sensei, not sensai. There was a lot of terribly written dialogue, cliche boring story, and no real memorable characters.

2.) Lack of attention to detail, I've never seen so many westerners in a Chinese Kung Fu movie. I was expecting to see some Asian people, or at least ONE Chinese person, there was none of that. Sure sometimes that can't be avoided, but if you're going to make a movie based in China during a period where there's no chance in heck you would find an English person, at least use stars who are chinese! If you went out of your way to download mods for a Chinese set, then at least do it for your actors too!

3.) There were moments of black that were not intentional, and then there were some moments of black which WERE intentional and then looked awful. The mountain scene where it starts flashing black, awful, you couldn't even tell what was happening. What it looked like was a huge editing mistake, like something was going wrong with the PC, even though that's not the case.

4.) Santa Claus is not a sensei.

5.) There is a falling scene where the sky is at one point, scrolling correctly. Meaning the clouds are faced horizontally and they are shooting up vertically to show that the man is falling, he is also in the proper pose. Then, the falling scene is shown again except now the clouds are facing downward vertically which makes it look like the camera is resting on its side, yet the man is still falling in the same direction! The sky does not change direction! It looks awful in the movie.

6.) The Final Fantasy sound track was lame and against the rules. I don't care if you so called got it from "newgrounds" that sound track is a direct rip off of Final Fantasy. So not only was it corny to use in the film but you're also breaking the rules by using it.

In the end, I really don't understand how this got hot picked or why it has such a high star rating, but it sure doesn't deserve that many stars. I hope you take into consideration these issues in the future, and please try to avoid using copyrighted music in your movies.

I loved the use of props and backdrops in this movie. The cherry blossom trees against the sunset really stood out; if you had done something comparable with a real studio and big budget, I can imagine it being a real art house piece.

Good choice of music, too - I'm guessing you've seen your fair share of anime because you really nailed the audio.

Please tell me because I have to know - how'd you get the pagoda in the movie?! Isn't that part of the Stunts & Effects expansion? I've always wondered if the buildings from the movies itself could be ported into the simulator...

I watched this back to when it was up for a hotpick, but I didn't feel like coming back here and reviewing: cause you know, I'm lazy as hell. But here I'm saying how [oh please!]in' sexy this is. Backdrops and settings all the colors meshed into one untra hip (not really the right word) beutiful landscape. That's only the tip of the iceberg, the camera movements and [oh please!] made it look even better. Story, is tried and true but still cool as crap!

Awsomeness!

What a beautiful film with beautiful sets and camera angles. The classical story of "Bad guy destroys village, boy trains to get revenge" What a way to make it feel authentic and make my eyes open to many possibilities. Excellent Job! I noticed some really good scene/set usages. Innovative even. Music was not the best match, but did not detract. VOs would have set this on fire. Good use of Sound Effects. Characters lacked solid development, but you had enough. I saw only one minor editing glitch, during the knife fight scene there seemed to be a blank spot. Overall score 46 of 50. 45+ is a five star movie.

A classic chop-sockey story well done with some nice special effects. Who did the music that was very good? But there were a couple of camera shots that could have been more effective. The fight scenes could have been made better, I realize that a KungFu movie has to have the fights...but will all the special modding, I was hoping for something a bit fresher.

QUICK REVIEW: Oh dear oh dear. This was as bad as my martial arts movies and they were done 9 months ago. Have we not learned about story and plot in these last months? This was a terrible movie with one of the worst premises, full of plot holes and no real thread.

To me it gave the impression you had loaded up the game, got a few mods and made a movie on the fly with not much thought. The type of stuff my 9 year old son makes when he is playing with the game.

I??m surprised by the amount of 5 stars this has got because there were movies better then this being made in December of 2005.

From a constructive criticism point, my advice would be to write the story/script first before going anywhere near the game.

I enjoyed the film a-lot, as it was filled to the brim with great action and some really excellent scene editing. That final fight scene at the end was great...while most of these kung-fu action scenes end up being overly repetitive, the cuts, editing and fantastic free-cam use allowed to come together excellently. Great job. And I really loved the music. Could you PM me with where you found that music during the mountain-climb scene?

All-in-all, excellent film. No doubt about it, except I wish it was a bit longer and gave some more detail about the sensei, as his fate and ending seemed somewhat random. By the way, did you use the name I sent you (I posted that Ping meant stable when you asked for names)? Or did you think of it on your own?

Anyways, F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C MOVIE!!!!

It was very good. One of the best martial arts films on TMO but unfortunately it really could've bee longer. I can't really call it epic if it lasts for 6 minutes. If you'd elaborated a little more this movie would've been awesome but I'm still not going to take a way a star because the 5 minute movie (that wasn't very epic) was still good.

I really enjoyed this movie. Good use of scenes and sets, the set dressing was very precise. The music was great too and really added something extra to the film. Excellent editing and camera work also. Top Banana!

That was an amazing kung fu film!
The best parts by far, were the music, which really added to the atmosphere, and the final battle, it had some sweet special effects. Film On!
