A great and thought-provoking message. It also makes a change that one of the best VA's on TMO takes a back seat and uses subtitles. But the subtitles still put across the message perfectly, and hand in hand with the music, made an atmospheric, almost dark film. Beautiful.

I absolutley love the message in this movie. It's almost impossible to actually know a person. And all too often do we see what we want to see in someone. Our own personal wants and biases get in the way of seeing the true person. I would have to say that very few poeple actually know me. Although several think they do based on their own preconcieved notions and assumptions, very few actually do. I know that its true for almost everybody. It's never correct to just assume what a person is like.

Let me quote on of my personal heroes:??There??s a very big division between what??s in the public eye and what you feel about yourself. I never saw in myself what other people saw in me.??-Audrey Hepburn

A poignant look at the way the person under that facade can be lost and at the way we redefine those around us to suit our needs. Skillfully done and a real treat to watch, perception glides gracefully and serenely past with a dark, possibly even angry undertone.

Wow.

This short is amazing on a number of levels. First of all, you really seem to have a great appreciation for the short as something different than a traditional length narrative. The freedom and limitations that the different medium provides and how to really harness it.

The choice of shots, directing and editing here are absolutely superb, inspired. I really am quite giddy about the quality of this.

Hmm, interesting watching this film a year on. Nothing's changed I see, same old stereotypes film after film after film. Festus summed up my views in his review a year ago, it could have been written yesterday.
Do something different please.

I agree with Greenglades. The premise is a good one, but the ending left me hanging. You did a good job of showing me how others saw your main character, but did little to show how she saw herself or what the reality was.

A very well done short Dulci!! I love the way that the music expresses what the movie is trying to say without subtitles/vo's!! I loved your choice of music, nice use of subtitles and I liked the way in which you showed how people are perceived by others, that was done very well done!!!! Great job Dulci!

Interesting... in all what this word can have of positive and inspirating.
We see what we want to believe, yes, we create our own reality and the perception of it. How do you see yourself? Like you are? Or how people would like you to be? Is fantasy blurring reality? Or is reality blurring fantasy?
... :)

An interesting presentation about perceptions and how people are perceived. Well done, with good imagery and good musical scoring in the background. The beginning interpretation is good, but the ending becomes a little confusing by raising a few questions. Why does she see her self as different people in the mirror> Does she perceive herself as others perceive her? Does she have her own identity? The imagery goes along with the film but does create some ambiguity.

Overall film score: 3.
Poetic Film rating: +1

That was great. Brilliant soundtrack, excellent use of the camera to demonstrate viewpoint - and I loved how there was always the question as to which (if any) of the people we were seeing was actually the person who was being seen. A complex, thought-provoking movie, told within two minutes and without any voices used whatsoever. Remarkable.

Excellent editing, freecam work, and overall message. Tightly shot, no extraneous moments, a beautiful, haunting short piece that really makes you think. Watch it, then watch it again.

Dulci is one of the best VA on tmo, she is the right person.

on to my review

As you know Dulci i am a BIG fan of yours, and i was expecting to hear your beautiful voice, but alas no, but fear not i was suprised and quietly amazed by your film, it left me trying to imagine what you look like, which is im sure the point of it. One thing i would like to point out beauty is not always in the eye but also in the ear.

This is a message that has preoccupied my mind quite a bit
And this movie so beautifully illustrates the many questions one asks themselves
This is perhaps the deepest 2 minute movie I have seen. The surface may seem
To ask only the one question but there is so much more that that in this film
You have a profound voice that is heard clearly in this movie.
I could get carried away here with the whole philosophy here but I will instead say thanks for creating such a mind enlightening film

well..the quality of this movie for me stands in its construction, quite unusual from what we try to do here : no beginning, no end(?), even no story... we're just trapped in a situation, nothing more, a situation a bit familiar, that kind of thoughts we all had one day... yes, let's end like that with my poor english, this movie is a common thought we all had..thx for having put images on it!

So that's what a famous TMO Voice Actor, make questions about those -we, the TMOers- who imagine her. And she used subtitles this time, she dropped one of her best weapons -her voice- to make us think more about the message.
Nice short movie, that shows more than we can see.

Simple, to the point, modernist short. Asking question on perception. Is it what you see? Is it what you want to see? Is it what you know others want to see and change to adapt to different thoughts, reality and meaning?

Another wonderful personal movie from Dulci :)

Dulci, you are my kind of director! Wonderful film! I love the message being brought across. Sometimes, even if you are with a person for a long time, friends or such, you still don't know at all everything about them. Sometimes, even the person doesn't understand themselves all the time.

Great choice of music that fit perfectly, perfect subtitling and choice of dialogue! If you can, as I think you are one of the best directors on TMO, please watch my recent horror film An Eye for An Eye. I know how you like horror, and it would be an understatement to say I would be honored to be reviewed by you.

WONDERFUL JOB!

Everyone comes across in different ways to different people. We form (often incorrect) opinions about people we've only just met or hardly know based purely on how we perceive them. Someone's public persona isn't necessarily the same as their private one. There is far more to a person than first meets the eye.

For a movie that is only 2mins 11secs long, this has more layers and is more meaningful than a lot of movies several times it's length. The music soundtrack here is an excellent choice. The use of subtitles rather than VOs is a masterstroke, you are made to concentrate on the movie. Yes, it is short but it deserves your full attention.

Yeah... Anyway... That was good, but again, there was nothing custom about it (Except for the music, I think), and there were no voiceovers. But it was pretty original, and it had a decent message. It was thought provoking, though. The only thing is that it wasn't very interesting. It was pretty boring if anything. Anyway, I'd give it a 7/10!

Very interesting subject for a movie. I think it's not just about how other people see us, but also how we see ourselves differently than others do, and how we sometimes haven't got a clue why some people like us or want to look at us. Well that's what I got from this anyway, especially by the women posing in front of the mirror.
Reading the reviews here, there are many different ways in which this movie is interpreted, which is good I think.

Another very good, short, introspective piece that you seem to excel at. I liked the visual style and editing of the film especially. The music also did it's job in enhancing and contributing to the mood which you tend to do very well. I will not attempt to attach meaning to it as I believe that the viewer walks away from the film with their own thoughts irrespective of what may have been the directors true intention. A very nice film Dulci

I just happened to catch this because of the poster on the front page happened to be showing as i logged on.... turns out it's a new flick from Dulci..right on :)

First off this movie is beautifully shot....

secondly the absense of voice overs does actually let us determine our own thoughts.

as for my thoughts:
Our own self perceptions can often be even more harsh or praising than that of the outside world. A spurious existence... meanwhile social standing being the all important measuring stick of our successes and shortcomings..

Dulci, i love how you always have a fresh approach to every subject that you bring forth....

first class all the way

mmm interesting...nice film good music..I think how you act and to a great extent what you wear says alot about you as an individual..people say dont judge a book by the cover , but I feel a cover says alot a book, and its the cover that usually gives you some idea on what the book is about. Nice film and good concept.

Te[be polite!]ally, this movie had a great sense of pace (or maybe a certain rythm in the succession of scenes), and you managed to integrate the music very well.
I liked the subtle integration of the plot (if you could call it that), that also was done pretty well.
However, the only thing that there is to the meessage or plot is "how we see a person depends on ourself". I am missing some exploration of this message. Is this true only for this woman, or for everyone? Is the image she sees hersef as her actual image or just her own perception? How or why do we do we "modify" our perception that way?

Don't get me wrong, you made a creative and subtle piece of art, but I found it a bit too static - as in only presenting one statement without exploration or questioning - to get out my highest marks.

A great lesson that I hope people will learn from. I have been trying to get people to understand this for years now. I think you really showed it well on film. I truly loved this film. And this is exactly why I will not say someone is truly beautiful unless I know who they are really. Never love someone for who you want them to be. Love them for who they are, and you'll be a better person from it.

It was excellent. I think it speaks volumes about perception in general. It is amazing, often we hear stories about how the world forces the perfect "look" and size on people. I think this commentary tells us, no reminds us, that the most important opinion about ourself is our own.
Very well done.

I really loved the music in this.

Even though this prevokes thought, it doesn't really go anywhere. IT seemed more like a trailer to a bigger movie. I think it needed something more.

Your movies are always great, but due to the length and lack of any closure or real plot, it just falls a little short. Maybe I just rate you harsher than most because I know what you can do.

The music really set the mood though. I thought that was the best part of the flick.

Editing 4/4 : This movie looked pretty easy to edit. There was little consistancy between shots, but there wasn't exposed to be. I could say that some scenes could take a little trimming and some a bit of expanding, but overall there is nothing really wrong with the editing.
Dialogue 3/3 : The dialogue is more of a narrative style, and it fits for what you are trying to do. Didn't have any problems getting what you are trying to put across.
Plot/Originality 3/5 : Plot, well there wasn't much of one. It was meant to promote thought and does that moderatly well. It's original and I can give you credit for that. A surprise at the end showing what she really is like might have been a better choice for an end, as it was I never really knew what she was really like..
Entertainment 4/5 : Overall I found it entertaining, but it needed something more. The end left you wondering but didn't give a sense of closure. Now if this was a prelude to a series that could be a good thing, but I get the idea this is the entire movie.
Music/Sound 3/3 : Nice music to back up the visuals.
Total : 17/20 - 5 stars - Excellent

I totally got that. It is something I feel very strong about. The fact that we take people on looks, rather than on themselves.

Now this is a movie i can relate to, i often find it fascinating to hear what people think of other people that they actually know nothing about. Looks can be very deceiving and i make sure i never judge people on first impressions. Fact is, when people meet each other on the internet and talk without seeing each other, i guess sometimes a mental picture forms and sometimes it does get exaggerated.

Great movie and the music fit into place really well, i enjoyed it and it was quite thought provoking.

Good concept film, but the message is lost amidst the questions. The proposition never becomes quite answered. The ultimate reasons for differing perceptions aren't presented but the circumstances are laid out quite nicely for that opportunity. I see your point but miss the inherencies. In the end, though, it was a pleasant bit of art and I enjoyed watching it.

Descartes personified, never forget scrutiny though?

Reading this I'm not entirely sure if this is how we see each other or how we see ourselves? Sometimes this is the problem because if we don't know who we are how can we expect to know how to pereive others. There the Journey should begin.

I think I've travelled this journey with lots of people, how often do we whinge because what we see our enemies do and turn a blind eye to what we ourselves do and also our friends, family and lovers. Sometimes we have to rely on perception because without it there would be too many questions, too much thought, we would run the risk of ending up by ourselves, people like that tend to over analyse things. They even become neurotic.

Is anything real? Who knows, what I do know it this movie made me happy. Happy in that you again put yourself out there (possibly more than people will think), again you've made me think with a movie and again I am very very impressed. This movie is a simple idea, put together with some very deep and meaningful thoughts. This make it powerful. I feel I now know you that little bit more because of this.
