Film Description
One of the only movies on TMO to star a dog!

When a cop's brother is murdered, the only hope for solving the case is...Man's Best Friend.

Thanks to 8eyedbaby.com for some of the music(and sherwinliu and skunkfunk for uploading it)

Even though it says S&E this movie was NOT shot with S&E. I installed the EP before I exported the final version but the movie uses nothing from the EP.

Feel free to leave any constructive criticism. Hope you enjoy!

Whoa! What a surprise! This is a captivating story expertly told, and very very close to perfection, given the plot. And while the story was pretty straightforward, except for one little twist, it is the journey through the story that amazed me. Never for a moment was it dull or boring (something that inevitably happens in most TMO movies of this length), and every scene seemed to be fresh and enticing.

Particularly interesting are some of the camera positionings, which really help to make everything seem new.

This is by far the best new movie I have watched this round, which turned a story that seemed to be cliche into a fascinating example of how effective this game engine can be when used by those who know how to use it.

Week Five at MOMC has been somewhat? lackluster. When I saw this movie with just one review ?? about a man and an adopted dog, I groaned. I mean, come on, I watch Lynch, Kubrick, and weird French films just to pass the time. Nonetheless, I downloaded, lit a cigarette, and watched.

Director/Studio Darryhick caught me off guard. Without giving away the plot, I found myself laughing, wincing, and saying ??awwww,?? ?? and that ain??t Yogurt King. The directing sequences are eloquent, the character development subtle but infectious, and the story line quaint with an undertone of real human emotion.

It??s certainly worth mentioning that using TM to make the dog so prominent as the star. Take it from me, I did it with a Christmas tree but didn??t pull it off like Darryhick does. A wonderful film, that will draw sentimentality out of you without any cheap tricks.

The drawbacks? Given the story and genre, generally insignificant, but certainly worth noting for humor??s sake ?? Again, without giving away too much storyline, will the courts really accept the dog??s testimony, or moreover, the cop whom partnered up with him? I would love to see the courtroom drama sequel after this one. ;-)

A well done film, all around. Tasteful use of camera angles, knowing when and what to shoot, without overdoing it. Enough said, I??m saving this one on my hard drive.

Great movie. unlike some films I have been watching here I didnt once think 'come on get on with it'. I just sat back and enjoyed. I liked the part at the very end where you toyed with our minds making us believe the dog died (y he wud b actually buried in the same cemetary as the brother I dont no :) but still it was an all around good movie and the subs didnt bother me.

I love it! I simply love it! And I simply love dogs! I can definitely see why this movie has been hot picked.
It was a great story well told, with great dialogue and FABULOUS dogs! The plot was smart and clean (paper trained?) and I liked the custom titles (with the cow)... The music was pretty good as well. Oh, and thank god you didn't make the dog die.
In short it's a rare movie, briliant work! (I marked it as 'favorites' on my hard drive) Make more movies like this!
(sorry for the short review)

Sincerely,
Kubusundu the Great

Thank you for your time.

Just when I thought I saw everything there was to see on TMO, along comes this gem. A great concept, brilliantly executed (with a few surprise twists to boot). This is a perfect family film with laughs, thrills, and touching moments on the caliber of professional theatrical releases. A very worthy 5 stars.

Okay, I'll admit it, I secretly enjoy a good cop-n-dog movie -- Turner and Hooch, K9 Cop, even the lackluster Top Dog -- all of these films have a strange, almost beguiling charm that always takes me aback. So when I found this hidden gem, I nearly had a heart attack; it was as if someone read my mind and learned all my hidden guilty pleasures. Next thing you know, you'll be making movies about strawberry cheesecake and Barbara Streisand's music. :oP

All right, kidding aside, this is an unexpectedly charming film, completely unpretentious and marvellously concieved. You actually made me FEEL for a "character" normally used as a prop in most movies. That, alone, shows that you are remarkably talented as a filmmaker. But the way you put this familar story together and made it uniquely yours was an absolute treat; your control over everything actually made me take more consideration into a story we might think of as a pithy matter. That one moment at the end at the cemetary was especially moving... and the ending was a pure knockout.

Excellent work. I'm glad I miraculously found this jewel of a film.

A man sets out to solve his brother's murder, together with his new best friend.

The introductory section was done well to show the characters and some of their personality. The remainder of the first half progressed in a fairly predictable manner, until a string of unlikely coincidences set the dog as a hero. The drugs made sense if you assume a good sense of smell, but the other two meetings were just too 'lucky' to hold the plot together (there was absolutely no reason for either of those meetings to occur other than dumb luck -- which is a bad thing to base a plot around). Likewise, there was no explanation of how the cop knew where the guy would be coming back to collect his stuff, and even if he did find him he had no evidence (that we were aware of) that he was linked to the brother's murder other than that he was involved in drugs. The emotional ending in the graveyard was good.

I won't go into the other technical aspects of the movie much, though I agree with most of the other comments posted here and will mention a few briefly (well done for creative use of the dog, some editing and clipping issues, sound sync towards the end, use KirinRiotCrash's mod to remove the shadow from the stage for backdrop shots).

Overall, I thought that this was a very creative and unique movie on TMO. All the best for the future.

Critical areas:
Plot/Storyline: Typical "dog saves the day" buddy partner plot. The storyline is well written for this standard plot.

Editing: A few areas where the dog prop goes through the car door or is in the ground. Other than that very good scene choices. Well edited film creating the character of Jake as a good addition to the film. Subtitles were done very well. The musical choices were very good and used effectively to add to the feel, emotion, and action of the scenes.

Pacing: Good cinematic vehicles used for plot revelations, drama, and suspense.

Overall: A quality film which takes the viewer on the case to find the murderer. Full of suspense and drama. I must admit I wasn't expecting this to be as well done as it was.

Good music choices, and an interesting plot.

When the dog takes off running, it would be nice to get some indication of what set him off. I think that would have enhanced the storyline.

While I enjoyed your use of the dog prop - there were times when it just didn't work for me. When he was riding in the car with the police officer, the animation had his head going through the car door.

The subtitles were mostly well-done. A few occasional flickerings. Sometimes the animations didn't match up with who you indicated was speaking at the time.

**This is a review for MOMC**
*MOMC Score = 4.1*

At the end of this film i walk away with a nice fuzzy feeling. After trying to erase the scene when they're driving and the dog's head is out the window i'm left in shock. I did not expect a film like this, from the begining i was not captured. The intro where we discover the brother died is rocky, starting a film off with an emotionful line when we hardly discover the characters is tough.

But the film went on, and i saw what was hapening. I saw the emotion of the character and good devolopment of a guy who just missed his brother, but the use of editing and scenes as well as the creative placement of the dog prop made it seem like the dog was a character. I felt as connected to the dog, the loyal furball the stuck with him.

And then the dog started pulling lassie moves, and i can't say i wasn't surprised. My critism is that this is two movies, not one. You have a great emotional begining but after he starts catchin' criminals the film evolves in the wrong direction. I honestly think that if you cut this in half with two shorter films you'd be looking at a great emotional film followed by use of new character relationships.

The action just seemed uneeded and you brought it from one side of the spectrum to the other too quickly. I left the film with a fuzzy feeling as i reflected on the more emotional parts of the film i thought about my dog, and any movie that makes me do something like that is 5 star material. But the two edged plot makes me take off enough points to become a 4.1 - 4 Stars but, i am torn so i'll give the compliment of nice film, because u deserve it.

Running in at 13 mins I was prepared to rate that long of a dog-buddy movie with a low score because I didn't believe it could keep my interest ( no fault of your own - just the genre it self ). And I must say I am impressed. While the beginning was very slow - up after the point he catches the mob boss- and when the dog becomes a more active player in the story it became a lot more appealing ( also at this point the music started to play well with the movie and not detract from it).

Great cutting and continuity despite having to put a dog in every shot! I thought this movie was going to be jump shots galore since the dog had to be in it but thankfully you gracefully moved around it. The only detractor for me for this movie was some of the dialogue.

Phrases like "I'll let you out" and "I'm a cop" are wooden and awkward. This is information the audience always knows or will know within seconds ( as well the characters being told these things ). When you state something that is obvious it appears redundant and feels more like a device to tell the audience we should know - when we already know.

Aside from that - great movie and I hope to see more from you! Oh yea - nice little touching and twist ending. Even though every dog-cop movie has taught me the dog never dies ( sans Turner and Hooch ) I still thought the ending you used was well executed.

It's almost like if Lassie joined the police, good storytelling. And without a ghost, zoombie or santa swirling around in the graveyard, that was probably the most realistic funeral I've seen in any TMO movie. Good choice of costumes and music.

Great job! It was a nice story and well told.

The only issues I had with it were Lionhead's fault not yours. Like the dog's walking looking too much like a horse or when his head was going through the car door. But you did a good enough job on the story that it outshined the technical mishaps of the game.
