Film Description
This is a true story. Have you a love that you lost and cannot forget? A young woman tries to escape the repression of the midwest in the 1960's. I want young women and men today to understand how very difficult relationships were only 30 or 40 years ago and how quickly all that changed. In spite of the wars, terrorism, violence and polution today, it really is a much better world for women and men. This is a director's cut of my original movie. I shortened it and it runs much faster. Also there are new re-colored sets. All the voice acting is by myself. I thank so much the musicians of Newgrounds.com for the beautiful music for my movies. I also thank the wonderful reviewer's of the original movie who inspired me to update this and really perfect it. There is about 500 hours labor in this short film. I think you will enjoy it.

Comments regarding the reviews: The voice acting. I just do not have any one available who can act at all to help me out. I have lots of people who want to do voices but they cannot act so I would rather do it myself. And that is a real challenge with men's voices and I know the male movie makers here find the same challenge when trying to do female voices. As far as the choppiness of some of the cut scenes, free camera in the new S & E will really help with this. And also some of the scenes that we are given with this software are really, really corny (well the designers of this program are from England so that explains the corniness). So I like to cut out the corny parts.

I am very happy that you all got the "women's liberation" thing. In the 50's and 60's women in the US were treated like Geishas, especially in the midwest. Today an older man plying an 18 year old with booze and taking her to a hotel would get arrested. During those times it was quite common. Young women today are so strong and have so much more saavy about relationships and the business world. I really applaud and admire them. But this grew out of what we women of the 60's went through.

In this story, all the characters, except the young woman, and her husband, ruined their lives through business failures and booze. The characters from the wealthy family all failed. The man, David, who actually had so much potential (he obtained a BA in business in one year, had a miserable life). He was just as trapped by the repression of the times as the woman, but she escaped, he did not.

Regarding drinking, actually no one checked IDs during those times. Any teen could go into a bar and get a drink.

As far as the young woman and her various romantic encounters, she was able to compartmentalize the way men do. If a man she had a relationship with was out of sight, he was out of mind. Today we have "Sex in the City" and no one thinks anything of it. And in spite of her disappointment with David, she had a "heck" of a wonderful life and quite an adventure. At that time, she really was very unusual.

I plan to do more stories like this and I have a wealth of characters to draw from. I am so glad you enjoyed this movie and I really do plan to use all of your critiques in making my newest movie.

[I saw the original and I thought I had reviewed it, but the review is not there. Perhaps my mind is creating false memories. Oh well, here is my review.]

I'm always a sucker for movies based on real life, because the characters are... real. That said, if the author did not say that this was based on real life, I may have been tempted to dismiss it, saying, "That's stupid, real people wouldn't act like that." Which goes to show more about my limited experience than the movie, so I am pleased to have been able to take a brief glimpse through the window into another time and place.

One issue that detracted a little, and contributes to the dismissive comment above, is that some of the script had room for improvement. I can see what was the intention of the scene, but the script itself sounded stilted and unreal. The varying volume on the VO's was a little distracting (and sometimes hard to hear the words), and the lip sync didn't work. Also the timing on many of the VO's was rushed; there was not enough gap between the end of one VO and the start of the next. Visually there were some very nice moments, but also some distractingly jumpy editing especially in the various living room and kitchen scenes.

Despite all that, the plot, setting and characters shone through. I think that the changes from the original version to this version were an improvement, as this flows better and the shorter length makes it more accessible without removing any of the story.

This movie was right on the verge of 4 and 5 stars due to technical faults, but I'm rounding up because of the "based on a true story" aspect. All the best for the future.

I am absolutely stunned by the raw, loving and sometimes harsh film you have created here. Absolutely amazing. Its hard to find words that justify how brilliant this is.

The female voiceover is by far the best i have heard. Its husky, innocence conveys a great deal of sincerity and gives the idea that she has learnt much about the perills of growing up in a male driven society.

The whole film moved at a slow, and mesmerising pace which was so fitting, and managed to keep me glued watching every moment unfold as her life was revealed.

Theres just something about this which was compelling, maybe it was the way you brought the characters to life, or maybe it was the moving sentimental storyline. One thing is for sure, this is one of the greatest romance movies to ever grace TMO.

As I loved the first movie, this one also holds a special place in my heart. I must say I enjoyed the first cut more, but can see how much work and dedication you put into this movie as make it twice in different ways. Nice music choices and the story tugs at your heart strings, but keep in mind that even women of ??Today?? are still living in a world much like it was 30 years ago. A Wonderful movie that I recommend to all

A deliciously written film, full of sharp dialogue and painful truths that cut into the viewer throughout its long running time. This, by far, is my favorite type of film -- a slow, mediative, character drama where plot is given the cold shoulder in favor of character development and moments of personal introspection. And though this movie is not perfect, I was nonetheless enthralled, finding this slow and deliberate story ultimately rewarding in every aspect.

The feminist overtones of this work, whether they were intentional or not, were apparent and made me smile throughout. The struggle of women's liberation -- the way our hapless herione desperately tries to wriggle past the confines of her sex-class -- serves as the backdrops of this lovelorn story. Together, the two entwine and enrich your narrative right until the conclusion. Technically, I must applaud you on your prop and custom set use -- you really captured the many decades as they rolled on. Your sex scenes, in particular, were pretty impressive. You were able to make them sensuous and not tacky just with some subtle set dressing.

On the downside, the editing is kind of wobbly at times. Visually, the film stretches itself thin with some scattershot moments where shots don't seem to coorelate too well. The range of the VO acting also seems a little limited. Most of the voices were great and particularly distinct, but some of the men sounded a little... off. The husband, in particular, was distracting.

I was originally going to take off a star from my score because of the technical issues, but the story is too powerful to nitpick over these issues. This is a very good film. I can't wait to see more from you. :)

Top notch! This movie serves as both a social commentary through the advancing years as well as an intimate view into the life of the heroine; all done in a touching and moving way. It's easy to make a connection to the characters and develope empathy. Technically, the sets are fresh and original, the music is beautifully incorporated and adds much to the mood. The VO's, while appearing to be quite a challenge (for all of the parts--wow!) were well done. Hope to see more!

I've really nothing to add here that hasn't already been said.

500 hours work?
I can believe that...it really does show.

Stunning work on every level.

This movie has been on my viewing list for a long time, and I´m happy I finally made it here! I loved how you developed the story and the characters, they really became alive for me and the story was so obviously true, this is life! I also loved the set decorations, it all served to pull me in even more! And I think you´re absolutely right, even if we still have conventions today, life has become much easier, especially for women.. for men, it might have become a bit harder, because I sometimes think they´re not quite sure how to get along with a self-confident woman. Great movie!

I saw the original which always was a beautifull story. But this version takes it to another level.

I just noticed that this film was made without S&E. Watching it I was sure that it was. That says a lot about the film making.

I liked the changes made to the sets, along with the costumes changing over time. This all added realism to the movie.

Lucinda managed to avoid the cliche of all the voices sounding the same, which is a common problem when one actor does all the voices.

In the description of the movie she gave the reason for doing the VO's herself, that she couldn't find the right actors. I shall be appearing in her next movie, so I feel highly honoured.

The choice of music was a perfect fit to this tale.

For the era: I just about remember the 60's, and all of the clothing and feel seemed very authentic to me, for the 60's, 70's and 80's. It brought back a lot of memories for me.

The script itself was well crafted, and I always feel that real life is a great place to draw ideas from. Whether it is just one idea or the basis for a complete film like this one.

I wonder if the main character was based on Lucinda. I will be sure to ask her if I get her on the radio show. But it does show to me that she is a very interesting and deep person. I felt a connection to her in this film, and I liked what I found.

This film is the perfect romance.

Btw did I mention that I liked this film?

This movie is absolutely wonderful; a sleeper hit. I don't even remember how I ended up finding it, but I found the VOs, though rather silly, to be very effective. A great use of The Movies to tell a story. Will be looking forward to It's Them Sputniks.

Very touching film and I know the feeling of loving someone and not being with them it is something you carry forever and you think it will diminish but it doesn't and that place can never really be filled. Your portrayal of this type of love is excellent and the voice over is fantastic. I love the whole narration part and how it interchanges with actual dialogue. I was so engrossed in the story I never even realized its length.
I can see why this won an award

Oh and thanks for the offer for the VO but I probably wont be doing that movie over. I am currently working on one that I am having VO's in them and it is harder to go from a male voice to a female voice then the other way around
so lazy me I am just cutting a lot of the female scenes cause chipmunk voices don't quite make it LOL

10 stars for this film

A very well written movie. Looking pass the technical aspects of it, the story captures the heart with its lovelorn and feminism overtones.

Oh my gosh! You certainly had a lot of dedication to do all of the costume changes and all the script, all the VOs, and all the sets....etc. This was a fine flick! ---Pls rate one of mine, thanks!---

A top film. Because of the TV that came from America that I watched as a boy in 60s England I thought that the young lady's of American were more liberated than the ones in England. I think I might have been wrong.

Well at my young age it's a little hard to kee pup and understand movies like these. But I do know that it was a story of love and betrayal. I liked how the music played throughout. The only flaw to me would be only a few VO's were kinda ... but most were awesome. Great movie now go on the forums and show everybody whayt you can do.

The editing is perfect in the majoraty of the scenes, my only critasism was that I always find it better if you have subtitles and diologe because if you miss one then you have the other. Apart form that the story was just right and fitted perfectly

Rarely has a TMO filmmaker taken the comments of the reviewers so seriously that they actually refilm their movie in an attempt to improve upon it. The fact that you have taken such steps shows that you are serious about this film, and about what it means to you. Such personal dedication shines throughout this version. The new colored sets are a great touch, and the voice performances (considering they were all done by you) were great. Impressive work indeed in all aspects. I hope to see more films from you created with the same enthusiasm and care that you have taken in crafting this monument to past loves.

Beautiful film. Music was perfect. Prop placement, backdrops, and lighting all made it feel very natural. Some of the voices sounded a bit funny. I'm guessing you used some morphing on them. Excellent storytelling and even though I'm not a big romance fan I enjoyed this movie. Good luck on your GAGA nomination.
