Truth in advertising. A Darker Place Volume 2 pulls the rope even tighter for Kyle Black, with the surreal, nightmarish visuals of Purgatory finally closing in on our misguided protagonist. This, my friend, surpasses the raw intensity of the first part through the suggestion that there is more at work behind the veil clouding what the audience sees. I loved every second of it.

Imaginative, garish, and altogether unsettling, this film produces a hellish, apocalyptic atmosphere that works so well, you forget you're watching something from TMO. I loved the moral ambiguity of your script -- it's a risk taking story that pulls no punches and takes no sides. Enfolding darkness shrouds everything, and with such complexities bounding in every directions the viewer, at times, feels lost. Luckily, the dialogue in this film is incredible, deep, and impregnably philosophical. Everytime a character spoke, I was riveted. I could watch these characters just stand there and speak for hours and hours.

All in all, a hyperbolically good example of the horror genre. I wish there were more films out there this smart and atmospheric.

Bezzer36 continues his epic saga of Kyle Black and his misfortunes in purgatory. Yet again he delivers a craftful work perfectly seasoned with the spice of veteraned VO actors, intriguing soundtrack and editing. This film continues on with the high standards set from the original and is a Class A film. I look forward to every installment!

What a wonderful continuation to Volume 1. The story has gained in depth and the pacing and editing are just as stellar. In the heavy dialogue scenes the acting matches up nicely with the character's movements, and there is also some surprising ways to connect scenes. The dog attack sequence is also very exceptional. Great job here!

I had watched the non-VO version of volume 1 originally, so I must also compliment you on the excellent VOs in this volume. Very well done!

great work Bezzer,

Real fine dialogue. It builds the story at just the right pace. Makes me anticipate the next part.

Everyone involved with the voice acting were brilliant. Everyone seemed like they were really all together when they recorded the lines. Very believable characters.

The atmosphere was perfectly set by the music, the lighting and fog effects... there was only one occasion that i thought the lighting was off (when Kyle was searching the first time.... would have been much better, in my opinion if the scene was set in the dark)

The story is ultimately what really shines through.... As it seems to lead you into a downward spiral where the further you go the harder it is to come back. Very interresting and I anticpate the conclusion

Nice way of revealing the story bit by bit. Great effects, cool textures. The story didn't hold me entirely, the dialogue seemed long at the end, but then I have the attention span about as long as a pimple... nice work.

That was great. Totally involving storyline. VO's were great, very clear & understandable & the BG music choices were superb. Really set..a strange atmosphere for the movie. While not spine chillingly scary, still spooky & eerie enough to be called one of the great TMO Horror series..
Costumes were really well done & the editting/Scene choices top notch.
Good job done on an excellent Horror..again.

Wow again... this is a great story, very well told with riveting dialogues, great music and very smooth editing. The atmosphere is just beautifully haunted! But the best part for me is still the story, it pulls you in and makes you want to know what happens next! So now I have bookmarked your studio and hope the next part will be coming soon!

A dark story, one can see that you have putting a lot of work into it. I specially liked that scene with the dog's face in close-up, I was getting that swallowing reflex in my throat. This is such a movie that don't let you lose and it even haunted me for a while. So the horror atmosphere is here clear noticeable.

I would say a delectable horror masterpiece and I hope there will be A DARKER PLACE volume 3.

Darker Place 2 delivered with some style! This was an exceptional performance which took its quality to another level from the previous part of Volume 1. So many thrilling aspects including fantastic dialogue and gloomy elements.. The intro was set out beautifully? Gave it some great composure and an unexpected twist which gave the story a different perspective. Amazing technique used here, and only lifted with an exciting middle as the protagonist faces his dilemmas..

Characters were very well portrayed. Some great actors included and played a terrific job in their roles. And you did so well to implement them to set the atmosphere given. As the story progressed it certainly did play with the audiences mind on the subject matter. Very effective!

Loved all the extra props applied too, truly did add to the integrity of a intense horror. And the music was collaborated so timely, an incredible element portrayed perfectly which really suited each scene.

Overall, Such great dialogue put into perspective really well. I particually liked the middle scene where Kyle faced the Father. Fab job illustrating his weaknesses. Had some really intense moments and settled with a nice ending to begin the next part with a bang! Top effort Brezzer?

Great work! Im normally an unpatient one, but your movie kept my attention the whole time ! Very good VO's and backround music. Good dialogs (sometimes maybe a little bit long) and most of all an excellent story, that makes me looking forward to the next part!

The second installment in Bezzer36's film focuses more on the "Darker Place". We are given some more insight into Officer Kyle Black's plight.

Critical areas:
Editing: Scene construction continues to improve, however there still remain a lot of editing glitches - excessive fades, a few scenes which may have a slight overrun. I use fades as well and it is a hard choice as to which to keep in or not. The game forces our hand by limiting the transitions we can do. A good general rule is if the scene is continuous (i.e. location hasn't changed) don't use the fade unless for dramatic effect. Too many gives the movie the effect of watching a trailer.

Sound: I noticed the musical score had much more impact in this movie than the last. You paid more attention to matching the music with each image, scene, and feel at the time. A good casting of VA's which did a superb job for your vo's.

Pacing: Good slow reveals to keep the viewer interested and wanting to find out more.

Storyline/Plot:
A good plot revolving around redemption where all things are not clearly defined as good and bad. Donovan thinks his deeds were good as does Kyle Black both are wrong but at the same time their justifications are right.
Very good dialogue. Well written storyline. Good defining of Kyle's purgatory.
The problem I had with this category is a function of this being a series. Continuity - while the story did continue, we ended in Vol 1 with Kyle's task set to patrol purgatory and free/help tormented souls there. There wasn't any real tie-in with that unless we assume saving his daughter and wife fits in with this (but was not really related). We slowly learned more about A Darker Place, but didn't learn any more about our main character - (took off for character development).

These problems arise when we have a series, especially when the next film becomes technically better, the focus was on improving certain areas and sometimes either the storyline or characters are not fully realized.

Another good film by Bezzer and an excellent series which he has going. This film left me waiting for the next installment. Great job.

Can't imagine what was important enough to keep me away from the second installment of this delightful series...

Shades of "What Dreams May Come" here in this second installment, and further intrigue... Some outstanding voicework, atmosphere, and music come together nicely to compliment what continues to be a powerful and engrossing experience.

Orion has done a fine job of dissecting the technical and I will say that I often found myself nodding as I read his review below, but with this caveat: Every issue I could spot (with the exception of a couple of music overlays that ran a bit long, covering other things and ending up just shy of ideal) was the game's fault, and none were significant or important enough to interrupt the story's flow for me, anyway. This story... just keeps drawing me deeper, and I like it enough to see the forest over the trees.

You HAVE to PM me to the next installments, Bez. I simply must know what happens to our Mr. Black. Please, sir can I have some more?

OK straight to it:

Plot and Characterisation - 37/40 - The plot was interesting and had plenty of depth to it. There were plenty of unespected twists to keep it interesting. The characterisation for the priest was excellent, it was also pretty good for the wife and kid considering the small amount of time they were on screen for. The characterisation for the main protagonist was good but I think you could have added even more depth to it as his character is the main driving force of this movie. He is very interesting and is not all good which is good as nobody is perfect. The characterisation you have done for him is excellent I just would have liked it to be even deeper seeing as this film is so character driven.

Soundtrack, subs, SFX, mods - 17/20 - The soundtrack was very atmospheric but I thought you overused some of the music. The track used when he first meets the priest goes on for too long and the pounding drum beat gets repetitive and masks some of the other sound effects. Overall the music used really added to the atmosphere though. The SFX + mods used were minimal but added greatly to the overall experience. When the wife turns around with blood on her face it made me jump which is quite a rarity on TMO horror's. Well done, great use of mods/SFX there!
The VO's were quite good and delivered with a reasonable amount of emotion but to give even greater impact they needed to be really emotional. For example, we can see the daughter in the grave yard is scared but this needs to come over even more in her VO, don't get me wrong, the VO was good but to get an even greater impact it needed to be quite melodramatic. Also I felt that the main characters VO could have illuminated his insecurities more in the way he spoke, he was often too confident.

Dialogue - 8/10 - Generally excellent. The main thing I noticed was the gratuitous use of swearing in the conversation with the priest. Swearing was definatly needed for this scene but it was used far too much and therefore lost it's effectiveness and impact as it just felt like this character swore every other sentence so it failed to show the anger he was trying to get across in what he was saying.
You have written some pretty spooky and thought provoking dialogue for the priest, I really liked the way his character spoke.

Editing - 17/20 - Mostly very good but there were a few cuts that weren't too smooth, especially in the beginning where the cop is talking to his wife who is lying on the bed.
The pacing was mainly quite good but overall probably a little slow. In the sequence with the dog you could have had really fast flashing cuts to build up tension and given the sequence a greater impact.

Orions Bonus Marks - 9/10 - I really enjoyed this movie but it did not hold my attention as well as some do. Overall definately a great movie!

Total - 88/100
88% - 5 stars! Good job!

A very worthy sequel to the fantastic first installment. Now with the introductions and background taken care of, this episode focuses upon and explores the primary character's motivations and morality. These insights add to the already rich tapestry of Bezzer's Darker Place and draws the viewer deeper into his realm. The introduction of a new ally, and foe, hints of conflicts simmering and brewing--intriguing the audience into speculating what lies yet instore for our anti-hero. This is a masterpiece both technically and artistically, and is not to be missed.

Hmm... This really gave me something to think about. It was a very well put together film, as always. Loved the editing, the VOs, and the storyline. I liked the fact that you took the time to develop the character rather than keeping him on one level. I do think the opening scene did drag on a little bit longer than it should have, but it picked up very well. Great job.

I downloaded it to watch with my wife. I had been telling her about this for a while. We were enthralled with it. It had such a great sound. The sountrack to this was amazing.

DNR, Myshinator and Jackiethepeapod were unbelievable. They were so good. it seemed like a real movie. Great choices for these roles!

The editing was great throuhgout. I liked the editing where Kyle was talking to his wife. The screen kept flowing in on the scene and then out, then slowly in again. Some would say to put little scenes in between these edits to make it transition better. I liked the effect of it. It seemed sort of hypnotic.

The story is building towards, what looks like could be, a fantastic ending. The story is getting much deeper now. Lots of dialogue, but that's how I like having my story told to me.

Top notch effort on this. Great cast. Great all around production.

A Yeagmaster Approved Horror!!!!!!!!!!!
