Film Description
A serious movie about some of the events going on in the world today, and what we do about it. It is the story of Hope, a woman of incredible courage and determination, caught up in events she for which she was not responsible.

---
Runner-up in MoMc "BEST ROMANCE/DRAMA" catetory.

Many people have commented on the way that the media is presented in this movie, and the comments are correct. However, I when I made this movie I did not intend for the media to be the focus. The interviewer was intended to act as the foil against which to show the other characters. I urge viewers to give a little thought to all the characters portrayed in this movie, and the way that their lives are entwined, and ask the interviewer's question, "What kind of person do you think I am?"
- The interviewer
- The woman (Hope)
- The viewer
- The government soldiers
- The rebel soldiers

---
Full English VO.

Ignore the 'action' genre tag, this movie doesn't fit into any of the predefined genres. It is more of a documentary, entirely different to the lighthearted comedies that I usually make.

I was inspired to make this movie after reading about some of the current events in Africa, specifically in DRC. But such things are going on in many places right now, today, unseen and unheard. This movie is not about any particular situation, it is more about us -- we who sit in living rooms around the world -- and a story about Hope.

Others have said all that I could ever want to say; the abrupt and chilling ending, the simplicity of such a complete but very short story - it's more horrific than any horror movie ever could be. There are not words for how disturbing this is.

Touching & terrible story. Truly frightening as a woman and mother. The cold ending really made this more powerful & moved it up to Dulcilicious.

As a long-standing member of Amnesty International and FAN, I can safely say that the human rights violations depicted in this film -- both international and domestic -- are wholly real and not exaggerated in the least. How could I not celebrate a filmmaker on TMO who uses his films to explore these probing issues, scraping at the difference between genuine charity and the US tendency to sentimentalize, sensationalize, and then completely ignore once the token story has run its toll. This sort of apathy is not entirely unfamilar to someone with any background in human rights.

Which is why I'm giving this film five stars. It says so much with so few words that it really does transcend the software you made it on.

Originality: I haven't seen ANYTHING like this on TMO so far... 5/5

Storyline/Plot: A very good plot that has a great meaning, can't say that about very many movies on TMO,wasn't expecting it to end like it did! 5/5

Editing: The editing was very much above average, good work... :) 4/5

Subs/VOs: The VO's were done well. No breathing or bangs etc. Good work! And you had alot of emotion which helped the movie as a whole! 5/5

WOW Me/Wow Factor: Loved it,possibly one of the best films I've seen on TMO to date...I'm glad to see something with a meaning in real life around here....It was a bit short but short and sweet is good sometimes! ;)

Overall: 24/25 rounded off to 25/25 = 5*s Really Enjoyed this movie....

I think you're the viewer, sleepin' and just not givin' a sh!t. Not a bad film, good editing, not bad music, and a great overall concept. But something was missing... Perhaps a good ending? I have to go with Stoke on this 4*.

Brilliant movie about how lots of things done by the media is merely for appearances. Of course, we could generalize this to include lots of members of the human race as well.

A touching short movie, well done. And a good storyline, makes you think a little. You deliver this so well. The backdrops help also, I like the end, wasn't expecting it.

Again, another touching film. It is amazing how you could give such a powerful message in only 2 mins 18 seconds

This is a very moving slice of real life, with a brilliant twist.

Kos78's movies are of a consistently high standards, and although he is justifiably well known for his excellent 'Monday Nights' series, this is a serious short movie that should not be missed. Capturing the tragedy of civil war in the third world with the attitudes of the west, this is a must-see movie.

Story: 5/5 - Gripping and tragic
Editing: 4/5 - Mostly spot on - perfect for the story, but the ending was slightly awry
Production: 5/5 - Really good use of sets and costumes - kos78 demonstrates again that he can bend the locations to his needs
Dialogue: 5/5 - Very convincing 'news report' style narrative - well voice acted.

Very good - it just missed being a four star through lack of context and consequent lack of depth of your main character (and the intonation of the voice actor could have been a little better, I'm afraid, although the technical quality was high).

However, outstanding dressing and use of sets: some of the most innovative work in this area that I've seen, and a good, original idea, frought with topicality. An excellent effort, though: it was very close to having a fourth star.

There's alot of impact packed inside that 2 minutes. unfortunately it's a well observed piece of film making and represents the state of ignorance and laxiness we live in. A perfect example of how simple editing and minimal set use can portray a powerful message. it shows how we hide from reality, we all want to do more but it is so much easier not too. The only aid crys we heed are the ones that are the most orginal and interesting like the tsunami. Thailand has it's tourist trade, it will get back on it's feet, Africa is going backwards not fowards. In an age were the advancment in our standard of living have increased so dramatically this is a ridiculous situation.

***MoMc Review***

Very hard hitting emotional film. Illustrating how the west often sees the third world. We here about a bus in India crashing and 300 people dying in the accident. Our first thought is how did that get that many people on the bus. But if a young boy gets run over in your street it affects you deeply.

You get the point across very well that all life is precious.

Wonderful and eye opening movie. I really learned a lot - maybe a lot of things I didn't want to know. What I want to point out is the positive thing I got about it - the inner life and spirit of Hope (the woman). I really felt that coming through.

I am going to be the exception here and say I actually liked the shorter version better. It packed more punch, using dialogue instead of narration really heightened the impact of what happened to that poor woman. I never understood what the woman lying on the couch had to do with it, and the additional footage of her here confused me even more.

Simplicity at its best

Originality - 10
Plot/Story - 7
Dialogue - 7
Editing - 7
"wow factor" - 10

Overall - 41 - 4* This is a great message, and i wish you hadn't asked me to review it for my chart, otherwise this would have been a 5* for the message! :)

However it can't rate that overall for the chart for a few reasons, it was too brief, there wasn't enough of a back story of the woman, it was touched upon, and set the scene but there could have been so much more, like how did she escape?!

The ending though was supurb! :) Maybe needed a bit more of a emotion in the voice overs though ... but that is just my two cents and it doesn't detract from the movie at all! :)

Watched the one minute version of this and was impressed, I wondered if the longer runtime might be too much for it. It wasnt. I could not actually see were the extra time went, it was all so smooth and well paced, great editing on both versions. Great premise, hits home on more than one level and has a great script well delivered in the VO.
Very good and subtle ending.

MoMc review: 4.5/5.0

Call me a cynic, but at times it leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I see journalists?? coverage of world problems, especially when it is emotionalized, sensationalized. I often feel that others?? tragedies are golden opportunities for some journalists, although I do feel this movie is exaggerating it. This movie would have worked better for me, if the journalist (and the viewer on the couch) showed a little bit more concern and sympathy for the people who were swept in the turmoil. I don??t think we are completely apathetic. The problem is that we watch such footage and say with genuine feelings, ??Jeez, isn??t that horrible,?? and then go to have our dinner. (I am quoting someone here but I forgot who I am quoting.)

Your story-telling skill was impressive. I liked the beginning where the woman flips the channel and then the news show comes in. In the early part of the movie I hated the use of music, but later I realized that that was a good choice. But I hoped Hope would say something instead of just standing there. I guess that could have been part of your depiction of news broadcasts, but you could have let her say one or two words just to add some realism. Again, the journalist could have been a little bit more sympathetic, a little bit more human. So could the viewer on the couch. That way, there would have been more immediate connection between these people in your movie and us, your audience.

A unique and touching story, which uses only minimal cinematic effects but despite - or because of - it reaches its goal very effectively. It makes the viewer both relieved (since WE are the ones who are sitting in our living rooms), and ashamed at the same time.

Excellent and enlightening little movie about the atrocities of war and how often the world around these events does so little in terms of helping and understanding.
The cold and empty announcer in the movie is completely oblivious to his own report and pretty much sums up the ignorance of so many like him.
All people here should watch this.

Entertainment.

This is a great film. The level of poverty, infirmity, and war injuries continues to increase around the world everyday. Awareness is the beginning to start the wheels of change. I applaud the filmmaker for this movie. We must try to remember the serious message, long after the images have faded from our memory.

Editing : 3/3 - Good use of editing.
Dialogue : 3/3 - Nice voice overs.
Plot : 3/4 - Good little documentary - but, it was a bit short to really tug at the heart strings.
Scene/Prop use : 3/3 - Scene use worked.
Entertainment :3/5 - Not a bad movie. I just feel that the movie could have spent a bit more time in flashbacks showing the taking away of her baby. It never really got the emotion going, at least not for me.
Music : 2/2 - Good music.

Total : 17/20 - 5 stars - Good job.

I do think about what the issues that you brought up in your movie and it just sickens me how there are people still in the world who don't have shelter or clean water.
