Film Description
A Sci Fi epic of suspense, romance, and intrigue: Athena Project IV- The Origin
This episode is the flashback to the origin of the Athena Project??? the ???One Hour War" the battle with Ftoroy where Matt is seriously wounded, when his efforts turn the tide of battle. If you see only one of the series, this is the one to watch! I think of it as a special two-parter (hence, its length.) (I repeat: this episode, like all my others, stands independently, do not feel obligated to view them all. See my studio page for further information.)

===
I'm enjoying the reviews, everyone. Thanks.

Very good editing , excellent voiceovers and a decent plot. Hard to do sci-fi without seeming to camp on TMO but you pulled it off. (although if the future involves flat-top haircuts you can keep it!)

Excellent sci-fi! Your sound sparkles. Your visuals are exciting. Your ideas are first class. I am a sci-fi fan myself (favorite author: Jack Vance, movies: Original Star Wars, Total Recall, Forbidden Planet, Blade Runner, etc...)so it's really satisfying to see a serious TMO sci-fi movie like yours. I want to know if you are going to proceed with your plan to revamp the other Athena Project episodes?

The intro was done nicely, gave a good overview of the cast. Good conversation scenes and edited well. I also liked the narrative scenes conveyed by the main character. It gave it more depth.
Shots were correlated together correctly and the plot didn??t go off track. Very skilled production which would have taken quiet some time to make of this film. Good story, perspective, and construction of shots which made this film be a quality one.

Again, very well done. The story keeps your attention throughout, the characters are well crafted, and interesting. The VOs are very well done, and add a great deal to the believability of the characters.
The only detraction, for me, was some of the editting was a tad off; some scenes did not go well with the VOs (I am not sure if this was from post prod, or if it is a problem with the exporting in the game).
Excellent film all around, I would highly recommend this movie.

I very much enjoyed the previous episodes, but this one reached a new plateau...

This is one of the best, if not the best, science fiction series running here - it's intelligently written, with a deep backstory (some of which we get in this episode), interesting, likeable, and unique characters, excellent voice-overs, and good use of music, sound, and custom backdrops.

In this one, we find out what happened to Matt, how he came to get his implant and his robot sidekick, and some explanation for some of events of previous episodes. I continue to be impressed by this filmmakers sense of story and pacing - this episode has more action, but not at the expense of advancing the plot and developing the characters we're beginning to know.

I was fortunate enough to catch this on the front page right after it was uploaded - and think I'll be one of the first, but certainly not the last, to give this film the recognition it deserves.

Great work - I really need to bookmark this studio so I don't miss the future episodes....

Wow, this definetly has the makings for a great movie. That was alot of plot to cram into 10 minutes so i'm glad to see you span it out over episodes. I would however work on adding in more action, to keep the attention of the audience, but other than that excellent job and I look forward to future films by you. You obviously have great screen-writing ability.

It is really great to see your skills for story telling and film making increase as each episode advances. The script is very intriguing. And holds the viewers interest all the way through. The character is very interesting and the story is very original. I can??t wait to see where this is going and anxiously await the next episode.
I also want to thank you for the inspiration but I will explain that to you in a PM
Keep up the good work

Excellent use of sound. Writing to the movie is always much better than the incessant droning of TM tracks.

Didn't mind the monologues. However that's where you can't make the 5 stars. Why? There are a number of dialogue scenes (on stage) and with that length, editing is crucial to mix it up so we don't see the same anim of the first 5-10 seconds of each scene. You did well but when I noticed it, had to make the deduction.

Your story was good. The first few minutes the lines were crisp and kept things going. Some drag in the later section but sometimes that's just personal perference.

I enjoyed this film, one of the few at TMO where intelligence, skill and care can be seen in all of the details of the movie.

Yup good film, main point I would raise would be your overuse of naration, but I gues you have already faced this after reading your description (yup, my perogative to disagree, although even I admit that its not always possible to do exactly what you want!) Oh, and no, this film does not dtand on its own, claiming that it does is like claiming htat Empire Strikes Back does!
But it is a very good film, with excellent sound done very well.

Good story and very tight editing and voice over work. I lost some of the volume in the middle, but that may have been the net. There was a lot of standing and talking, partly due to the nature of the flashback, but you might have been able to do that narration as some action occurred. Excellent job. I can't wait to watch the next one.

I say four because the movie could be better. Buy the Stunts and Effect and Make part five. That will be one to see. But dont make it boring like the first two. It needs way more action. The only action I saw in part three is some guy getting shot. So a four is my final rating.

This is really a nicely crafted film. Constructively, I think you could do more to match the actions to the person speaking and you're cutting -- while excellent in action scenes -- is a little lazy around dialogue. It would be churlish to deny you five stars based on that though.

That was really interesting. When I have time I'll check out the other parts. I loved the VOs. Great work on that. Espiacally the robo voice sounded really, really cool. The story was interesting, of course I didn't know all the characters because I havn't seen the other movies yet, so it was nice to make a little introduction on those characters. The editing was good, maybe you should try to find some nice Sci-Fi Sets (Sci-Fi Bedroom e.g.)
Anyway, great movie which kept me interesting.

A very well made Sci-Fi film. The VO's were some of the best I've heard on TMO and the soundtrack was spotless. I did think the narrator explaining the battle was an easy out. Overall very well worth watching!

Even though the production values were obviously higher, I didn't quite enjoy this entry as much as I had enjoyed the others. I would prefer to *see* events than have a narrator tell me what is happening. I appreciate that sometimes it is hard with predetermined scenes to show precisely what you want, but I think there are ways, even with the given tools of working a story around the available materials.

Story: 4/5 Good. As compelling as ever with good development of plot an character. If anything this movie lacked structure (i.e. beginning, middle and end)
Editing: 3/5 A little weak in places. Some scenes allowed to play out a little long. And some scenes could have been better used in post production.
Dialogue: 5/5 Good dialogue and excellent sound work. Really impressed with the processing of voices.
Production: 3/5 I think the narrative device was overused in this episode (perhaps because it was longer). There were lots of events I would rather have seen than been told about, such as the assassination attempt and recouperation.

Definitely well worth seeing with the rest of the series, but a little mixed in terms of quality.

[reposted review, first one disappeared]

Good quality film, with interesting characters. This provides a good overview of the story, as well as leaving plenty of hooks for the upcoming films. The narrative style is good, though the narrator spoke a little too quickly. It may have benefitted from trimming down the number of words so he could slow down. The double-pace intro music didn't do it for me.

Very nice sci-fi movie. You did a great job on the editing and the music. The story is interesting, but I guess I'll have to wait the next one to understand it. Also, unfortunatly, I found it much talking. I like the idea of switching between the storyteller and the movie, but overall I missed the epic, the romance and the suspense in this movie, like it is described.
Oh yeah, also excellent job on the Voices! Sure a good movie! I'll be watching the next one! Keep it up :)

Great voice-over work, and good music/editing. However, though the description says this movie stands alone, I had no idea what was going on most of the time. It was very hard to follow. Try stripping the unnecessary dialog out, perhaps.

Very good, and kept 1000 Yard Stare Studios interested throughout. We'll be going to watch the others to put everything in context and will likely give a more in-depth review later.

For now, we enjoyed it, and would only quibble about certain lines of dialogue sounding a bit forced, almost sounding dictated from a page instead of recited from the gut. Still, only a minor quibble. The story and effort put into voice-masking to round out the cast cancels out the issue.

Please keep going and doing this obviously deeply thought-out story justice, and we'll keep our eye on you.

Film on, fellow createaholic, film on.

This is how a sci-fi movie should be. The main character's narrative helped, as somebody else put it, add more depth to the storyline. Also, the VOs, which were superb by the way, did the same. Now, with that said, some of the VOs were a little quiet here and there. Anyway. Excellent film!

I thought that most of the VOs were spot on throughout most of the movie. A couple of small spots were off, but they may have been due to some last minute editing after the sound was added. That happens sometimes. The story was well thought out. It flowed very well. Great job on this. I hope it has much success.

4.5 stars. Definately the best in the series, and to some degree, I would possibly "ignore" the first 3 movies in the series, and arc off from this one.

I think the main character looks great in the black outfit, and the closing sequence was very very well done. There is a strange sequence at approx 8m 30s where the character appears to be standing on the stage set, with a space background.

I hope it doesnt take a month to get the next installment.

Notable movie with good plot, charismatic characters and really good VO too... but the edit fails, many scenes are enlarged and the result is a non-dinamic sci-fi movie. If you can resolve this fail, this series can be he best sci-fi series in TMO :)

Good customs, editing, characters and story, but too much talking.
As a recap come trailer I suppose its to be expected but I would have prefered if there was less narration and more interaction with other chars to fill us all in. Good VO work too.
