Film Description
This is an experimental movie done for a silent competition. You have been warned.

This is a movie i done for a silent movies competition...;it is why this movie have no sounds. http://allboards.lionhead.com/showthread.php?t=138877&page=1

Thanks to all for critics and honest reviews, honesty is the only way for improving
What are the last thoughts when life flee our body.........the last emotions as our heart beats are fading..........
Here is a small spoiler...........
The foggy mood...the black screens are part of the agony........the life fleeing..;

I am sorry for the ending feeling creepy.........this is not a decaying body but just the sould represented by the angel costume....it is the lighting that gives it the so grey look of decaying.

When you interest an audio enthuist like myself in a silent film without subtitles, you have accomplished something. The sleek, stylish nature of he shots and cuts chosen draws you further into the film. The beginning is a bit confusing, but the rest falls together nicely. I'm thinking that the beginning is the middle, the middle is the beginning and the end, is actually the end. My interpretation though. I sware I wasn't going to score this for the Top 100... due it being a silent film without subtitles, but there is something to be said for effective direction. And as such...

I loved how you were able to make a beautiful short film in black & white, especially since the set selection before having developped colour films in the game is relatively limited. A bit more depth to the story would have earned you that 5th star. Keep up the good work, though!

Sinister movie without the sound. I know it's a while since you posted this movie so you might not be expected a review. I think the film is excellent and expertly crafted. The only thing I would have done slightly differently maybe to have had more quick fades (especially as far as the knife was concerned). I only put this in the review because of what you've put in your About section. This is a very sinister and powerful movie and you have proven that without sound, dialogue or subtitles you can clearly follow the narrative. I wouldn't mind your feedback on my Two Wrongs - The Story behind Tuesday (I don't usually tout my movies, but I was so impressed with yur Innocence Sacrificed movie I would like to hear your thoughts?)

Ok, im gonna give some constructive criticism here, first off, your movies are so deep and poetic, i enjoyed we closed our eyes and innocence sacrificed but it is a GAME! You sohuld get a real camera and film a real movie if you want to spread views and make films like this. Besides that, your films are usually very good and i enjoyed the noir style

Brilliant. The glimmers of the blade and eyes conveyed the sense of foreboding and immediately immersed the viewer into the ever-increasing tension of the piece. One of the fade in/outs was too quick for me to grasp the image, but otherwise this was perfect. Considering the choice of scenes and editing were the only tools available to convey this tale, it was masterfully executed. Bravo.

Originality -- 10/10 -- My first impression was "Mr. Goodbar" meets Cocteau, but a second viewing showed me it was so much more. The dreaminess of your movie gave it a quality far beyond much of what is seen in the VO extravaganzas on TMO.
Plot/Story -- 10/10 -- Well conceived and well-told through the images you presented. The entire thing moved with the fluidity of mercury. Your characters' motives were never in doubt, I could tell from actions the background of each. C'est magnifique!
Dialogue -- 10/10 -- Since I forbade the use of dialogue in this contest, everybody gets a 10.
Editing -- 10/10 -- The use of shuffling your story line, the fade outs simulating a dying heart, the utter perfection of your black & white cinematography, the deja vu feeling of repeated scenes stuttering past like dying gasps of memory -- it all blended together to make a masterpiece.
Wow factor -- 10/10 -- You have shown that a silent movie can transcend the borders of language and film-making. I am utterly astonished at the quality of this film.

50/50 -- 5 stars. Mazeltov! You have recieved a perfect score! No movie I have ever reviewed has managed this level of excellence. Bravo!!

An artistic and evocative experiment. I liked the way the heavy use of fades was very suggestive of 'flashes of memory' forming the last thoughts as life fades. Very stylish and well put together indeed. The only thing I personally found a little extraneous was the closing shots of the 'soul' of the dying woman, which I felt needlessly took the film beyond the 'last heart beats', but thats just my personal taste and in no way a criticism of a very brave film that pushes the creativity of TMO

You have wasted your time bringing out a silent film like this. Frankly I've lost hope in you. Your talent of making movies is amazing but some one else deserves it more. I'm disapointed with this meaningless release of yours. Please don't make a movie like this again. With all due respect.

It's been a while since I watched version one, but from what I recall, you've definitely taken it up a notch. The pacing felt much better this time, and the storyline seemed to be more clear. There still seem to be a scene or two that are either a bit too long, or perhaps a bit too short -- like the one scene of the knife in hand where the fade in and fade out almost seem to overlap each other so we never seen the knife properly -- but still excellent job. As with many others, we hope you keep up the good work.

Tres bon =). Je l'aime beaucoup (Sorry my French is very amatureish xD) It may have driven the silent movie point a bit much, but I guess its not exactly fair to bring it down because of that. Somehow I can imagine Dir En Grey's "Obscure" going to it though. It was a bit predictable, and had to many fades, but it still succesfully captured the sense of style it was going for.

Very beutiful film, i preferred your last one, i loved the atmosphere in this one though, the fog and the greyishness gave it a real eerie feeling. silent films are always interesting because it really tests a director's storytelling ability, you my friend pass with flying colours with a very compelling and interesting film, great use of scene cuts and fade outs as well. nice one mate, the best silent film i've seen.
Check out the conclusion to my oddworld series, i'd appreciate it.

It's amazing how u can make the movie as powerful as it is, especially without a single word! I think the silence benefits it greatly. The ending is just plain brilliance, and the whole general idea is certainly one of the best i hv ever seen Online.

I liked this movie. WolfMan already told you about The_Wild_Dog getting killed, he was my brother. I gonna find the idiots who did it. WolfMan316 wanted me to ask you for your e-mail address and he said that he see's you didn't see the last episode he made, well, ya didn't review it anyway. So, when you review it, give him your e-mail address. He sometimes will need someone to talk to.

This was a great movie. There's somthing I got to tell you. The_Wild_dog is dead. Once he got off the computer, we went for a walk and he was shot. I'm gonna be leaving the site. I'm not going to be going to the forums but, I'll still be making movies and uploading them. I'll also still review movies. Be looking out for my movies. Keep up the good work, too. I may soon finish episode 6 of my series. Keep watching for my movies. I'll be going to The_Wild_Dogs funeral in a couple days. Be watching for my movies, I'll be making more than just a series. Some cool and sad movies will soon be coming up. Later.

I'm not sure what it is. I liked the fact that this movie had no sound. I liked the fact that the lot wasn't a clean cut thing. I just don't see this film as being particularly above average. Some of the shots were very stylish, but after watching again it seemed like the pacing was slow. I think that you flashed too often to the view of the man's eyes. i wanted to like this movie a lot, but it's just not something I would watch over and over again.

Im truely speachless.
The lighting, the atmosphere, the fade ins and outs, the whole thing.
From the Brief flashs of eyes swayed moving around the locations, the whole thing was amazing. Couldnt take my eyes off it.
Had me captivated all the way through.
Incredibly artistic, Incredibly brilliant story.
Fantasticly told. Feel like withdrawing my movie now as that will blow any one away that watchs it.

I think the story was, as usual when it comes to chocolatemouse, very well thought through and portrayed in an excellent manner. The black and white style suited this movie very well, and it didn't really need any sound to keep atmosphere or story going. The only thing I really could complain about is the slight overuse of fades and blackscreen. While it sometimes gave the impression of us being an onlooker of the drama unfolding, at other times it felt a bit too much. I'd say this is a really good movie, with some minor flaws. It's quality as can be expected from MouseORama. Always good to see your movies.

Here in comparison to "We closed our eyes" I can give only 4.1 stars. But the idea, which is that you shortly before you death sees over again your whole life to film is brilliant. And the oppressive mood is strengthened by the Black and White effect. Really good work, continue in such a way. Please.

To tell a story using only images but no words or sound and make it convincing takes great skill. You have that skill and you've created something quite special here in my opinion. An excellent piece of work.

Loved the setting and thought the look of the bar was totally transformed. It looked like a seed waterfront bar in a place like Marseille, or New Orleans maybe, with mist rolling inside from the dockside, beautiful effect. Good use of the close ups and prop features, though some of the fades were so close as to leave barely a glimpse in some cases.
You gave yourself a harder job by having more sets and scenes and more plot to follow but you did a really good job and it certainly does leave a haunting after image in my mind. I tend to agree with SherwinLiu about the end scenes, but I can see the argument to be made on both sides there.
You made me feel like going down the Riverfront to a bar I know, was'nt expecting that! :)

Well mousey, I never saw the first movie, but I liked the look and feel of this. Funny all the silent movies I have seen have someone being murdered, is this part of the criteria? LOL. I love the B&W look; it works really well, especially with the fades for movement of time. It has quite a simple story but it has to be with the time constraints being under 4 mins. All things considered and comparing it to others I have seen, this is a 5 star movie.

Well done I have given 5 stars to only 1 other no-sound movies, I'm getting too complacent, must put my strict head back on :)

Didn't know that their is such a competition?! Well, i have to say that this movie is full of atmosphere. It seems just like it overflow. The grey filter was just awesome. Reminded me on another Movie here on TMO called Gedankengut. But you didn't only bring atmosphere through the grey color in the movie. Also you have used the black screens perfect. Seemed to me that have never been to long or to short, always just perfect. The editing was brilliant. Maybe you could have shown the face of the woman when she and the man went out the door, but thats they only critic, but to be honest, it isn't a really critic. Anyway, fantastic job like always. For me is this movie better than your earlier movies "The Flower Will Die (my version)" and "we closed our eyes". Oh, i think i better download this movie now. Last word to other people: Watch this movie!!

(This review was written by Kate Lee.) How hard it must be to create a film that tells a sophisticated story without words or music. I think this film is succeeding fairly well. I loved the beauty of the opening scenes. I have a feeling that you are gathering feedback from people to improve this piece for the competition. So I will just throw my two cents here. It took more than a second for me to establish that the bar sequence was definitely a flashback. In other words, although that was the only logical explanation, a little bit more of visual cueing might have helped make the transition more effortless for the viewer. (A easy trick I use arguably too often is showing a close up of a person??either the person who recalls the event or the person whose past is recalled. Somehow I have a feeling that that is the Hollywood language all us are inevitably accustomed to more or less. I am not sure if other people feel the same.) Frequent fade-ins were a bit tiring for me (although it was beautiful) as many people already pointed out. In the part where the women meets the man, be paid, and leaves the bar with him, I think there was some repetition. If that was intentional, I did not understand why? Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I felt some kind of dissonance between the beginning and the closing scenes. At the beginning scene, her death was gentle and heartbreaking. At the closing scene, it was more morbid and grotesque. I think I would have felt more comfortable if you showed a little bit of the shots from the beginning scene at the closing scene (right before showing her decaying body). That might have helped establish some sort of temporal integrity. Again these are just my two cents. Overall it was an exquisite film with a very gentle heart. Best of luck in the competition.

The concept was much clearer this time. The beginning was definetely stronger. I love the costumes. The fades got distracting after a while - I completely understand why you were using them (like heartbeats, heavy blinking eyelids, last moments), and I can't think of a better way to show this idea, but still, there were a few times it distracted from the story. The editing at the end was OUTSTANDING. What a terrific way to depict the exact moment of death. Don't be surprised if you see people copying that technique!

Very atmospheric. I could feel the mood of desperation of the girl, I got a sense of her life from before. She was insecure, in need of love, lonely, desperate and frustrated.

The evil in the man, he took what he wanted. He played nice until they were alone. Then the ultimate betrayal. Then her life slipping away, slowly, sadly. No one would miss her when she was gone.

This film is a metaphor for when women are used by men for their own purposes. Where a man treats a woman nicely until he gets what he wants. Then he betrays her and leaves her hurting, with very deep pain. So much so that he may as well of killed her. She is left nursing who emotional wounds. To be alone, never to trust a man again to get so close.

This is a real classic art silent movie. Deep and passionate, and showing the more unpleasent part of the nature of some men.

errr.....I'm still confused, why was she given the money anyway, so the guy could date her? Why did he take it off her if so? why was she coughing at the start, why did she get up at the start? Why get up and die? All these questions no answers, I'm a big fan of the choccymouse but this one just didn't give me anything. Maybe i'm stupid, Maybe I'm too intelligent, maybe I'm too expecting, this is what your movie makes me feel, I don't like that feeling. Not being in control of myself. i wonder about this movie whether it was bad or not? I'm gonna go on the movie- making skill here.
Very well edited-Perhaps slightly too long black screens.
Very good screenplay- Although I was confused the sequence played out very well

Well if I was lazy (I actually am)I would just copy my first review and add erin's...
Yes I got it this time, but I read the directors notes.
I haven't yet seen the other contestants, but dulci's sounds promising (sorry for making PR for another movie).
I think it's still hard to get but given the restrictions I can't really say how it could be further improved.
So in adition to what erin said:
What really helps this time is that you show the death scene in advance.
So the viewer can actually grasp that all the following is what went before, I think that concept that was in the first version barely to get.

Yeah, I got it this time. I'm not sure we need to see the knife and money twice. And I'd maybe not fade out between scenes and for that long. But the short fades (of course :-)) I like. I think it's a nice improvement.
