I have been looking for this movie for some time, as it was one of the first movies that I saw that really stood out as excellent storytelling. I saw this before I even got the game and it was one of the story's that made me want to get the game and see what I could do(The other was Deathtrap). That Dulci is the person that made it surprises me not a bit as I've seen her excellent work since. This movie is the perfect blend of music, dialog and a truly shocking twist that left me slack jawed. Brilliantly told story by a great storyteller.

Melissa Auf der Maur once said "Music is my love," and I think, if nothing else, that quote captures what this movie is all about. Love comes in many forms and is shown in many ways. But it is not the "what" that is fascinating about love, it is the how. How do two people share a connection? What is the bond that love originates from? In this movie, that bond is music. Through the lounge singer's voice, a soul was touched. And that is precisely where it all begins.

To put it bluntly, this film surprised me on many levels. The music itself was more than accommodating and I found myself completely forgetting my surroundings, absorbed in this movie called The Lounge Singer. The singer's every word, every lyric, every movement captivated me, and I knew that without even trying, I was under her spell. I watched on as a character from the movie seemed to undergo a very similar effect.

As the story progressed, I found myself experience a range of emotions; and that, if nothing else, is the true success of this film. This film manages to captivate its audience beyond that of a mundane story. It is a story that is alive. It is a story that is here and now. You can't help but to get drawn into it. From beginning to end I experienced emotions ranging from a warm smile to an open-mouth shock. But this film is more than its surprise ending. It is a testament to the power of love, and that of unintentional seduction.

The filming of this movie itself was adequate enough to tell the story. There are no fancy camera shots or breath-taking effects, but the movie is better because of it. In fact, I prefer the simplistic style in which it was filmed, as there were no distractions to pull me out of the story. The cuts were on-target and concise, and flowed from one scene to another just as freely as the soundtrack flowed from one verse to another.

The voice acting was exceptional and I felt myself feeling as though the woman talking to me in this story was a very real and alive person. I almost get the feeling that somewhere in this world, there is a lounge singer just like this, as the quality of the acting was so believable, I felt as though she were not only speaking lines, but she was speaking to me. Accentuated pauses were inserted in just the right places and they did a great job at making you lean a few inches closer to your monitor, waiting for what she was about to say next. The emotion was subtle, but certainly enough, and was in no way too dramatic. Overall, it was balanced quite well against the mood of the film and the urgency of the singer's inner-emotions.

And what can I say about the music? Music can be the driving force of a movie, and I think this is definitely the case with The Lounge Singer. However, I marvel at the skill in which the music was emphasized enough to allow me to notice it, but subtle enough for me to not let it distract from the film. I think if anything, this is perhaps the best aspect of the movie. Balancing a score against the film's dialogue and action is no easy task. You don't want the music to distract, but you don't want it to go completely unnoticed. The Lounge Singer managed to accomplish a nice balance, and I think it certainly shows. As a movie where the storyline itself is based around music, the actual score used to define that mood was beyond perfect.

It is my personal opinion that you know it's a good movie when you forget it's a movie. I don't want to be reminded that I'm hunched over a computer late at night watching some movie that a person uploaded. I want to forget where I am and who I am. I want to get involved with these characters. I want to become emotionally involved in the story. All in all, I want to be affected.

The Lounge Singer has done that, and I don't think it could have done it any better. This film is, without a doubt, one of the best I've yet to encounter and I am personally saddened by the fact that no review I or anyone else leaves can do this film justice.

Wow! Perfection from top to bottom and I don't mean the star of the film when I say that. She is lovely, great casting there and your beautiful voice adds so much to her characterization. You breathe delicious life into her. The film is just wonderful. You have talent to burn. Not only are you a great filmmaker but you are also a great writer. It all beings there doesn't it?

Directed with a style and confidence rarely seen in The Movies. There's not a lot I can say about this, apart from that it's very good indeed and there's really nothing I can think of that would improve it.
I like the way the woman in the intro seems to have the credits tattooed on her back, BTW;)

Very well executed story, and as always, perfect editing. I'd like to comment on your extremely clear voice as well, as it is a joy to listen to. That music is so good, it sent shivers down my spine, and I cannot give any less than a 5 for this extraordinarily good movie.

This is one of the rare movies that actually make you forget that it was made using the very limited palette the game offers. Whether this was caused by the enchanting song, the brilliant story or the smooth and flawless editing is difficult to decide. But one thing is for certain: This movie is a perfect gem.

You know, I make it no hidden fact that I'm not a big romance fan. This was a little twisted, though. A romance, but one that I actually liked and enjoyed. I don't even really like the style of the song through the movie, but it fit just where it was supposed to in the mood of the movie. Great job. I loved this.

A really touching story with good VO and a superb soundtrack. The final revelation was totally unexpected and frightening. Perhaps you should make a crime story next time, you have the skill for it - everything happens before the viewer, and still, it only fits together in the last moment. :)

Brilliant! Proof once again that content is not necessarily equal to length. In less than four minutes, we get a surprising (nearly shocking) story with a completely unexpected ending. The way the scenes are cut together works incredibly well, too.
The music was beautiful, but there was more to it than just Rose Robbins' dulcet tones. The way that particular song and its beautiful vocal plays against the onscreen imagery is the perfect recipe, leaving the viewer stunned by the contrast.
A wonderful short film and a must-see!

I remember seeing this movie and just thinking wow! I think i was probably crying a little bit too! You do a terrific job making movies and toughing people at the same time. That's why your movies and studios are always number 1 ! Your best genre is probably or by far romance!

That was soooooo amazing and touching. That sneaky bartender must be in love. How sweeter than that. You were fantastic. I also loved the music. That was romantic in every way.

You make the best films ever. Keep the work going. I've seen your most recent movie Cold. I was the second to rate it. It was the one of the best movies ever. You are getting better and better. Come on... keep the movie going.

The story is powerful as it builds and builds and then hits you. The emotions that were evident in the characters as the story is unveiled is quite an interesting story-telling device. The creative use of compositing the voice-over with the singing lends a nice touch to the story as the music & singing provide both pleasant background audio as well as a component of the story that is vital. Dulci uses the combination of the voice (spoken and sung) to lull the viewer into a sense of peace before the shocker and then calmly returns us to that sense of peace, in the same way that the character commits the act and then life returns to normal. It's a very eerie way to tell a story.

Can't believe I just got around to watching this... An excellent movie, and proof that movies can be just as good with S&E as without! Loved the song, suited the movie perfectly, you did a great job with the VOs and the script was well written. An interesting story, with a twist I didn't see coming!

You have a real gift for the short film - for being able to communicate so many ideas in such a short span of time. This was very haunting and thoughtful, the idea of two people coming together through the shared appreciation for the talents of one of them. I loved the dark little twist in the tail that, in retrospect, works perfectly.

And you have a fine ear for the music for your films as well; that backing song indeed was beautiful, and fitted the movie perfectly.

I'm confused. Am i meant to feel sad or happy because this stirred both in me. Very few movies have ever done that, either on TMO or TRW. For a film to stir two emotions at opposite ends of the scale is a mastery in story telling. The whole premise had me thinking of a slasher ending, and i was pleased with how it ended. The atmophere felt like a lounge singer den and this story wasn't told to me, it brought me into the story. Well done, great work, but i would expect nothing less from this studio.

What can I say really?

This is a brilliant film in a lot of ways. I even find it far superior to "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". It's a text book case of how you don't need lines upon lines of dialogues, and shot after shot of special effects to make a brilliant and substantial film.

First of all there is the script, which I don't think a lot other reviewers have given the credit it deserves. The story is deceivingly simple but it has so many layers, especially because so many things are left unsaid and unexplained. Why does the admirer sit there night after night? Why doesn't he show up at the meeting? Leaving these things unexplained is a master-stroke. It makes the film resonate deeper with the viewer. It draws in the audience using their own emotional baggage to identify with the feelings evident in the film (ie how many times have you chickened out of approaching a beautiful girl at a bar? Or been stood up?). While a lot of film-making people I know abhor the use of monologues I am not one of them. It was a brave design choice however, and I think you should be commended for it. You pulled it off well and the last line at the end really ended things on the perfect note.

The editing was smooth and didn't call attention to itself. In a lot of ways, it played like a 40/50's film. Both in the mood and atmosphere, and the calm style of editing. There was a great choice of scenes, which managed to keep make them look varied, especially with the Lounge singer.

I think other reviewers have already said what needed to be said about the music. It was an outstanding choice, and fit perfectly.

There was really only one thing that bugged me a little (and only through repeated viewings). It's only a minor thing, and it never really jumped out or brought me out of the film. To me, there were just places where the voice-over sounded too much like someone sitting in front of a microphone and reading aloud, than someone actually telling the story. It was nothing big, but to me it was there. The music helped call attention away from it though.

All in all this is easily one of my favorite films on TMO. I'm just sorry I can't give award it more than 5 stars.

I knew I was going to enjoy this film the minute I heard the music. As many have said, now including myself, Dulci your VO??s are outstanding. This story is so simple and yet so complex and is told beautifully thru great editing and scene selection. My heart was split between the lounge singer and for the customer who was so engrossed by her. The ending held such an unexpected twisted that it blindsided me. Blindsided me to the point that I was ?. Grabbing for the tissue. Bravo! Bravo!

I would also like to give a "Bravo" to Rose Robbins for her beautiful song "Whisper". A truly touching song!

Grand in its subtlety. It's certainly a testament to the power of this short piece that most of the reviews read longer than the film itself. A concise but penatrating painting of the viciousness of desire masked by its romantic exterior. Beautifully executed (no pun intended) ;-).

BRAVO! I loved this film. In my opinion, your are one of the best film makers on the site, but this just porved it. You are excellent Dulci, and this film is excellent. I congratulate you on another job well done. True film making magic. In my opinion, this film was flawless, it started out classy, the song was just perfect and set a sexy atmosphere. Then the movie came along and it seemed like the customer was obsessed, but it had a great plot tiwst. this is perfect, the greatest film in your studio and now I am truly a fan. HOTPICK OVER HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!Great film, I admire your work greatly. All of your films leave you wondering and wanting more. In all of your films, you do this thing were you fall in love with the characters that you create. It was a sultry lounge singer with a strange lover, a beautiful and romantic, yet disturbing film. BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think that you are a master movie creator and I wish I could only be half as good as you can. Did I mention the editing was flawless and the begining credits were amazing as well...

NOW FOR THE SCORES....

A haunting romantic tale which hides it's sinister finale extremely well. It really highlights just exactly who is watching us? An inspired melody brings the narrative to life. I'm not sure if it was intentional but it sort of had a very 1940/50's vibe (which is probably the time the Femme Fatale was at it's peak)? I can almost picture Rita Hayworth in the lead role.
C'est Magnifique!

You are right about the mumbling by the way, I do usually remove it. That'll teach me for editing it in the early hours of the morning.

That was one of the most horrific films ever! [Really should have been classed as horror]

A guy gets a crush on a beautiful singer with a terrific voice (Rose Robbins sings great - nice song, but how awful that the song was faded out just before the last note. You should've inserted a black screen at the end or something) - and just as he's about to finally get to meet the woman of his dreams ...

A clever story where you get to see just why the barman would keep on a singer that doesn't pull in any customers - and there she is, totally unaware that she's poison to any man who dares fancy her in that bar.

Excellent story with bags of atmosphere created by the great music.

What a great story! I love the twist at the end. And thank you for introducing me to Rose Robbins, that song was absolutely beautiful. Incredible dulci. I'm new to the movies, but that was one of the best films i've viewed so far and really opened my eyes to the potential of this wonderful program!

5 stars across the board!

Very strong movie, which I'll admit I didn't expect it to be. The choice of music was absolutely wonderful, and your voice acting was extremely good. As you may have noticed, I think the sound was the strongest element of this film, and I congratulate you on it. 4/5

Plot 10/10: You had a real good story. All your plot points were well placed and its was easy to follow.

Scenes/Sets & Dressing 9/10: Excellent use of scenes and sets. I thought a little set dressing would very rounded it out nicely, something to distinguish your scene from the others out there. But overall, great

Character & Development 10/10: You characters were consistent, and well developed. The lack of bartender development actually increased his impact later in the movie. Brilliant!

Editing 9/10: Nice work here, I thought fades where slightly over used, but after the second time through, it was almost like the "Viewer" was blinking slowly. So I only took one off.

Soundtrack & Sound effects 10/10: VO's well done make the movie and yours were well done. AWESOME WORK! The music was very nice.

Total 48/50

I feel so bad not checking out this movie sooner as I know its been around for like over a month and I keep on meaning to see it...so glad that I have watched it now as it is truly a gem. A very nice short movie and top marks on the women singer as it lifted this movie from the start till the end. The only VO throughout the movie was also exceptionally good and the plot was also very thrilling to watch as I was wondering what was going to happen. Overall, an excellent example of a "Dulcilicious" movie!

Damn you, Dulci, for not letting 1000 Yard Stare out of your wily grasp long enough for us to go give other reviews, surf the forums, watch a television program, or get a life!

We could watch your films for hours.

Wonderful work with the voiceover playing through the "bad thing", and the original music underscoring the entire piece was ideally suited to the film.

New viewers, if you're still reading this instead of watching this film, we're wasting your time. Dulci's work speaks for itself.

Ack, it's not exactly my genre either, but that doesn't stop me from appreciating the good work. Sheesh, some people. (That's all from reading some of the reviews.) I particularly like the set up with your "about" info. I can usually figure out a plot, and I appreciate being surprised -- and I was surprised. Like others, I enjoyed the juxtaposition of your voice over with the actual story being told by the images on screen. The only flaw I recognized was the shaker at the bar did something weird at some point -- I don't know if that was your editing, or game glitch -- I'm assuming game glitch. Someone new to add to my favorites links...

Originality -- 10/10 -- I knew all along where this was going and then -- whoa! -- I was wrong!
Plot/Story -- 10/10 -- I was riveted. Riveted! (and that is a word I do not use lightly.) Your twist caught me completely off-guard, and the subtle nuance you were able to achieve using the facets of the game was nothing short of amazing!
Dialogue -- 8/10 -- Arrrrggghhh! I can't give a perfect score for narration only, in spite of how well it was written! I just feel it doesn't allow us to identify enough with the other characters when we only get one person's point of view. There's no real drama in that. Your VO acting was absolutely superb, though. That blend of world-weariness and yet innocence gave me shivers.
Editing -- 10/10 -- If you had flaws I sure didn't see them. The movie flowed along while I scarcely breathed. And that song was the most hauntingly beautiful song I have heard on this site. Perfect!
Wow factor -- 10/10 -- This is only the second romance movie I have seen on this site that utterly blew me away. (Hey! I'm a guy and romance usually doesn't interest me.)

48/50 -- 5 stars. Spectacular!

Excellent movie, with a lot of attention to detail. I especially like your "casting" of the lead actress, who's very attractive, but distinctive - she doesn't look like every other *The Movies* actress. Nice use of available scenes, too, including a bunch I hadn't seen before.

The voiceover is excellent, but one thing I would've considered is doing the movie with subtitles instead, just to give the wonderful song full rein over soundtrack.

I'll tell you this right now: It's a great movie! In fact, it's a really touching movie.

Lots of things work in this movie. First, I love the music. I thought it fit right well with the situation between Lora Leigh, the Customer, and Hank. I took the liberty of researching on the track and noticed that the song is from an independent label so I assumed you got permission, which is always a good thing.

I also loved the voice-over and the dialogue. At least all the thoughts remained in her head while leaving the camera to tell the truth behind Hank and the Customer. It was even funnier with the grin on Hank's face. Nice!

I personally thought I couldn't find anything wrong with this movie. I guess one subjective thing I could say is: I'm not a big fan of the kind of eye-shadow that Lora Leigh uses, but heck! As long she's got a nice voice, it's always a good thing in my book.

I think this movie deserves five stars but only because the voice-acting was great and the story was a rather interesting one. Nice work!

Really nicely told story with an expert twist. Good use of transitions and cuts to keep the story moving without dragging and perfect VO.
Couple of odd scene choices (she gets ready for her date in the bars public toilet!?) but mostly down to TMO,s limitations I suspect. Also...the close ups of her back and bottom made it seem like the guys eyes could look around corners since she was facing him.

An artistic masterpiece in ever way. You should be so proud of this touching film.

Overall Impact 20/20 - Billiant. It sent chills up my spine with the music and choice of shots. Everything just worked so well. It was mesmerising.

Story 19/20 - Very emotional story which was well written. The whole plot struture came together beautifully and they're were no long unimaginative scenes.

Originality 10/10 - Such an original piece. This has never been done before. It was a great take on the romace genre. A stokr of genius to make it a non physical or interactive romance. He loved her from afar.

Editing 10/10 - Flawless, smooth editing. Perfect for the Romance genre.

V/o and Subs 9/10 - Great use of v/o and very well done.

Dialogue 9/10 - Fantastic. Quite touching dialogue.

Music and Sound 10/10- This is the almost the best use of music ever. It set the mood of the film so beautifully. One word, Perfect.

Costumes 5/5 - Lovely

Genre Suitability 5/5 - A Great Romance.

Total - 97/100 = 5 Stars

An almost flawless story which is so beautifully told.

That was a beautiful movie, and a beautiful song. The editing was great, and the twist tricked me, cause I was expecting a different horrible outcome! I debated a long time between 4 or 5 stars for this. While I feel you could have spent a little more time on the plot twist, and I usually dont give 5 stars, for movies this short, I commend your artistry and therefore give you 5 stars!

Very well put together movie short. Good choice of music set the theme really well and added atmosphere to it. Nice twist in the plot, not many will see that coming, I just felt it was a bit SMASH & GRAB. Maybe some like that, maybe some like short movies, for me I have seen better shorts. I'm not saying it's bad but it gave me a feeling of great advert for something, as opposed to a great movie. Hope you get my meaning, well done for what you did do :)

MoMc Review - SCORE 4.4

A well-told story, made so much stronger by its ending. Unfortunately my expectations may have been unreasonably high given its perfect score. I cannot help but feel that some shots were inappropriate, and made me feel that the customer was just - you know - looking for a good time. This made me empathize less with him. Or maybe the lounge singer was just too curvaceous? In any case, I did not enjoy the first 2/3 of the movie as much as others did.

These are minor flaws which did distract me, in an otherwise very effective short movie. Its main strength is its editing at the end, providing a powerful punch - especially when the tone of naivete in the voiceover was contrasted with the major occurence.

Very well executed story, and as always, perfect editing. I'd like to comment on your extremely clear voice as well, as it is a joy to listen to. That music is so good, it sent shivers down my spine, and I cannot give any less than a 5 for this extraordinarily good movie.

Loved it :) I like romance movies, especially with that little twist. The music set a nice mood. It was short, but still so good :)

The song "Whisper" was an excellent background music choice. The VO was very good too. The story was also good. I liked this movie a lot. I would recommend the Lounge Singer to anyone.

This is one of the rare movies that actually make you forget that it was made using the very limited palette the game offers. Whether this was caused by the enchanting song, the brilliant story or the smooth and flawless editing is difficult to decide. But one thing is for certain: This movie is a perfect gem.

Definitely surprised me. The first little bit it slower but I watched through it and was rewarded with what turned into a very fine movie. Well Done.

You know, I make it no hidden fact that I'm not a big romance fan. This was a little twisted, though. A romance, but one that I actually liked and enjoyed. I don't even really like the style of the song through the movie, but it fit just where it was supposed to in the mood of the movie. Great job. I loved this.

This one is good. Not perfect. Not mind blowingly astounding. But very well done. The song is haunting and adds the proper mood to the film. The story is told very efficiently, making use of nearly every second of film presented.

89.5/100

A really touching story with good VO and a superb soundtrack. The final revelation was totally unexpected and frightening. Perhaps you should make a crime story next time, you have the skill for it - everything happens before the viewer, and still, it only fits together in the last moment. :)

A sweet romantic short story and a beautiful song.

That was an excellent scenario! It's worth 5 stars on it's own to me... and yeah... everything else is perfectly put together, good choice of music! :)
Just keep it coming!
