Film Description
*** LAST DAY SHOWING !!! ***

Check my Special Effects Workshop at TMR
(http://korntheuer2.spezi-hosting.de/themovies/)

This is a Tech Demo, a first impression of the special effects you will see in "Nautilus", my upcoming series. Please don't give more than four stars, it has no plot and it's not a real movie.

*********************************************
* . . This demo has been produced in The Movies, . . *
* using backdrops in the stage with static camera 1 . *
*********************************************

If you liked the 3D-animations, watch erinnicole93's "Aegis Two Trailer" (Movie number 43184) - you will love it !

To people who find it unfair that I used skills and programs that not everybody has: A lot of movies feature self-composed music, although many players (like me) have neither the skills nor the software to do so. But nobody complains about self-made music - why do people complain then when I use Maya and my 3D skills?

Note that the argument "You need money and lots of time to make 3D" does not count - there are free 3D programs like Blender, and I learned to make 3D on some weekends. Sure, I have graphists friends who gave me some advices, but I never participated in a 3D modelizing course or something like this. Try it, it's not more difficult than making music.

Some people pretend that using outside programs is not allowed. If this is the case, you don't have the right to use Photoshop to create your own backdrops, or to use Audacy to edit sounds, or to use whatever other audio or graphics program other than TM. This is, in fact, nonsense. What's not allowed is to modify the movie _after_ the export, which was not the case for my Demo.

Although this Demo focusses on special effects, Nautilus will be 99% classical "The Movies" movie and 1% special effects. Most important thing in a movie is the story, special effects are just "the cherry on the cake". If you have doubt in my capacity of writing a story many people find interesting, have a look at the long list of positive comments to "Underling".

ABOUT THE DEMO :

Note that I do not pretend having invented the frame-per-frame method. As capemedia and others precised, others have done this before. The only innovation is the use of 3D software.

I modelized a Nautilus in a 3D program, rendered two little films (32 frames each), put them on backdrops, shot a static-1-scene in the stage from each frame and cut them together.(Two time units each - I tried one unit each, but the first scene flickered and the second scene did even not appear in the movie.)

Check my special effects workshop at The Movies Resource for details.

ABOUT NAUTILUS :

Nautilus will be a series based on Jules Verne's famous book "20000 Leagues under the Sea". I planned to have a solid plot, VO, some self-modelized sets, special effects like in this demo, and less grammatical errors... err... failures than in Underling [Thanx, Streberking, for the correction]. :o)

Release date is not yet fixed, this is a "big" project which will take certainly more than a month.

If you have any questions (or comments), feel free to post them on the thread http://allboards.lionhead.com/showthread.php?t=131725 or to contact me with pm.

I'm only rating it 1 star just to do yourself a favour and bring this movie down on the charts. You did mention that it doesn't have a plot and not a real movie but for the benefit of others that do make movies with plots, character development, and the like, I'll rate it like that.

However, let me say this: I thought I enjoyed this tech demo quite a bit. It's always nice to know that some people are willing to go the extra mile (or kilometre, depending what part of the world you're in) to beat the limits of this game.

To everyone:

It's definitely not cheating. It's actually utilizing everything you got while staying within the confines of the game. It's basically pushing the game to its limits. I mean, you don't need to use something that costs an arm and a leg, like Maya, Photoshop, and well equipped PowerMac, to achieve something like this. Blender is free. GIMP is free. And you already can use your typical Windows-based computer to create content with those free apps. Just put use to your weekend and learn how to use some of these apps and some day, you might just be able to pull off something like this in your own movies.

To the creator:

If I were rating it in terms of a "tech demo" instead of a "movie", I would have probably gave it five stars. It's really awesome and sometimes I wished I could do something like this in the traditional media. What really bugs me is that some people kind of misunderstands the "no outside editing" rule. I think you clarified that in the movie description. I personally like games which you can mod because it opens up a lot of ideas that weren't possible out-of-the-box. Good props to you and you tech video. :)

I'm looking forward to a film that utilizes this kind of technology. Great work!

This was amazing, and to all of you who say this shouldnt b posted because u cant do it, obviously dont take the time to try. Your saying that its not fair that only he and a few others can do this, well, zogg was kind enough to provide an in depth, yet easy to follow tutorial on how to do this, any1 can do this, but u guys dont take the time. Before you accuse someone of holding information n stuff, get ur facts straight.

this is beonde what any standard gamer can do i thought that the who point off the movies online comunity was so that people could share movie's not battle it out to see who can make the most mods to the game in order to make somthing that no one else can compete with !

Ignore the star rating - it's neither here nor there, as you said. What's important, I guess, are the comments.

I thought this was excellent. The beauty of a program like this is finding its limits, pushing those limits, innovating whilst still focusing - as you say - on the plot that makes a movie a movie. I can't wait for your full release - you take your time, because things like this are what The Movies Online has been working towards. If this has a strong plot, and good editing, it'll be in the top spot for a long, long time.

Fantastic stuff. This was the result of dedication and good thinking - not luck, not money and certainly not cheating. Well done.

From one computer animator to another, I applaud your use of our art form. It was well animated, and well implemented. I'm looking forward to the final result. Obviously not a movie in it's own right (the title tells us specifically that this is not a movie) it still deserves 5 stars for the innovation and imagination used.

To everyone who whines about how good this tech demo is doing: Put your money where your mouth is and make an equally good film. If you want to put this guy in his place, do it with a film, not through a bad review. To purposfully give this tech demo a low rating is to only hurt your own repuation. Just because he has used tools and skills that most others do not have doesn't mean that he's being unfair. Cool effects don't make the movie. A good story and presentation does. We have yet to see this film in it's final production, so automatically assuming it is going to be the best film ever is to be rediculous. People use their imaginations, and they innovate. Once this happens, we all benifit from the progression that is made. Don't give this guy bad rap because he was the first to do something. You should just enjoy watching the fruits of his creativity, and let it be an inspiration to make something just as good.

Nice, but wtf. We all already know how to do special effects like that, but really all you're doing is making an animation of pics outside of the game, so in a sense, you're not really using the game at all.

I agree great tech demo! I look forward to the finished product. I've decided to look into this new frontier myself and I hope to have as good a luck as you seem to be having. So on to the drawing board! Wonder if I can find a way to create animation?I mean like more cartooney animal characters madagascarish! Any ideas would be fantastic!

Just rating it 1 star becaues its just a tech demo and shouldn't be on the charts. However it is a good peak at the real movie, I hope it features these great special effects better than we've seen.

Good 3D modeling but try making the frame rate of each backdrop a little faster
(Trim each scene shorter so each one last for just a split second)
It may take a little more work rendering more 3D backdrops so it doesn't speeed through but it would be worth it in the finished product!

Frechheit. Was soll das?

Very good! I'm not sure if it was The Movies not letting you crop the scene anymore, but for some reason it really seemed to have a low frame rate.

The only other thing I could think of is work on texturing the surfacing model.

The only reason why I gave it a 1 is because I don't think a tech demo should be number one due to the fact that it had cool visual effects. Like you stated before: a good story makes a good movie. This has no story.

Im giving you a low rating to knock down the star rating and to take it down the charts. I really like your work and all, but it is even as you said, it is just a tech demo, and it is kinda silly for people to be 5 staring it. When you release the actual movie, if you put as much effort into the scenes, editing, and dialogue as you do the special effects, I have no doubt its going to get a 5 star :)

That was pointless, and not impressive at all. If I wanted to see good art and graphics I would watch real movies or T.V, not TMO. I want to see creative form of the movies, "Tech Demo" didn't even have a scene from the game. The graphics were good for the game but crappy for trying to impress, and the frame rate sucked. I hate the fact this made it onto the top listings. For shame Lionhead, for shame. Sigh.

Posted on January 30, 2006

I only give this 1 star, on the premise that I think it lessens the community when this demo have the first place on the charts.
The people who put so much effort in doing movies, which is based on story, great stories, are put in the shadows by something like this, which completly lack anything remotly resembeling a story.

This is symptomatic of Hollywood no less. When movies that touches people, movies that means something, movies with acctually content are utterly bypassed because some studio can please a vast audiance with explosions bigger then anything else, simply because they got money.

Far to many people are easy to please with 5 minutes effects in a movie, they 1 week later completly forgotten everything about, apart from that "there were some great effects".
Hence, there are few hollywood movies with content.

The fact that this (extremly well done) absolutly nothingness contentsvise is number one at charts, shows, that we already are moving in the hollywood footsteps, to movies with great effects, but when someone asks us what it was all about, we will find ourselves quriosly quite.

I sincerly whish you good luck on your project, which at least have some story. Not your story ofcourse, but at least A story.

Posted on January 30, 2006
- memnoch

1. It's a trailer
2. Using a backdrop to create movies is nonsense. It's either movies we create or slideshows. Anyone can take the best CGI program out there, create a movie like "Ice Age" then with a lot of time at your disposal backdrop every 24 image per second of the movie to that backdrop. It's not skill!
The challenge is to make a movie with the props and options you have and not to hack "the movies" to make it export your pre rendered images.
Sorry mate but it's a no no for me.

Something is messed up BIGTIME with The Movies, review ratings system!

I don't understand how this can be on the top of the list as the #1 movie when the filmmaker him/herself says ....."This is a Tech Demo, a first impression of the special effects you will see in "Nautilus", my upcoming series. Please don't give more than four stars, it has no plot and it's not a real movie."

As requested, by the filmmaker, I voted 2 stars. The filmmaker is in no way at fault here. He/she attempted to clarify this movie demo, by making the declaration above.

Posted on January 29, 2006
- Chickydo

I am not giving 5 stars, because you have told me not to in your 'Movie description', so here are 4 stars instead. Those SFX were brilliant, people here are posting no real movie, or no real plot, that is because it is named
'Nautilus TechDemo' and since it blatently says things like 'COMING 2006' it is obviously a promotional trailer for the actual film...I'm surprised at how many people judged otherwise...Freat trailer, would have been 5 stars if you had let me give them to you!...

I dont understand how this is beyond what any gamer can do, he simply made an animated flipbook with his backgrounds there is information on the forums about how to add backgrounds to the game, and they even made it a hot pick. He simply took the time to throw something he thought of together and fused it into something workable. I for one will be looking forward to the finished product, and this has given me a few ideas for a future project of mine own as well. The reason i only give it three stars is because it is stated that its a demo. Nothing more nothing less. Good job on your work.

It's a shame really to see why people go this far... the Movies Online is about sharing your own movies made from the game, and it has been said in the Terms and Conditions that movies edited outside the Movies Game shall not be allowed for upload. The Charts really should be reserved for people who make proper movies, from the game, or our credits will never go up.

Nice special effects however it wasn't a movie and I'm not the kind of person who would rate a trailer (or tech demo) high just on state-of-the-art FX. I probably will check out the upcoming movie but it seemed your purpose was what TMO community think of the FX and I think its pretty groovy!

I think the game should have an option to import from Maya :D Or rudimentary 3D modeling options.. what I think is unfair is that this person had to do all that work and then muck around with backdrops :S (I don't understand how to use 3D modeling BTW but I'd love the option)

What The Movies does for some of us is it gives us the ability to make movies easily, trying to accomplish the acting models with maya would take months to do what The movies does in minutes... Why then should we not attempt to mod and expand this tool.

Don't comdemn greatness, applaud and aspire to it.

Looks good, but incredibly short, realise it's a demo, so that's fine. Stars for the effort so far put in, nothing else, The demo, as a tech demo isn't even that great, but just for putting that much work into this game, so as to create something a bit special.

Also, I'd like to pass on some advise I read once, that technical limitation is not an hinderence to creativity, but actually a very needed obstacle to help thinking outside of the box, so to speak. Read that somewhere (paraphased), I agree tbh.

Wow, I've never seen such a controversial movie fit under 1MB! Anyway, it's a very promising start. Only thing I'm worried about is the frame rate. The visuals are stunning but the choppiness of the footage takes away from it.

As for outside programs and tech-heavy films, I think that's the way to go. I just threw down over 600US to add lots of goodies to my Sims 2 movies with Combustion 4 and Adobe After Effects. Tech-heavy movies won't win any official Lionhead contests but I don't think that the directors are going to worry about that much. I like a little Eye Candy from time to time, and 3D programs is a good way to go if you know how to use it, and Zogg does.

3 stars for no plot, no movie really. I like the 3d effects and I have tried 3d many times myself, I find it easier than making music. This isnt what the movies is for! Work with the materials you are supplied with, dont go making your own animations. You shouldnt put this on the movies online, as there is hardly anything to do with it. This belongs somewhere else. When the film comes out, mabye i will change my mind,, unless you have used these special effects to excess, whereas i wont be so leniant in my rating. Although it probably wont make any difference, you obviously have many fans alrady.

Special effects for a great movie? i dont think so...i am giving it one star because as you said it isnt a movie. Do we need special effects for a movie?? I am not being rude, but sometimes special effects are used to cover a lacking dialouge. A truly great movie doesnt need great special effects. If you have a great dialouge, then that is enough in its own. Would we rate a movie like "war of the worlds" better then lets say "open water" two totally differently used movies...but the lesser in film quality (open water) outdoes the more expensive (WOTW) in the feel of things...if you know what i mean. One movie (TWOTW) uses its special effects to grab the audiences attention, and the genius basic camera work in the other film (open water) grabs your attention in probably a better way. a true director doesnt need fancy effects. if you are good enough, u can make do with the basic tools.

I'm givin' it middle of the road stars because it had good special effects, but it WAS just a trailer. As for the complainers, I feel if you have the skills, use them! Special effects don't guarantee the best movie. Story is what's important. Let's just hope that your actual series' story can compare to your FX skills. :)

brilliant effects, but as you said, its a tech demo not a film, so it doesnt deserve a huge rating, looks promising tho! sod the w ankers that cry about outside sources, if i could i would, and so would they so dont be stopped by their crying. This is what people should be doing, pushiung the games boundries rather than simple stories and shabby graphics. Keep it up and i hope the series is as good as the tech demo promises.

The only origanal thing i can see from the game in this is the music and the title... thats it... althought it was a good attempt i think really it doesnt belong on tmo as its hardly got any of the key parts of a tmo in it i mean its great that you want to show off what your intending to do for an upcoming film but im sure thats what the forum is for tbh. im going to give it 2 stars because the sfx combined with the movie will look good counting on tht your most likely going to use the spaceship 1 and spaceship corrdoor 1 for the inside of the ship, but the reason for the two is simply its something i would expect on a forum of sfx site or something.

I understand that you think the 3D animation skills are exactly like having to compose your own music, except it seems as though you are just using the movies website to exhibit your skills. If you want to exhibit your skills, apply for a job in a real movie studio, this is only a kids game, not a full on studio charts.

Have to give you credit for the 3D though. Really good work.

Peace out

Posted on January 23, 2006
- monkeymagic2005

Looks very nice but why is it on here???? The only thing that has been used from the Movies game was the music and credits. i also dont understand how this was given a "hot pick" after you are told by lionhead studios (the makers of the game) that using imported sounds and images are 100% not allowed and any movies that contain them will be removed from the website.

While the effects may be good, it has no movie qualities. Where is the plot? Where is the drama? Where is the editing? You have all of your effort in the wrong places...you should spend your time writing scripts, not producing cgi (cgi in cgi movies?) in another program. How about at least an attempt to create a movie, next time?

WHAT??? Okay i see how it "may" seem great, but didnt any one else find that there was no point to it. I know its a preview, but for what exactly. The trailer is missing the premesis of what the plot is. Just beacuse people like it, I'm giving it this star because its so overrated. Okay who do i go to to get the last 30 seconds of my life back. Dont take offense to the rating, this movie looks promising. But this isn't a movie, just a tech demo of whats to come. It'll probably be cool, but this isn't a movie so i cant give it a good rating. No offense to you or your movie making but because of the reasons i just stated, this shouldn't be number 1. Maybe the movie that eventually comes out, that might be worthy of #1.

Love what you've done mate but the fact that this made number 1 seems unfair to people like myself who came up with a script and put in the time to make a film with an actual story. Good effect and I commend you for it, but look at it like this, its like watching a Tech-demo and not an actual film, hell it is a tech demo...

IF you made a Pilot episode with dialoge and a story then hell i would give you 5 stars hands down no questions asked, but we're not. We're talking about a movie thats LESS THEN A MINUTE LONG and features NO ACTORS.

The fact that you made number one is unfair, but hey, whats done is done.

- DeathofRats

This is a bunch of bull. This is a site for "The movies"... not for "Maya 3D animations" or anything like that.

Please note, I am not bashing your ability to make 3d animations or anything, but this shouldn't be about "who can exploit something in the game to just import something made in another program". That's just bs. By your standards, I could actually go out, shoot a real movie, and then come on here, and frame by frame import it into the movies, and that would be ok. I'd be using talents and resources that others don't have. Would the people who made the game be ok with that? Would that be "fair"?

No. You, and others, would cry out in horror as the game was being exploited and manipulated. Stick to stuff in the game. Or, at least use the stuff in the game for more than 75% of your movie. Doing anything else just reeks of being an attention [censored!].

Just a 3 star, because really it's just a tech demo. But a nice little innovation, that can only help make better movies for and from us all. Good work.

mais je pense que vous avez un peut plus de temps... :-)
les effects sont genial... pourqoui vous ne fait pas le film avec le "blender" et seulment demonstre nous un trailer avec un link a votre film... c'est plus simple que rendering le film dans le "movies"...

I don't believe in these sort's of films on TMO they should be put someware else (goole video?) it was very good but it shouldn't be here. It's not fair on people who are making movies with the games characters.

Im gonna go with the one star...if you have the means it really isn't that hard or impressive to create something spectaculor but I always thought this site was about using the tools provided to you IN THE GAME. If it's nothing but who can make the best animations, then why even waste time or money buying The Movies? Costume mods are the only thing I will accept because they are generally available to everyone. I can say this because I dont use any sort of outside sources when creating movies aside from costume mods.

Nice job. I liked your "Do you think this is special effects" part. It's true, if only I had the time and effort to put into a movie like this. And I think you did, as a matter of fact, use TM because if it wasn't for TM than you wouldn't have made this trailer. I thought the speical effects were great, especially the part when the sub-thingy is coming up out of the water.

Ignore the stars. That is really an amazing tech demo. You should be proud to help bring a whole new level to this game. I totally agree with you on the ability to use outside programs. Unfortunatly my skill is in video editing software and PS so that means I will be using fan sites to show off my projects. Nice work again!

This was not truly made with The Movies. If you want people to see this, put it somewhere else and advertise it on TMO forums. Putting it up on here is a waste of server space for a 47 second trailer, which isnt even really a trailer. Oh, and Lynx-0-, not everyone can afford to buy Maya. So push off when you say "let it be an inspiration to make something just as good." Im sorry. If it was the finished movie, and from what I've seen, I would most likely be voting 5 stars. But considering this doesn't contain anything TRULY in TM, thern it doesn't deserve praise. Yes, great work with the program, addmitedly, but only using those and then posting them on an unrelated area is a no-no.

There's nothing I can say about this trailer that hasn't already been said. I wait eagerly for Nautilus. And I am already downloading Blender.

For those of you who complain about Special Effects, you remind me of how people whined about Star Wars, "How the hell can we make such good special effects to compete?". Look at modern day. This is the evolution of The Movies.

Well done.

Ok you guys.. HOT PICK or MOVIE? There is a difference.. for good movie we have the "charts" but there are other criterias like good SFX for getting a "hot pick".. so just rating it one star because you expected a movie while it was clearly stated that this is a tech-demo is just not fair and rather stupid... I personally rate this a 4-star because for tech demo it's little to short and for a trailer it should have more content..

cheers!

I strongly feel that outside tech should be left outside, how are people without such tech expected to get simular rateings to those with it, miovies on the movies online should be made entirely usig the movies game . backdrops and music are different matters, but imagine if i was to film a proper rl 5 minute film and post it, according to you why shouldnt I, im able to and as long as it uploads why not... why... the reason is it is unfair, as you very truly put it yourself.

Maybe a 2nd site should be produced for the people that dont stick to using the movies game, so we without it can play unhindered by those that know may etc... I did read somewhere that movies that were edited/made with other programs may not be uploaded, I wasnt sure at the time if it was infact may not or should not... I guess this answers our question... its should not. look at how this movie has jumoped into 1st place with, Come on... Come On is ten times better.
All I ask is if u must use outside tech to create movies dont post them here, get your own site where your skills and experties will not demininish our movies. I wouldnt rate this trailer at all, except i need to to leave a comment. Check out my movies Chrysis Parts 1 and 2, made entirely with the movies; I think they have been lost in the toil of movies on the site.

very good effects, 5* for that reason

people who only gave it 2* or 3* because of the lack of story line are a bit thick...its a trailer, do you people expect a storyline from a 47 second trailer which is just meant to give you a glimpse of what the flim will actually be like?

i admier you computer skills and congratulate u for them however this is "the movies" and i think that somebody which uses the game and his imagination without help from other programs should have the right to be first in the charts.

As you all may know it is quiet hard to make a very good on the movies because of the lack of sences, so i think that somebody who has mastered their movie making skills should deserv the spot that is y i give u a 2 star score.

to me this, and to anyone who likes to flame stop now coz this is my opinion, it looks rubbish, the graphix are horrible in my personal opinion and you didn't even use your idea's as a story base which i think comlpetely ruins what could have been a good thing if it was original, graphix arn't everything, you need to get a good story first then forcus on how to projext it to us in a pleasing visual mannor, there were also some people who pointed out that this is 'the movies' website hense, you have no right posting something you made on a completely different program on here, and finally to the poster named nicvancamp, your review does not make any sense what so ever

'Editing+ 1*
direction+ 1*
story+ 1*
sound+ 1*
set design+ 1*'

i dont understand how you can rate any of this when none of this was in that 6 seconds of footage, apart from sound obviously. now as i have said before this is my OPINION which means that you can not flame it because you feel different so don't even try because you will make yourself look follish saying what someone else thinks is wrong when ofcourse opinion does not have a 'right' or 'wrong', i am just pointing that out incase some people didn't understand that.

i have given it a 1 for effort and in my honest opinion, a 1 is as good as it should get.

Posted on January 19, 2006
- atlantisian

Idea looks great and if you did all that with just the movies game I applaud your efforts. But like others have said and I will say again this is a demo a trailer it is not a movie and it does not belong on TMO for a review. Give us the movie not the trailer. This does not belong at number one. There is nothing in it to rate as a number one film. It is to short, contains no characters, the graphic effects are good but not that impressive considering and there are some really great films that should be up at number one that are pushed aside because of stuff like this. It's only a game, I know. But the system has an error if people put a lot of effort into a movie and do a swell job to have it ignored then get shoved down the charts by a foolish rating when everyone else has decided it was good. Then this and Lottery and other stuff that were made in seconds with little effort get top billing? This is not right no matter how you look at it. This deserves one star because it is not a film and has nothing of value. When you come out with your actual movie it may be five stars who knows, but people shouldn't release stuff like this.

Posted on January 19, 2006
- Tsunamidog

I can't believe anyone gave this more than a 3. See game is to allow people that have no outside skills have a fair chance. You say that you don't ahve the abilities to produce your own music. That's a lie. I found in 10 minutes, TEN MINUTES, 2 FREE LEGAL TO USE programs. 1 that allowed me to make midifiles, and one that converts them to .WAV files. All you have to do is take some basic lessons on music and you could compose your own music. To do what you're doing would require me to first get Maya (not easy, illegal, or cost money I don't have) then to learn how to do draw well enough on a computer, all the 3d effect stuff, etc... That's not even all. Every 3d program has many levels of differences than all the other ones.

In short, you could learn how to make your own music in like 2 weeks tops. To learn how to do all that would require me to have money and take a lot of hard work. I give this a 1 because this is for skill in using the same program to make movies. Not to go the low road and be another hollywood jack--s that thinks graphics are everything.

And now for the REAL comment: only 3 stars because it is not a movie and because the non- movie was over before I even could say "What the H...". But I watched it again :-) You did a great job implementing something nice. I love the Movies, but I find it sometimes 'static'. You just took a picture of a boat moving and put it as a backdrop, you film the backdrop and you keep changing backdrop for each different scenes and then you go in post production and you make them as short as you can so it looks like your a 3D special effect master, everyone with a brain could do that, but no one really thought of it.

It's a neat idea, but I don't think the jittery framerate makes this something I would go for, personally. Isn't there any way of improving it?
My second point would have to be the surfacing of Nautilus.. It looked like a stop-motion animation at that point, using plastic foil as water.

Anyway, good luck on the real deal, when that time comes.

I don't know what to say. It seems a very good idea but... it's a bit overdone. I appreciate your hard work and effort but it seems a bit well.... I don't know how to explain it. I'm looking forward to criticising your new one =P. And another question... why bother? I mean to get VC is... understandable but really something so visually advanced should be better set on some kind of..... MOVIE lol. I like it though. BUT it only got 4stars cos of the start. oh yeah don't annoy cos i don't post movies... check out yoyoboy1.

Excelent piece of animation. I will award the actual film a 5 star rating only if the story can live up to the hype. A film can't be built on animation alone. But i ain't complaining its a number 1.

Just to stars from me. Reasons:

1. It's just a trailer
2. In my opinion this site is for "The Movies" and not for maya or something like that. I design in 3D myself and I think this site should be for movies that are ONLY made with the options the game gives you. If you want to use Maya or 3DMax please go to Deviantart.com or Renderosity.com.

Posted on January 18, 2006
- baktakor

It is a trailer and I give a maximum of 3 stars to a trailer - I have seen better trailers, so I give you 2 stars:

The special effect is nice and a lot of work I think but I'm not sure if it is worth it! The movement is not smooth and thus disturbing my eyes. On the other hand you most probably will have success with a movie made that way.

3 stars for the effort, great effects.
Just a remark: I think in your next movie, the effects have to be incorporated in the movie, but the movie doesn't have to exists only of effects, only like 10% special effect. You know otherwise it's not a movie. I could make a flash movie and import every frame as backdrop in the movie, but that would classify it as a flash movie, I could make a real movie and import every frame as backdrop but it's just not the purpose of the game. The same counts for 3D software, which you used. So, make sure in your next movie use something of the game "the movies" in it too. Otherwise, you could better post it in a 3D community.

i havent even seen the movie yet, but im giving it 5 stars because all those people who cant use the tools CAN learn.
here are some more points:
1.Jarrfilms: flash mx is not a 3d modeler.
2Jeebus: shut up(refer to paragraph 1,line 2.)
3. Boardmando: shut up. (refer to point 2)
4.Sidadoo: hacking the game? wtf? this is using EXTERIOR TOOLS to make new content.
5.Gazeeboman: shut up (it isnt a movie its a tech demo and you can't make stuff like this using the ingame tools)
6.TompaVF: shut up (this is a movie, made using the game, supplemented using other tools)
7.Sutty852: shut up (go google a free modeler or something)
8.Legendary_Studios: people gave it 5 stars because it is a tech demo, showing the technology behind the actual movie!
9.Hardred:easy? try yourself then come back.

Brilliant tech demo and a perfect teaser, but lacking in movie goodness. ALTHOUGH, to everyone telling him there will be no character bla bla: HELLO, he's basing it on a novel by JULES VERNE!!!! a rather good author, one might add. So we can have a modicum of confidence that there will be a decent plot and characters.

A movie that takes as long as a serie... So it DOESN'T MATTER if it's a serie or not.

I agree with '6-HeadedMonster' - Story is the most important thing. I don't care if there are no effects, or if the movie is fully loaded with them, its it has a story that can catch my eye, then I'll watch it.
I mean if its fancy special effects I want, I'll put on a copy of the matrix, or play my 360.

Just a word of Advice, You want ppl to watch series. Better have a good plot! and characters ppl can relate to, cos right now, I can't relate to a spiky submarine!

I will give u 3 stars though, simply because the animation must have taken up a good amount of ur time, and VC is precious!

but think off noobs like me :)

Posted on January 17, 2006
- Legendary_Studios

making this is not fair compared to people who find it challenging to make a good movie within The Movies (or people who can't do this)
I think lionhead should delete everything that is done with a other program (I dont mean backdrops with photoshop or custom costumes but everything that is done with things that some people cant do) Everyone can make backdrops and costumes maybe not good ones but everyone can do it.

And thats why I am suprised that people give a 5 for a movie that has almost nothing to do with this game. The thing in the beginning you said you call this is a special effect?
Well that would be the restriction VDiazoni was talking about.
And this doesnt mean Im jealous but this really ****** up the game.
If you do this then buy a flash program and go do that.
(lionhead could have put this in the game but they didnt and they had a reason for that)

Mon ami, I'm not going to rate you 5 stars because that's just a demo. I told you you were the ILM of this game. I look forward to watch the series, which I'm sure it will be great.

Posted on January 17, 2006
- VDiazoni

The movies game has its limitations, but you went beyond this. However, and I'm being honest, this has nothing to do with the game itself anymore...Because of those limitations. I think for that matter you are contradicting your own words since you are not using JUST the games possibilities , It's not the special effects which make a good film but a good story. So surprise us with a good story and be praised on that...considering it is done with limited means...
I'm not telling you to stop what you are doing right now, but it takes away the fun for people who don't have their own gamestudio...
What I saw is really promising, but I'm not sure it fits within the Movies. I think it goes beyond that and it is too large for this game...Don't go saying I'm jealous, because I'm not, I even encourage your effort...But I somehow get the feeling you're missing the point on this game...and should maybe be producing your film outside this game on the whole.

If you release a movie in this quality it will definitely become a 5 star. And then is the second or maybe even first place okay...

Amazing job, but the Game is called "The Movies", therefor it wouldn't be fair if a demo would be the #1 movie.

Magnifecent. But i want to utter one warrant. I'm sure that the tech is great, but do not forget to make a good story to.

Awesome tech demo but, as others have said, no real substance here.
However, what you have done is VERY impressive. I have seen nothing on TMO thusfar that comes close to this technically speaking. Here's hoping it makes people think in a different way, and take The Movies in another direction. Kudos dude.

Not fair to people that don't have any skill or talent, just like using editing isn't fair to people that can't use the game, or having a good story isn't fair to those who think Pokemon is high-brow-cinema.

Seriously though, awesome stuff. It's well beyond the abilities of most, but nice to see some.

Get's my 3 star 'good' rating since it is only a demo of your 3d modeling skills incorporated with The Movies game. This takes TMO to another level and I'm not sure it's exactly fair to the average TMO'er. Perhaps Lionhead will need to develop a new category for custom 3d modeled movies.

Looks very interesting. Too bad I have neither the time, nor patience...nor skill (most likely) to even attempt something like this. It does seem a tad bit choppy, but frankly, most of us can't even do this. Nice job. Will look forward to the actual release.

nice tech demo, but as a film it only gets a 2 in my mind. interesting you chose a slow craft to animate as the choppiness of animation is less obvious.

Look people.. It was ADVERTISED AS A TECH DEMO!!! Rating it low for it not having a plot, not being "from the movies", or like lcd BECAUSE YOU ARE JEALOUS!!! Is simply stupidity in it's purest form. this movie promised a demo of superior SPFX and it delivered. This will get my highest recommendations, even though they just knocked my studio out of second place. I'm pretty sure my #1 spot is gone a few minutes after this movie's release.

It looks great, no doubt about it. Still, it is really stupid that you have to go through all this work to come up with an animated movie when it was an animation that you started from. Not to critisize you, don't get me wrong. You have done a great job. But Lionhead should allow some form of animated background (don't think dds can be animated). Why not avi or mpeg? Sheer frustration I'm venting here. I admire your courage. Ok, 4 stars from me, it really is too short to deserve 5. Keep it up :)

Good but not entirely original, other have used this technique, like Subway 3 for example. I myself have used this technique; your advantage is using 3D software and then breaking it down into individual frames. Looks good and for that 4 stars, but not the first :)

To the rating:
- 1 star because the movie is under 1 minute
- 1 star because there is no story at all (I know it's a tech demo)
And most important:
- 1 star because I've seen this techniques in other trailers before
= 5 - 3 = 2

Sehr beeindruckende Leistung.
