Film Description
This is the re-edited version.

I will at some stage completly re-shoot hope, because this version was made in story mode and took 50 years to make. I am just waiting on the right sets being released in the prop shop. I have also learn't how to film and edit better and now know how to get rid of the errors that have been mentioned, and a few that have'nt been.

Reviews of the previous version were;

kevonski - *** - Less is more. Decent but 3 stars, needs tighter editing.

Dulci - **** -

Ryan_Farnsworth - **** - Sad but beautiful.

I just like to say a special thankyou to Glynner. It was his movies that inspired me to buy this game. So a 5 star from him means a lot to me. I strongly recommend you check out his films, and his recommendations.

Don't read any further until your've watched the movie, because I give away some of what happens below.

The inspiration for the first part of the movie, is the love my wife and I share. It has been remarked that lovey-dovey stuff was cheesy. Well all of the romantic things said are based on things my wife and I sincerely say to each other.

The inspiration for the second part came from a radio interview I had heard. In which the same fate had become him. This guy had wished the baby had died instead of his wife. He felt that he was selfish to feel this. But in our darkest moments and with our pesonnal thoughts which we rarely share. These are the things that some of us sometimes secretly feel, personnaly I would not have wished for that and I definately do not advocate harm to children. This story is about inward emotions, not about being always right. None of us are good all the time, we all have many layers. Wayne would appear to anyone else as strong, reliable and a nice guy. But we know his innermost fears and feelings and can see his struggles with his emmotions. When very bad things happen to you, these are the kind of thoughts that can go through your mind. A lot of Wayne's lowest point has been taken from personal experience. The point is that although he had wished his daughter dead, he managed to overcome this terrible feeling and turn the situation into a more positive outlook.

One thing I often feel about movies on TMO is that there is not enough character development or linking dialogue.

Peaky I'm over 40 too, and all my actors and actresses are modelled in starmaker.

So I watched this ages ago, before I even had an account on TMO, and remember really enjoying it. Now I watched it again to research my role for the future remake. And my god... I don't remember the film being this poignant and devastating. Sure, the film wears its age in the technical department, but the way you pull this film together, shooting some scenes with an almost voyeuristic eye, really tears at you once the startling denoument comes to the forefront.

You don't understand. When I was new to TMO, every film carried with it a certain magic that transcended some of the technical limitations of the software. Those movies were, to be honest, sensational, compensating for their lack of visual panache with sincerity, grace, and pure beauty. Since I have now become more accustom to the software and the various techniques used to make films here, some of that magic has waned away and I have become somewhat jaded with a lot of the films that have come out lately. There is no life, no fire... just empty special effects, no heart and soul... a meaningless tech demo parading as a movie. When I see stuff like that, I'm tempted to pack my bags and roost someplace else.

Hope made me forget those films and brought me back to when I was enamoued with the incredible depth and personal introspection those early films had. For that, I cannot recommend this film enough. I am truly honored to be a part of this project and hope I can maintain the magic that made this such a touching movie. I cannot wait to become this character who has touched me so deeply!

A sad, but hopeful love story that gives your emotions a real rollercoaster ride...

I have to admit, even without the spoiler, I had a feeling that things were going to take some sad turns - the love of the two characters was so perfect (and perfectly developed by the filmmaker) that my inner cynicism kicked in and said, "Nah, when things are going this good, something is bound to happen."

And they did - and that could have been the end of the story - but it wasn't. Because that wasn't what the story was about. As much as it was about their love, and the ultimate loss, it was about more - about coming back from tragedy and finding a reason to carry on, for all the right reasons.

This is an oldie (I see it was uploaded almost two months ago), but it's still one of the most well made and powerfully moving romance flicks I've seen here. Techniques and skills may advance, but good work is always good. And this is very, very good work.

Beautifully, tastefully told story :)

It had ful impact factor and told a story that sadly quite a few humans have faced in their time. It showed the grieving process clearly and then the man coming to his senses once he had cried enough to be able to think clearly again.

Well I'll say this. Here is a movie made by an adult.
Hand on heart, lad - this for me was a fabulous romance movie.
The dialogue was just so mature and well placed..and ... just so natural.
It was a cracking old-style romance movie in a style I have never seen done - the closest was Chance Meeting and I gave it a three if I remember with a phrase along the lines of... you'll get better as you make more.
And how.
And how.
At times I thought what you were attempting was just too emotionally big for the game... but how can I fault you on that? This is clearly a film made by somebody who watches REAL movies and LEARNS the tricks and dialogue they use. You really knew what you were doing.
Everything's relative - what one man likes another man won't. You may find that this particular demographic represented by the online community doesn't appreciate this one.
I really really did. Really.

Very moving story, no matter how often it has been done before. It was a long ride, but I guess that's necessary to develop the (relation between the) characters, and you did that very well. The length didn't bother me at all. Good use of differet sets, although some more different lighting would have improved it (like scenes in the dark at perhaps the hospital, or when Wayne is drinking alone at home). Overal a good film.

What a bittersweet story. The last part of the movie is so sad and moving and I liked the last two sentences at the end, a great ending to a powerful movie. The execution of the movie was all done well and the pace of subtitles was excellent. Only one negative point is that some scene dragged out too long but this won't effect the final mark of what is a great tragery. Great job!

The story and the premise were well thought out. I thought the dialog was stilted and artifical sounding at times. Also there were some problems with the subtitles. The music was ok and suited the scenes quite well...it's just a shame that The Movies game makes it so hard to transition music smoothly.
All in all, a good job!

I watched this before but for some reason I didn't give it a review. This is a well made movie. Although there was one part bothering me when the character said, "Why couldn't the baby have died instead?" He's in love with this woman and she is his everything but to me hoping for a child to die was shows somewhat that he's a little heartless and selfish. I'm not sure if that was intended but that's how I perceived the character.
Then at the end you say that the child with be the contact between him and his wife. His 'Hope'. That brought everything into perspective. At the time his wife died he was mad at everyone, the doctor, himself, and even the child. It's easy to blame instead of facing the truth because it is our human nature. You did extremely well making this character come to life, even without voiceovers.
I believe you used the subtitles eloquently and editing was pretty good. Overall, an emotional film and gripping tale about 'Hope'.

A wonderfully moving film that spans the relationship of Wayne and Jules all in 13 minute 30 second movie. I never noticed the length. The movie flowed well and moved me to tears in the hospital waiting room scene, and then inspired me with the ending.

I did NOT find the romance cheesy at all. I thought it to be real! I believed that Wayne and Jules were in love and best friends and the writer/director should be praised for his efforts in making these emtions believable!

GREAT JOB!

I wouldnt give it anything but a five and I wish i could give you more, this is the greatest movie on TMO. I don't care how much "FoDoog" makes me laugh I don't care how much Dylen suprised me at the end of "Survival Game" this movie blows the rest out of the water.

Wow....

That was deep. Especially to find it was based on somebody's life. Liked the romance (just North of 30 -- am I aged before my time?).

Would very much like to see that one with VOs, and maybe a touch tighter on the edits (9-10 minutes maybe?) But still a 5 star on the merits of the story, not a lot of folks would post something based even partially on thier own life.

I think you needed this length to get the emotional contact you wanted, but its a long time for a movie to run with no tension or drama. If theres no room for actual drama, no action scenes etc. you should really try foreshadowing the bad turn to come. A foreshadowing of the wifes death would have had us watching and waiting nervously, building up tension.
And if you threw in a second foreshadowing on the husband, that he wouldnt be likely to stick around for the kid say, then at the end you have the tension of not knowing if he is going to do the right thing despite the ominous foreshadowing.
Didnt particularly find the romance cheesy, it chimes with my own relationship (maybe its an age thing, 40's here too) and worked well in the story.
Was a bit confused as to setting, English? American? it kept changing it,s ambience, guess thats down to you being half and half now. ;)
Good movie, but at that length really needed the tension to keep it tight, or tougher edits.

Very good story, nice editing, nice dialogue. The mushiness between the two characters made me feel a bit sick and it was a corny movie but I suppose that??s part of the whole way and was a nicely made movie never the less. Good movie.

My advice to you for future move making would be less music videos. I would like to see if you could pull off an action or comedy movie.

First and foremost let me say that I really like what you've done here. I have a few minor nitpicks, but overall this was done quite well. You managed to make it an emotional piece and even the bits that border on melodrama are effective in this context.
The "cutesy" talk between the main characters is so true-to-life it's almost creepy. :)
I've noticed others' comments on Wayne's wishing the baby had died rather than Jules, and I have to say that the line shocked hell out of me--but that's a good thing. Characters who behave and think exactly the way they should all the time...well, they eventually fade into two-dimensional shadows where characters should have stood. Wayne shows a basic human flaw and, in expressing himself this way, demonstrates the depth of his grief. It is destined that each of us will in time say or think things that we wish we could take back, that we wish we had never said--this is a moment Wayne will remember, I think, for a long time.

The downs: Some scenes, in my humble opinion, were a bit overlong. The pace seemed to fall off a bit after the birth of the baby. Could use just a tiny bit of tightening up, but again that's just one opinion.
The next-to-last line seems to give away the final kicker. It's a last hint of what's to come, but a hint that plays so late in the film that it's really a complete tip-off. The choice of name for the daughter was, after all, the key to the title and the point of the story--so it would seem to me that it might gain more impact if it were just a bit more "surprising" (for lack of a better word).
One of my personal eccentricities is a grammar fixation, so I noticed a few minor errors (but I always see those, even when no one else does...I'm a sick man) ---but nothing so bad as to detract from the movie overall.

You say in the film description that you intend a full re-shoot...I can't wait to see that.

Keep up the fine work!

A very moving and lovely film. One of the few films on TMO that actually conveyed sadness with great effect. As for Wayne's feeling that he wished the baby had died instead, I think it's perfectly understandable and truthful. The fact that he did love Hope in the end shows his triumph over the dark sadness. A wonderful movie with only one small flaw in the wedding scene (already commented upon by others). Use of music was great and the modeling of Jules was really impressive. It wasn't too long, in fact a final epilogue scene could have ameliorated the slightly abrupt ending. Well-earned five stars for a film by an adult who's lived a real life.

Great film. It is good to see films that focus on the very possible challenges than everyone hopes they can avoid. Good to see a film that deals with these very real challenges and ones own commitment to the ones they love. For me: thought provoking and submersive in the realaties of life. Wonderful.

It's no doubt a good story, but I could see the ending coming a mile away. It started to drag once they got in the hospital (which btw, he shouldn't be smoking in a hospital, surely someone would have asked him to put it out). I did enjoy that it was raw emotion, and not "what he's expected to feel" emotions. So good job overall.

Really.

Hi, i looked at this movie quite thoroughly so i have a bit to say, bear with me:
First thing: Script:I felt the words were quite cheesey and the lovey-dovey stuff was over-done. And there were some grammar errors (eg he named the baby 'hope' with a little h). Also whe didnt really need to know the whole discharge procedure from the doctor.
Editing:The extras in the wedding scene weren't dressed for the part, and the woman was behind the groom and the man behind the bride, isnt this usually the other way round? I also thought the wedding scene didnt require subtitles as the scene spoke for itself (cool backdrop by the way). Also i felt the smoking scene came from nowhere. Overall the movie was quite predicable and like most romance movies on this site (a loved one dies, and its real sad) ive done one of these myself (bleeding heart: offline). The only other thing i have to pick on is that 13 minutes is a long time for a 'the movies' movie.
Apart from that, good story mostly good editing, liked how you were creative with costumes and sets (the apartment corridor for the hospital). It also kept my attention which is definately good. thanks for reading and sorry for the length, i should take some of my own advice!

The movie was O.K. It was a bit long and repeated alot at the end about wanting to kill himself. Also, I was disturbed about the line where you wished the baby had died instead of Jules. Just like in real life, the kids don't to be born and so many people harm innocent children. Overall the movie was good.

Solid movie. Excellent story arc. Well written plot. Great use of music. I liked how the relationship between Wayne and Julie was established. My only complaint is that I felt the ending could have been edited tighter. I felt too much time was spent on Wayne's despair. I also didn't like the line where Wayne wished the baby had died instead of Julie. Overall though, an excellent movie.
