Film Description
First, I know there are some audio issues, but I find my computer stinks and does not like recording in high quality. I apologize in advance for that.

This is a rendition of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Telltale Heart." I had to cut some dialogue out and change a little due to the scenes available in order to tell the story. Like it was originally written, this is told in first-person narrative form. While some say the voice needed to be spookier, I chose to go with a calm voice in order to portrait the mind of a mad individual who felt he had done nothing wrong.

For those wondering, the copyrights were released in 1993, so it is not a copywritten story.

As always Thanks Review Trader for allowing me to share this with others and to Lionhead for making such a rocking game. For those unaware of this group, it can be found in the fansite listings.

I think I have finally gotten the hang of this. Most of my other stuff has been pretty bad up until now.I'm still trying to get one of each Genre out, but as we all know, it's gonna take some work.

Well off to play with my new props. Thanks Lionhead. Like I said before, you guys rock!

I am an english teacher and I have just finished Poe's classic of suspense with a second year class. My hat is off to you, well executed a good adaptation of the original prose and a worthy update to a more modern time. If this is a hint of the potential developing within you I will watch your next movie with great interest. Poe would be proud! :)

You got it right. Big time. Everything that was promised by 'The Miracle' - evrything that was hidden by a small rant movie that grew too big - it all came home here. It came home rightly cheered by the people who make the films. I actually feel pleased for you. You got it right.
The voice-over was delivered brilliantly and with real feeling. For me to comment on the mike pops would be an excercise in nitpicking.
But for me it was the editing - especially considering the first movie I saw (The Miracle), and your initial editing/continuity rant movie. Each cut matched the tale - the overlapped voiceovers... that beating heart.
You really and truly nailed this one into the ground.

A great filmmaker takes on a great storyteller and the result is a small masterwork. The Tell Tale Heart is excellent in all aspects of creative cinema. This film should be seen by all to see how a creative mind can fashion magic with The Movies.

Im 15 years old and i had to read at the end of 8th grade and the beginging of 9th grade. I loved it. It was one of the only stories i read in school that i liked. I dont care if the movie had its problems and it use moderne sets the idea of doing the tell-tale hearts is worth 10 stars

This sort of thing is what 'The Movies' should be all about. An excellent adaptation of a true classic. I'm sorry I ever doubted your greatness, you really are the master of this game.

I can't actually think of anything I'd change about this (I must be getting soft in my old age...) Good scenes, good editing, good use of stage set backdrops, sound FX and the VO seemed spot on to me. Excellent:)

A little changes here and there, but this adaptation of Poe's is nicely done. Although I was kind of disappointed you had to change away the dramatic proclamation of the hidden heart.

Very solid work though the costuming seemed an odd mix and the periods didn't quite mesh. The language was very classical as was the narrator's costume, but the rest was modern. Otherwise a it's good to see the great works shown.

STORY: not original but I do love Edgar allen poe.
VOICEOVERS:Yes the voices are calm but it does add a lot if it's creepy. I like how you depicted it though. But it's still average.
SCENES: It was really smooth and well edited.
Hope to see your upcoming films of all the different types of genres.

Quite well done, but please, *please* fix the missing apostrophe in the title! And be careful with your microphone: the audio quality is not your computer's fault: it is yours for not holding the micriphone at an angle to your mouth where the stream of air emitted when you speak cannot strike it.

Amazing flick - I don't know what I was expecting...a Poe adaptation with these tools seemed to be a rocky hill to climb - surprisingly enough, you pulled it off. Even knowing the story well, I felt the dread and paranoia of our nameless narrator. Even the tired old in-game music was effectively used to heighten the horror.

If I have one nit to pick at (call it a suggestion for future projects)(and this perhaps goes to directorial choice rather than a real "nit") it's that you should have used a fade-in for the 8th day scene, when the final confrontation begins - the existing hard cut just jarred me a little bit. But that's director's choice, and I won't question it.

Very superior adaptation, and very superior job.

A Truely Brilliant adaptation of a classic. I Can't wait for more of your stuff. The narration was great, like you said the view of a man thinking he had done no wrong worked better, in my opinion, than a creepy voice would, that would have given too much away too quickly. Still, you think it would have been easier just to cut out his eyes than kill him :(

Sorry to say, but to these ears your narration just does not sell the drama AT ALL. The editing for the most part was well done, but you should have been more mindful of the bad jump cut from "the closed door"....to "THE CLOSED DOOR" (on the eighth day...) The climax is nullified by the subdued vocal work. Another thing that detracts is the in-game voice...The movies-speak mummbling was absent but the gasps and screams are poor (this isn't really your fault though.) Thank you, however for adapting Poe. When will we see some H. P. Lovecraft? Or Hawthorne?

A painful retelling. You realy should consider asking others to do your voice overs. This is one instance where I feel you should have used only VO's. Little jerky on the editing, but its the VO's that make mesquirm. Why are people being so nice to this recycled tripe?

Although I would have liked to see the movie in all of it's entirety I have to say that this was very, very good. Excellent adaptation. Perhaps going against the norm - but then I always do - I don't like this absurd Poe tale, in fact, I don't like Edgar Allen Poe at all - he is vastly overated in my opinion but well done considering the dodgy story it was based upon. First person narrative is a bit of a cop out as well for voice overs.

++++++++++++++++++ A PROPAGANDA PRODUCTIONS REVIEW ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Wow, a great movie. Truly well done. The way you brought the heart messege across was scary, almost frightening. I even felt uneasy in front of my screen.

Pros:
1. A great original horror drama
2. superb introduction
3. The 'eye', it was scary, great job on that
4. Your voice, it suits the narrative. top Notch!!
cons
1.The heart took completely over from the eye. 'The' eye got lost! you should have featured it, maybe when the body was discovered.
2. The camera technique was sometimes a bit clumsy, improve the flow.

I say,
One of the best movies of its kind

86% a high ranking 4star !!!!

Never read any Edgar Allen Poe stuff but had heard about the Telltale Heart. That Simpsons episode makes more sense now.

This film is an impressive re-telling fo the story. Nice use of the scenes in relation to the story, cuts were simple but effective. The story was carried simply by the voiceover so there wasn't any need for any music at all. Liked the overall atmosphere. Good work.

Great work! I read the story some time ago when I found it on the bookshelf of my parents. I thought it was pretty spooky (and insane) and was really curious about your adaptation. I have to say that you didn`t disappoint.I liked your use of the original dialogue and the nice workaround to show the evil eye.

Very, very good movie. As an avid fan of Edgar Allen Poe, I felt you did the original story justice with this movie. And while your voice may not have been "spooky" per se, it got the job done, and probably did a better job then if you did use a more spooky voice. Good acting, good scripting, good scene flow... overall a great movie.

I loved this. To take something like that and adapt it was truly well done, I am giving 5 stars as, although the voiceover had a little hissing in it from time to time, I choose to overlook it as you should not be disadvantaged due to your equipment.
Very well done.

I have alwayse been of fan of E.A. Poe but hadn't read the stuff in a while. Might have to go and reread some of the stories and poems. Nice movie but I gave it only 4 beause I don't alwayse like contemporary retellings of old stories and would have thout it would have been better in and older looking setting with older cousomes (might have been harder but sorry it just isn't the same with a modern setting).

Usually I dislike films based on stuff but it's not like there are 100's of Telltale Heart flicks out there, and something based on a poem is a pretty good basis for the use of this game, they are both relatively short after all. Nice job.

I think you have told the story quite well. The sound effects were used to good effect, the narrative was a good choice too. A lot of people would have tried to use dialogue. It is a pity there are no period sets you could have used, but that didnt detract from the overall quality of the movie in my opinion. Bravo!

I am a little biased here cause I love Poe, always have. I really want to know the eye trick. As for the VO, yeah it was rattiling. I had same prob early on. The way I fixed was to play with volume and gain settings on my mic. I also just bought a 50 cent mic filter. Just a little piece of foam of the mic helps alot. Decent editing. I liked the heart beat. Only reason I can not muster 5 stars is because it is a remake of a work but then again I love Poe. I am harder on remakes though because you do kinda have a guideline. Very good movie. One thing that did bother me was the lighting in the last seen. It was night time I thought when the police came, but I could be wrong. Either way I think darknesses is needed in this type of tell. Good work 4 stars!

I wasn't too impressed by your first films. I downloaded skeptically. Could I critisize - sure, here and there. But why? The spirit of this rendition is as true as the spirit of the original, delivered with authenticity and respect while maintaining its own originality. Editing was sublime, performing exactly what you were meaning to capture. I can say this film truly deserves it's #1 spot in the horror charts.

What can I say but BRILLIANT. As a person who hates nothing more than READING and people who quote old classics I must say that I loved that story (I know I shouldn't praise you for the story but the idea to use the story was 5 stars in itself) lol. The only previous time I have heard Edgar Allen Poe was on tv (The Simpson Treehouse of Horror) but that was the raven one which I found was good but this one was BRILLIANT.

Plot - Fair - Since this is a recreation of previous works the max i can give you is 3*
Script - Great - You edited this classic story perfectly in order to adear to time constraints. Also the VO work was spot on 5*
Music/Sound - Great - The music was decent but the reason i'm giving you 5* for this portion is purely for the excellent heartbeat effect 5*
Editing - Great - Very well edited and produced 5*

You seemed to have seamlessly translated a thrilling, classic tale into a spectacular film. The VO was great, and the way you shifted the dialouge around a little bit was perfect. Your adaption of the Tell Tale Heart is near perfect. Where are the rest of the Edgar Allen Poe tales? Waiting for the Cask of Armanjillo!

Posted on December 17, 2005

Very hard movie to rate. I liked the VO work and the tone. The popping knocked it down a bit. The BG use was very effective, I really liked that. The heartbeat could have been better and had an echo that I thought took away from the movie. Also being the script was basically pre-written it loses a little for originality.

I gotta say this is a top notch movie and one everyone needs to see. Justin you definately earned the success this movie will be having. I gotta put it at about a 4.25 and that rounds to a 4. Don't hate me bro.

Would have been a 5 if not for the same thing I think I say in all your moives (at least I meant to).. GET A POP FILTER JUSTIN!!! At least dont talk directly into the mic. Man nothing ruins a good VO more to me then the sound of every P and T and S and whatever other letters crackling and blowing into the mic. I think that is the sound that will be driving me mad :) .. Other then that I thought you did an awesome job with the story, and I was impressed with the backdrop and the sound fx. One other thing is (and I say this for most NOIR type movies or anything that is telling a story), the focal point to things like this will be your voice.. so at least to me it has to be perfect. Its great to have nice edits and pictures and such but if your telling the story its your voice that sets the moode and draws us in. great job man.

I'm a huge admirer of Poe's work, so I watched this with mixed feelings.
But I have to say that you perfectly captured the atmosphere of his story and proved that his work truly is timeless.
Even if there are a few minor glitches in editing (most visible in the changing bedroom scenes) it's a perfect movie.
I also think that the fact that the sound is a bit scewed up helped in building the atmosphere.

Hit me back with a review if you accept the challenge, and to name your terms (evil laughter ensues). All in fun and games! Well, keep on making movies, and hit me back (if your up to the challenge- more evil maniacal laughter)- but no Poe, its just not fair, he's the master! (way more evil maniacal laughter)

Wow, very impressive, you really did the story justice. Especially amazing considering the limitations of the game.

Maybe at the end you could have worked in the part where he offers the cops drinks and stuff, to try and ignore the beating heart. That way you could build up the tension until he finally cracks. But that is a minor complaint at best, the movie still works as it is.

Nice adaptation of the story. Mostly good editing and good choice of scenes and sound effects. In my opinion the voice of the narrator isn't that bad. At least this movie has some voice-over that contributes to a tense atmosphere.

A very good rendition of this ghastly Edgar Allan Poe Tale. Well put together, notably with the sound effects and choice of close ups. It only suffers from the voice of the narrator (it just doesn't fit) and that it is a compressed version of the original tale, missing some parts (arguably not very important).

Good job making the most of the technology. It kept the horror of Poe and fear that follows it.
