Basically a nice movie with some of those nagging things that prevent it from greatness. Most of what I was going to comment has been said by others already, so I won't start repeating them. The lack of emotion being the biggest problem. I think it got better as the movie progressed and we spent more time with the characters, but some of the earlier bits were a bit dull.
Also, adding music to the later bit would enhance the emotion. Music is a powerful mood-setting tool (try the classic music test: make a scene, then play two entirely different pieces of music on the background) and it was noticeably lacking here.
Still, a nice change of pace from the usual. And I also did like the idea of flashback scenes going on there.

For a first film, this is well put together. You have no continuity issues, and although the length is considerable, you have a plot that runs through everything.

Unfortunately, you're missing some pieces. One of the other reviewers mentioned a low level of involvement with the characters- that's because your dialogue is quite wooden. Characters are coming out and saying how they feel, rather than disguising their feelings. One thing audiences like is to know a secret that the characters don't- or to be guessing at how a character feels. Try actually picturing a situation, and what each person would say, rather than presenting their actual motivations.

Although it's a romance movie, it doesn't need "romantic interactions" every other scene. Much of romance is anticipation... don't try to overwhelm the audience with eye-candy and mush. Allow the anticipation to build, so that the presentation becomes a reward to your well-trained audience. :-)

Voice overs would have helped break the silence. I'm a sucker for a good voice project, so consider adding in voicing to your next film. The only way to improve is to plug away at it... that's what I've been doing, and I reccomend you do the same. Good luck, and I look forward to reviewing your next film.

Good story, but I think it could have used a little editing to make it shorter. As mentioned in an other review, watch out for the disappearing soundtrack. Looking forward to the VO version also!

I found this gem hiding on the last page. I think the reason it got no votes due solely to the length, which is too bad. For a first film it is remarkably well done. Here is a little help for you. Go to reviewtrader.com It is a good way to get your movies viewed. As this is a remarkably made movie, I think you will find many good people there that will enjoy this as much as I did.

One thing you need to watch out for isthe disappearing soundtrack, but that is a new movie makers mistake. Don't get discouraged. If you think no one noticed, go look at the studio ranks for this studio name. You got a noticed by one of the highest ranking. That is a pretty nice reward.

I am really looking forward to the VO version. Keep it up.

Let's get the nastiness out of the way first:

1) Music ran out half way through - and it was sorely needed to create a romantic atmosphere

2) Spelling errors in subtitles - which sometimes flew by far too fast

3) Mumbling - this should never be turned on. NEVER!

4) Poor editing in places - especially in the subway scene.

5) Continuity errors in terms of costumes

6) A female lead whose "assets" make Lara Croft look like Kate Moss. Nice to see plastic surgery was alive and well in 1954.

Now the good bits - a fairly well constructed story with some attention paid to the dialogue. Good character dynamics in places.

Oh, those crazy lovers... I wanted to kick James in the butt tho; he should have stuck by his first lady love (but, hey, that's great - creates tension and, therefore, interest. Keep up the good work! Want to check out my first romance, "Hearts Afire?"

I am sorry but this was very boring. Could have told that story with that level of involvement in three seconds.

The Story is somehow pointless and it was hard to keep the attention, make it shorter next time. There are many scenes in there that aren't essential to the screenplay, cut them out. Also concentrate on the score(soundtrack) next time, it represents half of a movie(a powerful tool to "time" emotions.
I'd give you 2 stars for this movie, but since it is your first, you get one bonus star.
