I just get so damn enthusiastic when I see someone that understands the visual importance of a movie. And how to tell a story visually. It got just the right amount of dialogue. The editing is very good - maybe a couple of close-ups too many in the end - but I guess you had to work around some problems there. Thumbs up. looking forward to watch the next.

Great plotline. Fantastic. Very old school, which is the kind of thing I like. Great editing, creative subtitles and static/zooming shots, nice music. Voiceovers are meaningless to me, I don't care. I didn't much like the bar scene, which just felt stolen from somewhere, but the rest of this film made it an original great to see. I especially liked the nicely polished finale.

Great job! I think you should pic up a mic and give voice overs a try. Everything was spectacular, but I think this would be a winner with voice. I know that sounds picky, but I really think this could compete at the top of the charts with some voice.

As far as everything else, fantastic!

Well edited and with a story told well. And a good use of a sound effect in one scene too. Some classic old movie lines in there :)

Really loved the thought and detail put into the story. The ending however was a bit of a surprise, but a well thought out surprise. V. good choice of sets, the city scene seemed very realistic. Overall a very good effort.

I love the Film Noir style and this hit it in spades. I really liked the editing and the dialog was right on as well. Very good stuff. Keep it up!

I liked the "Dimestore Detective" feel this had. (Look a horse. LOL Sorry inside joke concerning the mysterious horse in the backgroung of the forest scene). The way it was incorporated into the dialogue was nice. I kept waiting to hear a humphry Bogart VO, but alas it didn't come. Still the editing and story were excellent and you get an extra star for the horse.

You have a good story plot and I think everyone else summed it up for me, very good. Wish I could put the stories in my head on the set of this game.. some just dont work though. I will see what i can do. And thank you for posting on my film.

There's a lot of noir around these days, and this ranks up there with some of the best - good pacing, mood, and atmosphere, the dialogue was well-written noir-ish - very nice job.

My only disappointment (and I kinda figured it out based on your description) was that this had nothing to do with the Elizabeth Short murder, the real Black Dahlia case...maybe someday....

Good work.

Great pacing, punchy dialogue, and a slick plot make this a very enjoyable movie. I'd love to see more from this studio.

Great Work, an Impresive Movie

Some subtitles went too fast for me. I can only assume some of the editing snafus toward the end were caused by the engine? Kind of a cross of Maltese Falcon, Body Heat and a few others. I just didn't get the connection between the widow and Bud. It seemed all of a sudden they were hot for each other so it was a little out of place. I liked alot of the dialog, especially the end piece where you introduce deception back into the mix in an indirect way. It'd be 4 if the editing didn't break down at the end and a few of the subtitles were slower.

Great film, really brought in the feel... I realllly wanted a narrative voiceover with this one, in the classic bogey-like style.

I kinda liked the story on this one, things were a little out of sync such as dialogue but overall it was quite entertaining.

The dialog could use a bit more polishing; it's more akin to Hollywood's portrayal of '40s slang than what was really spoken during the period, or even by authors of crime fiction. The subtitles were a bit wonky in places, too. But, overall, a nice hard-boiled dtective film.

Very well done! One of my favorite genres! I have to agree with the other reviewers, though, about the VO. Even a bad Bogie would have given me enough reason to give it 5 stars! Keep it up!

A classic story very well executed, especially on the dialogues which were absolut top notch and very fitting to the mood. I mostly forgot i wasn't watching a "real" movie, I only remembered that when a character made a not 100 percent fitting motion which comes with the game. Full marks and keep up the good work!

"The Black Dahlia" is a great gumshoe story. With an excellent atmosphere and some great dialogue, it really captures the feel of the old crime dramas. I really liked this one and hope to see some more from Bud Marlow.

Started out great, but ending was confusing, you could edit it a bit more, the whole story was cliche, 3 stars should do the job.

Another fine piece of work from a great writer of detective thrillers. Great camera work on this one (with a few placement exceptions). I too would like to see some voice overs.

Not a bad movie with a solid story. I don't like PI films but this was quite watchable. Lots of detail in your work with is refreshing, still not got the wow factor but good try.

Great. I started to notice that I miss the OFF-voice in these noir-films. If it had decent VO I would have given it a 5. But that is hard to do right, I know that. Keep it up.

You had the editing down. However, the plot really could have stood to be thickened. I'd suggest, since you really did have a lack of it, a lot more stream of conscience. Most noir tends to have a lot more of it than this.

Very entertaining. I especially liked the ending- it reminded me a little of the early part of _Out of the Past_. The bedroom/hotel room scene was a little choppy, but that was really the film's only fault.

Nice work!

Lack of voice over on this long of a movie really hurt it for me. Some of the editing was a little confusing in spots. Subs were a little too fast in some spots. I saw that you also got hit with the bug where when you use an street scene, the sound continues throughout the entire movie. Not your fault, so no deductions on that.

Good movie, but I found 2 weaknesses. The musical score was a little too dominating and the lack of voiceover work.

Gives you a good feeling of the films noir of the 40s. Pitty, that the movies doesn't allow for black and white. This would have been the perfect feature for it.

It would have been nice to make the inner dialogue a different font, but good otherwise.
The musc fits very well to the scenes and the movie in general.
I did notice the car sound, but it happened to me as well, so no knocks there ^_^.
I had trouble buying into the romance between the two main characters.
I would have rather seen Marlow stay a PI and continue some stories using him.
All in all, not too bad.

I think this was a pretty good film, though I have to say that the subtitles seemed quick, and confusing. The editing, and story line are great though. I look forward to seeing more of these films in the future. Great work!

The voice overs were a tad confusing at times, and they were a tad quick at some points. Its just hard ot stay focused on a longer movie with subs.

p.s.: you rated my movie 1star, becouse of i called it a trailer, and it was to long for a trailer.
Sorry about that.
It's a pity that none of the 8 minutes could enjoy you. I promise: the whole Movie will be presented without the term "trailer" and fully subtitled in english.

Excellent editing, story, everything.

It just could have used a bit more polishing with the subtitles and who was talking. V.O.s would have been nice, but I didn't take points off because of it.

It was quite a good film. The script was sometimes very noir (aka great!) which was cool though this is especially one of those films that would have benefited from voice overs. There were also a few problems with editing. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Boy, is poor Bud going to be in for a shock come monsoon season. Nicely done story. I felt there could have been a little more polish on some of the editing, but I do know how boring and tedious that can get :)
A few of the shots did seems a tad "artsy-fartsy" but that may just be the noir style. Just left me with one question, did they know each other already?

Thanks for the review of my film, and the lesson in editing from this one. Really enjoyed the way this was put together. Not a big fan of sub's myself, but their brevity makes them work well here. Noir is one of my favorite styles, and this is a damn fine one.

Yayyyy Sombody finaly got a noir right! (The main character thinks aloud)

Pretty good story, not terribly original, basic really. Would have been much better with voice acting, but it's cool. Editing was really good. Great story line. Once again, would have been 5 stars with voice acting. Music fit
perfectly.

The overal message I got was; there are no true "good guys"
